Recommended video cards

Hello,
What video cards are recommended for Encore 2? All that is mentioned on the system requirements page is "1,280x1,024 32-bit color video display adapter."
We're considering the Matrox Parhelia for dual monitor display + NTSC preview capability. Can anyone please confirm that this is a suitable card or provide other suggestions? Thanks!
Matt

Why not use a Gamers Card? I have the Leadtek 7800 GT Extreme 256Mb PCI-X card and I love it. I do play on First Person Shooter Game at times so thats why I decided on that card. Can anyone please give me some insight as to what part the video card plays and why not use a game card. I do have the Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Pro card that I use for capture. I am also running the Intel Pentium 840D Extreme Edition Processor with 2 GB of Corsaire XMS DDR2 PC 6400 Pro Matched pair Memory Modules. I have no performance Issues at all but I still wonder what the advantage of a Parhelia card.

  • Color with NO recommended video card?

The recommended video card is no longer an option. The minimum card would be the nvidia 8800. This card doesn't support rendering in 10 12 or 16bit only 8 and 32 as far as I know. Does anyone know this to be different? Yes it does matter. render times and such with no render farm blow in 32bit and 8 bit is just not enough color depth to prevent banding.

I have an iMac 20" dual 2.4Ghz with ATI Radeon HD 2600 (if it's what you're talking about) and Color works flawlessly(much faster than the original 25fps) with all the bit depths supported(8, 12, 16, float).
This does not tell anything when you are not telling what kind of footage (resolution, fps) you are using.
Color's limiting factor is GPU's power to handle pixels per second (resolution x fps), when you are not choking hdd pipes.

  • CS6 recommended video cards?

    Building a Photoshop machine.
Been referencing numerous websites droning on and on about CS6's new performance improvements.
Still hazy on which video cards, or perhaps which features, of video cards, ought to be included on the card to go in the new machine.
    Planning to spend 200-$300.
    Any advice here?

It seems it's NEVER possible to just say "get this model" because all of them have strengths and weaknesses.
I develop GPU-enhanced software (not Photoshop, but plug-ins for Photoshop).  My experience has been that ATI's driver quality is higher than that of nVidia.  I have to code more exceptions in my software for both nVidia and Intel than ATI models.
That said, of course "past results are no guarantee of future performance", and ATI seems to have been stumbling lately with their last few driver releases.  Catalyst 12.2 (from this past March) seems to be the golden version to get.
If I were put on the spot to recommend a video card right now at the moment, I'd probably suggest the VisionTek ATI Radeon HD 7750 model.  I have been using exclusively VisionTek brand cards myself and I've had ZERO problems with them.  I don't personally have the model I mentioned (I have a 5670 in my main Photoshop workstation now myself, though I'm tempted by the new 7000 series), but I know someone who does.  Keep in mind video cards have different power supply demands; the card I mentioned is a low current-draw model (the 7750 doesn't even require a separate power supply connector), and low current models are quieter and don't make as much heat.

  • Recommended Video Card

I just installed FCE and read somewhere that having a good video card was very important. I have a G5 with a NVIDIA GeForce 6600LE with 128 MB VRAM. Will this card do the job or should I upgrade to something else?

I may be wrong (I often am!), but I thought the video card only affected the appearance of playback on the monitor and not the final output quality.
As you have FCE already installed, try it out and see.

  • How do I add a video card to my Pavilion P6774Y?

Twice my screen blurred out and when it came back, Windows 7 said there had been a graphics problem, and then restarted.  I am assuming the integrated video on my HP Pavilion is dying.  If this is a correct assessment, what is a recommended video card for this machine and how do i add it?
    Thanks...  Ron

Since you have a ati graphics chip inside an ati card may be better.
Your psu is 250W so you will need to change it too.
A recommended video card depends on your requirements and your budget.

  • What is a "Core Image-capable video card" ?

