Reconnecting to XDCAM files.

Hello,
I'm having a weird problem that I've encountered before on a smaller scale, but it's now escalated to epic proportions and I need some help.
I've been editing a series for broadcast, shot and edited in XDCAM (I know, coulda transcoded to prores).
One of our media drives started playing up recently, but we weren't too bothered as we have everything backed-up.
Yesterday the drive failed, so we've started referencing media on the back-up. The problem is that I can't re-connect the clips in the browser/timeline to the media on the back-up drive without going through a painfully slow process.
If I select a load of offline clips in the browser, and choose to reconnect, I get the Reconnect Files window, but it just says - " is missing.
If i choose just 1 clip and reconnect, I get the same message, but I can locate the clip manually, however, I have literally hours and hours of media, all XDCAM, and broken into small clips.
I'm assuming that it's something to do with the tapeless media having no Reel number, or something along those lines. Anyone one how I can re-connect my media as per usual?
EDIT - Actually, it's not just the XDCAM media, but all media that didn't originate from tape.

For example, if the drive that failed's name was "drive1" rename the new drive with the media "drive1."
If the media on the original drive was in a folder called "project1" inside a folder called "Capture Scratch," create a folder at the root level of the new drive and call it "Capture Scratch" and a folder within that called "project1" and move all the media to that folder.
Right, I understand. I'm grateful for your suggestion, but i think I might run into other difficulties if I re-name the drive, as there is other media for different projects (not just fcp) on all our drives now.
If you don't know what exact folder structure of the original drive is, when you open the reconnect dialog box, it should show you the path for each clip.
Nope, it doesn't... i just get the " is missing message.
All FCP uses to locate the files is the "path" so if you recreate the path, fcp usually will find the media without any problems.
Hope this helps.
Thanks again Michael. I'm going to persevere with the re-connect clips one at a time method for now. I've managed to get 6 out of 7 programmes done over the last few days, it's just this final programme that has all the XDCAM media that is causing the biggest headache.
Even when I use the Reconnect File option, with all the names of the clips in the browser being identical to the names of the clips in the capture scratch, and I manually locate the files, I still have to uncheck the Matched Name and Reel Only dialogue box in order to select the appropriate clip.
I've resigned myself to the fact that I'm in for a very laborious task. Luckily I've been working hard and am actually ahead of schedule, so as soon as FCP is finished re-installing I'll crack on with it.
All the best,
James.

  • How to use XDCAM files with Premier 4 Trial

According to everything I have read, using XDCAM files with Premier 4 is easy. It just works. However, it doesn't with me.
For starters, when I create a new project, there are no XDCAM presets, despite it stating there are in the various documents I have read.
If I either try to import a file directly or copy it to the hard drive and then import it, I get:
    Error Message
The importer reported a generic error
    Not very helpful.
This is a trial version of Premier to try to establish if this product is any good. I did try to contact Adobe but they say they don't support trial users. Not very helpful. Since Adobe are obviously not very interested in selling their products, is there anyone else out there whop can answer this or should I just use Final Cut Pro instead (well if Adobe are not interested in helping a potential customer, what chance is there of being helpful once they have your money???)

As far as I am concerned, editing XDCAM EX files with CS4 - I have yet to edit XDCAM (HD) files - is as easy as editing DV(CAM) material on my i7 Extreme machine with Vista Ultimate and 12 Gig of RAM.
I am also pleased to report that the audio bug that beset CS3 when editing XDCAM EX files namely, audio cutting out randomly, is a thing of the past.
The whole CS4 Suite (including Premiere) has been running very smoothly on my (beefy) machine.

  • Cannot reconnect to referenced files

I have copied all my pic folders to another external drive and want to now reconnect these linked files to the library...but I can't.
    Am I doing something wrong?
    this is my procedure:
    - I see my files as linked but not online
    - i then choose locate files
    - i get to pick the new drive and match the referenced file to the same file but in a new location
BUT the reconnect/reconnect all won't become available (it stays greyed out).
what's wrong? the same files exactly but I can't reconnect using another drive?! seems strange...
Can't find the info in the manual either.

I am seeing the same thing. I had all of my images stored on a USB drive shared by an Airport Extreme Base Station. Due to ridiculously poor performance of this setup, I recently unplugged the drive from the base station and plugged it directly into my MBP. I was surprised Aperture couldn't find my photos, considering the volume name was the same, but no matter I decided to reconnect. This worked fine for ~16000 photos but failed for 5.
Now, I can find those 5 photos on the drive and they are readable (e.g. viewable in Preview), but when I try to reconnect, both the "Reconnect" and "Reconnect All" buttons are greyed out.
    Any help would be appreciated!

  • Premiere CS4 crashes with MXF XDCAM files

I have MXF files coming from MP4 XDCAM EX files (converted with Sony EX Browser) and MOV XDCAM EX files (converted with Convergent Design File Converter) both from JVC HM700. Premiere imports all files and if I have a simple timeline it works fine. As soon as the timeline gets longer Premiere stucks and eventually crashes.
    Any idea?

I use Clip Browser to convert footage done in MP4 but also Convergent Design's File Converter 1.3 to convert footage shot in MOV.
in Premiere on MAC both MXFs work fine is just that in long (over 15-20 minutes) projects and where there are 2 levels of timeline (I'm sincing the 2cameras) or when I do a simple scale effect (to see the level underneath) everything stucks, get very slow and eventually crashes.
Actually a single MXF file plays better than a MOV XDCAM file and almost the same than a MP4 XDCAM file.. but as I said.. when it gets to handle many together.. things don't work so good anymore

  • When I try to print my book I receive the following error message:  One or more of the images in your book are not presently available at full resolution. Please reconnect to these files by mounting the volume(s) containing the original images.

When I try to print my book, I receive the following error message:  One or more of the images in your book are not presently available at full resolution. Please reconnect to these files by mounting the volume(s) containing the original images.  I don't understand what this means since all the photos are in the book.  Can someone please clarify?

When you look at the images in the browser, do you see any arrow icons on your thumbnails? Like these:
When you import your images from a folder on your system drive, you have two ways to import:
Managed: Import and store the images in the library
Or referenced: Leave the images in the folder outside the Aperture library.
This is controlled by the "Store Files" settings in the Import panel:
If you did not set "Store files" to "In the Aperture Library", the originals will stay in the folder outside.
The error message you get, suggests that Aperture assumes the original files are in a folder outside the library.
Select one of your images in the Browser and use the command "File > Show in Finder" - is this command available or dimmed out?

  • Can I reconnect old Render Files?

Couldn't find a posting directly addressing this. I apologize in advance if it has been covered a thousand times. Here's my post.
I've opened a FCP 6.0.3 project that has a sequence edited with the AJA 10bit uncompressed codec. Because I did not have this codec on my computer I changed the sequence codec to BlackMagic 8bit. The worse part is I accidentily saved the project. THAT'S when I realized that I could have installed the AJA codec and then been able to use the Render Files associated with that sequence. So, now I can open the sequence just fine, but of course I have to re-render the entire sequence.
*Is it not possible to reconnect previous render files (after saving the project)?*

Because what FCP typically does is throw the unreferenced render files into the trash. So they are most likely gone.

  • Can't import XDCAM files(.mov) in Premiere for Windows

    Hello.
I have some problem using XDCAM file in Premiere Pro.
Actually I captured the XDCAM file(.mov) from MovieRecorder, which is the ingest software for Mac..(http://www.softron.tv/products/movierecorder.html)
The XDCAM file is opened in Premiere Pro for Mac.
And  I can play the file in QuickTime player for Win but I can't import the file in Premiere for Windows.
How can I import the XDCAM(.mov) recorded from Mac in Premiere Pro for Windows?
Do I have to install any codec or program?
Please let me know any advice.
    Best regards,

    Any suggestions would be appreaciated.
They have a website with support and a forum.  https://www.videocopilot.net/products/action2/
    Looks like cool stuff.
They list compatability with Premier Elements.  Perhaps if you post a request there, you will find someone that has been down the road before you with the combination of the two products.   They may also need to know if an adjustment is necessary for PrE11.
    Good luck!

  • XDCam files cannot be opened.

I've got a collection of XDCam files (shot on a Sony EX3).  I can't seem to open them in FCP7 or X, or in Compressor, or in MPEG Streamclip, or with ClipWrap.  All these apps say something like 'Error trying to open source media file'.
But I can open them with the VLC Player.  And they play fine in the VLC Player.
I don't have the original metadata folders, only the .MP4 files.  I'm trying to think of a work around.  I just want to open them and convert them to ProRes.  I'm wondering if someone could suggest another app, or some way I could get these opened in an app that can convert them.
    All ears,
    Ben

    Thank you Russ,
Very useful.  I've got a bunch of XDCam formats to deal with.  Premiere seemed to read the files painlessly.  And I just remembered I have Sony's own app for managing XDCam.  And ... I'm going to read over your url suggestion.
    Much appreciated,
    Ben

  • FCPX, How do I reconnect a video file that has been modified or over written?

FCPX, How do I reconnect a video file that has been modified or over written?
As an animator, I am constantly modifying and overwriting movies files that have already been imported into the Final Cut time line. In FCP7, I could easily modify and update movie files and have those changes appear in the timeline without the need to reimport and re-edit those clips, but FCPX seems to lose it's connection with any modified or overwritten file, making all the editing work I've done to these files worthless.
Does anyone know of a way to reconnect to a modified or overwritten file? Because, this one single issue makes FCPX completely worthless to me.

If you import the new clip , select it and drag over the old offline clip , you can choose from the menu ...

  • Reconnect modified source file to project

I faced with a problem - have created large enough project, from not proper framerate source file (what i noticed later). I know that it can't be made simple way, but maybe someone have any ideas - how to reconnect modified source file (with changed framerate ) to project?
    Appreciate any ideas.

Frame rates have to match or it won't work.

  • Transfering XDCAM files into FCE

Is it possible to transfer SONY XDCAM files into FCE, or do you need to have FCP?

The XDCAM Quicktime components are only licensed with Final Cut Pro. It's my understanding that FCE doesn't handle native HD files but transcodes them into the Apple Intermediate Codec.

  • Can FCPX export XDCAM files?

Basically I want to bring in files that are XDCAM, and I want to spit out XDCAM files as a finished product.  I don't need to export to XDCAM discs, but I need XDCAM QT files.  So far I just get ProRes, which is a lovely codec, but won't work in the world I live in.

Wait a seond, you have XDCAM export otpions in FCP.

  • Import XDCAM files (720HD)

Working for the first time in X. I have XDCAM files  on a HD. Importing files results in green images and no sound. How do I import my material. Have tried many ways whithout success.

You cannot import native XDCAM EX - you need XDCAM Browser to convert them to QuickTime files:
