Book for exam 1Z0_233 - 11i Install Patch and Maintain Oracle Applications
Hi,
I am looking for Study guide / exam guide for the exam 1Z0-233 : 11i Install Patch and Maintain Oracle Applications
http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_org_id=&lang=&p_exam_id=1Z0_233
I have Oracle education book which is issued after attending 5 day training course. That is good enough
But Still want to have Books that we get for Database track certifications
I think, since this certification is new, it might not be published yet
Have checked Amazon.com and OraclePress.com
Anybody has any clue ?Anyone know if there are any plans in the works for an Oracle Press book for the 1Z0-233 exam?
Also, has anyone read:
Installing, Upgrading and Maintaining Oracle E-Business Suite Applications Release 11.5.10+ (Or, Teaching an Old Dog New Tricks - Release 11i Care and Feeding (Paperback)
by Barbara Matthews (Author), John Stouffer (Author), Karen Brownfield (Author)

And is it any good? No reviews yet on amazon, or elsewhere that I've found.
Thanks for the info,

Please recommend a book for basic CSS learning
I have "CSS The Missing Manual" and even though I'd say it's
a great book. It does not tell you "how to."
All the books I have read gives you templates, I want to
"know how it was done." Seeing a template already made up does not
show you how to build your own. Yea you can can look at the codes
in the Dreamweaver templates but what happens if you want to build
your own? Why was this DIV placed here? How do I create another
Column?
There are so much I'm not learning.
I am looking for a book that will assume I know nothing about
CSS and tells me, "to make an elastic layout, do this." "To make a
liquid layout do this, write this, use these tags."
Any recommendations? Please help.
I would like to go to school for this, but can't afford it at
the moment.

Recommend good books for learning java?
im using Java How to Program, Deitel&deitel.
i find it all right.
what do u think about this one?
can u recommend any other?
NatashaThere's a lot of online reference available, too:
http://java.sun.com/docs/books/jls/second_edition/html/j.title.doc.html
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/docs/api/index.html
http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/index.html
There's links to all the online documentation, as well as to a few recommended books that you can buy, at:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/docs/index.html
As for specific book, sorry I can't help you. I personally learned a lot more Java by browsing through the API reference than I did by checking out coding examples. But that might only be because I already had a decent background in programming when I started. If you start Java as your first programming language, then an example and explanation filled book would be really useful. Like I said, sorry about not being able to provide any solid recommendations.
Hope that helps though. Check out those links, they are pretty useful. The tutorial is pretty helpful sometimes, too.

Which book topics to follow for exam 1Z0-007? Sybex or Oracle press?
Hi, I am studying following both books for exam 1Z0-007 but sybex book by Chip Dawes covers more topics then oracle book. I am wondering if i still need to study those topics in sybex book which are not covered in oracle press book? For example DML Locks have been discussed in detail in sybex book as compare to oracle book and few topics are missing in oracle press and don't know if there will be any question in the exam from those topics?
1) OCP Introduction to Oracle9i: SQL Exam Guide by Jason Couchman
2) OCA/OCP: Introduction to Oracle9i SQL Study Guide by Chip Dawes, Biju Thomas
Can anyone pls advise? Also i like to know if SelfTest software covers same questions which are in sybex and oracke press book? Because SelfTest software has same questions for microsoft exams which are already in the cd of microsoft official press books.

The proper method is to look at the exam topics on [http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_org_id=1001&lang=US&p_exam_id=1Z0_007] which is authorative.
either the Sybex or Oracle Press book is authorative, and sometimes exam changes after these are printed (with revision from 9iR1 to9iR2 for example).
In general you should probably have enough material in the two books given for this exam. Its probably cheaper to take the exam itself rather than buy additional Selftest questions. Your time may well be better spent practicing the things you have trouble with. Also be aware these books can have errors. And learn whichever is in either book even if it isnt examined. Its good for you! -

Please recommend the book for 10g both for OCA and OCP. I have seen that there are books from Sybex and Oracle Press. If you happened to know both of them, please recommend which one is better to use for preparation. OCA (1Z0-042) can be different publisher from OCP (1Z0-043). Thanks very much for your advice.
True, but at least this was on a thread for someone actually requesting info on cert books.
I've seen some weird threads on the OEM board where the thread is started by guys advertising brain dumps....

Good troubleshooting book for tiger
hello, has anyone heard of the "x-lab" book by dr smoke? is it pretty good? i read a little and it seemed like it could help. before i get it i wanted to check and see if anyone knows or can recommend other books for troubleshooting and repairs and such for tiger. i have the missing manual book and its good, but it's more like an intro to tiger. i would like to learn how to fix my mac and do troubleshooting and learn more about the os.
thxHi! Dr. Smoke is one of the "masters" and is revered by all one these boards. It's a good book to have around in that time of trouble especially if you don't have another computer that you can use for research on a problem. Also one of the best ways to learn is by reading the posts and especially solved ones. You'll soon pick up on the best "experts" and you'll always find yourself reading anything they post! Tom

Good reference book for FinalCut Express
Can someone recommend a book for a beginner in FCE?
ThanksI don't agree with that. The book does cover some advanced topics but everything from the basics upwards is covered. For example, "Title" in the index lists page 479: "To generate a basic title screen".
1. To generate a title screen, do one of the following:
- From the generator pop-up menu in the lower right of the Viewer window choose Text > Text.
- On the Browser's Effects tab, choose Text from the Video generator folder (Figure 17.7).
The new Outline Text Generator appears in the Viewer.
2 In the Viewer, click on the Controls tab to access the generator's controls; then specify your text control settings as outlined in the previous section, "Text generator options checklist" (Figure 17.8).
You can specify only one font per text generator.
3. Click back to the Viewer's Video tab and edit the text clip in your sequence in the Timeline. If you want to superimpose your text over video, choose the Superimpose edit type when you perform your edit (fugure 17.9).
You can edit, filter, and animate text clips as you would any other video element.
Pretty simple and complete. I find it useful to remind me later how to do something once I have learned the technique from doing one of Tom's Lessons in his book. -
Reference book for Oracle Linux exam 1Z0-402
Hi gurus!
Can you please give me useful reference books which cover the al topics for Oracle Linux Exam 1Z0-402 preparation?
Thanks
MokaremCan you please give me useful reference books which cover the al topics for Oracle Linux Exam 1Z0-402 preparation?By itself, 1Z0-402 does not grant any certification. Presumably you are going for Oracle Linux Administrator Certified Associate. That certification path also requires passing 1Z0-403. However, you can skip 1Z0-402 if you already have one of several other industry Linux certifications (LPI, Linux+, Ubuntu, Red Hat, or Novell). My recommendation would be to go for one of these certifications, then skip straight to the 1Z0-403 exam. I suggest that for several reasons:
1. There is a lot more study resources for exams like CompTIAs Linux+ available.
2. The other Linux certifications are better known than Oracle's.
3. Since 1Z0-402 by itself does not grant a certification, going this route gets you two certifications for the price of one.