Roxio Toast 10 Titanium Pro recommends in its System requirements that a core image-capable video card be used. I don’t know what this means, nor do I know whether my iMac has this video card.
I checked the System Profiler for my aging 2005 iMacG5 PPC and under Hardware / Graphics/Displays, my iMac has an ATI Radeon X600 XT. Under the Displays description, there is a “Core Image: Hardware Accelerated” feature. I don’t know how important the recommended video card is, nor whether my existing card would meet Roxio’s recommended system requirements.
I picked the Final Cut Express HD Forum to post this question; if there is a better Forum, please advise.
I want to purchase this Roxio software so that I can burn Blu-Ray discs of 1080i video footage downloaded from my Canon Vixia HV30 into Final Cut Express 3.5. After video editing in FCE, I want to export into Toast 10 because iDVD will not produce hi-def DVD’s.
I’m sure there are some experts out there who know whether my video card is sufficient for what I want to do, and may have other comments/suggestions about my hardware and its ability to work with Toast 10 and meet Blu-Ray objectives.
    Thanks in Advance

    Alchroma,
Thank You for responding to my question; that was a very good reference.
I think I'll be OK with my old iMacG5PPC to handle the requirements of Toast 10 BluRay.

  • I need a Video Card for Adobe Premiere Elements, what is recommended?

I wish to buy the Adobe Premiere Elements Video Editing. I shoot on a Cannon GL1 & GL3 mini dvd and need a video card to capture my video footage. What Video Card is recommended for use with the Premieire Elements software? and what is the price? Please advise...

Is the purchased Premiere Elements 12 still in its sealed packaging?
If you have not already, I would suggest that you install Premiere Elements 12 from the purchased installation disc
and evaluate its performance in your computer environment.
    a. Does the program fail to install?
    b. Do you get Display Card errors?
If you are worried about not being able to return 12 once the package is opened, then you can try the following
    a. Download the Premiere Elements 12 tryout files from the following web site and evaluate it as a tryout (full
    featured).
    http://prodesigntools.com/photoshop-elements-12-direct-download-links-premiere.html
Read and carry out carefully the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the web page to avoid Access Denied message.
    b. If the tryout performs well for you, then delete the tryout and install your purchased version with the purchased
serial number included on the packaging.
....other possibilities, but just the above for now.

  • Video Card Recommendation for Power Mac G5 Quad

Can anyone recommend a video card upgrade for my Power Mac G5 Quad?
I am now running the nVIDIA GeForce 6600 card that came in the machine, but I'm wondering how much performance increase I'll see with a large image library in Aperture if I upgrade. I'm interested in all comments.
Also, is there a "medium" upgrade and a "kick-***" upgrade?
    Thanks!
    G5 Quad / 4.5GB   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I hate to say it: At the moment there is no graphics card upgrade available for the G5 Quad and the other PCI-Express Power Macs. There are a lot of threads about this topic in this forum. It is simply a shame that Apple does not offer any graphics upgrade for their former top of the line machines - but they do offer them for their new Intel Mac Pro. Maybe one day ATI will offer an upgrade, but at the moment this is just a rumor. All you can do now is to buy a reflashed PC version of the GeForce 7800 or buy a ridiculously priced spare part GeForce 7800 from a store who is willing to sell you one (there is one on the web but i forgot the url).

  • Video card recommendations for Lion?

Hi everyone - I'm still on Leopard but want to make the plunge to Lion.  I've spent the last two nights trying to install SL then to Lion as recommended, but couldn't.  I would get the Apple icon on install dvd boot, then the spinning wheel, then it would tell me to power off.  Reset PRAM, the whole works.  nothing. Finally stumbled upon some articles that mentioned that maybe it's my old video cards that were the culprit.  So two questions:
    1) Is that right?  I have two of the video cards seen below, and I'd rather not spend money to upgrade if not necssary.
    2) If it's the video cards, which I'm 95% sure of when reading the other articles - which is the best kind to get?  By best - I mean least hassle.  I'm OK to do a couple of things here and there, but rather not have to deal with firmware issues, flashes, etc.
    Oh - I do have a CalDigit RAID card, but I don't think that's the culprit... (?)
Thanks in advance for your input.

Wait until Lion has matured; wait for drivers and apps to be upgraded and tested.
And 7300GT is not much of a graphic card.
Heck, you might look into an 8-core X5355 upgrade which have become popular and cheap.

