Reconditioning Array, Drive Reporting Multiple Errors

While reconditioning an array to write off bad blocks, and a certain drive is generating, reporting multiple errors, can I remove that drive and replace it with another drive module?
Or will i lose the array? I would love to know very soon, as it's only 14% thru reconditioning & we've had over 150 messages that say:
Disk 11 Reported An Error. COMMAND:0x37 ERROR:0x64 STATUS:0x81 LBA:0x44D1A80

-pulled out the Apple stickered 250GB hitachi deskstar drive out of the apple drive module and put in your own hitachi deskstar drive in the module and used it effectively?
I've heard it can be done... the only difference that I am noticing is that the apple stickered drive is 251 GB and the one I purchased that was closest match is 250 GB. I've heard it can be done... just looking for other feedback.
I just don't see the point in buying a brand new apple certified drive module when our xraid is out of warranty with no apple care. Yes its certified-but if there's a way to slash reinvesting in server components by 50%... without ANY compromise-wouldn't you do it?
I know I may get reamed for saying something like that but hey, if you can't support on something thats certified...
thanks

  • "Drive Reported an Error" message when burning a DVD+RW

    Hi, all!
I am trying to burn a rewritable DVD, HP DVD+RW on my Matshita R UJ 857E and each time I try I always get the following message:
    *Drive Reported an Error:*
    *Sense Key = MEDIUM ERROR*
    *Sense Code = 0x73, 0x03*
This happens with a few RW DVD disks that I tried to burn. The disks are HP disks and they work correctly on a PC.
    Please, advise!

    Hi All
I'm also having problems burning DVDs on my MacBook Pro, no problems buring CDs.
Each time I try to burn a DVD the disc is ejected, often during finishing, and 'medium write error'is displayed. I have tried different media and varying speeds but with no success, Suggestions?
After reading and testing a lot, I am convinced this is a DVD ROM problem. I believe, MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857E has some problems with some brands DVD+R discs.
I simply cannot figure out what is the reason to go on using those dvd roms in MakBooks after so many problems reported...

  • I have a MacBook Pro, Matshita UJ-857E while recording music my drive reported an error: Sense Key=HARDWARE ERROR Sense Code=0x03,0x01 I have no idea what this means, and now my cd burner/player won't work. can someone help me fix this problem?

Please Help me. I am having problems with my MATSHITA UJ-857E DVD-R burner/writer. I burned 4 cd's and then it stopped working.
I can select my songs, and then it asks for a blank disc. It starts preparing to write the disc, then it says,"
The drive reported an error: Sense Key= HARDWARE ERROR Sense Code= 0x09,0x01 TRACKING SERVO FAILURE.
Can anyone give me some advice on how to fix it or what this means because I have no idea what it is talking about or how to begin to fix the problem?

This is an error reported by the optical drive's firmware. The tracking servo is the servomechanism which guides the laser pickup along the track on the optical disc. The error means that the servo couldn't do its job within the programmed parameters. What it doesn't say is why.
You have to be very precise as to when this error occurs. If it occurs as you wrote, while it "starts preparing to write the disc", and not when it has actually began to burn, then it's likely that the drive has gone bad and needs to be replaced.
There are other possibilities, so you should check them, but they would be more likely if the error occurred after the drive began to write. OrangeMarlin has suggested two options -- try a different brand of CD or DVD, and try cleaning the lens.

  • When attempting to burn, "The drive reported an Error..."

"The Drive reported an error: Sense Key=MEDUIM ERROR; Sense Code=X0C; WRITE ERROR" (Toast)
also the 0x8002006E (with Apple OSX disk burner) sometimes get 0x80020063
I have not seen an answer and have been looking for a while as I am busy and don't have time to take the computer in for repair...but it looks like that is the case.
MacBook Pro is about 10 months old. Burning has been failing (off and on) for about 2-3 months, but have not been able to burn for about 2-3 weeks now at all.
    Any other ideas or thoughts?:
    1) I eliminated the Preferences>com.apple.finder.plist
    2) I did the whole, take the battery out, hold down power key +5 keys thing, bong bong
    3) I blew air from an air compressor into the slot to clean it out
    4) I tried burning through disk utility.
    5) Got a disk cleaner, Maxell brand CD_R Disk Cleaner disk, and cleaned the drive.
    6) I ran out of Maxell and HP disks, and am using Verbatim disks
    7) everything flat. do not jiggle computer. have rebooted etc. no programs running.
I can burn successfully through firewire to my external burner.
Sounds like this is it, right? DVD burner shot?

I have 24 GB left on HD, I think that should be enough. I had had less, but I have cleared out a lot (using my external DVD burner).
That may be your problem, Jane. Once free space on a drive gets fragmented simply clearing things out somewhat won't necessarily fix it, especially, but not only, if you are removing large, recently created, files that were probably already badly fragmented themselves.
But, alternatively, have you tried simply running that disk cleaner a couple more times?
If your drive IS dirty, and you are still under your 12 month warranty, Apple will almost certainly simply replace it for you under warranty anyway, by the way.

Go to the hard drive find the following folders and look for the following file, com.apple.finder.Plist, delete it and restart the computer. Its found under the following folder Users-account name-library-prefrences. This helped resolve my issue for now.

  • Sdo_geom.validate_geometry_with_context - Reporting multiple errors

    All Oracle versions.
sdo_geom.validate_geometry_with_context appears to report only the first error it finds in an sdo_geometry.
Thus, it reports only the first duplicate vertex in "ORA-13356: adjacent points in a geometry are redundant", or only
the first loop in a ring for "ORA-13349: polygon boundary crosses itself".
I understand that, for some errors, reporting more than one error would be difficult but for more simple errors such as
the two mentioned, it would be most helpful to have validate_geometry_with_context report more than one error location
in its return string. Such reporting would reduce the time and effort required in find-fix-find error correction cycle.
    Comments?
    regards
    Simon

A triangle is a bad example for ORA-13349. In fact, it is impossible for a triangle not to be right unless two points are the same.
I don't agree with a lot of the comments because I know that many simple types of errors can be detected. Here is
a polygon with a hole that has multiple 13349 errors because of "bow-ties" or "loops in the outer boundary".

software packages provide such capability so it is possible. And, these are data-level issues so I think it reasonable that Oracle
provides an improved set of functions and not hand it over to external GIS software clients.

  • What does this mean? drive reported error: sense key = medium error, etc,

What does this error message mean and what can I do about it?
While trying to burn a CD, about 15 seconds after the burn started, I got this error message:
    The drive reported an error:
    Sense Key = MEDIUM ERROR
    Sense Code = 0x73, 0x03
What does this mean and what can I do about it? Any help greatly appreciated. TIA, Bill

I have no idea what the error means. However, need a little more info from you.
What type of CD are you using, audio or data? -R, -RW?
    Any problems previously?

  • Disk 6 Reported an Error

Everytime I try to add an array to the XRAID I get all sorts of notifications saying that a drive reported an error. Drive 6 seems to be reporting the most errors but each drive (1 - 6) in the array has reported errors. The typical error that drive 6 is reporting is:
    COMMAND:0x66 ERROR:0x64 STATUS:0x81
Each time the error is reported the controller restarts and continues on with creating the array.
Can anybody pass along some insight as to what this error means and how to proceed?
    XRAID   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

If you open the "Event Properties" you will probably see a message like this one:
"The drive reported an ATA error. This is a failure in the communication from the RAID Controller to the drive."
I'm not sure what the precise cause is; it could be a number of things, including the drive or the drive module hardware. I'd suggest replacing the drive module with a new one from Apple (hopefully covered by a warranty or AppleCare service agreement).

    Hi,
While refreshing the WEBI Reports would recommend you check the WEBI PROCESSING Server's last changed date from CMC--> Servers.
Check when you are refreshing the reports, do you see the time stamp changed of WEBI PROCESSING servers?
Do you keep getting this error messages for all WEBI reports? Can you re-produce this with simple e-fashion reports as well?
After that go to the node where WEBI PROCESSING servers installed and check on the event viewer details if you see any relevant error messages.

The UserInfo in the SeucuritySession: userInfo was always null so whatever i pass in, it was not storing them.
    (EnterpriseSession:logon=(SecuritySession:userInfo=null)
All i need to do is to add   IUserInfo userInfo = null;  before IEnterpriseSession then it will store the user & password.

    Lines like this:
Failed to get IWbemService Ptr for \\localhost\root\Microsoft\appvirt\client
simply means that for that particular client, that wmi namespace does not exist.  I suspect that namespace does not exist on that particular client because for the specific client, it does not have the APPv client.
or like this: Failed to get IWbemService Ptr for \\localhost\root\vm\VirtualServer    means that for that particular client, it does not have Microsoft VirtualServer installed (which you MIGHT have on a server, maybe).
anything like that can be easily ignored and explained.  the only reason to care about those would be if you absolutely 100% KNOW that the namespace root\vm\virtualserver does exist on that client, and it does have instances, and then you are wondering
why it's not reporting.  then maybe you would be concerned.  Otherwise, your log file looks perfectly fine.
So; what problem are you trying to solve?

  • Capturing multiple errors

I thought that the Merge Errors would show me multiple errors (if they occurred).  However, after reading more closely, I realized that Merge Errors will 'report the first error found'.  I have a situation where there are 2 and sometimes 3 possible sources of error that I'd like to funnel into one Error Out and display all three errors.  Is this possible, or do I have to have an Error Out for each Error in.

    Hi mrbean,
If you're still open to ideas, here are a couple of VIs - one for Building an error, the other for Merging two errors.  They will encorporate new error-info while preserving "existing" error-cluster information (even if it's non-fatal).  In the (relatively) rare instances where multiple error-clusters need to be merged, I just cascade the "binary"-merge!  Of course this isn't designed to address arrays of errors!
    Cheers.

  • RAID Disk reporting an error 0x40, 0x51

On one of our Xserve RAIDs, we are getting an error:
    Disk 9 Reported An Error. ERROR:0x40 STATUS:0x51 LBA:0xAA010300000000
It has repeated this error a few times over the last few weeks. What does this code mean? What action (if any) should I take?

I had this same error, on two different drives on the same controller today. I called Apple Enterprise Support and they said that it's unlikely that this indicates a bad drive. They suggested that I do a hard reset on the controller, and see if the problem continues. Even if it does, it could be the controller as well as a drive.
Before I called support, I had pulled the first drive that reported the problem and replaced it with a spare. I ran tests on the original drive that had reported the problem, formatted it with zeros and with 7-pass, and it seems fine. This lends credence to the controller being the problem, since it's not an obviously bad drive.
I have to wait until the spare finishes rebuilding to reset the controller, but I'll try it and report the results.
Enterprise Support also said that these errors are probably more likely starting with firmware v1.5, as the tolerances have been tightened somewhat.
Firmware v1.5 also has a new feature called Background Array Conditioning that can be run if desired. This feature can remap any bad blocks, along with correcting "off track writes". I'll be running that after the controller reset to see if anything is reported on the drives involved in these errors.

  • HP G62-b23SA - Imminent Hard drive failure - SMART Error (301)

My HP G62-b23SA  reports a imminent hard disk failure. Hard disk test reports SMART Error (301).  Advised to back up the system and contact HP support to enquire if Hard disk  needs to be replaced or just needs repair. I have since backed up the system, should it be replaced?
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
The 301 Smart error would indicate that your Hard Drive is failing and will need to be replaced.
If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced.  You can check your warranty status Here.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.
If you are in another part of the world, start Here.
If you are out of warranty and would like a guide on replacing the Hard Drive yourself, please let me know - include the size ( ie 500Gb ) of your current HDD.
    Regards,
    DP-K

  • After Upgrade OBI 10g to 11g:Odbc driver returned an error - SQLExecDirectW

    Hi all,
for an OBI upgrade from 10g to 11g I used a RPD and Webcatalog based on a remote machine other than my local machine. Firstable I am making the tests on a Linux Virtual machine, which uses the Sample Lite version from Oracle.
    I made the following steps:
    1. I upgraded the RPD and Webcatalog. It worked without any errors.
    2. I set the static variable BI_EE_HOME via Administration Tool to the path in the Linux machine.
--> Here I am not sure if the set path is correct. It begins with: \bi\ ...\instances\...\coreapplication_obis1 (... : I can't mention here the whole path name).
--> When the OBI Server is installed in Windows, the mentioned static variable points to something like 'C:\<install folder>\...\coreapplication_obis1'
--> Question: is the begin of my set path correct?. I set that pointing to the Linux OBI Server, because the OBI Server is installed on Linux.
    Problem:
After login as the user in RPD: Administrator/<Password for my upgraded RPD> I can see the links in the Catalog and the Dashboards links. But I can not see any values, any Reports when going through the links.
For example when trying to see a Dashboard with date 12.02.2011it happens:
Odbc driver returned an error (SQLExecDirectW).
    Status: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] general error.
[nQSError: 43113] Message returned from OBIS.
    [nQSError: 43119] Query Failed:
[nQSError: 17001] Oracle Error code: 12154, message: ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
    at OCI call OCIServerAttach.
[nQSError: 17014] Could not connect to Oracle database. (HY000)
    SQL Issued: SELECT "Dimension_-_My Dimension"."MyDimension" saw_0 FROM "Accounting (ACC)" WHERE "Dimension_-_My Dimension"."MyDimension" LIKE 'J%' ORDER BY saw_0
I think its not retrieving the data from the remote database, because I don't have the data of the remote database in my local. I think the OBI Server still is pointing to the local virtual machine Oracle database.
Can anybody tell me what happens here and how can I solve this problem?.
    I would appreciate any help....

    Hi gerardnico,
I've tried many things and did as in your articles, but I don't have success with that.
These are the things I did:
    1. I searched for the file tnsnames.ora in my Linux virtual machine. I could find it in many paths:
    /.../Oracle_BI1/network/admin/samples/tnsnames.ora
    /.../oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/hs/admin/tnsnames.ora.sample
    /.../oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/network/admin/tnsnames.ora
    /.../oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/network/admin/samples/tnsnames.ora
    /.../oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/network/admin/temp/tnsnames.ora
    /.../usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/network/admin
in the last path I found the listener.ora as well.
    2. I took the tnsnames.ora from the last path, because the ORACLE_HOME points to /.../usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server
    3. I edited the tnsnames.ora this way:
    # tnsnames.ora Network Configuration File:
    XE =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = host_of_the_remote_machine)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = database_name_of_the_remote_machine)
    EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC_FOR_XE))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = database_SID_of_the_remote_machine)
    (PRESENTATION = RO)
    4. I made a backup of the tnsnames.ora in path /.../Oracle_BI1/network/admin/samples/tnsnames.ora
and copied the tnsnames.ora from /.../usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/network/admin to the Oracle_BI1 path
    5. I set the TNS_ADMIN to /.../usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/network/admin
    6. I restarted the BI Server
No success in what I did. The error is still there.
    7. I've tried also: sqlplus database_user_remote_machine/database_password_remote_machine@database_SID_remote_machine
    I didn't get the connection:
    SQL*Plus: Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production on Thu Jun 16 04:36:10 2011
Copyright (c) 1982, 2005, Oracle. All rights reserved.
    ERROR:
ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
    Enter user-name: database_user_remote_machine
    Enter password:
    ERROR:
    ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
Linux Error: 2: No such file or directory
What am I doing wrong here?. I am still thinking that I need the import of the database.
Additional SID=Service-Name=Database-name in the remote machine.
