Reconfiguring the engine | CPU @ 100% | AIP-5

It seems that almost everytime I log into the IPS Manager for the ASA-SSC-AIP-5 that it is reconfiguring the engine and the CPU is at 100%.  I am on sig version 625.0 and I knwo the current should be like S632.  Basically, this thing always seems to be in bypass mode so what is the point?  It's frustrating.
Has anyone else experienced this?  Is there somethign that should be done for performance, or do I need to look at my configurationg for something?
Maybe I am just checking for updates too often?
I'm looking for any suggestions or best practices for using these.
Thanks.

Quite long, but here goes:

  • ASE freeze with CPU 100% and IO 0%

    Hi,
I have a production ASE server using 30 CPU's that's is "freezing" several times in the last week (requiring an machine reboot) and from the last sysmon taken we see that the first 4 cpu are 100% with IO 0%.

From SysWaits we see that event 29 (waiting for regular buffer read to complete) is high when we experience this problem.
No change was reported and the users and saying the system to be in the overall slower in the last weeks.
The version is the old 12.5.4 with the latest patch available and the OS is HP-UX.The machine has 256Gb of memory.
As anyone experienced a behavior like this?
    Thanks

    Hi Ricardo
I have seen this when underlying storage changed from raw SAN devices to NAS file system devices.
tempdb writes after a certain amount of volume queued up in a serial way choking the whole server.
This may or may not be what is happening on your server.
Having said that : If this is not something new  then what was the last change in your case ?
    Especially related to storage
Wait event 29 is related to storage and  I/O.

  • Is there a way to communicate across subnets with the GPIB-ENET/100?

I have a GPIB-ENET/100 that I am using. It is sitting on my engineering subnet. My PC is sitting on my corporate subnet and I am trying to communicate between the two. I can ping the device from my PC but the MAX cannot discover it. I noticed there is a message saying that this utility will only discover devices on the same subnet but was wondering if there has been any work arounds done or s/w upgrades available that will allow this to work?

MAX will certainly not discover it because it does so by sending out a broadcast packet and routers between subnets are designed to ignore broadcast packets (rightfully so, otherwise all broadcast packets from every subnet in the world would propogate over the entire internet).
I believe that you will be able to get this working by manually specifying the IP address (or hostname) of the GPIB-ENET/100 once you have it setup in MAX. If it is setup as, say, GPIB0, right click on that in MAX, go to Properties, and go to the Network Settings tab. In that field you can specify whatever IP Address/hostname you'd like. As the text points out, you cannot auto-discover using the "Search" utility since you are on a different subnet, but if you know your ENET/100 IP add
ress then you should not need that.
Let me know how this goes.

  • Slow throughput Ironport S370 Proxy CPU 100%

    We have a cluster of 3 x Ironport S370's all running 7.7.0-753
The throughput is really poor we have a 500Mbps Internet connection which at it's peak is only getting to 120Mbps as the Ironports don't seem to be able to handle the traffic.
The Proxy CPU% is always close to 100% but the overall CPU is usually at no more than 30% at times it can take up to 60 seconds to load the initial page particularly if the site is an HTTPS site.
    We have
    22 Identities
    62 Access policies
    6 decryption Policies
Our maintainer says that having this number of Identities / policies should not be an issue but I have my doubts.
Can anyone advise as it's really become a major issue, Output from the rate and status commands are below.

IMPORTANT: During testing of AsyncOS 7.7.0, Cisco observed performance changes ranging from +
33% to - 16%, depending on the model and configuration. Performance degradation risk is limited to
S160 & S360 models and models S370 and S660 that are running the web proxy without security
services. If you experience performance degradation with AsyncOS 7.7.0, Cisco recommends that you
    revert to AsyncOS 7.5.x.

Safari can't connect to the server "localhost".
The only thing I can think of off-hand that would cause this is if mod_status was disabled (which you might have done thinking you didn't need it). It would be a good idea to re-enable this, even if only short-term, to get an idea of what's going on.
mod_status is not listed in Web > Modules
Not sure if it will help significantly but I did enable the query cache for MySQL.
The query cache will generally help reduce load on the database server, but only if there's sufficient RAM on the server to cache the queries and results. The real question is how mush RAM is your system using? If it's out of memory then enabling the query cache can be detrimental.
For that matter, do your sites seem slow? Is your only concern the relatively high CPU load? or are pages loading slowly, too?
The pages are taking exceptionally long to load.
    The 1.7 Gb Ram...Yes, it's a config of 512-512-512-256.
Swapping that 256MB for a 512MB seems like a no-brainer, no matter what else you do. It'll cost you $20 from OWC.
    You're right...no brainer. Will do
Was wondering if a permissions issue could create the problems I'm having with Apache?
Unlikely. If apache didn't have permission to serve a file it would throw an error page back pretty quickly. I can't see this is the cause, but a quick look at apache's error log will tell you if there are any permission issues.
The site was running well this morning but as bloggers logged into Wordpress and general traffic picked up, the CPU load ramped up to 100% and pages are now loading very slowly.

  • Will Elements and Lightroom open RAW files fro the Sony DSCRX-100 camera?

I have the RX100 and confess to be an Adobe fan.   You did not say which Lightroom or which elements you want to use.  You need the latest versions.
Photoshop Elements 11 comes with Adobe Camera RAW (ACR) version 7.0 in place when you install it.  Under the help menu, there is a choice to check for updates.  If you do, ACR 7.2 installs.  The RX100 is included in 7.2.  Previous versions of Photoshop Elements will not udate to 7.2.  When you open a RAW photo, a screen pops up that lets you adjust, convert and save to something Photoshop Elements can handle.
You have to have Lightroom 4.2 to get RX100 usefulness.  Lightroom uses, but hides, the ACR engine.  Instead the slider controls are built in the user interface.  When you buy it, it installs as 4.0.  The help menu also has an update choice so that you can get to 4.2 from 4.0.
You didn't ask, but Premier Elements 11 is a good choice for video because it is he first version that "officially" supports the high quality 1080p60 or "PS" setting in the RX100.
On T day, I shot RAW photos of my granddaughters dancing to a Wii game in terrible light.  Yesterday I "adjusted" the batch of RAW shots taken with the RX100 in Lightroom and saved them as .jpg files.  Today, I wll make a video in Premier Elements from those .jpg images, put in some pan and zoom effects, add a sound track and put it on Vimeo.
My view is that an RX100 owner needs PSE 11, PrE 11 and Lightroom 4 to take advantage of the camera's capabilties.  Setting it on "fine" .jpg and uploading snapshots to Flicker leaves an awful lot on the table!

    Hello,
In your dynamic SQL you are trying to access the local temporary table #AIP, which was created in the stored procedure. You run the dynamic SQL with sp_Executesql, which starts as a separate session, where you can't access the local temp table from the other
    session; this don't work.
Use a global temp table, which will cause other issues, or run everything as one big dynamic SQL statement.

  • CPU 100% at idle PSE 8

I have installed PSE 8 on a laptop PC (Acer Travelmate 4001) under Windows XP. The active organizer uses 100% CPU continuously, without special activities. This lasts for hours. Upon initiating an activity from the menu CPU usage drops after a few seconds to about zero, awaiting further specification of the activity. After closing the activity, for instance addition of a remark, the 100% CPU resumes.
    - is this normal?
    - could it be the source of PSE program closure while adding metadata to the files (recommended for transfer to Adobe Bridge on Mac)?
    - how can I get rid of this?

  • Cpu 100%, cpu 100%

this is crazy  everytime i turn on itunes it uses 100% of my cpu   it will not allow me to back up or sync anything please help

OK, I have been to **** and back since updating  iTunes to version 10.5.3.3. Basically it hogs 100% of your CPU. I read all the articles and forums I could find and tried out everything including Win socket resets, re-installations etc. Nothing worked. My objective is purely to get iTunes in any version format to work so I can use iTunes again.
I am now smiling and using iTunes. This is what I did.
    SYSTEM RESTORE POINT
As always, create a system restore point so you have something to restore to in case something goes wrong
    UNINSTALL PROPERLY
Go to control panel, programs and uninstall the below Apple related applications
    iTunes
    Quicktime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
    iPhone
any other Apple related product you can find
Delete or move any *.itl files (iTunes databases)
You need to remove these as when you install an earlier version of iTunes it will not be compatible with the newer version
    Clean registry
Run a registry cleaner. I used the free one as part of the Tweaknow Power pack
    Manual registry clean up
Run Regedit in admin mode and search for anything Apple and iTunes.  (F3 to do next search).
    NEW INSTALL
Go to http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.php and download iTunes 10.1 (64-bit).  I tried later versions but had the same CPU issue (not sure why as I was on the second latest iTunes version which worked find until the upgrade).
    Caviat
The above worked for me and was done at my own risk. If you choose to try the above you do so at your own risk and I accept no responsibility and liability what so ever.
I will not be updating iTunes again until I see an official Apple iTunes fix for this issue.

  • CPU 100% When Playing Minecraft iMac

    Hi There!
As the title says, "CPU 100% When Playing Minecraft". Every time I boot up Minecraft the Fan becomes loud. I have another iMac (Late 2013) Model and it runs Minecraft fine with all the same settings. So I don't really no what to do. But if you could help me try to get the CPU usage down or maybe turn the fan down? Or something like that that would be great!!
    My iMac Specs.
    Mac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014)
Processor: 4 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory: 32 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Graphics: AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4096 MB
So Yeah, if you could give me a hand, I would be so much appreciated!
    Thanks!

Firefox 3.6.6 Windows XP - often goes to 80-100% CPU even with only one tab open (in this case the one I'm writing this message on). When this happens the only cure is to kill it with task manager and start again.

  • Parental Controls CPU 100%

Under Activity Monitor Parentalcontrols is running at between 30-97% CPU- whatever will bring the total to 100%. this has been ongoing for several days now and the computer will not fully go to sleep- screen goes dark, but no flashing light, but I can force it to sleep. When I try to change parental controls settings locally- System preferences crashes and has to be force quit, but I can change settings from a different networked computer. Any ideas?

I have been testing different scenarios and have been able to keep this from occurring under 10.5.2. Let me start by saying that I have had these issues happen on my Mac Mini.
Everytime I have enabled "Use Simple Finder" AND "Only allow selected applications" TOGETHER has resulted in the parentalcontrols process to run away. Everytime I have disabled these two settings and kept all the other Parental Control settings as I had it before, the parentalcontrols process has NOT consumed all the CPU cycles.
Give this a try and see if this helps. What helps is to have the Activity monitor open while doing this. Disable all Parental Controls first, Force Quite the parentalconcrols process, then re-enable the Parental Control on the accounts you need, keeping away from setting both "Use Simple Finder" and "Only allow selected applications" together.
Also I read somewhere that disabling fast user switching would help. I have kept my fast user switching turned ON.
    Hope this helps.

  • The iMac CPU fan going ape **** after upgrade

Just installed Mountain Lion - result: CPU fan is at 3000 RPM constantly. CPU temperature 50 celcuis, GPU around 70. Nothing serious is running - just Safari iTunes and Mail.
    Any suggesions?

If you're running ESET Cybersecurity you may need to upgrade.  Older versions have been causing a crash in the Launch files which means reportcrash constantly triggers (drains battery and kicks in the fans).
    Here's the fix...
First, check you've got a problem with crashreport (run Activity Monitor and select 'All processes').  If crashreport is at the top of the list with 100+ % CPU time and you have ESET then it's possibly this issue.
Go to Eset website and download the latest version of Cybersecurity and run the dmg file once downloaded.  Click the 'uninstall' button to remove and you should (hopefully, as I did) see the crashreport stop.  You can then reinstall ESET (I have done with the newer version with no problem).
I'm not sure if a straight install over the top (upgrade) will work - easy to uninstall and reinstall in a few mins anyway.
I hope this helps a lot of people out!

  • Analyzing the "idle CPU whine" issue

    Hi All,
I have been waiting for a solution for the "idle CPU whine" issue since I returned my MacBook Pro because of the whine.
First of all, we need to filter out all the posts where a person says that he does not have the whine but has not heard a whining unit. So, we need to focus only on experiences of people who hear the whine or do not hear whine but have heard the whine in another unit.
Secondly, I think that the build week number has no significance on the whine issue. More interesting would be to have people sending here the last part of their serial number, which supposedly is some kind of configuration code, and stating if they have the idle CPU whine or not. Maybe we could get some new information out of that.
Do also state, if you have actually compared a whining and a non-whining unit. If you have not compared the no-whine opinions are useless as they are merely opinions without a reference to a faulty unit.

This was posted on MacFitIt today (www.macfixit.com)
" Mike, I thought you might find this reply from Apple regarding my contacting them with a noise issue with the MacBook Pro. I noticed that if I were to disable a processor core the noise immediately stopped and this is Apple's reply.

    Begin forwarded message:
"Hi Eric, I heard back from engineering and was informed that this normal behavior for the MacBook Pro. When the processors are idle a capacitor on the logic board will take on additional power loads causing the capacitor to vibrate, thus creating the noise. • 3000 Concentrator CPU 100%

I have a 3000 Concentrator that I noticed the CPU is pegged at 100% how can I find out what is causing this. I went to Monitor -> staticstics and the only thing that I can see is perhaps the NAT translation is causing this what else can I check to see what is causing the 3000 to spike at 100%?
