Reconnect clips to source audio file

I have a FCP project with audio clips cut from a longer one hour clip.
When I send my first audio clip to Soundtrack, filter it, I see that the entire one hour audio clip has been filtered. I send the clip back to FCP and continue editing.
When I get to me next audio clip, which has an in and out point later in the one hour source clip, I am having problems simply connecting that audio clip to the previous one I worked on.
Is the only way to filter the next clip to add filters? It seems a waiste as STP has already applied filters to the entire source clip. All I should need to do is reconnect the media.
Has anyone done this?
Thanks.

If you CTRL - CLICK a clip in the timeline and choose to SEND to a Soundtrack Audio File Project, you are prompted to choose where you want to save the (sent) audio file. Remember this location.
Any changes made to the audio from this clip in STP will affect only the (sent) file (as long as you didn't choose to overwrite the "raw" original).
When you go back to FCP and click on the timeline, the audio of the clip you first selected should appear with the new (sent) filename and your changes will be included in it.
Other clips in your timeline which originate from the same original "raw" audio clip won't be affected because it's only the (sent) file which has changed. The other clips are referencing the "raw" files in your capture folder.
You could marry the (sent) audio to the full video sequence and then chop it into clips, or you could find the relevant portion of the (sent) audio for each other clip and put them together.
What we'd both like to know is whether there's a shortcut way of associating these clips with the (sent) files.

  • How do I identify which source audio file is mapped to which track in a merged clip?

    Hi there,
I'm new to the merge functionality.
I went ahead and merged my video/audio for a short film, all of the clips have on-camera sound, and up to 3 seperate mics.
Now I find myself spending loads of time trying to match *by ear* which channel has the mic I want to use across various takes. The track assignment seem to vary. How does Premiere decide of 3 audio files which ones goes on which track?
Also, is there a way to see which audio track contains which source wav file?
    Cheers

    @drive70 – for this table you'll need a grid of  15 x 11 cells (or at least 13 x 11 cells).
    Best start with 15 columns.
    Distribute them evenly horizontally.
Now do the merge where needed.
E.g. for cell 2 in column 1 of your layout in the screengrab, use 3 grid cells of row 2.
For the next cell use 4 grid cells, etc.pp.
    Here an illustration:
The upper one is the initial GRID, 15 x 11 cells PLUS (and this is very important!) a 12th row, you will NOT touch ever during the merge process, or you'll lose flexibility!
The bottom table is the one I started to merge cells like you want…

  • How do i export small clips from an audio file?

How do I export only a small portion of an audio track to file WITHOUT temporarily deleting any part of the audio file?
I have a big audio file. This audio file is a language lesson with many, many clips of english sentences and their target language translations. I basically want to cut up each little section that I don't already know how to translate, and use these audio clips as audio flash cards. There's 1 problem though, and that's my lack of Garage Band knowledge. I easily do this up to 80 times per audio lesson, so a simplified method would be preferred.... boy, I'm sure missing Logic right about now ;(

To export only a part of a track you have two ways:
The easiest way is the "Cycle Region": set the cycle region to the section of the clip that you want to export. The cycle region will show as a yellow bar at the top of the Timeline. You can drag the ends to adjust it. Silence all other tacks and use "Share > Export song to disk (or share to iTunes)". This will only export that section of he clip.
The other way would be to duplicate the tarck and work on the copy of the original: Either trim the ends of the region by draging or cut out the section you want (⌘T). Silence the original and export the copy.

  • Slideshow, how to make clip the same length as audio file?

    Hi
I've got several PowerPoint presentations and need to make an MP4 video file for each of them. I know how to export the slides as still images, and I also have the audio files broken up into individual mp3 files that match each slide.
I'm trying to figure out the most efficient way of getting the slides and audio files synced in Premiere Elements.
Yesterday I imported all of the png images and mp3 audio files into my project. But I had to individually add each image, followed by the mp3, and then in the timeline manually stretch the image to make it last the same length of time as the audio file. It was rather tedious and I have a lot of presentations with many slides to work with. I'm sure there must be some better way to make all of this happen, right?
Can anyone help me out here?
    1. Is there a way to make the image clip match the time of the audio clip?
    2. Is there a way to import all of the audio and image files at once (given they have the same names) and have PE automatically associate the image clip with the audio file?
    Thanks, Derek

    1. You can place the audio file in the Audio 1 track of the timeline first (Timeline, not sceneline)
    2. Next drop the image to where the audio file starts. Now press "\" key
    3. Drag the end of the clip to exactly where the audio ends. Whe you are near the end of the audio with the drag it should simply stick to it.
    4. Group the audio and image file together (Right click and select group after selecting both these together)
    5. Select the clip and do a right click and use the Fade-In and out option. You can fade in the video and let the audio simply continue. This makes it look and sound good.
    6. Place the next audio file and go on doing the same till all of them are done. The grouping step is not needed but when you keep working with PRE, you might just thank me for it!
I tried all these steps just as I was typing this post, so I can tell you for sure that PrE10 works as if it is designed JUST for this use case. So hoping you get to complete the project on time and with good quality!

  • How can I make an mp audio file of a video clip that I'm working on in iMovie?

