"reconnect" old events to the Event Library

I imported a bunch of DV tapes last spring(onto HDD "iMovie VIdeos 1") and everything worked great, but I hadn't used iMovie since then, until this week. I'm now importing old VHS tapes(onto HDD "iMovie VIdeos 2"). This importing is also going well. Something I noticed, however, is that the movies I imported in the spring are not in the Event Library anymore, even though they are on a drive in my Mac Pro. They've even got all their thumbnail and cache data with them.
See my screenshots below.
How can I get iMovie to recognize these files again?
The three options:
*Import from Camera*: not applicable
*Import from iMovie HD Project*: Never used iMovie HD, the folders/files aren't recognized anyway
*Import Movies*: This one I'm leery to try, sounds like it would just import the dv files and not treat them as the event's I had them sorted as originally, which would be a big pain. Also it seems like the two options are to copy the files (undesirable since there's about 300GB) or move (same issue with size)
Is there another way?
I have a feeling the reason they were "lost" by iMovie is that I did a re-install of the OS sometime in-between then and now and didn't restore whatever support files contained that event information.

Pardon me if this sounds like a silly question, but do you still have your "iMovie Videos 1" disc connected while you're using your "iMovie Videos 2" disc?
If it's not connected and available to iMovie, then iMovie won't be able to find or display the video clips.
You say "..they are on a drive in my Mac Pro.." ..so is that a permanently-connected internal hard drive, with "iMovie Videos 2" being a removable external (by the looks of it) ? And, if it is a permanently-installed internal drive, could it be "asleep"..?
What happens if you try waking it - by checking its contents in a Finder window - before starting iMovie? Anything different? (..Though, on second thoughts, you seem to have woken it, as you've posted a screenshot of its contents. Hmm ..I'll think some more about this..)
P.S: Just for interest's sake you might want to run through this Apple KnowledgeBase article which explains how Events and Projects are connected: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1026

  • How to modify a template and use both old/new in the same library without interference

OK first Thank you for reading this and hopefully being able to help me out. I got dumped this project on my desk to update two different templates already published in
share point(2010) years ago. The original developer left the company 4 years ago. Since then anyone that tried to do anything with them made a big mess. I have done some heavy reading and am stuck on few issues.
Please note the templates were created IP 2007 and I will be using IP 2007 to modify them. The temples have a small amount of C# that does not have to be changed. There is also a digital signature linked to them.
After some heavy reading this week. I figured that I need to edit the template from Share point(2010)/IP(2007) and not copy the templates to a different location laptop/desktop
because that will ruin the digital signature. There is also a large volume of submitted forms from these temples. The new version of the temples will be heavily modified deleting rolls columns changing names. My understanding is that since I want to keep the
old submitted forms the way they are and still use the old template to open them. I would need a second version of the original template with all the visual modification to still use the original template's C# digital signatures and any other file that runs
    in the background.
    The plan:
1)Turn off the automatic update to forms/template when a new version of the template is created.
    2) Copy the existing template (.xsn) file to a new document folder in share point(same network).
    3) Change the name of the .XSN file that I copied and modify it??????????? Will keeping the same name interfere with the old template/C# digital signature ect? I would like to change to something like SameName_version_2015 for example. or will changing the
name cut the link to the old C# digital signature? or will it get modify the background files and break the old template/submitted files.
    4) Publish the new template in share point.
    5) Change the data connection to a new directory that I wish to submit all files.
Please advice am I missing anything? and help me understand my step 3 better. Also I would love to get a better understanding of how i can backup and recover everything. Do I simple copy unmodified .XSN files somewhere and publish them if things goes wrong?
Do I need to backup anything else?
I am open to options if I can create a test folder in the share point for safety.
Once again THANK YOU for trying to help.

    Hi, thanks for the reply!
Just to follow up for what we did to disable the delete function for maintaining table records. We hided the Delete button by adding a "MODULE disable_delete" code in Screen Painter. So now only adding records to the table is allowed.
    Thanks,
    Jenny

  • How do I share the Photo Library on my desktop with another User. I have Apoerture set up on my wife's user account but cannot figure out how to access the photo library from her desktop.

I just got a new IMac. I transferred all the photos from our old PC to the Aperture Library on my User account. My wife is set up as another User. She can access Aperture from her User account but there are no photos in the Library. How can I share or giver her access to the photos so that she can work with them on Aperture from her User account?

Move the Aperture library to separate disk or disk partition with plenty of space for all your photos. On a separate disk or partition it will be possible to set the "Ignore ownership on this volume" flag. Then two users can write to the same Aperture library without permission problems.
The procedure is describe here for iPhoto libraries, but this will work for Aperture libraries as well:
iPhoto: Sharing libraries among multiple users
If you want to use a drive for your Aperture library, that has been used with a PC, format it for Mac, before you move the Aperture library there. This can be done with Disk Utility.

  • I had old 8mm converted to dvd then used "Rip It" then imported to iMovie. My problem: in the event library a complete person is shown, in the project the top of their head is missing. How can I fix?

I had old 8mm movies converted to dvd. I then used "rip it" and imported to imovie. In the event library a complete person is shown on a clip. However, when I move that clip to the project the tops of peoples heads are missing in the playback. I have used standard (4:3) because the cut is lower in widescreen. How do I fix this problem?

Yes, the Old Master file has a folder for each year where I find all photos from that specific year. I am attaching a screen shot of the file.
In the meantime i have managed to download all photos (it did not download any video files though in mpg, avi, 3gp, m4v,mp4 and mov format) to a new iphoto library. Unfortunately the photos are quite mixed and often doubled up. I ma considering to purchase iphoto library which checks all duplicates in iphoto. this will save me a lot of time. What do you think?

  • I have imported my I photo library into Aperture.  all the old i photo events are now in the aperture library showing number of photos but when clicked none display.  I can see the photos if i run the cursor over the project.  Help please.

I imported my i photo library into aperture.
I can see the i photo events in aperture library as events with the number of photos in each event.
When you click events in the aperture library no photos appear although if you roll the cursor over the event icon it show the photos.  If you click on the event either on the event icon or in the library no photos appear.
    Help

Check, if you have any filters set. The search fields in the Insector panel and the browser should be showing "All items" or "Showing All".
The Browser search field could be set for each project and album individually, so you have to check it for each project.
    Regards
    Léonie
For example: The projects count shows "20 items", but the browser is empty, because the project's filter is set to show only rejected items.

  • Suddenly my event library in iMovie 11 is empty.  I have tried deleting the plist, importing clips from multiple locations (to see if they show up in the library), re-installing iMovie, and re-installing Mountain Lion. Help??

Suddenly my event library in iMovie 11 is empty.  I have tried deleting the plist, importing clips from multiple locations (to see if they show up in the library), re-installing iMovie, and re-installing Mountain Lion.
I was working on a project, when all of a sudden the event library went blank.  There are no devices showing in the left column, only "last import" and "aperture videos".  There are no video clips in the editing window.  I have "Show: All Clips" selected.  I've tried "group events by disk".
When I have a Project open, it plays just fine.  There are no yellow triangles saying "source clip is missing".  Yet, again...nothing is in the event library large editing window.  So, it seems the data is still there, but invisible.  This is true with all the projects, and all the external devices I've experimented by plugging in to see if their video clips show up in the event library.
I have tried to import new movies, and iMovie responds as normal...looking like it's importing, then "generating thumbnails", then it makes the "ding" signalling that the import is complete...but nothing shows in the event library.  I've tried importing movies from the harddrive, from quicktime, and from an external drive.
I have searched the forums, and found many users with a similar, but not the same, problem.  For them, it seems the "go to users-library-preferences and delete iMovie plist" has solved their problem.  This didn't work for me.
I uninstalled/reinstalled iMovie, I even have re-installed Mountain Lion (from a last-ditch effort suggestion from Apple technician).
HERE'S AN INTERESTING DETAIL:  After almost 5 hours on the phone with Apple, I decided to cut my losses and take my project to another Mac I have.  I'm working on a project, for work, that is critical that it's completed by tonight (whoops), and all my video is on an external drive.  So, I plug in the external drive to Mac #2, open iMovie, and everything is looking fine.  I continue importing some files I was converting, through Wondershare, and suddenly (whether or not this has to do with the importing, I'm not sure), the SAME THING happened to Mac #2!!!!  I can't believe this.
Does anyone have any suggestions?  Have you ever heard of this happening?  Could it have to do with the files I'm importing???
I apologize if my language is confusing.  Obviously, I'm not an Apple genius-person!  I hope I've provided all the information you need.
    Mac #1 is a 27" desktop, mid-2012, software up-to-date.  Mac #2 is a 24" desktop, about 4 years old, OSX 10.7.5

