When compiling a tetris program I received the following note at the end of all the errors. What is "-depriociation"? and how can I compile useing it?

This means that one of the methods you are using has been replaced with a new method. To see which when use the -deprecation flag on javac, i.e.
javac -deprecation YourClassName.java

them for all the bugs in the 10.1.3 production
release, if the Oracle guys concentrated more on
getting something out quickly rather than providing a
reliable product.C'mon, the only reason I'm pushing this is the fact that from the (OTN) website it looks like 10.1.3 has been around for years, whereas the truth is that the actual production date is unknown. What I am experiencing around me is Oracle loosing credibility regarding Java/J2EE with their direct competitors already having J2EE 1.4 support. The project I'm currently involved in was forced to use 10.1.2.0.2 since it is the last production release of the Oracle Application Server. This is J2EE 1.3 technology which is fairly old stuff.
And... yes I'm amongst other things a developer and well aware of the challenges that come with creating software. Although in our projects we like to keep a relatively clear scope and not cramp as much features as possible in a version, just to satisfy the checklists :-)

Code overrides deprecated API...recompile with

Hi,
Need help compiling SampleProgram(see code below).
(using JDK 1.3.1_06. and JCreator 2.5 build 8)
The following code(see below) compiles with an error:

Compile the progam this way to show u where the deprecation is.
javac -deprecation SampleProgram.java
This show that button.setLabel("Cancel");
has been deprecated.
Why don't you do it just the way you set the label for the submit button.
That's like;
b2 = new JButton("Cancel");
By the way programs runs fine with the deprecation, its not an error.

I don't know what is it, and what does it prompt me to do.

An API you are using has been deprecated ^1^ (should no longer be used, for example Thread.stop ^2^ has been depricated as it is not safe to use).
Compiling with "Xlint:deprecation" will tell you what you are using, you can then look that up in the API to tell you what you need to do instead.

The deprecation message is only a warning. The code will compile even when deprecated. However, most code is deprecated for a reason, so you should try to find out what the substitution is (if one exists).
To find out what the problem is, the java compiler suggests you recompile using -Xlint: deprecation.
So instead of compiling using
javac YourClass.java
type
javac YourClass.java -Xlint:deprecation
You should get a message such as:

Is it the JDK version i'm using ? First i thought it's a security issue.As in windows is not letting me access the serial ports.
I checked with device manager.My serial ports are open. Ichanged my BIOS settings as well..
(I read inputs from parallel port.But i dont use the comm api for that)
I have installed the rxtx gnu.io package as well..
Tried import gnu.io.* instead of javax.comm.*; still the same compilatiion error!!!

It is basically a warning (not an error) that the compiler gives you to let you know that you are using a raw type where Java now supports generic types.
For example, in the code you use:
HashMap where you can use HashMap<String,String> to let the compiler know that you intend inserting Strings for both the key and the value. The former is considered to be unsafe because the compiler cannot control what is inserted into the HashMap while in the latter case it can ensure that only Strings are used for both keys and values.
The compiler is also letting you know that if you want to see the details of these "unsafe" operations you can use the -Xlint:unchecked option when compiling and the compiler will show you exactly which lines contain the code that is generating the warning. So to compile with this option you would use javac -Xlint:unchecked ClassToCompile.

You use "-Xlint:unchecked" as one of your command-line options. So instead of
javac Thingy.javayou do this instead:
javac -Xlint:unchecked Thingy.javaOf course if you already have several command-line options when you do your compiling, then you just need one more.

I took the sample integration domain. It is an integration domain. Just to be sure, I tried to extend WLI on top of the existing sample domain, and got a few "the feature already exist" warning dialog.
Wait...
I just tried to build again, this time it worked. I think you are right, the sample domain has some problem, and extending it helped.

hi friends ,
im using jdk-6-windows-i586. and apache-tomcat-5.5.26.
In development phase i got the following error while compiling
BeerExpert.java file. This is my model.
Note: BeerExpert.java uses unchecked or unsafe operations.
Note: Recompile with -Xlint:unchecked for details.
But the class file is created. Is this any type of error or just warning msg.
What is the meaning of this and what to do for it.
Then I recompile the file with javac -Xlint BeerExpert.java or javac -Xlint:unchecked BeerExpert.java

I am new to Java and am working through Sams Teach Yourself Java2 book. One of the examples gave me a compilation error. The problem code follows:

The book probably was published before Java had Generics. You can do as the error message says and recompile with the Xlint:unchecked option. Basically, you need to specify the type of objects you are putting into the LinkedList, something like      private LinkedList<Item> catalog = new LinkedList<Item>();This may cause you other errors.........

How to recompile with zinc?

Hello, i wanted to change the name of the xml file that it saved to so i asked on the forum. A person gave me the editted script below however they also told me that in order for this to work i must recompile it with zinc. I have never worked with zinc before can someone please explain to me how to that, i have zinc 3.0

Old app recompiled with f77 failed but succeed with g77

hello all,
i need to recompile an old app written in fortran77, but it fails at the execution:

Note: IEEE floating-point exception flags raised:
    Inexact; Underflow; Invalid Operation;
See the Numerical Computation Guide, ieee_flags(3M) after generating a core, dbx tells me:

Is there a flag in f77 to mimic the g77 behaviour?

it seems that the problem is related to COMMON variables, as they are strangely declared, but as i said before, it's a "commercial" app, even if this is the responsibility of the customer to recompile it.
What we observed is that, before entering into a function, a variable decalred in a COMMON has a correct value, but in the function, it contains NaN. In the earlier releases, according to the official docs, developers used to use sun compiler, so my guess is that something has changed in Sun f77 since the old times?
i gave a try with old workshop WS6.u2, the program failed too, but i'm unable to generate a core or to tell the debugger to stop where the error occured:
