Record a Plug in

I have several plug-ins for Logic that use side-chains as sound sources, such as Turtablist Pro. How can I record the out put of Turtablist on an audio track.
Thanks!

Is your Turntablist plugin on a Software Instrument track?
If you want to record the track/region to audio, solo the track and choose File > Bounce...
If you wish to route the turnablist channel to be used for side chaining purposes, route the output (or create a send) from Turntablist's channel strip to an empty Bus, e.g. BUS 5.
Now a Corresponding AUX track will be created for it in the Mixer.
In any of Logic's plug-ins that have side-chaining capabilities you can use BUS an an input from the side chain menu.
Hope that is what you are asking about.

Its a shame that you cant get the computer to recognise it as a usb microphone, cos then you could use it to record onto the hard dri've.

  • How to record a plug-in modular keyboard ?

    Hi all ,
I just bought logic express 8 an software called Moog modular V ( from arturia ) which is a virtual modular keyboard . The thing is when I' m recording , I also would like to record the changes of sounds I make while playing but it would only record the whole track with the last change I made ( i mean a uniform track with the latest setting whereas I used several ones ) . Any help would change my life .

    Hi Ed,
if you talk of a plugin, it's probably automatable, that means, while recording, enable the "latch" function just above the volume fader in the channelstrip. After recording, set it to "read". You could also use "write", but be advised this overwrites all existing automation. "Latch" only changes the parameters that you change. "Touch" only changes them until you let go on the controls and then resets them to the value they had before.

  • Plugging power cord while recording music - zero input

This is a strange problem when recording music via an interface:
When I am recording sound (Amadeus Pro) via a bus-powered firewire-S/PDIF-interface having my 2012 MBA on battery, and during recording I plug in the power cable, there is a complete zero input for one second or so (shown as -infin dB). Sometimes it goes with digital artefacts. Sometimes this also happens when doing other commands while recording.
    Possible reeasons:
    Core Audio goes down
power for the external interface goes off
I never had this problem with my earlier MBP and SL.
    Anybody?

Hi, Jim. Your guess is exactly correct. The DC-in card to which the port is soldered needs to be replaced. It will probably cost at least a couple of hundred dollars to have a technician replace it, or if you're handy, you can buy a used part and replace it yourself for about half that amount:

  • Digital audio recording

    Hi,
I will be doing some audio-only interviews which I will need backed-up and then transcribed. I won't be using this audio for an actual video piece, but don't want lousy sound. Does anybody have any suggesions about what type of recording device I should use? I heard that Mini-Disk recorders have the best sound, but I don't know how to get the files onto my computer. And wouldn't I need to buy MANY disks which would add up $-wise? What about MP3 recorders? How's the sound? Do any interface with Macs? And how would I break up any LONG tracks (over 80 minutes) to move onto CDs?
    Thanks for your advice!
    Eve

Last summer I did a bunch of "man-on-the-street" interviews for a documentary I was shooting. I borrowed an hhb minidisc recorder and plugged a very high-quality Sennheiser broadcast hand-held mic into it.
The whole thing was about the size of a standard-size hardcover book. Only weighed a couple of pounds, too.
I was stunned at the excellent quality of the results. This rig plugged right into the Firewire port on my Mac, and I just dragged the audio files over via Finder copy on to my working hard drive.
The audio files opened right up in my audio editor app. i was able to up-rez them, EQ and tweak them, and then bring them right into FCP. It was very straight forward.
For some of the interviews that were done with video as well as audio, I recorded the audio on the minidisc and wild sound on the camcorder. For sync we just used the time-honored method of shooting a clapboard slate at the from of each segment. Worked great!
I guess this is what radio news guys are using these days for location recording.
However, I agree with the previous poster who emphasized that using a good mic, and putting it in the correct position relative to the subject, is probably 70% of the solution. Regardless of what medium you use to record the audio. Proper technique is always almost everything.
    Good luck.

  • Transfering records to CD HELP!

I have been using Logc 7 for some time to transfer records to CD (I have my record player plugged into the mic port of my Fire wire 410, then import the record as audio)
Here's the problem: When the record imports into Logic, it literally becomes one giant audio track which I then have to manually scan through and cut into into pieces in order to create separate tracks to burn to a CD. Is there a setting or some way that I can program Logic to switch to a new audio track to record to after a few seconds of silence? In essence, I am trying to have Logic recognize the different tracks on the record via the silence between tracks on the record. Ideally, Logic would then start recording onto a new audio track so that each track would automatically be divided for me.
Is this possible? Thanks a lot everyone!

No... Logic is simply recording. It doesn't evaluate what your are recording as to whether it is useful or not. What I usually do when I am trasferring some cassettes to CD is record the whole side and then bring it into WaveBurner and add the track markers there. I then burn the CD with the established tracks.

  • Recording with M-Audio Fast Track  USB Audio Interface

New Mac owner and am completely lost. I am wanting to record guitar and vocal tracks into GB and when I plugged in the M-Audio I could see a wave file when after I hit the record button but I couldn't hear anything. I selected it as the default for input and output and turned the monitor on...but am getting zero sound. HELP!

I actually just picked one up and this is what the process is...
I must reiterate the first line... Do not install any of the packaged software as it does not help, or do anything beneficial... just use Garageband.
This is to record a plug in guitar.
IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO LOAD ANY DISCS THAT COME WITH THE DEVICE
    1. Connect M-Audio Fast Track USB to appropriate USB port on computer.
ex. MacBook Pro - use forward port (port furthest away from display)
Also, see note 2 for M-Audio knowledge base, support etc...
    2. Open System Preferences and:
-Select M-Audio Fast Track USB icon
-Select "About" button and note Audio Firmware version
-Select "Updates" to open M-Audio web site
-Select: USB Audio Series<Fast Track USB< MAC OS 10.5.7 (or appropriate operating system)
-Note version number of latest drive and download if
    necessary to update your M-Audio
    - Select "Sound" in Hardware row of System Preferences
-Select "Input" button and select M-Audio Fast Track USB
    - No need to change "Output" regardless of how you want to listen to playback!
    3. Connect guitar to M-Audio box (a pre-amp will boost output, but is not necessary)
    - Make sure button on rear of M-Audio box is selected properly for guitar
    4. Open Garage Band (Do Not open Garage Band prior to connecting M-Audio)
    - Select New Project - Electric Guitar
    5. Open Garage Band Preferences
    - Select "Audio/MIDI" button
    -Audio Output select:
    - "Built-in Output" to use computer's speaker or headphones/speakers connected directly to computer OR
    - "M-Audio Fast Track USB" to listen to headphones/speakers
connected directly to M-Audio box (use Mix knob and Output knob on front of M-Audio box to control ouput if choosing this set-up)
    -Audio Input select:
    -"M-Audio Fast track USB"
    6. Choose an Amp model in Garage Band
    - Double-click picture of amp (this displays rear picture of amp and access to settings)
-Select: Input Source : Mono2(M-Audio Fast Track USB) NOT MONO 1!
of if using Mic and guitar : Stereo2 (M-Audio Fast Track USB)
    7. Record
This saved me from throwing the thing out the window... It works well now!

  • Problem recording and playb

I have an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro soundcard. I have been using Cubasis to record music with. I was accustomed to plugging my guitar cable and microphone into the input named "Line 2/Mic 2." It worked forever and it recorded fine. After taking a break from recording, I plugged in my microphone, and with all settings up and the "Line 2/Mic 2" input activated on Cubasis, I got alot of feedback and a very faint recording. I went in and saw that the setting on Creative had that input muted. I thought my problem was solved. I turned it up but I still had the same results. I used to be able to plug the mic in and talk through the speakers but not anymore. Any ideas or suggestions?Message Edited by bwbucs23 on 2-2-2005 04:56 AM

    Shadowing,
This is just a thought as I don't feed guitar into my sound card, but I do use an external mixer. But I'm wondering if you're going over-voltage on the sound card inputs when you crank up the volume on the mixer. SB cards are only meant to take in 2v RMS. What happens if you turn the volume up high enough to cause the crackling and then turn it down very gradually to where the crackling stops? The big question then, of course, is whether it's still loud enough to hear. Like I said, it's just a thought.