    I'm adding more information:
in Finder, my iMovie folders are all visible and accessible.  When I click on a clip from iMovie Events folder, Quicktime opens and plays the clip.  ALL my video is not missing - it just isn't showing up in the Event Library!
This happened all of a sudden, while I was working on iMovie project (on both computers).
All my Projects are intact, and play when I open them.

  • How do i import my iMovie event library to FCPX when the iMovie library is NOT in the home folder.

    my situation:
my MBP is running two drives:  a 160gb SSD that has my home folder, OS and all apps, and a 500gb HDD for data and non-essential software.
the HDD used to be my OS and home folder, so I used to run iMovie off it.  but after installing the SSD, i am now running Lion off it, and it is now my new home folder.
so my iMovie events are now marooned on my ex-home folder, on what is now my HDD data drive.
I can import iMovie events no problem, as FCPX prompts for where the project files are.  but FCPX doesn't prompt for the location of the iMovie events library, so how do i get those old iMovie events in?
i suppose i could copy all the events over to my SSD, then do the import, and then delete them.  but that would take up a lot of space, and id rather not be copying and deleting so much data on the SSD.
    is there any other way?

It is definitely to your advantage to use the FCP command to Import your iMovie Events all at once. The reason is you will not double up on space. FCP will create a hard lingk to your events so you can access them in FCP without altering the iMovie Event in any way, but without doubling the space.
So there are several ways you could approach this.
    1) If you are not using iMovie anymore, you could simply move them to the iMovie Event folder at the top level of either your old drive, or any attached drive that is formatted correctly (Mac OS Extended (journaled). This would likely break any iMovie Projects that you currently have, so it is not recommended if you will continue to use iMovie.
    2) If iMovie is still working, you can use iMovie to move the Events to a proper drive. Click VIEW/EVENTS BY DISK in iMovie, and Command-Drag in iMovie to Movie Events to the drive you want while maintaining your project links. This option is probably only available to you if you have set up your old drive as your official Home directory.
    3) As long as you set your "old" drive to be your Home Folder in OSX, you can just leave them where they are. OSX lets you have the Home folder on a different drive than your startup drive. This is not ususally recommended, but it is useful when you have an SSD. When I got my current Mac with an SSD, I moved my home folder to the internal hard drive but OSX and my Apps are on the SSD.
To do this, I followed the advice of longtime poster Pondini, who has a great website that walks you through this.
    Here is a link.

  • The event library and multiple users in the classroom

Is there any way I can stop the event library loading old footage or footage from another project in imovie. Is there any way i can have 3 or 4 movies on the go in separate files.
I have ten macbooks for my class of thrity kids. We have two users on the computer Admin and Student. All students use the student side, every time imovie opens it gets old footage and events from iphoto and by the end of each term there is 8 to 10 gigs of footage on the go at any one time. imovie HD allowed save, file open and movement of movies. imovie 08/09 seems brilliant for snow boarders and you tubers but not the classroom. Really we would love an editing package that allows attachment of camera and work for a couple of weeks on a project while others do the same thing on the same mac. Please don't suggest multiple users we have over 200 macs and 600 students.

