Recommended tool for recording screen, adding audio later

I need to create a training video on my MAC (new MAC user). I used to use (gasp!) Flash to produce training videos, and that allowed me to add audio files separately. Like the rest of the world, our company is getting more and more MAC users, so I need to find a new tool to generate a video that is Windows, MAC, and iPad 2 compatible. Since it appears that it's easier to produce something for Windows from a MAC rather than the reverse, I've opted to use my MAC at home to do this project. However, I'm a MAC novice, so I don't have many tools at my disposal, and I'm in unfamiliar territory.
I would LIKE to create a video screen capture, add audio separately, perhaps in segments, do some video editing to correct my mistakes, and perhaps add some text to the video. I need to capture the mouse cursor as well. And of course, I'd like to keep the cost at a minimum. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I'm currently considering iMovie for editing, but it isn't clear to me if I can capture the screen video and cursor with this tool.
Easy Video Recorder for Mac is another option. Has anyone used this tool? Is there a better option?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or guidance you can provide to this new MAC convert.

Hi eholz1,
The method I favor is not included in
any of your three (3) options. I agree that the "script is
everything", but I generally add audio from that script as a
separate step - after the recording process - as a part of the
routine editing procedure. That works better for me than to narrate
while recording.
I reject out of hand the idea of using a third-party audio
program to separately record audio to be separately
inserted/imported later ... the work involved in synchronizing
audio on the time-line is considerable, and often results in its
own horror stories about editing slide audio timing to correspond
to slide timing of objects and other actions. But maybe that's just
me. But maybe it's not ...
see
this thread
for an example of how screwed up and frustrated you can
become, trying to fit a round peg into a square hole (with all
respect to the author of that thread.
In other news, I see nothing wrong with calling members uh,
members. I respond pretty well to any name that doesn't reference a
body part or function thereof. As a matter of fact, I've even been
called that (right here) from time to time. Sigh. So hard to
generate a little hero worship nowadays - but even so, I think I'll
keep on being me.
Have a nice day!

  • Recommended tool for technical illustrations to be embedded in FrameMaker document?

I'm new to Framemaker and don't know, if this is the right tool for me.
I have written a technical document of about 500 pages using MS-Word. Now I want to figure out, if FrameMaker would be a good alternative. I think it could be.
But one of my needs is to be able to create technical illustrations (diagrams with shapes with text and arrows, lines and arrows linked to the shapes when repositioned).
In my opinion the capabilities of FrameMaker to create such illustrations are very limited.
Currently I create the illustrations using MS-Word-2010. I think concerning illustrations MS-Word is more capable than FrameMaker.
On the other hand the capabilities of Adobe Illustrator are plenty too much for me.
Can you recommend some external tool for creating illustrations, which can be easily integrated into a FrameMaker document?
    Regards,
    Martin

Import the ai file directly into the FrameMaker doc.
Select where you want the illustration to be located (use the smart select tool and click on the area in your text flow)
    File>Import>File
If you want to have the illustration in the document to automatically update when the drawing changes, select Import By Reference.
Once imported you have the option of positioning where you want it to be located relative to the text.
Right click the anchored frame, select Anchored Frame
Select the Anchoring Position, Alignment, etc.
Adobe Illustrator is all you need to create quality Technical Illustrations.

  • Is iMovie the best tool for dividing up an audio track?

I have an LP put onto an audio CD which ended up as one long track. I would like to divide it up into the individual tracks for each piece. This shouldn't be difficult, but I'm using the new iMovie 10. I had iMovie 6 and that's easy to use; this new version makes everything seem impossible. But is there a better tool?
I managed to import the track, but I can't even see the time displayed anywhere (I had worked out the times where I want to cut it up) which is so frustrating.

  • Recommended Tool for devloping Swing GUI's?

    Hello everyone.
I was wondering what a good tool kit was for building swing gui's?
I heard NetBean was one, any others you recommend?
Currently I use Rational Software Architect to do all my java coding but I don't see any options in this IDE for creating drag and drop GUI development.
    Thanks!

You have 2 very different answers to consider. Before making your final decision, I'd ask yourself, which of the two responders is a Swing expert and which isn't. That should put a whole lot of added weight to one of the recs. Just my two scheckel's worth.

  • Tool for Dynpro Screen Design

    Hi all,
does anybody of you know, if there exists a tool with that I can create some webdynpro 'screenshots'. It is especailly for the concept of a new application that will be implemented in webdynpro. The concept should indicate the look and feel of the application with the help of the screenshots.
...is there perhaps a modelling tool or some shape sets for modelling programs or something?
Best regards and thanks for your input,
    Rolf

    Rolf,
thats something different. I'm not aware of such a tool. Basically I would say that doing a mock up of the screens with WD itself is almost as fast as using any other tool. And it can be reused for the real work then....
This is a method that came up during the nineties called rapid application development. I'd really suggest to go that way.

    Benny

  • What is the recommended capacity for an external FW audio hard drive?

For a home studio recording mostly guitars and vocals

also make sure to get a Firewire drive running at 7200rpm not 5400rpm.
1TB drives are much cheaper these days, so I recommend spending the extra cash on 750GB or 1TB or above.

  • Sound for recording video and audio not working

I have tried everything to get the sound to work.  I have reinstalled the audio driver.  When I go to soundrecording.exe to see if I can record sound it gives me a message "An audio recording device cannot be found."  Please help this is driving me crazy.

well, since people can hear you on a call, it's not a hardware problem with the microphone.
It appears to be something wrong with your recording apps -- the camera (in the case of video) and whatsapp.
    First attempt would be to:
    a) install another camera app with video capability and see if IT will record audio. and
    b) uninstall and reinstall whatsapp to see if that fixes the problem.
If that doesn't work, to a backup, then try a hard reset and re-install the apps one by one, confirming that recording works after each install.

  • How to enable Audio Track for recording podcast

I'm trying to use Garageband to create podcast in iLife '06. When I select female voice and the red record button, I get this message "No Audio Track is enabled for recording". Adding new track from the Tracks menu does not help. Can anyone help please?

Um, er, that's a Windows app. The best way to record Skype on a Mac is Ecamm's Call Recorder. Just install and you get a record button in Skype!

  • Why can't I enable an audio track for recording? (It won't let me)

I want to record VO but PP won't let me...
On Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite in System Preferences:
    • Sound Input is set to C-Media USB Headphone Set (an Alesis usb mic...works fine for VO in Final Cut Pro 7)
    • Output is set to Headphone port
In Premiere Pro CC Audio Hardware Preferences:
    • ASIO Hardware is set to "System Default Input/Output"
    • I have also tried "C-Media USB Headphone Set but this, too, doesn't work
    • With "System Default I/O" selected, Output Mapping is set to "Adobe Desktop Audio" (only choice), and shows:
         • "Built-in Output: Headphones 1
         • "Built-in Output: Headphones 2
         • "C-Media USB Headphone Set: Front Left
         • "C-Media USB Headphone Set: Front Right
all four of these have a couple of square icons to the right.
In order to record VO, I first need to "enable track for recording" in the Audio Track Mixer. There are no in or out points set in my timeline and the tracks are not locked or solo'd or anything. So why can't I select the audio track I want to use to record VO? I click it but there is no response. I just want to know why this software is not doing what it's designed to do.

is I learn still around -? That was VERY HANDY!

Can anyone recommend an application for recording streaming flash audio from a BBC webpage such as http://news.bbc.co.uk/today/hi/today/ne … 149211.stm

  • Export Media from DV Pal to AVI: Best recommended setting for Output file?

I have a project in CS4, on Windows, in DV format (original videos were M2t).
What is the optimal setting for export (and possibly for the sequence settings too) for the best quality and then smallest size?
If my input is M2T files - is the best settings to work in Premiere is DV 1 for Pal?
I always use Progressive Interlace - is that required or is the default of Lower field OK as well (I am not sure exactly what is the impact of using just one field, but from previous versions of Premiere Progressive always improved the video image)?
Is the frame rate of Pal as 25 FPS must be adhered in the sequence setting and export to avoid re-rendering?
    As for the Export side:
Is using the DV Pal is best for quality without going uncompressed?
Is starting with 16GB of DV as m2T and ending with 20GB of DV reasonable?
Is the method of exporting to DV and then compressing it using a 3rd party is the best way going about the creation of the movie and then compressing it for distribution?
What is the the recommended tool for compressing - and with which format?
The end result is meant to be consumed as an AVI on people's desktop. Not on mobiles or YouTube or DVD.
On BitTorrent I see many files that are in HD but have an amazingly small size of less 1 GB - what do these guys use to achieve such small sizes yet amazing quality?
What is the best tool and codec to achieve a compression based on a file size?
Is DivX better than XVid? And is "Multipass nth pass" is the way to configure the DivX for best results?
I really feel we lack any guidance on these aspects and a huge of time is wasted every time I get to this stage when it should all be pretty standrad for me.
I know I am asking a number of question but if someone is able to jot down the basics of the tool, codec and settings to achieve best quality (regardless of the time it takes to get to it) - I'd be very grateful!
Merry Xmas and a Happy New year to all,

  • Tools for Java

Anybody kowns if exists a tool for drawing screens (in graphical mode, like cut and paste components swing or awt) giving the java source code on result ?

Why don't you use JBuilder or the open source and free Netbeans?? By using e.g. Netbeans, you can drag and drop components on your Applet or Frame. Code is automatically generated.
I don't know if a tool exists that can ONLY be used for creating code for your User Interface, if that was your question...
    Good luck!
