Reconnect Media - Unable to Reconnect All Files in Relative Path

I have a project that I have restored from a DLT backup. The project file and the all the media are now on a SAN which I access from my G5. Since this project originated on a different editor's computer all of the clips in my project are ostensibly offline within my project. All of the media files are located in a single capture scratch folder on the SAN with the same filenames and reel numbers. As such, I figured that when I used "Reconnect Media" with "Reconnect All Files in Relative Path" checked, all of the files would automatically relink. However, everytime I attempt to do this, the only file that is reconnected is the original file which I manually selected to establish the file path to the rest of my media. If I use the "Search" functionality and instruct FCP to search the capture scratch folder one file at a time, without fail, it will automatically find the media and reconnect it. Yet, I cannot seem to batch reonnect, as it were.
My question is this: If all of the media files are located in the same capture scratch folder (i.e. same relative path), why won't FCP automatically reconnect all the files in that folder to the corresponding offline clips?
I have attempted to reconnect the media on two different machines. The same issue arose on both machines. This leads me to believe that the problem may be a result of some issue with the filesystem on the SAN. Also, I have run FCP rescue and attempted a reconnect with both a clean backup and entirely new preference files, to no avail.

Hi Nat,
I don't have a direct solution, and you might you've been doing this already. Although you didn't describe this. I think that what I would try to do is:
- Copy the project (backup).
- Open the project, and when it tells you that 132 clips and 714 render-files are offline, I'd select the checkboxes in order to 'Forget' the files.
- Hit OK.
- FCP 'forgot' all the links to the original files. So you forced errors from that perspective by doing this.
- Try to reconnect again.
Just a thought...
All the best
Rienk
PS What version FCP are you running?

  • Aperture 2.1.2 can't reconnect all files, please help!

I accidentally duplicated all of my master so in all folders I have image001.cr2 and image001 (1).cr2.
The library is now referenced at the duplicate files, those ending with (1).cr2.
I then deleted all duplicate and consequently all the images in aperture show that little yellow triangle indicating that images are missing.
So I go to File->manage referenced files but even if I hit the button "reconnect all" it just reconnect one image at a time.
I don't really know how to fix this, tried many time a google search with no success!
Any help on this weird issue would be greatly appreciated!

  • Finder software is locked unable to open all files folder

I am able to open finder and view every file except the all files folder.  Also when I open the mail program or safari the menu is not listed at the top of the screen so that I can access it.  I had to force shut down the finder program and then the other programs would open and work normally.  The finder program does give one error message saying that it can't find that file.  but all the files are there I just can't open that one window.  Thanks, Sheila

  • Add all files in the path while creating folio file in Folio builder

    Hello everyone.
I am using InDesign CS 5 and creating folio for iPad 2. My Folio builder was working fine till last week, but suddenly i see a change the way it behaves. When I update the files in Folio builder, it adds all the files in the path (not just the links in the file) including source PSD files and other related files which I have never used in the InDesign, making the folio file increase in size. Can someone please help me how to overcome this situation?
    Thank a lot in advance.
I look forward for your solution.

Do you have an HTML file in there? If so, put it it (and its assets) in its own folder.

  • Links to PDF files with relative paths from a Captivate 4 project

I'm creating a presentation in Captivate 4 (I'm making an exe file) with some links to PDF files; the links are buttons with the 'open URL or file' set. The presentation will be distributed in CDs and obviously the links will not work for they point to an absolute path in my PC. Is there another way to display external files? thanks

"file:\file folder\filename" is not a relative path.  It's still an absolute path because you're specifying the path all the way from the root drive, whether you used a drive letter or not.
A relative path shows where to find the other file in relation to the file that is calling it.
    Relative paths look like this:
myDoc.doc (if the file is in the same directory as the file calling it)
folderName/myDoc.doc (if the file is inside a folder in the same directory as the file calling it)
../myDoc.doc (if the file is located in the parent directory above the file that is calling it)
../../myDoc.doc (if the file is located two levels above the file that is calling it)
    etc
Here's a tutorial that explains it better: http://www.communitymx.com/content/article.cfm?cid=230ad

  • Link to files via relative path?