I have a video clip residing within an iMovie project.  I want to create an audio file of this to take into Audacity so I can make cleaner audio edits (pulling up audio, deleting extraneous audio, etc) to insert as voice over in my movie project.  iMovie is not sophisticated enough to do this.  I don't see an easy way to "export as MP3" or other audio file.  Am I missing something?  Thank you.

  • Cutting and saving individual video and audio files from a clip

I have to cut 201 individual video and audio files for separate scenes from an 11-minute animated episode and save them as separate MP4 video and MP3 audio files. What is the most efficient way to do this?

Without knowing more about your project, it's hard to even guess at the most efficient workflow.
Like: Do these clips have audio or are you adding it? What format are these clips? What is the intended delivery for the 11 minute movie?
As a general matter, one creates an event, imports clips to it. Then organizes the clips according to the needs of job, using keyword collections and ratings. Then creates a project and starts a rough cut by marking ranges in the event browser and editing to the time line. Some people start with the music, making that the primary storyline mark where they want the edit to be and cut to that.
Upon finishing, one can choose one or more of the "destination" presets. It's possible to export Audio only or Video only or both. MP3 is one of the audio choices. Some of the presets are MP4. If you want possibly better quality and more control, export the files as master files and encode in Compressor.
    Good luck.

  • Recording Audio from additional sources:  Why doesn't the "Audio File" show

Hi, when recording audio from another source and saving: where does logic store the file? Shouldn't it be in the "audio' folder or the set path you set it to>?
For some reason after we record the "Audio File" we recorded is not to be found in the "Audio" folder we created within our project?
    clues?

Can you define "from another source". I'll assume for now, you mean, from an external live source, like a vocal, or guitar.
Yes, if you had saved the song using the "Save As Project" command, the audio path to that songs audio folder should have been set. and all audio files recorded into that song would reside in that location.
The only thing that you might want to check, is hit "A" with the song open, and make sure "choose path" is set to "Song Recording Path" and not "Global Recording Path".

  • Reconnecting Audio Files after Media Manager

Please forgive me if this has been covered before, but I'm not seeing a specific answer to the issue I'm having. I recently decided to do some cleanup on my machine, and used Media Manager to backup a project. When I reopened that project a TON of the files were no longer connected, and I've had to dig through the computer and reconnect them one at a time. The issue I am having now is with the audio files that exist in FCP as STAP files. I can find the stap files, but they are no reconnecting properly. I've tried to just simply re-render the audio, but it just comes out blank. Here is a screen capture of what I'm seeing. http://www.moorecreativedesign.com/FCP_Capture.jpg - Also If I try to right-click and "open in editor" it gives me an Unknown File error.

I think the problem is that the .STAP file are SoundTrackPro project files, which look for the original audio files.
But I guess you removed them or at least removed the disc they are on.
    That's why they render empty.
Media Manager doens't work on SoundtrackPro files (or Motion files for that matter). The proper way to handle these situations is
either export selfcontained movies from Motion, or audiofiles from SoundtrackPro and edit those in your timeline and THEN do the Media Manager,
or backup your Motion Projects and SoundtrackPro projects with all their assets along with the Media Management from FCP.
A nice [feauture request|http://www.apple.com/feedback/finalcutpro.html] would be to have Media Managaer handle all assets from the Final Cut Studio Suite.

  • Does Editing a clip after using the "Open in Timeline" command in the event browser alter the source media file?

Does editing a clip after using the "Open in Timeline" command in the event browser alter the source media file?

. Didn't we have that in 7?  Seems like I remember we could set the number of undo levels.
Legacy FCP has Revert Project to return to the last saved version, and it has Restore Project to go back to one of the autosaved versions. The maximum number of undo's can be set in user preferences. A lot different than X.

    Hi
    In iMovie'11 (version 9.0.x)
    on top menu row - Apple/iMovie/File/Edit/Cut (Can vary dep. on language - in Swedish Apple/iMovie/Arkiv/Redigera/Klipp . . . )
down Cut menu - Slow playback/Raspid Playback/Re-play in Slow Motion and onvards
Here one can select the Pre-Set speeds
Are you familiar with getting 'inspector' to run?
No - but I guess that Double Click on clip/sequense or ctrl-Click on it might open it.

  • Using trial version of adobe audition, beginning of audio file is clipped?

I am testing the trial version of adobe audition. When I save an edited file, the first few bars of audio file is clipped or cut. Is this the limitation of the trail version or am I doing something wrong? THANKS

Do you use Audition? I import/open a QT file, use a bit of noise reduction, and then use "save as" to create a new audio file. Any idea what I might be doing incorrectly?

  • Clipped audio file in Podcast

    Greetings!
I am new to Garage band. I am not a musician, yet I had a lot of success editing 18 songs into a soundtrack recently. I have been taping lectures to make podcasts for myself. I ran into a couple of snags:
    1. I imported an audio file about 2 hours in length (a 1.18GB WAV file) - it was clipped after a little more than an hour. I can open the same file into iTunes and get the full 2 hours.
    2. I tried editing the track (which I had no problem doing with the music). I when I split the track - the latter half seems to disappear in the track window - although I play the audio and it is still there.
I would like to edit the stuff out that I don't need and export as a podcast - only because it seemed the best way to go - I can add chapter markers and such. All help is greatly appreciated!
    Scott

just FYI "clipped" means something completely different in audio, but this may help:
