Reconnect MULTIPLE Folders to Offline Media?

In Lightroom 2.4 there is a "Find Missing Folders" command, but I've been able to use this only one folder at a time.  It doesn't seem possible to reconnect a LR catalog to numerous relocated folders in a single operation.  This becomes very tedious when I have burned a large volume of images to CD or DVD in order to clear them from the hard drive (where they were originally imported from cameras into folders labeled by date).  Similarly, the "Find Nearby Missing Photos" option in Locate says it only searches for others within the same folder, although I haven't tried it yet.)  Am I missing a trick, or is this an important obstacle to managing offline assets in LR? -- JCarkW

>>Also, note there's an option "Update Folder Location" which may be useful for some of the things you are doing.<<
John -- "Update Folder Location" does seem to help a lot!  Using it I'm no longer required to delete the original tree of image files from the HD before I can re-direct the LR catalog to the copy on CD/DVD.  One remaining question though:
If I burn to optical (or if you copy to an offline HD) only SOME of the folders from a parent directory, leaving the others in place on the internal HD, is there any convenient way (short of individually, folder by folder) to update the links in the LR catalog for all of those that have been moved, while leaving the links for those that remain behind on HD intact?  (I would want to do this, for example, if there weren't room on a single CD to burn the entire folder tree.)  I'm assuming that Update Folder Location" is not smart enough to do this trick...  Thanks again! -- JClarkW

  • Reconnecting offline media issues after moving files

Hi I am having a bit of a headache with offline media files in final cut. Our data requirements have recently outgrown the internal drives on our mac pro so we have switched to keeping all of our footage/projects etc on an external network raid (freenas). After moving all the footage over to the new drive final cut understandably asks to reconnect media so I point it in the direction of the new location and click search.... It searches through but finds nothing so I hit locate and manually point it to one of the offline files. It finds maybe 2or3 (out of over 2500) of the files then asks to locate more and so on. I spent an afternoon reconnecting all the offline media and all was fine until today when half the files showed as offline as final cut decided to start looking for them in their old location and not the new location I specified previously so I had to spend hours reconnecting them manually a few at a time again.
I'm worried that I would needto make a quick change to the edit and when I open a project final cut has a tantrum and says stuff is offline then won't let me quickly reconnect everything at once, instead making me do it one or two clips at a time
Does anyone know why it's doing this and what I need to do to make it stop???
    Many thanks in advance!

I hate to say 'you built this house' but you might have.  Although FCP's media manager has been crap since it came into being in v2... it still is the best way to move media around.  BUT - THAT said, if you at least kept the CAPTURE SCRATCH folders intact it shouldn't have been that much of a problem to get stuff loaded back in.
I'd say... keep plugging away, bit by bit.
    Good luck,

What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
If you opened a previously saved closed project and were greeted by a colorful media offline display and "Where is the file.....?" messages, there are at least two possibilities.
    1. You have move, deleted, or renamed files and folders that you imported into the project after you saved closed the project.
When you import media into the the project, all you get in the project are copies of the originals which are at a hard drive save location. However, the project needs to
trace back to those originals at the location where they were when you first imported them into the project. You can use the "Where is the file....?" messages to reconnect
your source media to the project. Can be time consuming and a nuisance.
    2. If you stored the project's source media on an external hard drive and that drive changed drive letter for some reason, this would create a media disconnect situation.
Correct the drive situation if this applies to you.
Please review and consider and supply more details. We can discuss this and other related matters (such as use of the Project Archiver) depending on your details.
    Thank you.

  • Can I export multiple folders at the same time, keeping the album structure

I'm exporting all of my photos from 2010 so far. Is there a way to export multiple folders at the same time, while keeping the existing album structure? It seems that when I try it, iPhoto exports them all to the same folder.
I really don't want to do this one album at a time, and here's why -
I'd like to select all of the albums, then export, using the plugin, to WalMart so that I can order prints.

    Check out [iPhotoToDisk|http://www.iphototodisk.com/index.html]
I'd like to select all of the albums, then export, using the plugin, to WalMart so that I can order prints.
Why not upload to Walmart from iPhoto? Check out the first option here:
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
*For Users of 10.5 and later*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
*For users of 10.4 and later* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Easiest Ways To Update Offline Media?

We normally use PXE boot and deploy images across the network even though is seems slower since many computers are on a 100Mb connection due to sharing their network port with a 100Mb VOIP phone. We do this for convenience mostly because of the big hassle
of updating multiple flash drives whenever the image or task sequence is updated.
We could use multicast if we were doing many simultaneous deployments of the same image, but the majority of the time, we are reimaging one-off machines one or two at a time.
However, I just saw some hardware and software that seems like it could make using offline media more manageable if they were used together.
Instead of copying the Content folder manually one stick at at a time to USB flash media, is there any reason you cannot just mass clone multiple copies of the LiteTouchMedia.iso file to multiple bootable usb drives using ImageUSB http://www.osforensics.com/tools/write-usb-images.html and
    a USB hub like this?
This software copies the ISO as if burning a DVD.  It does not copy the Contents folder files the way you would manually create USB media for MDT.
If this works, then updating as many USB sticks as we can get on a hub wouldn't be much more difficult than just updating one USB stick.

We got them back at the same time by telling all of the remote technicians to send (FedEx) their flash drives to the corporate office. There was a period of time, maybe a week, where the remote technicians didn't have flash drives. That worked for us but
that's obviously not a technical item - it's a process item. Once all the flash drives were updated, which took about a day, we shipped the flash drives back out to the techs.
Mind you, we also had PXE booting for OSD through SCCM at all of our remote locations. So we approached the OSD question through a few different angles. (Flash drives, PXE + OSD, and also a "break-fix" location that machines could be shipped to.)

  • Import 800K photos (many duplicates) into Aperture from multiple folders in one hard drive.

I have a hard drive with 800,000+ photos in it, many are duplicates after I have made multiple back-ups to different drives over the years and then transferred all the photos to this new drive. The photos are located in different folders but are all in the same hard-drive. How do a import the photos in the easiest/fastest way? How will they get sorted, by date? Is there anyway that I could delete the duplicates without losing photos? I have many photos with the same file name (but from different cameras), tumbnails, edited photos etc.
    Very thankful for your assistance!

    Hi,
You can import photos from multiple folders.
Just click File >> Get Photos and Videos >> From Files and Folders
Now select the folders you want to import photos from (they should be at same level in the directory, say all folders in My Pictures) using Ctrl+Click, tick the checkbox for 'Get Photos from subfolders' if not already checked and then click 'Get Media'.
    Hope that will help
    Thanks

  • Offline Media isn't reconnectinghe

My clips show the "Offline Media" red stripe but the video still shows in the viewer. When I do the "reconnect media" process, I can find the clip or photos just fine but when I reconnect them the Red Stripe doesn't go away but the footage is still there. I have never had this happen before. I was able to reimport one clip and just remove the other one. That was fine for that clip as it was a totally edited clip but the ones that are all cut up on the timeline, I don't want to re-edit them.
    I hope this makes sense.
    Thanks for any help
    Brad

Once you have reconnected the clips try trashing your thumbnail cache folder.

  • Locating Path for Offline Media

I have some offline clips in my project and the media is spread accross multiple hard drives. Is there anyway to find the path (in the directory) to locate the offline media? I know Premiere has the data because if the correct drive is plugged in the media connects automatically.
I would just like to see the path so I dont have to 'trial and error' plug in every drive I have till the media goes online. I often rearrange and delete things which makes media go offline, so if I could see the path I would know what it is that premiere is looking for and could relink it to the new location.  In Final Cut you would just right clip on the clip, select "recconect Media" and it would then tell you where FCP is looking for the offline clip (ie: Macantosh HD/Users/Benjie/Desktop/Partnerships Footage Day 01). Having this path infomation saves hours of searching, does anyone have the solution?
I am using CS6 on Moutain Lion
    Thanks

This is only possible with the newest Premiere Pro CC.  For earlier versions, you're pretty much stuck guessing.

  • Locating offline media very slow

When I have offline media in Premiere CC, I open the Link Media dialog, then hit Locate, then I wait for the files to show up.  I am waiting upwards of 1 minute, sometimes even 2 minutes for the directory hierarchy to show up.  Once it shows up, I can very quickly link the file.  Why is this so slow?
I have only two volumes mounted: an SSD and a 4-disk soft RAID 0.  No network volumes and no external drives.  Ever since upgrading to Mavericks, I have noticed similar slowness in all apps that use the OS open/save file dialog, but I can't figure out why that is.  Perhaps it's related.

Thanks.  I have 16GB Ram, 64bit Win7,  Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3970X @ 3.50GHz 3.50GHz.  AE is set to have maximum disk cache of 46GB. RAM reserved for other applications: 5GB RAM available for AE, PR, Pl, (some triangular icon [edit] which is ME ), Ps: 10GB. nothing else checked on that screen.
Typically just a mail client, 1 or 2 sessions of Firefox, 1 or 2 network folders open when i launch AE.
The last couple of times specifically, i had a 450 frame animation sequence at native 720p.  then i added a curves layer on top of it in AE, then added two ~600x300px  logos, one in each lower corner, then added a new solid layer which i used as a vignette. Finally over that i added a 720p still image which i held for another 15 seconds beyond the animation.
For the above, i ended-task, rebooted, brought it up again and it lauched ME quickly, then i got the stripped bar and connecting message until i ended task on that, then the 3rd time was the charm - everything opened quickly and it began to encode quickly.
The next three uses late afternoon yesterday were 150 frame animations at 480x270 and they all seemed to work fine.  I created the sequence in 3ds max, then closed and went into AE.  Then I'd close AE render another sequence, back into AE etc...

  • Can HP Softpaqs be installed during deployment using offline media?

I have some systems that use HP Softpaqs to install drivers/applications that need an installer to run and there is no apparent silent command that works on the softpaqs directly.  I tried /s /silent /quiet etc. and they all still pop up a wizard.
So, we will need to use the HP SDM SSM to quietly install these application based drivers, but the process seems to run based on connecting to a UNC path.  However, we will be using offline USB deployments for these systems with no network.
Is there any way to get this done other than manually installing these Softpaqs or making a model specific image that contains all the drivers already installed?

In the majority of cases I find the softpaq exes are just self extracting to the swsetup folder.  YOu can sometimes get away with adding the app in as an application and using a VBWrapper.
If they contain drivers only, add them in to deploy as normal, if they contain applications I'd control it through the task sequence.
Crack open your task sequence and under the custom tasks folder create a folder for which ever model you're imaging.  Place a condition on the folder, such as a WMI query on the model so the tasks inside the folder will only run if the condition is
met, then place your Softpaqs in as applications with a silent install command.  I blogged about this, it may help you.  See what you think:
    http://www.deploymentshare.com/post/singular-task-sequence-multiple-jobs
If you create a "softpaqs" folder within applications and add them in as apps, you will be able to select that folder to be included in your offline media when you regenerate it so it wont look to any UNC path at all.

The problem is that some of the softpaqs will not install silently if you execute them directly and, if you use ssm to run them, I don't see any way of controlling the installation order.  I don't see what controls the installation order of ssm.
Some will install silently, but there are some really messy "driver" installs that install applications and make registry edits and run batch files that do other things, yet they do not document any silent commands to launch them other than using
    SSM.

It is a hard one.. laptops with small drives are a pain.
What you need is a home media server.
Some people use a PC running itunes for cost.. but that is nothing like as good as using a Mac mini.. they make great little HTPC device.. you can plug in large hard disks and store all your files and media. And share it with the network.. Read up apple's instructions on home sharing.
    https://www.apple.com/au/support/homesharing/
For cost you can buy a mini from 2011 or 2012.. I would not recommend earlier ones.. the advantage of 2012 is they have USB3 ports. But you will pay more for them.. new mini is not as useful.. they have soldered in memory and you cannot upgrade.. the old mini was the most easily modified mac in the whole range. Uses little power and can be bought for a $300US for a good one second hand.. maybe less.

  • Shortcut to close multiple folders in List View

In the Finder, in list view, I have multiple folders open (using the triangle by the Folder name). I'd like to be able to close all the open folders at once. I know that holding Option while clicking the red Close button on a window will close multiple windows and I want to do something similar with the folders.
I'm sure I knew how to do this once but can't remember now.
    Thanks,
    Steve

Command-click or otherwise select all of them, and then push the left arrow key.
