Reconnecting a renamed PSD

I've imported a layered PSD as a comp. The linked PSD has been renamed. After Effects says it can't find any layers.
If the PSD was named the same, but moved to a different directory, AE would auto-find all the other missing layers once I succesfully re-linked one layer.
However, if I change the name of the PSD, AE gets all dumb. I reconnect one layer, but it's not smart enough to update the rest of the missing layers. (Even tho the structure of the PSD hasn't changed one bit). I have to relink each and every flippin' layer.
Is there a better way around this — whereby I can rename a PSD without having to relink each layer? (which can be hundreds!)

Just double-click the missing file in the Project panel, and AE will
ask you to locate the missing file. All layers should reconnect
automatically. New PSD layers that weren't imported originally will
not be imported, though, you'll need to to that manually.

  • Renamed PSD files in AE

This seems to be a common problem and I haven't been able to find an answer.   Many times, I am using PSD files given to me from our artist.   I'm using the layers of the PSD file in my AE comps.   During the course of the project, the PSD file needs to be renamed.   I then have to manually relink every layer individually to my AE project.   I know when you move a PSD from one location to another, AE will automatically relink the file once the new location is discovered, but is there ANY easier way to relink all the layers of a PSD file if the PSD file has been renamed?

Not that I know of. That's an inherent limitation - AE simply doesn't check the file unless it's opened nor does the PSD format provide any options for persistent layer identification regardless of the layer structure and names. One of those legacy things... Of course one could create scripts in PS and AE that take care of this by dumping the layer references in one program to a text fiel and then automatically re-assign stuff in the other based on that dump...

  • Batch Rename PSD Layers to File Name Script?

    Hello,
I just recieved several thousand .PSD files for a job containing a single layer (named "Layer 1") on a transparent background. I'm trying to find a way to batch rename the layer in each of these files as the file name, sans the file extension. Is there a script out there that can do this for me? Forgive me, I am not too hip with scripts.
    Windows 7 PC, CS6
    Thank you!

Save the line below into a plain text file and give it the .jsx extension.
    app.activeDocument.activeLayer.name = decodeURI(app.activeDocument.name).match(/(.*)(\.[^\.]+)/)[1];
Then create an action that runs that script. Then run File-Automate-Batch using that action.

  • Lost files then recovered without proper names, reconnect without renaming?

I lost 18,000 files but was able to recover most of them however none of them have their original names so FCP has no idea what's going on. Is there anyway to reconnect through the files attributes such as time, size? anything that could save me reedting this work? Thanks

Any way to reimport or re-capture this footage so that you can get the proper names again? Why don't they have proper names that match?
    You can try this software...

  • How do I stop Elements 11 Organiser assuming JPG when editing using PS CS6

    Hi,
I love the Elements 11 organiser but prefer to edit using PS CS6.
However, everytime I edit using PS CS6, the Elements organiser creates a JPG file.
If I save this as a PSD file, I have to manually trick Elements organiser into reconnecting to the PSD file by deleting the JPG from windows explorer and then manuall reconnecting the JPG to the PSD instead.
This is also the case if I want to just go straight into OnOne Perfect Photo Suite by setting it up as an external editing program.
Is there a way to change Elements organisers behaviour?
    Thanks
    Darren

I don't even need to do this as when you make changes and go to save, PS CS6 asks you to save and selects PSD by default (which I use).
The problem is the cleanup. The watch folder option will pick up the new photo but it does not associate it with the original as a version set so your window ends up getting cluttered. Also, subsequent edits generate a new file (e.g. photo-edited-2.psd) which is not nescessary when using PSDs due to the ability to turn layers on and off etc.
I am investigating Lightroom 4 and its organisational abilities and integration with PS CS6 and other plugins.
    Thanks

  • Action & Droplet "save as" vs "save as web" not working - Possible bug?

Before I state the issue, I am running the latest updates and have tried this in Photoshop CS4 & CS5.
I believe this is a bug in Photoshop, unless someone can get this Action & droplet to work right.
    Here's the issue:
I create an Action with the "Save as Web & Devices" and save the image as a PNG. Then create a Droplet and set the destination as "Folder" with a destination different from the source file, and check Override Action "Save As" Commands and use File Naming with Document Name + _H50 + extension (example: MyFile_H50.gif). The file naming convention I made doesn't carry over to the processed images.
However this droplet will work with the Action when I use the "Save As" command, but not the "save as web & devices" option. Has anyone came across this issue or know how to fix it?
The difference between "save as" and "Save as web" is a 3kb files size plus the "_H50" naming convention is not used.
Here's a detailed process of my action and creation of the droplet:
    CREATION OF ACTION:
1.) I have a .TGA file open with alpha channel layer.
2.) I set the selection to the alpha channel, go back to the layers panel, double click layer, Set backgound to Layer 0, Inverse the selection, delete the background, trim image to transparent pixels, change image size to a fixed height of 50 pixels.
Here's the variable step that works or doesn't work depending if I choose "Save as" or "Save as Web & Devices"
3.) File > "Save as Web & Devices", save image as PNG w/ alpha, and select my "processed images" folder & save, close original  image without saving.
    CREATION OF DROPLET:
1.) Save droplet location, Play action with include subfolders, Suppress file open options dialog, Suppress Color profile warnings.
    2.) Destination: Select a folder
3.) Use File Naming: Document Name + _H50 + extension
    4.) Save log errors.
Next I drag some images onto the droplet, it processes the images into the folder but doesn't use the File Naming convention.
Now, if I use the "save as" command in the action and create the droplet the same way, it works!
The difference between "save as" and "Save as web" is a 3kb files size plus the "_H50" naming convention is not used.
What the heck is going on? Please Help
    -Josh

The following example action and droplet may give you
an idea how to do this with one droplet.
The idea is to make an intermediate folder to save the renamed psds to.
Then use save for web to save the psds as pngs in a different folder.
    1. Make a folder to hold the psd files (temp psd in the example droplet)
    2. Open one of your targa files and record the steps to prepare your file
(loading the channel selection, trim, etc)
    3. Save your file as a psd.
    4. Now save the file using save for web to the folder where you want your
final pngs to be (saved for web in the example action) and don't change
    the file name when saving.
    5. Go to the folder where you saved the png using save for web and delete that file.
(so you don't get an overwrite message when using your droplet)
    6. When creating the droplet, specify the name you want the saved pngs to be and
choose the destination folder where the psds will be saved. (temp psd)
The end result of all this, should save your files, renamed as psds (to a folder)
and save for web should save the renamed psds as pngs, to the place
you saved the file using save for web.
One drawback of all this, you end up with a folder full of psds.
You could just delete the psd files inside the folder after each run.

    Hope this helps.

  • Everytime i eject my ipod and reconnect it all my music is gone. and sometimes while i try adding music to it. itunes completely freezes. please help. and sometimes when i plug it back into my PC i have to rename my ipod and such

Everytime i eject my ipod and reconnect it all my music is gone. and sometimes while i try adding music to it. itunes completely freezes. please help. and sometimes when i plug it back into my PC i have to rename my ipod and such

Antivirus has a tendency to freeze iTunes sync Operation with iPod Classic, causing a timeout, which corrupt your iPod filesystem, so when iTunes can't read the iPod, it is pointing to this problem. Other causes is when your iPod hardisk is dying, or your battery is dying causing hardisk crashes.
    My suggestion.
Connect your iPod to the PC and run chkdsk, to fix any iPod diskerror, then disconnect it, after chkdsk complete.
Disconnect your PC from Internet. (just to make sure no nasties creep into your system while you syncing.
    Stop the Antivirus program
Connect your Ipod to the PC
When iTunes Open up, Restore your iPod please, this is for iTunes to map correctly, to fix the corrupted filesystem.
When Restore complete, eject the iPod and reconnect again.
Sync your ipod, preferably manually Manage in small batches and disconnect after every batch, to check that all is well, since you got such a huge library.
When all sync is complete, and iPod disconnected, start back your Antivirus and connect back the Internet.
If this doesn't resolve your problem, then let me know.
    Good Luck!

  • Rename a JPG, a PSD and a CR2 file having the same filename to a new same-filename

    Hello,
The question is regarding my archives that I need to re-name.
Say within a folder I have:
    IMG_4146.JPG
    IMG_4147.JPG
    IMG_4147.CR2
    IMG_4147.PSD
    IMG_4148.JPG
    IMG_4149.JPG
I wish to rename the above as
    IMG_4146.JPG  becomes 2000.JPG
    IMG_4147.JPG  becomes 2001.JPG
    IMG_4147.CR2  becomes 2001.CR2
    IMG_4147.PSD  becomes 2001.PSD
    IMG_4148.JPG  becomes 2002.JPG
    IMG_4149.JPG  becomes 2003.JPG
    and so on..
Basically, can I get Bridge to rename all files with the same filename but different extensions, to a new filename which is also the same. As of now I rename all the JPG files in a folder sequentially, and then manually change the filename of the CR2 and PSD files to match to the filename of their JPG versions.
Note that every JPG does not have a corresponding CR2 and PSD. Hence I cannot use the sequential filename feature to rename the CR2 and PSD files.
Hope I've been clear in explaining what I need. And many thanks in advance for any help

Ah, I was in a bit of a rush this morning, the scipt should have decremented the number by 2146 in the filename.
This should do the same but remove the characters before the numbers giving a numeric filename only...
    #target bridge
    var sels = app.document.selections;
    for(var a in sels){
    sels[a].spec.rename(sels[a].name.replace(/\d{4}/,sels[a].name.match(/(.{4})(\d{4})/)[2]-2146).replace(/^.{4}/,''));

  • Batch rename of PSD, Save as JPEG, file gets old name

I am using PS CS3 Suite. I have done a batch rename in Bridge CS3 of a folder of PSD files. When I subsequently save one as a JPEG it gets the old file name. Why?

Thanks - 7.0.1 installed and still the same problem.
I have narrowed things down a bit.
It seems if I create a new doc 2400x3000 for example I can convert it to a jpeg no problem.
If I start with 3600x3600 I get the problem. Same steps as the above file with the only difference being the size.
Anyone have a solution for this as it seems like it is size related (note that I have created at this size before and never had this problem).
    Thanks.

  • Aperture is unable to reconnect with PSD files

I used Aperture's 'Consolidate Master' command to move some files from Referenced to Aperture's managed Library. Aperture didn't locate some PSD files with edited in external editor badges and left them behind during the file move.
The files that got abandoned are PSD files with quite a few layers. The actual file sizes are much bigger than Aperture reports in its EXIF information for the files.
I have tried using 'Manage Referenced Files' command. I locate the proper master file but Aperture won't reconnect. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Fortunately I have never made the assumption that editing a file externally preserves a fully fledged master copy in Aperture.
I always save externally edited files from Photoshop to a desktop folder intially, then import that folder when all the external editing for that shoot is complete. Only then am I convinced that I will have a Jpeg (or Psd or whatever) as a grade 1 master file.
Also, mixing file types any folder or album always seems a bit dangerous to me.

  • Can't reconnect PSD files.

    Hi
My partner (Final cut Studio 2) send me a project file. We're collagorating on this project. I have FCE 4.5.
I was able to reconnect all the media but he also sent me some layered PSD files. I can see them in the finder, but when I try to reconnect them, I get an error msg "The file does not have enough video tracks to reconnect to stripe at time 00:00:00;00 in sequence "xxxx.psd. Click okay to make this item independent and go to the next clip or Cancel to skip all clips from this file"
I'm still learning this FCE. How can I reconnect these files fo my FCE sees them? All the video clips have been reconnected and rendered and play fine on my MBP except for these PSD files.
There's 3 sets of layered files in the sequence. Should I add more video tracks or shouldn't FCE put in what it needs?
    Allen

It's in the sequence and on the timeline but showing off line. Anyway Mike said if I re-imported them I'd loose the layers. There's 3 sections, 1st is all the layers, then each of the 2 graphics are seperated one at the begining and one at the end. they're title seq.
He said he'd show me what to do when we meet. See, we each have a copy of the video clips. He does his work in Studio 2 and saves his stuff to his raid. Sends me the project file to open in FCE. So I have to reconnect the files and tell MBP they're on my external LaCie. Everything went good except for those PSD files. All of the info was in the CFP project file plus he sent me the graphics seperately. this is a wierd deal for me!
Thanks anyway. I'll let you know what happens.

  • Can't reconnect PSD-Images

    Hi all
    Problem:
For upgrading to OS X 10.5 I've chosen a plain new installation and saved my images (which where referenced outside the Aperture-Lib) to another USB-Drive.
After Installation of Aperture I saved my images back. By using the "Referenced Masters Tool" I could successfully reconnect all RAW- and JPEG-images, but my PSD-Files - which altogether where created by using the "Open with extern Editor" function) couldn't be reconnected.
    *History Background:*
I import my RAW-images as extern reference. When I’ve finished my Photoshop-Work, the PSD-Files were initially inside the Aperture-Library, so I used to relocate them to the same folder where the RAW-Files were…
What can I do to reconnect my PSDs?
    Thanks for help
    Vowchr

I've got the same problem, except with all of my TIF files. I replaced a hard drive with a larger one and gave the new drive the same name. I was able to reconnect my Canon raw files without a problem. But, the TIFs won't reconnect using the "Manage Referenced Files" command. Trying to "Show In Finder", "Relocate Master" and "Consolidate Master" all give me the same message: the drive for the photo is offline and it needs to be online. Well, that drive is long gone, I have a new drive with the same name in its place and Aperture gives me no option to just go and find the file on the hard drive! There used to be a "Locate" command that would come up and let you navigate to the file on your hard drive to reconnect. But, that never comes up now. Any ideas?

  • Can renamed reference files be reconnected?

I think I may have shot myself in the foot, but I'll ask the question: I had begun editing referenced files in a project when I noticed there was a significant time skew between the two cameras that were used. I eventually used ExifTool to successfully tweak all of the internal dates but then renamed the files according to the capture date as is my norm. That of course disconnected the Aperture library references to the edited files.
I want to reconnect the Aperture file references to the renamed files, but the "Manage Referenced Files" doesn't seem to work as I think I'd like: It shows the disconnected images in the Aperture library, but then I can't seem to connect these to new file names. The "Reconnect" button is greyed out.
Am I hooped and have to go back to square one, or is there some reconnection procedure that I'm missing?
    Thanks// Chris Freeborn

It may have been the EXIF tweaks that caused the problem. Aperture checksums the images, so if the checksum doesn't match, it could refuse to reconnect.
I experimented with changing the name of referenced files a long time ago, and Aperture had no problem consolidating and relocating them. However I didn't attempt to reconnect them.
This may help you recover the images:

  • 2000+ renamed masters; reconnect all doesn't even try

Long story not worth going into: I have a pile of master images that have been irreversibly renamed and are currently disconnected from the library. I can locate the master for a single image, the "Reconnect" and "Reconnect All" buttons light up, "Reconnect All" correctly reconnects that one image, but Aperture doesn't connect any more beyond that.
So basically Aperture does recognize that a master I find matches whatever criteria it uses to determine it's the file it expected, but doesn't search for any other masters within the same directory, leaving me to find the next match manually.
10.8.3, Aperture 3.4.4, Files located on a second internal drive.
Is there any way for me to have the computer do what it's best at and do this repetitive work for me? It clearly recognizes the match when I do the work myself.

I know it's been reported that Aperture considers the filename as part of reconnecting but I figured since the single reconnection works fine Aperture had inspected the file enough to realize that despite the different name it was indeed the same file, and hey, maybe it should look through here for the others seeing as I asked it to reconnect all and it would be nice if it did it without me having to manually do so. But I digress.
I wish I could rename the files but they've been recovered from a deleted scratch disk ony after I found out that the other backup I had locally and the one up on CrashPlan had about 2000 zero byte files of corruption? catalog issues? I don't know; DiskWarrior and Disk Utility were no help.
TL;DR, I don't have a clear pattern for renaming these recovered master files.
So the reimport option would just be reimport all the masters images I have and thread them into my main library?
I was also toying with renaming ALL my masters using the date or something because the recovered images have the correct timestamp so I could _probably_ normalize on that…but really this just seems weird that I can't force Aperture to look for matches itself.

  • Batch reconnect of mov's & psd's

Can you do a batch reconnect of both or ether .mov's & .psd's in FCP 6?
    Thanks
    Jeff

Yes as long as the names match. Best to move media with the media manager if that's part of what you're doing...
