Reconciliation vs. Synchronization

Can anyone explain the difference between reconciliation and synchronization in IDM? I realize active synch is a form of synchronization but is reconcilation just what is done up front before you go live with an IDM deployment or is there more to it? Please give as much detail as possible. :-)

simply put, reconciliation is the seeding process. it can take minutes, hours, or days based on the number of resources you are seeding accounts from. I had a client with 300k that was taking over 3 days !
Synch is just dealing with the delta changes.
Synch is two way, such as changing a password will synch to all resources and if the password is changed on a resource it may be pulled into IDM to be pushed to other resources. Recon is one way, pulling from resources,it doesn't push(except for a per-acct workflow)
There's no 'magical' number for how long seeding/synch would take. It all depends on your design, and any custom workflows you might have.

Problem with Gmail synchronization

I have both my work email configured via BES service and my private Gmail account on my Bold 9700.
Recently I noticed that when I delete emails on the 9700 it reflects almost immediately both on Gmail web interface and both in my Outlook. However, if I delete emails from either the web or Outlook there are no changes on the device.
I opened a case with my mobile provider and they did some tests on several devices on their side and also told me to delete and re-configure my Gmail account. They also configured my Gmail account on their devices, All these confirmed that there is a problem.
After a few days they called back and told me that there is nothing wrong with the service and that the synchronization from Outlook/Web with the device happen after several hours. They also stated that according to RIM's documentation this is how it should work.
Well, if it's true don't you find it quite troubling?
What annoys me the most that I'm sure that when I first configured Gmail on my device the sync was much more frequent.
The support team also mentioned something about BIS upgrade and that that's how RIM decided to implement IMAP4.
Is that true?
Did anybody experience what I mentioned as well?

Email reconciliation with the BlackBerry Internet Service is from the BlackBerry smartphone to the messaging server, and the messaging server to the BlackBerry smartphone. For reconciliation changes to occur in an email application such as Microsoft Outlook, the email application must reconcile with the messaging server, not the BlackBerry smartphone.

Outlook Blackberry Email Synchronization

I am currently running Blackberry Desktop Manager, Version 5.0, on a Vista operating system. My calendar and contacts are synced to my Outlook Contacts and Calendar without any specific problems, however, I cannot get Outlook email to sync with the Blackberry. My Outlook folder contains two PST files that are gmail accounts and both are working fine with gmail. On the Blackberry Desktop Manager, the synchronization screen has a check box to "Reconcile email messages"
The check box is grayed out and I cannot select this option, therefore I assume this is why I cannot synchronize my email.
Has anyone lese encountered this problem? Is it fixable?

How, exactly, are you receiving you remails on your BB? If OTA via BIS, there usually is no reason to reconcile to your email client since your BB is reconciling to your email server (as is your email client). See this demo page for email configuration instructions:

Reconciliation: push updates from an OpenLDAP into OIM 11g

Is there in the latest OIM a "push" connector that would allow a reconciliation process (ie inward flow into OIM) starting from an OpenLDAP directory system?

Yeah, you're right, unfortunately we have dual authorative password model, where a user can change the password from OIM when he is accessing a OIM through a web interface or from his Windows machine through the domain controller. We need the use case to work fully both ways ideally.
A plan-B solution is to use a directory synchronization mechanism outside of OIM that would connect OID and AD, but we would prefer not to.

Synchronization of OID and Novell Edirectory

I did set up OID to synchronize with Novell edirectory using dipassistant, bootstrapped it and run ODISRV with the correct configuration number. Novell edirectory is leading, admin is done in edirectory only. Authentication is done through external authentication at the edirectroy. Works too.
Adding users, groups and users to groups works fine. Even removing users from groups works ok. The only thing that does not work is deleting users or groups. They still exist in OID after removing them from edirectory.
I tried setting the 'check all entries' configuration parameter to true: no results.
Set the debug level to 511: I get debug info, but deletions are not detected at all.
Any ideas, anyone?

Part of the problem solved. This is a weird situation: allthough creating new entries is done every 60 seconds, reconciliation is done once a day (24 hrs, i.e. 86400 seconds..).
This explains (half) the sudden error message I get: after failing deleting one of the groups, reconcile stops. This group failed to delete for some reason, maybe because it came from a different bootstrapped profile, and domain mapping rules failed on this group. After deleting manually some problematic groups, reconcile works.
The weird thing however is this: the reconciliation period parameter IS NOT SHOWN in Oracle Directory Manager 10.1.4!!! (Tried 2 installations. on windows server 2003!) Using OID Manager 10.1.2 (same platform) however showed me this parameter, and after setting it to 60 seconds, reconcile does show up and log in the.aud files every minute (which may not be desired to run every minute in prod. situations off course). I know (now) this interval can be set using dipassistant.
Once reconcile is running, I get a new error in my trace file:
Unable to delete the entry :cn=agroup1,cn=roc,cn=groups,dc=rocvantwente,dc=nl as the binddn doesnot have permission to delete it javax.naming.NoPermissionException: [LDAP: error code 50 - Insufficient Access Rights]; remaining name 'cn=agroup1,cn=roc,cn=groups,dc=rocvantwente,dc=nl'

Synchronize deleted messages for Hotmail

It seems that this feature no longer works for Hotmail. Does anyone have more information on this? I've read some posts about new agreements between RIM and Microsoft and BIS 2.5 vs 2.2 but I'm still at a loss why something that used to work is being taken away. My first generation Pearl synchronized deleted messages with Hotmail flawlessly (within minutes). But now I have an 8110 and it doesn't work. Is this the case with all Blackberries using Hotmail?
Does anyone know if they will re-activate this feature again in the future or should I just change my email to Gmail. With that, I understand there's no synchronization of read/unread status. Is this true?