Hey, Guy's Do any of you get Static noise when playing the guitar and singing . I have my guitar and my mic pluged into a mixer and then pluged from the mixer to the external amp on my eliete pro xfi. It records fine but its real faint. Soonas I turn everything up to make it loud its all crackling and distorted. sounds bad, real bad. Any one else have this problem. Also i noticed i had this same problem before I even had the mixer just pluging my guitar into the external amp and recording and it would do that.

  • I want to record my guitar and voice

    First post!
So I've got an acoustic-electric guitar that I've been recording in GarageBand 3 on my MacBook Pro. I record by plugging my guitar into into the audio in line using a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter.
Basically, I want to be able to record both my guitar and my voice at the same time. I already have a Memorex MKA301.
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000AHSAM/ref=sr111/103-7498225-6408650?%5Fencoding=UTF8
I know that this microphone is kinda cheap so I may want to get a new one of those too.
I'm looking for some info as to what my options are and what everybody would recommend.
I'm aware that there is the M-Audio FastTrack Recording Interface for $99.95 but it seems that it got several bad reviews on the Apple Store.
Then there is also the M-Audio FireWire 410 Audio/MIDI Interface for $399.95 (but I can find it for around $250). I was kinda leaning towards this one, but wanted too hear some opinions first.
Could anyone out there give me some advice on what I should use. All I really need is something that is reasonably priced and will record well. I may want to add other instrument tracks later so that's why I was thinking about the 410.
Any information you could provide me with or any link to helpful sites or products would be greatly appreciated.
(Note: I just became a Mac person about 1 month ago, so I'm still learning)
15" MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   2 GHz Intel Core Duo, 1 GB SDRAM

I had a fast tracks usb and it worked great and at $99 it is well worth it. But if you plan on recording vocal and guitar you will need a XLR plug on your mic because it only has two inputs 1/4 and XLR.
Also you don't need a multichannel interface to record multiple tracks, only multiple tracks at the same time.
If your doing all the instruments yourself the fast track or fast track pro may be a good idea for now and then when you need it upgrade to a more expensive firewire interface.
And make sure whatever you get will work with your intel mac.
I just read some of the negative comments about the fast track usb. I don't think some of these people know what there doing. Comments like it only records on the left channel shows user error.

  • Audigy 2 ZS Platinum - can't record from front panel "mic-

I'm using an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum. I have an electric guitar plugged into the "mic-in" port on the front panel. I can hear the guitar through my speakers but I can't record from any program. I've tried using "Creative Wave Studio" and XP's "Sound Recorder" but it doesn't record.
I can record by plugging a microphone into the back mic-in port.
This is very frustrating, please help
    --Dan

First is to set the Recording device to MIC2. The front panel device is considered the second microphone. Basically whatever program you use, I would assume it has to recognize this second microphone. Make sure you ahve it selected under the sound mixer (task bar Icon) "Line in 2/Mic 2" underneath "REC" on far right side. Then you can go from there.
    |)O( Try this, if not use the old Hamer to Front of PC method, lol.

  • Are there any other ext. soundcards better than SB Live! for recording?

    Hi everyone,
About a year or so ago, I purchased the Soundblaster Live! 24-bit external
    I record from
Guitar --> Amp--> SB Live! --> Adobe Audition
The tones I get are decent I guess, but I have found that my tone gets stripped down from what I am hearing from the amp. The sound out of the amp will sound crisp, but once I record into audition and playback, it sounds very choppy and dry.
My question is, is this the best or are there other ext. soundcards that can get me a better tone?
Also, when I record, I plug into line-in in the soundcard, and in adobe, I select the soundcard and record from there. Are there any configurations I should try to see if I can get a better tone? Thanks everyone for your help.

Alright great thanks, I will look into those.
I am a noobie when it comes to cards sorry.
How does my SB Live! compare to the X-Fi Elite Pro? That seems to be external, yet it also has the PCI card in which you would have to install it into the computer right? How does that work?
And also how does my SB Live! compare to the Audigy 2 ZS?
    Thanks for the help.
I am looking at the M-Audio Revolution 7.1 PCI Surround Recording Card from Musiciansfriend, it was the best rated. and I was wondering can I install that on a Dell Inspiron 9100 Laptop or do I need the card that is specialized for a laptop?Message Edited by oldspice891 on 09-02-2006 02:38 AM
X-Fi Elite Pro is a PCI type soundcard w/ external I/O console so, you can't use it w/ a laptop. M-Audio Revolution cards, 5.1 and 7.1 are PCI type soundcards too (here are USB/FirewWire models listed). The only Creative SB Audigy 2 laptop models are Audigy 2 ZS Notebook (PCMCIA) and Audigy 2 ZS Video Editor (USB) and Audigy 2 NX (USB). You find technical information for those from Creative web. The Notebook model is the only from those that has ASIO support (other supports ASIO through WDM/KS wrappers (like USB-ASIO (~50US$) and Asio4All (freeware) drivers)
W/ laptop you can use only USB, FireWire and CardBus/PCMCIA audio devices.
There are not many CardBus/PCMCIA cards available, and the only low budget PCMCIA card is Audigy 2 ZS Notebook. E-MU has two excellent models 1616 and 1616M but the prices are much higher than Aydigy has. Other available CardBus/PCMCIA cards are ECHO Indigo (two models) and couple (expensive) Digigram models.
As FireWire (IEEE1394) interface, there are models starting from around 100US$ (Behringer), but I would rather recommend devices around 300-450US$ (there are many excellent models w/ and/or w/o mic pre-amps, etc.). FireWire type devices are better from USB devices because of lower CPU consumption and faster throughput. Also w/ 3rd party drivers you can connect/use several FireWire audio devices simultaenously.
An USB device is perhaps the cheapiest way to go. There are plenty of models available so you just need to place your requirements and find the one.

  • Video out problem with Dynex 32" 720p TV

Hi folks.  I bought my new Dynex TV a few days before New Years.  It's great, really sharp, and I've had no problems with it.  However, I do have a DVD recorder so I can record my games.  Tonight, I attempted to use the A/V output on my TV and connected them to my DVD recorder (which plugs into my computer).  I clicked "capture" and got an error telling me that a connection could not be established and that I should double check my cables.  I could hear the audio playing through my laptop speakers just fine.  I couldn't see the video, for some reason .
It's not the cables, I just took them off of my old TV to use them here.
What can I do?  Should I return my TV?

What about output from a gaming console, like a PS3? Is that only digital sources or does it matter how the PS3 is connected to the television to determine if's its a digital or analog signal?  Right now I get no output when I try to send the video of my PS3 to my composite video in on my computer's TV tuner card.

  • Replacement macpro, time machine won't back up bcs file is too large

In June I purchased a replacement macpro as the other one died. (allergic to water) When I set up the new macpro from my TC everything worked great and haven't had any issues since. However I just realized that I never turned Time Machine back on so I don't have any backups since June. I turned time machine on and it wants to back up the entire drive of the new macpro but there isn't enough room on the TC drive.
I would like to keep all the old backups on the TC but I don't know how or if I can do that. If not how can I go about clearing the TC so my macpro can get backed up?
(Full disclosure -  I have only been a mac user for a few years so I am not too savy in figuring out what to do and more importantly what NOT to do!)

If you are really not going to use the old TM backups.. but just want to keep them as historical record.. plug in a suitable sized USB hard drive and use the archive utility in the TC to backup everything there. You can then disconnect that drive and store it somewhere safe suitably labelled.
Then proceed to wipe the existing tc drive and start the backups again.
Note there are million variations on this.
With what hard disks cost at the moment due to short supply it is cheaper sometimes to buy a new TC.. and store the old one. Also depends on how old the original TC is and the size of its hard disk, if it wouldn't be better to make the backup as described above.. ebay the old TC and get a new one.
Read the details in Pondini's excellent knowledgebase.
Particularly about moving or storing old backups.
    http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
Time Machine has some strange behaviour it what it keeps and what it wipes itself.. so it is well worth being aware of what it does and doesn't do.
Being a Mac user myself for a very short time.. and consider myself less than expert in even the most narrow field.. except that I repair TC's and have done a lot of them. So much so that I find it hard to trust them. Always have another backup.. a clone of the disk as it is right now.. backed up somewhere safe.. using a cloner software which are available even free, using a firewire drive hanging off your mac pro.. or even with all the extra space you have inside it.. shove the disk inside and do an internal backup.. but exclude it from TM so it isn't backing up the backup.