It seems that Captivate is only capable of linking to
external files via absolute links. In other words, when I create a
click box that opens a file and select a file located on my
development machine, the project will still look for that file on
my local hard drive, even after it is posted on the Web. This is
extremely frustrating, and I have not found a workaround.
Please help me identify a way to link using a relative path.
In other words, the project will resolve it's current location and
look for content in the directory it is located in or in specified
directories under that location. That is is the only way you can
create a project that will run correctly when posted. Captivate
already does this when you create a click box that opens another
project, so there MUST be a way to do this when opening non-project
    files!
    Please Help!
    Thanks,
    Dan Roberts

    Hi Dan,
Are you publishing the file as a standalone executable? If
so, others have experienced problems and have reported this as a
bug... a link to a recent post.
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=464&threadid=1247575
I have had no problems using standard conventions for
relative links in published swfs. For instance - assume I have a
course with lessons separated in 8 different folders. I have
resources in a common folder that is in the same folder as all of
the lessons. To get one of my swfs to link to a resource in the
common folder, I would set the URL to something like
    "../common/managing_workflows_job_aid.pdf" - this causes the
browser to look up one folder level, then to common, then to the
    specified file.
    Does that answer your question?

  • Media Manager not collecting all files to new destination - Why?

    Specs: 10.5.8 / Final Cut Pro 6.06 / Dual Quad Tower -
So here's the conundrum. We've got a lot of video projects to backup (about 80) and move to another drive.
When we go to media manager and ask it to copy files over to a new destination, it grabs MOST of the files associated with the project. But without fail, it will not grab and copy all of the files that were sent to Soundtrack Pro. Any STAP file on Final Cut Pro's timeline gets left behind.
    Why is this?
Here's a screen cap of our settings...
    http://www.kchtenthusiasts.com/webpics/mediamanager.jpg
Any and all suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

Media Manager won't solve this for you; it's a game. You will need to manually locate and move tons of stuff like photographs, music tracks, movies from After Effects or Motion' almost anything FCP did not actually create.
You must carefully test each of your MM files. Very carefully.
Instead of relying on MM, ere's another possibility: Just clone your scratch/render/output drives and then remove stuff not associated with the projects. Then copy the FCP project files to the drives. This sometimes works for us because many of our projects use the same footage, over and over again. If we were using MM, we'd be copying the same stuff many times. If we just clone the drives the copies of the FCP projects easily relink to the footage in whatever source folder it might live.

  • Could somebody please tell me whether anyone has found a solution as to how to install QUICTIME that works on a WINDOWS 7 64bit OS? I have a videocamera that records in .MOV format and am unable to load all files on to my editing program. Tony

This is my first experience with this kind of problem.
I have installed/uninstalled QUICKTIME 7 a number of times with the same result. "Error 46 - ActiveX not installed".

ActiveX controls only work with IE and not with other browsers like Firefox. If there isn't another way like Java to control that camera then your only choice is to use IE.

  • How do you convert absolute paths to external files to relative paths?

I have a TOC PDF document that contains approximately 200 links to other external PDF files. The other files are located in the same directory as the linking PDF. However, when the links were done, I accidentally created the links in a copy of the PDF on the file server, *not* the one in the same directory as the target PDFs.
So now the links in the TOC PDF all have an absolute network path embedded in the link such as "/D/projects/assets/PDF/targetFile.pdf", whereas they should only be "/targetFile.pdf". Is there a way to easily change these? I don't relish the notion of having to walk through the document and manually fixing each one.
I tried forceably editing the PDF file in a binary editor, but this caused the document structure and fonts to get out of whack -- though the links worked.
Any recommendations? I will consider a commercial product if one exists!
    Thanks,
    Rob

I think you are barking up the wrong tree...
Let's say you have a 10 second clip of PAL material:
    10 seconds x 25 fps = 250 frames
    If properly converted to NTSC:
    10 seconds x 30 fps = 300 frames
The only difference is the number of frames, NOT THE LENGTH OF THE CLIP! It is still 10 seconds long.
    10 seconds of audio x 44.1 kHz = 441 thousand samples
    or
    10 seconds of audio x 48 kHz = 480 thousand samples
    or
10 seconds of audio at 22.05 kHz = 220.5 thousand samples
The only difference is the number of samples. NOT THE LENGTH OF THE AUDIO. It is still 10 seconds long.
If you have drift, then there is something wrong in your conversion. You can't take a 25 fps clip, tell it to play at 30 fps and expect it to be the same length. There are multi-thousand $$$ transcoders that do that job.

  • Jar file and relative path ?

    Hi
1)When a jar file is run how can I access a file that is in the same directory that the jar is in ?
(I need access to another file that is not in the jar.)
    2) If you read an ini file from the jar with getResource etc can you write back to that ini with new values ?
    Thanks for your help.
    Tim

    1) Use getResource to locate the jar url that contains the class. You will now have to extract the local filesystem path from the jar url.
    2) No

  • Can't open files using relative paths

That seems straightforward but i can't figure out how I can have access to
image files stored in the same directory with the compiled classes.
Here's my what I want to do
    windowsButton = new JButton("Windows", new ImageIcon("icon_cool.gif"));
    but it doesn't work :(
however if i specify the absolute path to images everything works fine.
I tried also copying images into the source directory it didn't work.
I thought about a workaround like If i could get the absolute path of the
class that loads images that would be great but i have no clue how to get
    that absolute path.
i code in netbeans so src and classes are separated.
Thanks in advance for your replies. If u feel like u need more details i'll
    try to provide them :)

In addition to jverd's answer, here is a tutorial
    dealing with images and icons
    "How to Use Icons":
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/misc/i
    con.html
It gices some examples of how to use the
getResource() method to load your images. As the tutorial points out, simple path is more general than using class loader and resources for it.
If OP's problem is on the line of this simplicity, he has to learn relevant details of a particular IDE or,
if he hates the kind of learning, he'd be better off throwing away and foget it forever.
It reminds me of a long-time belief that IDE is too big an /unnecessary/ obstacle for beginners.
Does anyone know, does Eclipse have similar awkwardness for resource path issue?

  • File Include Relative Pathing Problem

Was developing large jsp app in JRUN, recently switched to Oracle 9i.
    However the includes work differently.
In 9i it seems that if a jsp page includes a jsp file, that in turn includes a jsp file... the path to the second include must be relative to the first jsp page and NOT the calling page.
    This discourages code reuse!
Is it a bug or what?
    null

Yes I have a jsp file and that file has a tag like
    <jsp:include page="/fragments/test.html" flush="true" />
jsp application is deployed on Weblogic App server, but the test.html is in on Web Server(IIS). I know that according to the JSP specs,it looks for the test.html with respect to the application context and since test.html could not be found, throws servlet exception. But if I try to use this application with Websphere,it works because WAS will try to look for the test.html with respect to the server context.
Is there a way Weblogic could work the way as WAS?
    Thanks

  • Reconnect Media - Will only do one file at a time. (all files is checked)

I found one Google search that said this may be a bug... http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/8/1047891 and it's really bothering me since I have about 500 more media files to connect.
When I select multiple files in my Project File Browser, right click, hit Reconnect Media... It opens the Reconnect Files window. Then I hit "Locate", navigate to the folder holding the files (Reconnect All files in Relative Path is checked), select the file, confirm, then hit connect... Only one file (the first one selected) reconnects.
It's worse than that for me, now the file is Connected in my Project File browser, but it still doesn't reconnect in my sequences. So now I have to go in the sequence and right click on the individual clips, and manually reconnect those as well.
At this point it take 6 plus clicks per file missing, times two because I have to reconnect these clips in the sequences as well... times 500 because that's how many offline files I have.
My lord, I've already done this to half of the project, I can't do it any more... where am I going wrong or is this a bug? If so, please tell me there is a workaround.
The file I'm working in is a feature film, so it's huge... I can't start over at this point.
    Thanks for your time!
    -Monty

The only multiple files it will reconnect are the ones that are already connected.
I hope I figured it out but need more advice. It may be that the files that won't connect do not have a visible file extension ".mov". How can I get these files to shoe ".mov" at the end of their names without manually renaming them all?
And the reason this is happening is I was using reference files to edit a movie, now I've been given new hard drives with the final uncompressed footage but same file names for each clip... plus the new hard drives I'm using have different names.
    Thanks for your time!
    -Monty