If you check under Messages | Options | Email Reconciliation, is your "Delete On" set to Mailbox and Handheld for your hotmail account? If so then it should be working where messages you delete from the BlackBerry will delete from Hotmail. Same goes for for Gmail.
The read/unread status also do a one-way reconciliation - where if you read a message on the BlackBerry it will appear as read in your email program

Changing vendor reconciliation account

Hi Experts
There are around 1500 vendors for whom we entered wrong reconciliation account. There would be around 20000 line items (uploaded line items, open line items and cleared line items).
Now I want to know what would be the best practice for correcting mistake.
1. Do we need to create new vendor master and transfer balances to new balances to vendor master using LSMW program
2. Do we need to change reconciliation account and run F101 every month end for next 8-10months unless all opening balance is knocked off.
Please let me know impact of above two options considering volume and reporting.

If option 2 is acceptable to business, then I would suggest to go with second option, SAP allows to modify Reconciliation account with respective configuration change at master data setup. However, I am not sure, how system would react in following situation, please do a POC for same:
After recon account is changed from 1000 to 1001 at respective vendor master record, and you are processing a payment for against open item, which was recorded with 1000 recon account. In this case, just double check, whether system is able bring open items for clearing and also check it is adjusting against 1000 recon account.

Change Customer Reconciliation Account

I need some assistance in verifying the steps for changing Recon account for a group of customers.
Scenario. We have a group of customers (about 60) who have postings to them. Some of the posting are open and some are cleared. We need to change the reconciliation account on these customers. We are running under ECC 6.0
I know how to change the reconciliation account on the customer. That is not a problem. The problem comes with handling the open and cleared items already posted to these customers.
I believe that at some point in time I need to run trans F101. In order to run this transaction I need to define an adjustment account using transaction OBBW. One of my questions here is do I define this as an adjustment account for both the old and the new reconciliation account or for just the old reconciliation account.
Now most of my questions relate to:
1.     What are the steps required in order to run F101(FAGLF101 for 6.0)?
2.     Is there something that I will need to do each month or will this be a one time situation only for me?
3.     Will/are there any special steps required for clearing the open items once the reconciliation accounts have been changed?
4.     Is there anything else (any gotchas) that I should be aware of?
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

the thread you sent me answers part of my questions (namely the fact that I need multiple recon adjustment accounts and the basic steps for executing F101 (FAGLF101).
However, with regards to my other questions, here is what I am interpreting from the thread.

<b>Assumed answer:</b> Apparently not. I will clear the old items (posted but not cleared at the time I changed the recon account) from the old recon account; clear new items (posted and cleared after I change the recon account) for the customer for the new recon account.
Am I correct on this?

Questions on AP and PO Accrual Reconciliation?

Dear all,
I know the purpose of "The AP and PO Accrual Reconciliation Report" provides a transactional breakdown of each accrual account with a net balance not equal to zero in a summarized or full transaction details version.
However, I found out that on of the Purchase Order has been done the PO receipt and created an invoice in AP (validate and accounted). But the report still showing PO is 0 and AP is 343,000 in AP and PO Accrual Reconciliation report. I am just wondering what I have done wrong suppose the PO and AP should be equal in that case.

How can I synchronize all hotmail folders in Mac's "Mail"? (Not just Inbox)

I tried to synchronize my hotmail accounts in Mac's Mail but only those emails inside "Inbox" can be synchronized. No other folders under my hotmail can be synchronized. Is there any tools to solve this problem?

How do I add my Hotmail account to my Mail app on my MacBook Pro so that it synchronize automatically ?

Hi guys, I'm new to Mac. I know that you can add email accounts likeHotmail into your Mail app so that you can view, edit, modify, create and delete your emails and folders, etc. The questions I have are (1) can I see all the emails I have not just in the inbox but all the other folders as well just like if I was logging on to Hotmail via Internet Explorer ? (2) what happens if I read some emails, delete or move some emails, create new emails and send or save in draft, create or delete folders, etc in the Mail app on my MacBook Pro, will this synchronize and reflect the same on my Hotmail account if I was to logging via Internet Explorer ? How about the other way ? If so, how do I set it up on my MacBook Pro to do this automatically ?
I know that this doesn't work with Hotmail accounts on my iPhone 4 via the Mail app. Everytime I read an email or delete an email on my Mail app, it does not synchronize or reflect the same on my live Hotmail account when I logging via Internet Explorer.

Error while scheduling Background Job for User/Role Full Synchronization

Hi all,
We have installed RAR 5.3 Component and uploaded the authorization data & established the connectors to the backend system.
We have performed all the post installation activities and everything is complete.
When we have scheduled User -Full Synchronization with the Back End system as a part of Post Installation Activity we are receiving the below error message
"Error while executing the Job:Cannot assign an empty string to host variable 2."
Also the VIEW LOG/ Terminate Job buttons are disabled in this screen.
Can somebody please help us in resolving the above issue

Please kindly refer to note 1132591 and note 1128677 to see if these are relevant to this issue. Upgrading to 2007A PL15 or above may avoid such issues relevant with the error 'Error in updating OBNK Table'.