  • Recommended video/graphic card specification

I am currently upgrading to a new PC.  I would appreciate advice re the type of graphics card I should purchase - and why that particular specification.  I'm running Photoshop Premier Elements, V10.

    Ed,
I am with you. Though I often recommend video (and audio) driver updates, when required, I only do it, WHEN required. I do similar with programs, such as QT Player, when I wait for reports to come in from the field, before I update. Even then, I keep the "last known good" version around, just in case.
Good luck, and I do hope that Intel might have finally "gotten it," regarding their video drivers. They make great chips, but the driver support has been lacking badly. As most programs do not really rely THAT much on video drivers, so long as it will get something onto the monitor, that is usually good enough. Programs, like PrE, PrPro, AE and now Photoshop, rely very heavily on the video driver, and if it's obsolete, will usually not function well. As the extreme gaming industry drive nVidia and ATI/AMD, they are constantly re-working their drivers, as those games also stress the video driver. Intel has just never been in that market. My fingers are X'ed for all Intel video chip users. Heck, Intel has a very big presence in the Valley of the Sun, and I have used their CPU's for decades, with no issues. I like Intel, but just understood that I could not trust them to update video drivers - until maybe now.

  • Can anyone recommend a video card for a stock Acer Aspire X AXC-605-UR11?

Can anyone recommend a video card for an Acer Aspire X AXC-605-UR11 with stock 220 watt Power Supply?

Hi Shaun, here's some video card choices, but check which Mac Pro they work on, might even ask OWC for Motion details...

  • Can anyone recommend an OS and/or video card upgrade?

    Dear experienced video editors!:
I am currently trying to send a 1080p (Pro Res 422-encoded) Final Cut Pro 6 sequence to Motion 3 to do some effects work and the following message (from Motion 3) arose when I tried the "Send to Motion" command:
"This project is too large to render with these settings.  Your hardware cannot support a project of this size.  Try reducing the resolution of the project."
My questions for anyone able to help me are:  What 'settings' are they referring to?  Which 'hardware' cannot support my project, exactly? and What can I do to do my effects work in Motion 3 without reducing the resolution?
I have an early 2007 model Mac Pro desktop with the following specs...
    2 X 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Mac OS X (ver 10.5.8)
    6 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM memory
ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT graphics card
The footage I am editing was shot with a Canon T3i at 24p at 1920x1080 res.  Before bringing the footage into Final Cut Pro 6, it was transcoded from H.264 to Pro Res 422.
    Any advice is appreciated!

  • Video card recommendation for PPro and large stills

I'll be using PPro CS5 to create a video mixing video and stills, some quite large for zooming purposes. From what I read here my video card should be at least 1.5 meg VRAM? Is more VRAM automatically a hotter, more power hungry card? Can I go to 3 meg with a card that won't fry eggs?

Hotter, not really, more power hungry, yes. If you make it a custom to fry eggs @ around 50 degrees C or less when idle or below 65 C when under load, then you will probably succeed. However, not many people try that. Even overclocked by around 20% the load temps stay below 65 degrees C, at least in my case, but that is with the hotter and less efficient 480 with only 1.5 GB VRAM.
The 3 GB 580 is nice.

  • G4 Video Card Upgrade Recommendations?

I have a G4 Dual Gig Quicksilver PowerMac. Motion will not run with the stock GeForce4 MX card, so I need to upgrade. My speciality is in audio, and I'm unfamiliar with the current crop of video card options. Does anyone have any suggestions on which card(s) might be best? ATI or Nvidia?
I also have a 20 inch Cinema Display with an ADC connector, it looks like I'm out of luck trying to find a card to work without an adapter, but maybe there's a solution I missed?
    Thanks,

the top of the line for your mac which is the same is mine is the newest ATI Radeon 9800 pro with 256 megs of video ram. i have the same card although i just had to send mine in for some warranty repair.
it works well enough considering the age of the computer. i can get decent operation with motion and the open gl with after effects is nicer than with the stock nvidia card. however, it does increase the noise level from the quicksilver substantially.
i had to install the original video card and i miss my radeon 9800!
you can also get a radeon 9600 with the same amount of video ram and these cards are tested and compared at barefeats.com
