Recommended wifi router for Y2 tab 13?

At the moment, I have an old wifi "g" class router that's capable of about 50 Mbit/s (if I interpreted the specifications correctly). I see that new "n" class routers, as well as Yoga tablets, are capable of about 600 Mbit/s - that seems a great improvement. Could anyone recommend some particular model that works well and stable with Yoga tablets?
I've tried googling them and reading Amazon reviews, but I'm not much smarter after that... Some models I've looked at (I'm aware these support even better speeds than "n", but that seems a better and more future proof investment than pure "n" router):
TP Link Archer C7 - cheaper but said to be less reliable and slower than competition
Asus RT-AC68 - a lot of praise, but also a lot of (bad) 1 and 2 star reviews
Asus RT-AC87 - again a lot of praise, but also a lot of people with issues
Netgear R7000 - again mixed reviews and allegedly particularly bad support from manufacturer
I would be happy with just a reasonable speed improvement (for example, currently I can't stream any high definition movies and even just browsing folders on the other machine in local network is noticably slow) and I won't connect many devices simultaneously (typically 1 to 3).

Hi DigiMagic,
The prices of routers at the end of the day depends on the functionality which you are looking for. Example some routers have guest mode, kids mode, supports USB / NAS, etc etc.
Therefore at the end of the day, it would depend what will you be using the router for. As for myself, I have 2 access point at home due to my weak WLAN router and I am planning to get one which is dual band together with AC to ensure future proofing...
Hope that helps =D

Look on the support pages for your WiFi router for a firmware update for the router.
It's hard to say much more without knowing the make, model, and version of your WiFi router and how you have it configured.

  • My Deskjet 3050 J610 will not connect to my Virgin WiFi router for use with Apple Mac laptop.

I live in the UK and have Broadband access via a Virgin connection and WiFi router. My Apple MacBook laptop connects to the WiFi with no difficulties. However I have an HP Deskjet 3050 J610 printer which will not connect to the router. When I try to connect, the blue light just keeps on flashing but a connection is not found. Consequently my MacBook cannot "see" the printer on the network. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • Is it possible to be connected with a 3G modem for internet access and a WiFi router for printer sharing at the same time?

For our only internet access we have a 3G wireless modem. I have since purchased a WiFi printer and router to connect all the comptuters to in the house. The PCs have no problem with using both the 3G connection and the WiFi signal at the same time to print, however, the MacBook Pro will not connect to the 3G network and the router, it will drop the internet access from the modem and attempt to connect via WiFi (which has no internet access). Is there a solution that is available to remedy this? I attempted to create an adhoc printer network, however, the macbooks again will not print off of this, only the PCs. And I'm getting a bit frustrated overall with this.

The 3G wireless modem is on one of the PC's correct?
Why don't you pass the Internet through the Ethernet port to the router via Cat5 cable, then have that transmit a Wifi signal that everything else can use, then connect the printer to the router for print sharing?
You would have to turn off the wifi on the comptuer with the 3G modem as it's physically connected to the router and can't connect to the other machines as they are all connected to the router for sharing.
The Mac has the ability to pass, Internet Sharing in the System Preferences.
Do you have software for the Mac to run the 3G modem?

  • Best N wifi router for 2007 draft N macbook ?

I read that there can be a lot of N wifi compatability issues with these early draft N. laptops...
For a location servicing several PC laptops and one 2007 draft N MacBook, can anyone tell me what would be the best new router to buy?
Price is an issue... unless it is absolutely necessary, am trying to avoid buying the latest, greatest and most expensive.
Preference is also not for an Airport Extreme unless that is the only viable option.
    All tips appreciated.

What particular LinkSys Wifi router do you have that works well with your son's 2007 draft N macbook pro? There are number of models now. Also, do you have any idea of whether your son's macbook actually get's N speed connectivity?
It's a [WRT310N|http://www-id.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=LProductC2&childpagename=ID%2FLayout&cid=1175242816979&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisit orWrapper&lid=1697985430B01]. I can only assume that he gets N speeds or he would have mentioned it. I'll have to get back to you about any details that you have concerning his connections. He is in college and this is his winter break so I don't see him too much. The balance of our network that uses G is enjoying increased wireless coverage and an increase in bandwidth availability.

  • Best wifi router for iPad 2 on TalkTalk broadband

I need to choose a wifi router to suit my new iPad 2. I have not used wifi yet. I understand that many people have big problems with iPad wifi connections. I have TalkTalk broadband at about 4 Mbs.
TalkTalk supports only the following wifi routers: D-Link DSL: 2640R, 2740R, 2680, 2780
    Huawei: HG 521 & 532, Echolife HG 5206
    Netgear: DGN 2000, DG 8346 V3 & above, DG 834PN
Please would anybody who knows any of these models tell me how suitable they would be?
    Thank you.

The best router for all Apple products is the AirPort Extreme...should be compatible with any broadband modem but you will have to check with your ISP to see if they have any issues with it.

  • Recommended modem/router for multiple iChat

    Hi all,
I have several Macs on a small LAN accessing the internet using ADSL.
I am looking for a combined router/ADSL modem which has been proven to be compatible with such a configuration, knowing that all Macs should have the possibility to use iChat. That means, also, that I don't want to have to play with messy port forwarding or triggering
Alternatively, I would be happy to hear about other solutions that worked.
    Thanks in advance.

Say you want to upgrade your router in a year, you still have the modem... or say you move or something and switch provider, get cable or whatever else... you still have a router... If one breaks you still have the other, with the combo, you got to change both... Just my opinion, I am sure they have the same features too
I have this http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=530 and I have been very happy with it, all my macs can get on ichat at anytime, back to my mac works fine etc...

  • Problems using MBP as WiFi router for iPad2 (self-assigned IP address)

    H/W& S/W:
MBP 15" (model early 2011), running Snow Leopard,
    iPad 2 WiFi only, 64Gb, iOS 4.3.4 (8K2).
    Scenario:
I am in a location where there is no WiFi. MBP is connected via Ethernet to a DSL network, and has access to the Internet. I turn on Internet sharing, having set the following:
"Share your connection from" set to "Ethernet" and
    "Share computers using Airport" ticked.
Previously, I have then connected the iPad 2 via WiFi with the WiFi network created on the MBP, and succesfully worked from the iPad on the Internet (email, browsing, app downloads, ...).
    Problem:
Now, however, the iPad connects to the MBP's WiFi network, but when I attempt to access the Internet, I get such messages on the iPad  as "Safari is not connected to the Internet" or "Cannot Get Mail ...".
On investigation, I see that Airport on the MBP is in a YELLOW status: Status On, with the note "Airport has the self-assigned IP address 169.X.y.z, and will not be able to connect to the Internet".
On the iPad, the WiFi network shows the IP address 169.X.a.b (with a subnet mask (255.255.0.0).
    I have tried:
    1. turning Airport off and on
    2. renewing the DHCP lease on the MBP
    2. configuring IPv4 address in the MBP manually
    3. configuring the IP address manually on the iPad (not expecting anything with this, but ....)
    4. fixed Permissions" on the MBP disk (suggested on another support community web site)
But none of these make any difference.

    Hello,
I've had the exact same problem on my macbook and it really **** me off ! I tried all of the solutions written in this forum and none worked for me ! I was really starting get mad especially that my macbook is quite new...
And the thing is i have no Apple Store where i live which is a pretty F***g problem so I had to wait for vacations to go to france where I took my macbook for check at the apple store...
I just came back right now and my wifi works till now a least far much better than before...The guy was really nice he checked everything and he tried all the solutions on this forum too..Finally he tried to boot from one of '' apple's '' usb that has suberb booting systems...And it worked so finally he re-installed 10.6.5 as it was '' corrupted '' with wifi bugs ! For that he needed to delete everything on my macbook ! GREAT !
After 15 minutes the installation was done and it started like when you buy a new macbook !
And VOILA the Wifi came back to normal !
    Hope this helps...
If you have this problem go and see Apple Store or re-install yourself 10.6.5 !
    Thanks !

  • Wifi router reccomendations

Looking to purchase a wifi router for my iphone 3GS. Can you all chime in with models you've had luck with? Looking to get a 802.11g type.
*One other thing, would it a faster connection getting a "g" or an "n" and running it backwards? (I read that most n models are backward compatable with g and b version adapters)
    Thanks.

So given this information would a dual band with N do anything for me?
Not right now, but if you were to get the new iphone(it supports "N") or purchase a new laptop, you'd be glad you bought an "N" capable router. Do what you want/fits your budget. You asked for recommendations, I gave you mine.

  • Using Apple Airport as wifi router

I am using my Apple airport as my wifi router for two MacBooks with no trouble. However, our two iPhones and two iPads will not connect to the wifi network for some reason. Any tips?

Got it taken care of. If anyone else is having this issue...
    1. Go to airport utility
    2. Under Network Tab choose DHCP and NAT
    3. Hit "review settings"
    4. On basestation screen that it takes you back to "unclick" "Allow Setup over Wan"
    5. Hit update.
    Fixed.
