Reconnecting Full res media

Hi,
here's a quick one for all you editing guru's out there:
I have a project with ProRes 422 media; I created a lowres offline edit using Media Manager's recompress option. After the rough editing, I again take media manager and create a new project with the "Create offline" option (Chosing the correct HD sequence settings) in order to reconnect the fullres media. Slight problem: since I imported the ProRes media into FCP and did not capture it from tape, the media has no reel number and therefore stays online in the newly created offline project.
What is the best workflow to do this correctly ? Simply select all media an apply "make offline" ? I googled for hours and found lots of workflows about offline/online editing, all assuming that you work with tape. Does anyone have an example that deals with media imported from disk ?
Cheers,
Bob

You can still assign a reel number to your footage in the browser, a little more challenging after the fact but doable. FCP will argue you are about to change blah blah say OK.
If I were at the point you are I would attempt to manually reconnect but it's tedious in my experience verifying the TC of a particular clip before reconnecting, believe I'd export a version of the offline w TC reader applied to each clip as a ref while reconnecting. especially once MM generates numbers following the clip name and how organized that was from the get go.
I might be tempted to set my easy setup to the required format and paste my offline into the new finishing sequence and replace with hi res that way. I could see the shot I've cut and see what I replaced that with in the reconnect if it's the same I'm golden, if not I have command z by side

  • FCP 7 recapturing AVCHD in full-res

    Hi guys
I have an issue with a project I've created.  I planned to do a traditional offline/online workflow so I originally imported AVCHD footage in ProRes Proxy via Log & Transfer.  Now that my project is finished I've created an offline sequence, and gone to reimport the required footage again as ProRes
The trouble I'm having is that prior to originally transferring the Proxy footage I renamed all my clips.  Now when I go to reconnect the media FCP is pointing me only to the Proxy clips on my hard drive.  When I got to "locate" in the reconnect window and try to manually select the AVCHD folder that's still sitting on my camcorder, FCP crashes.
How do I reconnect to the original AVCHD footage?  Should I delete all my proxy media from my hard drive, and do a full reimport as ProRes via Log & Transfer, then reconnect the offline media to the newly imported clips?

COOL! YOu figured it out. Saves me posting a link to the solution to the workflow.  Oh, I'll post it anyway, in case someone google searches this issue...

  • Recapture at full Res

    Hi all.
I'm having a problem with producing accurate off line clips using the media manager so as to re capture at full res.
Following the book and var tips from the forum, I use media manager, select Create offline, set my sequence to the correct Kona HDCAM full res. Tick to Include master clips outside selection (although I can't quite work out what this means). Tick Delete unused media and tick for a handles of 10 frames. Tick to Include affiliates (although, once again, I can't quite work out what this means). I un tick Include nonactive multi clip, as I have loads of them. Then OK.
It makes the new project and a bunch of offline clips but also makes/copies clips with my low res pictures. Also, it has ignored the handles on all multi cam clips so I often have 5min takes where I only need a few 3 or 4 second clips.
I think this is related to the project having all the clips I edited with being made from merged pic and wav audio, often then making multicam groups with 2 or 3 cams and sep wav audio. This has cause many issues including project size. As a result of this bloat, the project got up to 180mb. Following advise from some of the very experienced members here, I have split the project up. I used copy and paste to make new sequences in new projects. Size is still and issue (40-60mb) but seems to work ok.
Any ideas welcome as I have resorted to an edl conform which is working like a dream, apart from not having any motion reframes.
    Thanks in advance.
    John

    Hi Jerry
It sure is a complex trace. All nesting has gone. All multiclips are collapsed, however, re reading the book does say that FC will recapture the whole clip for an offline multiclip. One thing that may be an issue is the multiclips in the timeline dont have master multiclips in the project (ie shift F shows nothing). This is because I copy and paste the edit into a new sequence in a new empty project so as to keep the size down.
I Did have a think about the xml but as I am use to reconforming via edl I went with what I know. And yes to a picture only conform, 20 tapes done with 88 still to go. At least the omf's of all my reels have worked perfectly.
I want to try and figure out the best work flow for the next feature with sep audio and pic as its such a shame to have lost the motion settings on this one.
    Thanks for your thoughts

  • After upgrading to Yosemite, I had to upgrade my iPhoto, now the full res versions of my images cannot be found.

After upgrading to Yosemite, I had to upgrade my iPhoto, now the full res versions of my images cannot be found.  I had created a book to print (before upgrade) but, after the upgrade the book can't be created as I get the message that images can't be found. However, if I search for the filename I can find the image. I tried repairing library as per support instructions but it hasn't helped. Any advice gratefully received. Thanks.

    Do the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
    2 - apply Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • How to view every frame, full res, in Viewer... settings?

Hi, We use a strobe flash to sync multiple cameras on a live shoot (DV, NTSC, SD footage). Since I began using FCP and multi-cam, I can not always find the frame where the strobe pulses. Is there a way to increase the viewer settings to view every frame in full res? I would only need this to find the sync point then adjust back to normal editing settings. Thanks.

In my ongoing HDV to SD investigations, I needed a view that was 1:1, and showed both fields of interlacing, and 100% seemed to be it - I think I just happened upon it, by trial and error.
Glad to be able to share though.
Some nice 100% view screen shots on my HDV page (shameless plug again)
    http://www3.telus.net/bonsai/Step-by-Step.html scroll to the end.
While on that subject, MPEG StreamClip is the only viewer I know of that does the same thing for the playback of interlaced MPEG's, you set the window zoom to match the frame size, and you get 1:1 interlaced viewing, aspect corrected on the horizontal, not the vertical.
FCP, for the longest time, used to aspect correct on the vertical (scale the height, while keeping the width 1:1) but this is not what you want for seeing fields at 1:1. I'm glad to report FCP5 now scales the horizontal to correct aspect ratio (when view as square pixels is ticked) and keeps the vertical, and therefore the fields, at 1:1.
Quicktime, and VLC both do field blending when viewing interlaced mpeg's, so you don't see the real interlaced footage. I actually prefer to see interlacing in computer monitors, especially if it is updated, one field at a time, at 60 updated fields per second - I think MPEG Streamclip does this - it might not though - its hard to fully see, but it looks smoother than the canvas / viewer playback, which is 30 frames per second.

  • How to import DVD+VR (full res.) into iMovie HD?

I created the disks from old VCR tapes using a Lite-On DVD Recorder and now I want to edit them (full res.) and burn them back to DVD. This is one of the main reasons I purchased this comp. (sales clerk said it would do it "No problem") I've tried a couple different programs but it always comes out pixelated. This is my first Mac and everything else works great.

Creating a DVD has already seriously compressed your VHS footage, so you can't edit at full resolution. The best way to use iMovie to convert VHS to digital is to use a miniDV camcorder as a pass-through between VCR and Mac. This will get your footage imported at the best resolution. You can edit in iMovie, send to iDVD to finish and compress to DVD format.
    From Karsten Schluter:
    From VHS to DVD
Give New Life to Old Movies
    http://www.macworld.com/2004/05/features/fromvhstodvd/
You can convert yor DVD files into something that iMovie can handle, but you will have to get additional software for the conversions. Also, your quality will suffer. See how here:

Aperture has the ability to work with files in their existing location. They are called "referenced masters." When you import images, you should select the "In their current location" in the "Store Files:" drop down box. Have a read of the documentation for full specifics. Unsure how you can resolve your duplication; might be some work but next time have a read of the manual first
Information for versions is stored in the Aperture database (library file). The masters can be inside the library file itself, or they can be somewhere else.

  • Full res retina iPad and Edge Animation issues

OK So I have been building folios for the new iPad (retnia) and the only way I can get a full page animation built in edge to work is to build it on a stage that is half res (1024x768). If I build a full screen edge animation (2048x1536) it just shows a blank screen on that page on the iPad. Anyone have any tips on this? The folio is built at 2048x1536. So when i place a 1024x768 oam file I have to stretch it and use "scale to fit". Although the animation works like this it is not as pretty as the full res pages that follow. Ideas?

Alright. So I did a bunch of testing. Good news is that text created in indesign looks identical in quality regardless of if the indesign file is 1024 or 2048 when using PDF as the folio format. Bad news is that images (i.e. placed psd files) look not as great. Definantly better than when i was trying to upscale in folio Automatic from 1024 to 2048 but not as good as a indesign file created at 2048.
Wish there was a way to solve the image quality issue. Oh and of course all the Edge animations work like a charm using PDF and 1024. They still are not as sharp or high quality as Edge animations built at 2048 but at least they work.

  • Set sequence to low res, chromakey and then render full res

I have a sequence (original footage is DV50) and I'm working with stills for background.
Everytime I do something, I have to re-render.
I'd like to set the sequence to a setting where I can put down all my assets, set ins and outs (with fades and stuff) and be able to get a good grip. Then I'd like to render at full resolution and make any necessary changes.
I'm experimenting with the "RT" button, but even when all settings to low, I get "Unrendered".
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

4499x3301 is huge for FCP. That's way.
Are you aware of things like 'Option \' (Play every frame).
It plays every frame full res, but only on the speed that it can cope with. Saves you lots of renders (and thus rendertime and diskspace)
Or use QuickView (Option 8) on a part from in to out point. That makes it possible to see only a part of a clip that needs to be rendered.
Or when you need to view timing of moving objects, you can choose to use the wireframes of the images. With the desired clips selected in the timeline and the pointer being within the selection, press 'w', until you see the wireframes only. (Use 'w' once or twice again to toggle to normal view and normal view with wireframes).

  • ICloud Photo Libary Full Res Download?

I read that the high resolution originals can still be downloaded on request. How is this done on the iphone? How do I download a full res image within the iphone photos app? I currently use the Optimise storage option.

wondering about that too ... not seeing any option allowing this. Only thing I heard is that high res would be downloaded on the fly while editing. Then back to "optimized" after the syncing with iCloud.

  • Can I restore cache files to full res?

I somehow deleted a folder from my system months ago that I now need. I can't find the folder anywhere in my hard drive or backup, but I can find the cache files. Is there anything I can do with those?

If I understand it correctly, if you have Bridge set to store full sized previews in cache, then it stores a JPG the full size of the image.  If you zoom in to '100%/actual pixel size' with the Bridge viewer, then you do indeed see a representation of a full res of any particular image.  But AFAIK you can only access the cache via Bridge.  You can't go in with My Documents, and pull out a single JPG.
This also presupposes that the Bridge cache keeps a copy of deleted documents.  I can just imagine the outcry on sites like this, if it was discovered that Bridge was that sloppy with cache file managment! So I suspect that you are out of luck, in that respect at least.
But you mention a back up, so the files were stored in two locations prior to being deleted?  That doubles the chance of a file recovery program finding them.  I'm guessing that you have tried the Recycle Bin, or whatever Mac systems use?

  • How to download full res photo w/ iWeb?

Is it possible for someone to download a full res (not just a thumbnail) photo directly from a photo that I have posted on a photo page of iWeb? I thought that this could be done by "right-clicking", but it does not seem to work. I know that I can create a separate file download page, but I was hoping that family could download the full res direct from the photo page? Thanks for any insight on this.

You're right. The images I uploaded from iPhoto were originally, approximately, 1 Mb each. When they were uploaded to the web, via iWeb publishing, they are all 60Kb - a significant drop in file size.
To answer your query, specifically, if you want friends/family to have access to high res images, then photocast an album with the pictures you want to share.

There is that pitfall in buying HiDpi laptops for Windows.
Only Photoshop CC 2014 has the option to scale the UI 200% in order to make it usable on these hires screens.
CC and earlier does not have this and Adobe would have to retrofit them. Not likely with older products.

  • Premiere CC Choppy Playback in Full Res

    Hey All,
I just made the switch to premiere from FCP, like many others, and can't seem to watch my edits back full res without them being very choppy.  This is important because of the review process I go through with many clients.  I have done some research on my own and haven't really been able to nail down the exact problem.  I may just be experiencing a computer power issue.
Here is what I am working with.
I am also working with ProRes 422 mostly and have setup the render settings accordingly.  Here are what they look like.
Is this just a question of processing power?
    Thanks
