can anyone recommend a second monitor for a 27 inch imac for around £300

Yes. It has a Mini-DisplayPort on the rear panel for a second monitor.

Pair a wireless KB with the laptop and all should be well when you attach the laptop to the iMac and invoke TDM. But as Denny mentions, it does seem like the waste of a good iMac to use it in just this configuration. Why is the laptop primary?

  • How to use Macbook Pro 17" as a second monitor for iMac?

I have a new iMac with Lightning connector and USB. And I have a Macbook Pro 17" with Firewire and USB. Is there a way to connect the Macbook Pro to the iMac and make it into a second monitor for my iMac?
    Thanks!

Your welcome, wish I had better news. You may want to look over Apple's FAQ on the subject (Target Display Mode) you can find it by clicking http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3924

  • Dual Monitor for iMac 21.5"

I'm looking buy a second monitor for my late 2011 21.5" iMac. I was looking at the Acer H226HQL (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-H226HQLbmid-21-5-Widescreen-Monitor/dp/B00B07RA6E/r ef=sr_1_4?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1373627515&sr=1-4&keywords=monitors+21.5%22+hd mi).
Not sure if it would make a huge difference because the iMac's height is 10cm more than that of this Acer monitor. Would it be a nuisance or won't it make that much of a difference?
    Thanks

Back in the mid 90s I had a 17" display that I thought was heaven but as DTP and graphics software became more powerful I decided I needed a second display but when I went looking I found my display had been discontinued. The second display was also 17" but it was about 5 inches taller. I liked it better but I found it disconcerting that they weren't vertically aligned. A couple old college text books solved the problem.
More recently I received a nice HD LCD display from my wife when she upgraded and it was maybe an inch shorter than my iMac. That didn't bother me at all. The display itself is 2" larger than my iMac and that didn't bother me either. I sometimes connect my notebook to the LCD and then the size difference does bother me so I only use mirroring with the notebook.
If the height difference bugs you, cheap out with a few books or go the classier route with a little shelf to raise the LCD. Or, find a display that has an adjustable height.

  • Using a MacBook as 2nd monitor for iMac?

Hi. Got a shiny new 20" iMac with the 256MB graphics. I understand this unit can drive an external display without too much stress via the mini-DVI out. Question is, since the household is getting a Macbook soon anyways, and I'll only occasionally need a 2nd-display, is there a way to use the Macbook as a second 'dumb' monitor, simply displaying whatever is being fed to it by the iMac?
    Thanks!

Hi Duckman54: Congrats on the new Mac(s), but unfortunately the MacBook has no video input capability. You can however use another 20" monitor with the iMac.

  • Need recommendation on new monitor for CS6 and lightroom 5 -

I would like to upgrade my monitor for photo editing using CS6 and lightroom 5.  I have spent a lot of time reviewing several monitors and just as confused as when I started.  I am looking for a monitor in the $500 to $900 range but want to make an intelligent decision.  HELP!

If you have a subscription there should be no problem.  You should be able to install on two machines. If you try to activate a third machine I believe the activation server will deactivate all your activations.  Then activate the current machine. You can then re-activate one of you other machines.
If you have a perpetual licence and have two activation you will need Adobe Customer Support to assist you.

  • VGA monitor for Imac Snow 600mhz

Hi, I have a imac 'snow' model and because I use a lot of spreadsheet applications, wanted to attach a larger monitor. I have purchased an Xerox XM3-19W monitor and attached via the rear VGA plug and all is well except for the sharpness of image. I have tried all of the prefs settings but still not good. The monitor is as follows: screen size: 19'' , Technology: LCD , Brightness: 300 cd/m² , Contrast ratio: 500:1 , Dot pitch: 0.28mm , Maximum refresh rate: 75Hz, 1440 x 900.
    Can anyone please assist?
    regards
    Peter
Imac snow   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   600 mhz

    Peter,
An LCD display is only really sharp when operating in the native-resolution which in this case is 1440 x 900.
Unfortunately the iMac G3 can only mirror it's internal display to the external display. This means that the iMac is only pushing a 1024x768 image out of the VGA port. The external display is taking this image and stretching it to it's panel.
Unfortunately the bottom line is that although you can connect a really large monitor to the iMac it won't actually give you any more working space; just the same space displayed larger.
I guess it might be time to look at a refurbished Mac Mini.

  • Best 2nd monitor for iMac Intel 20"

A few months back I stumbled upon a great article comparing Apple and 3rd party monitors that could match up well with the iMac Intel 20".. of course I can't find it now that I'm using actually using this iMac. I'm curious to hear your experiences/views on 2nd monitors that match up well for this specific computer. Thanks

There is a MiniDVI output port on this iMac. Simply purchase one of the following adaptors and configure the dual display in Apple menu > System Preferences... > Displays. (The options appear when you connect the display):
    Mini DVI - DVI
    Mini DVI - VGA
    Mini DVI - Composite/S-Video.
DVI will also certainly provide the best picture quality but the exact choice of display depends on your budget and intended usage. For example budget LCD displays are inappropriate for work that requires colour accuracy.
Your iMac will support displays with the following resolutions:
    Digital resolutions up to 1920 x 1200.
    Analogue resolutions up to 2045 x 1536

  • Additional monitor for iMac

I want to be able to use an older LCD monitor as a second monitor with my iMac.
    1.. Is this possible?
2.. The monitor I have only uses a parallel connection into the monitor. Does anyone know how to convert the end that currently plugs into my old PC from a parallel to what seems to need to plug in to the rear of my iMac?

It could be. You don't identify your specific model of iMac.
2.. The monitor I have only uses a parallel connection into the monitor.
Do you really mean the old PC-style parallel connection, either DB-25 or Centronics style?
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallel_port
I'm not aware of any LCD monitors that have a parallel port as their primary connection. More likely what it has is a VGA connector:

Your iMac may have come with the proper adapter. If not, the particular part you need depends on the model of your iMac.

  • Best, lowest price monitor for iMac

    Opinikons Please
What is the best, lowest price mointor for early 2009 iMac?
    Thanks

Thanks Rudegar.  The problem is my iMac covertoer went away and I cannot afford to have it replaced but I though a moitor would do.  Live in USA.  Nearly blind and need a monitor I can see (lighter screen needed).  Looked at Dells and they seem to be OK but so do a lot of them.  Only need a 20-22" screen.  The plan is to get a moini mac eventually (desk space i a premium around here) so would need a monitor that is good for thaty too.  Hve all the periferals I need and just need to have a good monitor to put in place.

  • Additional monitor for iMacs

Ok for someone who has only had am ibook g4 for the past year and a half I need english on this one. I do not possess the technical vocabulary for this.
I want to by a desktop mac or more specifically an imac G5 but the main things my next mac has to do is allow me to have dual screens, wireless everything (keyboard, mouse, printer, and internet). I first wanted to dock my ibook and get teow monitors and everything but found out I can't do that. So what should I buy ?

  • 2 external monitors for imac?

Is it possible to connect two external monitors to the new 2013 IMAC?  If so, how?

Yes, one per thunderbolt port.  Of course these displays should support either DVI or HDMI with 1080p minimum if you want the full effect.  VGA is analog, and only gives you 4:3 screen ratios.  mini-Displayport to DVI and HDMI adapters exist.  HDMI has built-in audio support.
