Reconnecting to Server

I have a Windows Home Server system that contains all my music and photos.
I have several MACs (all running the latest software) that are set up to automatically connect to this server's specific drives - using system preferences/account/login items.
The server is sent into hibernation each night to conserve power and the mac Mini's that are part of a media center are put to sleep each night.
The shared drives (from the server) are shown on the desktop of the Mini's, but when I open the drive icon I see only the top level folders, opening any folder does not show the files inside.
My Itunes/Iphoto music and images are all on the server - and they do not show up either.
The only way to resolve the issue is to restart the Mini's and then all folders/files are visible.
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated

  • NFS shares fail to reconnect after server is rebooted

    Hi everyone,
I currently have a File Sharing/Media Box/Torrent/Newgroup box in my basement/theater room. It is basically running as my server for the house. Consequently I have a bunch of NFS shares on it. Previously I was running Ubuntu on a similar box and didn't have this issue. What is happening is that if I reboot the server for whatever reason, the clients do not reconnect to the shares once the server box has rebooted. When I was running Ubuntu, after reboot the shares would just automagically be reconnected.
Both boxes are running Arch Linux if it matters.
Here is the /etc/exports file on the server:

    Hi there,
Have you tried running the SBS specific wizards on your system, namely the Fix my Network wizard and the import trusted certificate tool?
    FMNW: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc546095.aspx
    Import Trusted Certificate:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc546059.aspx
I'd start with FMNW, and then try a reboot to test if you're still having issues. If yes, then I'd try importing your certificate with the SBS tool, test again.
After that, you might look at the SBS Best Practices Analyzer results for your server to see if it picks up on a misconfiguration or condition that might be behind this issue.

  • Some problems to reconnect to server after shutdown server

    Hi all,
I have some problems to reconnect to JMS server. (OpenJMS). I have two queues, one to send messages, one to read messages. I implemented ExceptionListener but it's no clear if I must close session and connection or not.
In the onException, can I create a new connection, new session, new QueueReceiver and QueueSender? I'm confused :(.
    Thanks in advance,
    Federica

I'd recommend you just switch to Apache ActiveMQ (which fully implements JMS 1.1) and which also supports auto-reconnect...

  • Client reconnection after Server shutdown

Hi. Can I reconnect a client whose connection has been reset because of a server shutdown to the "new" server (which meanwhile has been started) without restarting the client itself?
    Thanks, any help is appreciated.

not sure what you mean by 'client' but if you have a Socket that has had any kind of IOException or SocketException you need to close it and create a new one.

  • TCP reconnect to server

    Hi!
I would like to do smoething that is explained here:
    http://www.ni.com/example/28039/en/
Altough the files is to old for my LabView 2014 so I can not take a look into those files. But I would like my client to reconnect to the server if the server for some reasone die for a couple of minutes. I tried to do a while loop which containde both the reding while loop and TCP Open Connection. But it seems to be overflow when starting the server again (error code 63). Any ideas?

The Simple TCP Example server is not a good example for what you want to do. The server has to be able to detect that the client disconnected and go back into listen (waiting) mode for new incoming connections.
If you look in Example Finder for TCP examples you should take a closer look at Data Server.vi (allowing only one simultanous connection at the same time) or one of the other two DataServerUsingReentrantRun.vi or DataServerUsingStartAsynchronousCall.vi to see a server architecture that allows a client to disconnect on error an then reconnect.

  • Reconnect to server after uninstalled and then reinstalled?

This is going to sound dumb (it does to me), but I did this none the less and now need help. I installed OS X Lion Server to test out if it would work for what I needed. I went through the intial setup and turned some basic services on. I decided I did not need it, and then uninstalled the app. Well uninstalling the app did not remove the server I had setup so the services that were left on, like File Sharing, are stil "on" and showing everything in Finder as a shared folder.
I figured I could reinstall the server app, reconnect to the server, and then shut the services off. Unfortunately that is not what happened. I was able to reinstall the server app and now the app just sits spinning trying to connect to a server.
Is it possible to reconnect to the original server I created?

  • RMI How can a Client reconnect to a server after connection(any)-error

    I have the following problem:
My RMI-Server runs for ever. In a batch-queue I have a procedure which looks periodly wether rmiregistry
and RMI-Server exists. On error both processes are killed and restarted.
My client as a simple example is displaying the server time. If any communication-problem with the
server exists, I need an automatic reconnect to the server. I accept that into the time distanz of the
error the display is frozen. Its unacceptable to restart the client !!.
The following example demonstates my test-example:
    Server:
    1. Start
    2. waits for connecting (factory)
    3. answer time-requests
    Client:
    1. Start
    2. create a time class initially 1.jan.1970 00:00:00
    3. Start a timer displaying the time class every second
    4. start a timer connecting/reconnecting to the server and ask the servers actual time every second
PS. Is the server to stubil programmed, so that a hang can exists?
It would be nice, if anybody could answer me !!

    Hello willy51,
    Thank you for answering.
I think, your comment of the design is true - its a problem when starting up in a new enviroment and
you have nobody who shows you the right direction at the beginning. Talking personally together only
10 minutes is better than writing a noval.
I thing the following model of a client works better:
    concept:
    - visualize a personal time class continously evgery second
    - if there is a connection to a server set the time-class with the server time
    - if you loss connection, try to reconnect
    question:
in which situation hangs connectToServer() ?

  • What exactly does the Work Offline option do in a shared review hosted on an internal server?

    Hi,
What exactly does the Work Offline option do in a shared review hosted on an internal server?
I *think* it simply disconnects you from the review server. I'm not sure why one would want to do this.
I'm trying to recommend an offline workflow for reviewers who may not be able to access a shared review hosted on our internal server (for example, while traveling). These reviewers would like to be able to comment on an offline version of the review PDF and then publish their comments when they can again connect to the Internet/internal server.
It doesn't seem like "Work Offline"  is the right fit for this scenario. Instead, should reviewers save a local copy to their hard drive, comment on it, and then, when reconnected to the Internet, open the local copy, click Reconnect to Server, and then click Publish Comments?

Thanks, Dave. So for my hypothetical traveling reviewer, it would be reasonable to suggest the following steps for an offline workflow?
    1. Connect to the shared review.
    2. Choose Work Offline from the Server Status menu.
    3. Close and save the review PDF locally.
    4. Comment while traveling.
    5. When back in the office, open the local copy of the review PDF.
    6. Click Reconnect to Server.
    7. Click Publish Comments.

after some time i am removing the network cable in the middle while my application is running.
after few seconds i plgged it again and tried to reconnect oracle server with client where my application is still running
but it is not reconnecting and giving error "ORA- 3114 not connected to oracle" while execuiting a query.
could anyone suggest what may be the cause of the problem and solution.
i am using ODynaset class to access the database from my mfc application.
i am properly closing the database while disconnect happens and again opening database using ODatabase object its opening

  • Multiple room management -- best practice -- server side http api update?

    Hi Folks,
Some of the forum postings on multiple room management are over year old now.  I have student/tutor chat application which has been in the wild for 5 months now and appears to be working well.  There is a single tutor per room, multiple chats and soon to be a whiteboard per student, which is shared with the tutor in a tabbed UI.
It is now time to fill out the multiple tutor functionality, which I considered and researched when building, but did not come to any conclusions.   I'm leaning towards a server side implementation.  Is there an impending update to the http api?
Here is what I understand to be the flow:
    1) server side management of who is accessing the room
    2) load balance and manage the room access 1 time user and owner session from the server side
    3) for my implementation, a tutor will need to login to the room, in order for it to be available
    4) Any reconnection would in turn need to be managed by the server side, and is really a special case of room load balancing.
My fear is that at some point I'm going to need access to the number of students in the room or similar and this is not available, so that I'll need client functionality, which will need update the server side manager.
As well, I'm concerned about delays on the server side access to which might create race conditions in a re-connect situation.  User attempts to reconnect, but server side manager thinks that the user is already connected.
Surely this simple room management has been built, does anyone have any wisdom they can impart?  Is there any best practice guidance or any samples?
    Thanks,
    Doug

Hi Raff, Thanks a ton for the response.
I wasn't clear on what I was calling load balancing.  What I mean by this is room assignment for student clients.  We have one tutor per room.  There are multiple students per room, but each is in their own one-on-one chat with the tutor.
I'm very much struggling with where to do the room assignment / room managemnt, on the server side or on the client side (if that is even possible).  In my testing it is taking upwards of 10 seconds minimum to get a list of rooms (4 virtually empty rooms) and to query the users in a single room (also a minimum of users/nodes in the queried room).   If after this point, I 'redirect' the student to the least full room, then the student incurs the cost of creating a new session and logging into the room.  As well I intend to do a bit of xml parsing, and other processing, so that 10 seconds is likely to grow.
Would I see better performance trying to do this in the client?
As far as the server side, at what point does a room go to 'not-active'?
When I'm querying the roomList, I am considered one of the 'OWNER' users in the UserLists.  At what point can it be safe to assume that I have left the room?
Is there documentation on the meaning and lifecycle of the different status codes?  not-active,  not-running, and ok?  Are there others?
How much staleness can I expect from the server-side queries?
As far as feature set, the only thing that comes to mind is xpath and or wild card support for getNode() but i think this was mentioned in other posts.
Regarding the reconnection issues, I am timing out the student after inactivity, and this is probably by and large the bulk of my reconnect use cases.  This and any logout interaction from the student presents a use case where I  may want reassign the student return to the same room as before.  I can envision scenarios of a preferred tutor if available etc.  In this case, I'll need to know list of rooms.  In terms of reconnection failover, this is not not a LCCS / FMS issue.
    Thanks again for responding.

  • Proxy Server in File Transfer System

Hi, I need to write out a file transfer system through a proxy server for my project
All the while i was writing a file transfer system directly from client to server without any security issue
Anyway, the scope is given as below, and i know it needs the JSSE package to come out a SSLSocket and SSLServerSocket.
    The question is...
    1. can i use NIO with JSSE included?
    2. how to come out a java proxy server? is there any tutorial i can read through?
The scope is given as below
    1) Proxy server
    * perform tunning and keep the linking between file transfer host and client
    * authenticate the file transfer client using CA certificate to establish SSL connection
    * Once authorised, need to establish another SSL connection to host engine
    2) File Transfer Manager at Client
    * To initiate SSL connection to proxy server
    * To open two type of connection: command and file connection
    * The command connection is always keep alive
    * For the file connection, the system required to re-open another connection after send file to host
    * Auto-reconnect to server when the connection is down

    Hi,
It is a new feature of SMB3 named SMB MultiChannel, which helps copy files through multiple NICs.
    Detailed information please see:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/josebda/archive/2012/05/13/the-basics-of-smb-multichannel-a-feature-of-windows-server-2012-and-smb-3-0.aspx
As mentioned you can disable or enable it with following steps:
    2.2. Disabling
SMB Multichannel is enabled by default and there is typically no need to disable it.
However, if you want to disable SMB Multichannel (for testing purposes, for instance), you can use the following PowerShell cmdlets:
    On the SMB server side:
    Set-SmbServerConfiguration -EnableMultiChannel $false
    On the SMB client side:
    Set-SmbClientConfiguration -EnableMultiChannel $false
Note: Disabling the feature on either the client or the server prevent the systems from using it.
    2.3. Re-enabling
You can re-enable SMB Multichannel after you disabled it by using:
    On the SMB server side:
    Set-SmbServerConfiguration -EnableMultiChannel $true
    On the SMB client side:
    Set-SmbClientConfiguration -EnableMultiChannel $true
Note: You need to enable the feature on both the client or the server to start using it again.

  • Leopard server networking

I haven't run any version of mac os server before, so most
of my frustration is probably lack of experience, but the
things I am trying to do are easy under linux and seem all
    but impossible under leopard server.
    My configuration:
I have a dsl connection from at&t that uses pppoe to
connect. They give me a /28 block (i.e. 16 ip addresses).
I am using a Mac Pro for the hardware.
What I want to do is the following:
1: Automatically start up the pppoe connection at boot time,
and re-connect if it goes down for some reason.
Q1a: How do i start or stop a network connection from the
    command line?
Q1b: Where are the ppp options to the pppd process set?
Although I don't think i need it for my configuration, I may
need or want to set the proxyarp option. /etc/ppp/options
is a possibility, but it would be nice to set it only for this
particular connection, not all the time.
2: Attach additional IP addresses to the ppp interface
when it comes up so i can run more than one ip based
    service on the same hardware.
I can do this via the command line:
    ifconfig ppp0 alias <new ip> netmask 255.255.255.240 <at&t gateway>
And i can probably put this in a script at /etc/ppp/ip-up but
it seems like this would be configurable elsewhere.
3: As a side note, why can't the airport extreme basestation
distribute a range of addresses if it is connected via pppoe
the same as it can if connected via ethernet?

Yes, the Cisco is configure for NAT and works fine via the airport and can reach the Server after unplugging and reconnecting the server.
The Server has a static IP address have has the appropriate routes in the Cisco. Again this config worked fine until I upgraded. Additionally, I have a route for FTP traffic to the server from the outside interface.
    Apple Firewall is disabled.
It's the strangest thing. If you disconnect the server's ethernet cable and reconnect it the server can be seen again on the network. At that point you can connect using remote desktop and stay on for as long as you wish. Once you disconnect from remote desktop the computer again disappears from the network as if the nic card has gone into hibernate mode. I have tried to change the setting to never sleep and Wake for Ethernet network access. under the Energy Saver utility. Any other suggestions? Is there a config file that I could play with that might help keep the connection alive?
To get the server back on the network, unplug and reconnect and it show that it has been idle for X# of minutes.
    Appreciate your input.