Without multiuser, the only of having an exclusive event library for each student would be either external drive, or a blank disk image to store iMovie events. I can imagine a large network drive that has 50GB size disk images for each students. You mount your image to work with your footage.
By the way you can move event library to other drive within iMovie, so you can back up and disconnect external drive to unclutter event library.

  • .bmp files do not show as icons in the event library - I am having to convert them to .jpg  to achieve a display

Although .bmp files are to some extent supported, I find that on importing them they do not show as icons in the event library. I am having to convernt them to .jpg files to produce this result.   Am I doing something wrongly, or is this the experience of others as well?

Yes - I've posted one of the files to Dropbox and it appears perfectly in picture form on my IPad.   So it seems there is nothing wrong with the files.  I'm even more puzzled now!  I'll try to upload a smaller (less than 2mb) file here.  The files I am using in the project, which is a kind of family history using stills,  are a complete mix of types - tif, jpg, Canon raw(cr2), psd and bmp.   Some, including, I suspect, many of the .bmps are scans from old prints, as this one.

  • New Project with old footage stored in event library?

When I start a new movie, the footage from my last project is still saved in the event library for me to use.  I don't want to have to click through every clip to delete it.  How do I start a brand new movie from scratch?  I had quite iMovie, opened it and went straight to File>New Project, etc.  Am I doing something wrong?  Thank you for your help.

I realized the difference between new EVENT and new PROJECT.  With a new project, the old footage remains in the library.  With a new event, you can start with a clean slate.

  • How do you move an Event Library without moving the physical media

I've got a large library of media that needs to be organized, with new keywords.  I have multiple people on different computers attacking portions of the media all stored on a single raid, accessed via gigabit ethernet.  When the libraries are created on each computer, the media is kept in it's original place.  Because the drive is networked, FCP X won't let me place the Event Library on the drive, though I can access the media.  It will also not let me move or duplicate the libraries to the networked drive.  If I connect a drive locally, I can move, copy or duplicate the Event Library, but, here's the problem, instead of copying the alias' to the media, and keeping it like the original event library, it copies the full media into the new library, unnecessarily.
Has anybody found how to copy the Copy, Move or Duplicate the Event Libraries without moving the actual media to the new Library?  I'd like to copy the new libraries to the networked drive where the media is stored and then relink the files.  Then I could merge each computers Library into a master library.
Does that make sense to anybody?  There has to be a way to stop FCP X from unnecessarily copying the media.

Not sure if this is what you're looking for but - Did you uncheck 'Copy files to Final Cut Events Folder' when importing into your project?

  • In Final Cut Pro I was trying to move an Event Library from one hard drive to another as explained in the Help section.  After doing so, I received a message that my event is already open with the same identifier as the new one I just creat

In Final Cut Pro I was trying to move an Event Library from one hard drive to another as explained in the Help section.  After doing so, I received a message that my event is already open with the same identifier as the new one I just created on the new disk.  It says the second document cannot be opened and to move one of these documents out of your Final Cut Events folder.  It also says to avoid this problem, copy events from within Final Cut Pro, but that is what I did in the first place.  What should I do to avoid the double opening conflict?

What exactly are you doing and what version are you using with OS X 10.8?

  • IPhoto '09 version 8.1.2:  If I permanently delete the photos in IPhoto trash, will the same duplicate photos be deleted from the Events library?

For IPhoto '09, version 8.1.2:  If I permanently delete the photos from the IPhoto trash, will any of the duplicate photos in the IPhoto library also be deleted?

    1. There are no duplicates in iPhoto unless you imported two or more copies of the same photo
    2. If you are useing the defaults in iPhoto and delete a photo from an event and empty the iPhoto trash and the system trash all versions of the photo will be gone

  • After transferring clips to Final Cut, they do not show up in the events library. They show up in the timeline of my project, though. how can I see then in the events browser?

After importing clips to Final Cut, they do not show up in the events library. Events from 2014 show up, but not 2015.They show up in the timeline of my project, though. How can I see them in the events browser?

TThose aren't bins. Those are just groupings based on when the content was created or any other selected parameter. Use the action popup in the toolbar tho change the setting.
