Reconnecting itunes with library after fresf windows install

how do i reconnect itunes (that is installed on my new OS drive C:) to my old itunes library (installed on old media drive G:)?

Press and hold down shift as you launch iTunes, keep holding until this dialog appears.
Click Choose Library... and browse to the old library that you want to connect to. This would normally be found at \Users\<User>\Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl or, \Documents and Settings\<User>\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl.
In some cases you may need to fix security permissions on the folder. See Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows.

  • Reconnecting iTunes with data

Had a system issue and had to wipe and reinstall windows 7 on my c: drive.
All my data is stored on my d: drive .
How do I reconnect iTunes with that data and specifically the library history.
I don't want have to reimport everything back into iTunes.
Once installed and synced with the data, will iTunes recognize all my devices ( iPod, I touch , and iPad 1)?

    Hi Markie,
It's not in the top window now, it's in the main section. When you plug your iPod in click on it and at the bottom of the window the Capacity pole changes as it adds stuff.
Is that what you're looking for?

How do I consolidate an Itunes music library on two windows computers onto one windows computer?

Click here, pick the option which best fits your situation, open the larger library in iTunes, move the media files from the smaller one into the library in the open iTunes program window or the Automatically Add to iTunes folder, and then import the playlists. Any rented movies will only play on the computer they were originally downloaded to.

  • *Problems uninstalling itunes/quicktime after using windows install cleanup

I was having problems installing itunes/quicktime 7.6. Everytime I tried to install it it would say that it does not have a valid digital signiture. So one of the suggestions I saw on this forum was to install windows install cleanup and use it on itunes and quicktime. So I did but all it did is mess up my old itunes/quicktime. Now when I go to try and uninstall itunes and quicktime from the add and remove programs in the control pannel it does not even show itunes or quicktime in my program list. Any suggestions??

Ok, Update. I was able to remove itunes and quicktime manually after going into my windows task manager and to the processes tab and ended all processes involving itunes, apple, or quicktime. So now when I install itunes/quicktimes via apples site when it gets to the end it just disapears and nothing happens. I searched to see if it installed anything and it didn't, didn't even give me any reasons why. Can anyone help me with this?? It would help me a ton!

  • Can't restore backed up iTunes library on new Windows install

I just reinstalled Windows on my system drive. My previous iTunes library was located on another internal HDD. I installed iTunes on my new Windows install, and tried simply changing my library location to the old location in the preferences, which didn't work for restoring anything. Then I tried starting iTunes whole holding shift, and choosing the old library file, which did nothing. iTunes starts up, and has absolutely nothing in the library, even from the old library file. The library files have a modified date of yesterday, so they haven't been overwritten by starting iTunes and setting the library location to the old location. I also reassigned the drive letter for this drive so it was the same as my previous install so filepaths would be the same.
Is there anything I'm doing wrong? I'd really like to restore my library with all my playlists, playcounts, and ratings.

  • ITunes install when old HD with library and media is installed as 2nd local HD on new computer

    Hello support community:
My (Windows 7) laptop died unexpectedly. I didn't have a chance to consolidate my itunes library, and my files are not all in the itunes folder.
The replacement (Windows 7) laptop has space for a second hard drive, so I installed the hard drive from the dead laptop, with all my music files and itunes library. All my old data is now on my new Local Disc E. Windows is installed on C. I could copy all my music to C, but will probably leave E installed for the life of this laptop anyway.
Is it possible to move my itunes library data, such as playlists, play counts and star ratings,  to the new itunes installation?
Will iTunes library search for the media files on the same drive where the library folder is located (E:folder\subfolder) or at the path where it was previosly located (C:\folder\subfolder)
    Thanks for any advice!

If you still have the old computer, you should be able to connect the iPad, run iTunes and restore from a backup from a previous sync.  Now that you have it updated, you will not need to do that again.

  • Blank iTunes library after Archive and Install

My PowerBook G4 suffered a catastrophic crash and after advice from Apple support, the only way I could restart it was to perform an Archive and Install. Before this, I couldn't start the machine and therefore couldn't back anything up. Everything seems to be all right after the Archive and Install except that my iTunes library is completely blank, and the old library is not anywhere on the hard drive. All of the songs are still on my iPod - is there any way to get them back into the library? I don't want to connect the iPod and lose everything I have now.
    Thanks!

From the Keyboard Shortcuts in the iTunes Help menu:
    iPod shortcuts
Prevent iPod from automatically updating when you connect it to your computer
Command-Option as you connect the iPod to your computer (hold the keys down until the iPod appears in the iTunes Source list)
After that, use an application like Senuti or iPodRip (latest versions on versiontracker.com) to transfer the contents of your iPod to the computer.
    Hope this helps.

  • Itunes wont open after trying to install 11.1.4??

iTunes will not open after trying to install 11.1.4 version ??

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall press on)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

  • Itunes stops working after update windows 7

I am using Windows 7 64 bit and recently updated to itunes 12. After a few minutes itunes crashed with the "has stopped working" message. I have reinstalled, created a different user account and got rid of all other Apple programs all to no avail. I even reinstalled itunes 11 but it would not recognise my library. This is driving me mad. Seems I'm not the only one. suggestions please!!

I'm going to ask the hosts to move this to the windows part of the iTunes part of this forum. YOu'll stand a better chance to get an answer there than you will here.

  • ITunes lost library. now can't install iTunes at all!!??

I have iTunes on a iMac running the latest of everything. A year or more ago I transferred the iTunes library to an external drive and marked it on my start up drive with an alias. Worked great until today. I turned on iTunes and no music at all! I checked and it is still on the hard drive and the advanced prefernces shows it still pointing to the other hard drive. I tried everything I could find on the Apple support pages and this list and others and nothing works. I finally trashed iTunes and everything connected to it on the start up drive. I downloaded iTunes 6.0.4 and tried installing it. I get to the install button, click on it and it says - "You cannot continue. There is nothing to install". On customize install all options are greyed out and the word 'skip' is in the next column. iTunes shows 0 bytes! Easy install will not work either.
I finally connected the hard drive to my powerbook and confirmed the music is still there but I lost all playlists and folders.
I called Apple support but they want $49 to help isolate the problem with no guarantee they can fix it.
Anyone out there able to help?
    Thanks, Mike

    Mike,
The song locations, playlists, ratings and Date Added are all stored in the 'iTunes Library' file. (more info here).
It appears to me, the file got corrupted or missing.
If the file got corrupted, you should have gotten a message about a 'damaged library file' or something like that.
The one you now have is empty and contains no data. You might take a look in the 'Previous iTunes Libraries' folder inside the iTunes folder.
If there are still older versions available, use the most recent one, rename it to 'iTunes Library' and put it in the iTunes folder, replacing the one just created.
That might bring most contents back.
Working with an alias might complicate the restoring process. I'm not enthousiast about those. I prefer creating symlinks. They seem to be more stable with OS X.
To bring back the remainder, drag and drop the 'iTunes Music' alias on the library window in iTunes. I'm not sure if this will work with aliases, but it could add the possible missing contents to the library.
If no other library files are found, I'm afraid you have to start from scratch.

  • ITunes - media library on a windows share

    Hi,
    All of my music is on a central server, a windows server. I am trying to get iTunes to use the shared directory as a location of my media. However whenever I select the shared location in the advanced options it seems to set the location to;
    /Volumes/Media/Music
Which of course is not the place where my music is ...
Is it possible to even do this? I really dont want iTunes to copy all the music to the local hard drive, I just want it to stream the music across the network.
Any help would be gratefully received.
    Cheers
    Rich

The key file is the library.itl file.  This is the file iTunes uses to store all the information it presents to you when you open the program.  Well, there's also a few other library files as well as the artwork folder, but the .itl file is the center of it.  You don't say whether or not the PC has its own library with unique content, or if you are trying to duplicate the library for both.  If the PC library is empty try copying the whole iTunes folder (which contains no media according to you) to the PC, then start iTunes with the shift key held down and guide iTunes to the new library file set (or copy it over the one currently on your PC and just start normally).

  • How to reconnect iTunes with song files

My iTunes music isn't all showing in iTunes. It is all on the hard drive I don't know the best way to reconnect iTunes and the files.
I had ITunes putting music files on an external drive into a folder "•MUSIC Files". Prior to setting that up ITunes had been putting files into Home/Music.
My iPod battery failed; an old iPod for which batteries are not available. So the replacement battery came in a refurb iPod sans my music and audiobooks. At that same time I upgraded to Leopard and moved the files from the external drive to the internal drive- to clear the external for Time Machine. The •MUSIC Files folder was put into the Home/Music folder.
ITunes sees the files in the Home/Music folder but it doesn't see the files in the •MUSIC Files folder (that is in the Home/Music foldet). Dragging files out of that folder doesn't work nor does dragging an album folder. I hope that I don't have to import one file at a time, HELP!
