Record audio Left channel mono playback

I'm new to Captivate and setting up a microphone for recording audio.  Recording equipment is a single microphone into an E-Mu 0404 USB interface.  The interface has 2 mic inputs.  The mic is plugged into the left channel.  Sound is recorded fine, but only plays back on the left channel.  How can I get the single channel treated as mono so playback is on both ears?
Thanks

Hi there
Assuming you can do so, perhaps consider a Y connector that makes the mic feed into both channels.
Also, report this to Adobe as I've seen many posts here regarding stereo and only hearing one channel.

  • Adobe Audition 3.0 only records in left channel

Greetings!  I've got a Blue Yeti Pro mic hooked into an ART Tube MP Project Series USB pre-amp/interface (using XLR connection from mic - USB to computer).  When I record voice in Audition 3.0 it only records on the left channel for some reason.  I thought it might be the mic or preamp, so I downloaded Audacity to double-check with another program.  With Audacity I got a perfect 2-channel mono recording.  Any help on why Audition 3.0 is only recording on left channel would be appreciated.  I'm stumped.  Thanks!  Cheers!  mrc

As you are only using one mic then, as you say, you should be able to record it in mono. Audition defaults to stereo so if you want to record a mono source you have to make sure that you have the mono input for your USB interface selected as source, not the default stereo one. Usually Audition list the stereo sources first in the hardware set up panel, so you need to scroll down the list of inputs to find the mono ones. Stereo ones are called something like Art 1 &2 S etc. and the mono ones Art 1 M and Art 2 M.
Normally when recording a mono source it needs to be saved as a mono file using only one track, not as Audacity does which records a mono source onto two tracks and saving a stereo file which takes twice as much storage space.

  • Route audio left channel to mono master

Our videographer records all audio to the left channel only, which leaves the right channel empty. Is there any way to route only the left channel to both the left and right master, or to route only the left channel to a mono output?

  • Audio Left Channel is absent in app-specific instance

    Hi, All:
I was just advised that this topic belongs here in the MSDN forums, so moved the topic from the Community. I am not sure that this particular forum is the correct one. If not, please advise where to put this question.
    Here is my original question:
I have created an application (in Delphi) which uses audio output, but recently discovered that the left channel is missing. There is nothing in my program that would do this.
To further test this application, I did the following:
    1. Used the Windows PlaySound command to output a simple WAV file. I moved this line to the top most part of the program before anything else was created or intialized.
    2. This wav plays immediately on launching the program, but as with the rest of the program (which using SAPI, text2speech), the left audio channel is absent.
    3. If I move the program (profviewer.exe) to another location than where the application is installed, the left channel returns.
    4. If I change the name of the program to e.g. "test.exe" the left channel returns.
    5. On my Win7 systems, if I changed the name from "profviewer.exe" to "test.exe" then ran the application to the initial password dialog then cancelled, then rechanged the name from "test.exe" back to "profviewer.exe"
I discovered that this audio channel anomaly was corrected.
    6. On my Win8.1 system, changing the name of the app as in #5 did not fix the audio channel problem.
My guess is that there is some application specific registry setting that controls this. Could you tell me where to look for this so I can fix those systems with Win8.1? Or failing that is there some other work around that I could apply to get the
    left channel audio back?
    Thank you,
    Chuck Belanger

    Hi, Matthew:
Here is the output of Meters.exe from a user with Win8.1 and who has no left audio channel in the program (Profviewer.exe). Hope this helps to fix this head scratching issue.

  • Zoom R16 as interface - only recording to left channel

So I'm a relative noob, teaching myself.  I'm using a Zoom R16 as an audio interface to record vocals into Audition CC using a Heil PR40 mic.  I'm getting a recording, but it's only doing so in the left channel in Audition.  I've tried it both setting up the track in stereo and mono, to no effect. What am I doing wrong?

Very good.  Was able to do it in a multitrack session by clicking on the "Sum To Mono" button.  Thanks!  I've always just recorded my podcast directly into the Zoom, then transferred it over via the card, but I'm trying to set my system up to be able to record interviews via Skype, so I'm using it as an interface now.  Right on!  I'm sure I'll have more questions as I continue through this process!

  • Audio - left channel only

I have 1 Audio Channel. It is panned to the center '0', but is still only coming through the left speaker. How do I balance it to come out of both speakers?
    Thanks.

if your audio track is panned to center, then the problem is with the speakers or the speaker jack on the computer. You can look in the system preferences for the computer and make sure the balance isn't set to one side or the other. But you already did the only think you can do in FCP to have audio come out of both speakers. Check an iTunes song, or some other audio, and see if THAT comes out of both speakers.

  • Help I only get a mono audio in the left channel now

I am only getting a left channel mono sound when rendering
My videos with iMovie on my iPod Touch 4g 32 gb.
My first iMovie came out fine with multiple clips and all in stereo
I can find no help on the issue.

They are either linked and/or a stereo pair.   If you see the name of the clip underlined they are linked...press "Command + L".  The undeline should go away.  If you see arrows on the clips pointing to one another then that is a stereo pair.  Press "Option + L" and the triangles should go away.   You can then use "Command + L" to relink you video with your audio...if you so choose.

  • Detaching audio converts to mono

hi. my video clip has stereo audio. it plays fine until i detach the audio, then for some reason imovie 09 converts it to left channel/mono. i know i can stick it in garageband and double up the track to make it seem like sterero, but...
why does this happen and how can i fix it?
the workaround on every. single. clip. would become rather annoying

if detaching the audio results in left channel only, covert the clip before detaching the audio

  • Separating left channel and right channel

My composer needs a QT file that requires the following:
    1. h.264 compression (for upload)
Audio: Left channel temp music / Right channel DIA/Vo/SFX
HOW DO I SEPARATE THE CHANNELS?

duplicate your sequence (you can always get back if you mess up)
in the dupe sequence, if your channels are now stereo, highlight the track, press option L (lower case) to make them mono. in your sequence settings define the audio outputs to be 2 mono. control click in the track near the on/off button and assign channels to either 1 or 2.

  • Premiere Elements 13 (not Pro), recorded a video with mono mic input (left channel only), need to create 2-channel (left and right) audio track for finished product. Help?

The question says it all. I have been all over the tutorials as well as the menus inside Premiere 13 and cannot find how to edit the audio track beyond basic balance, volume, etc.
I can see the Audio 1 track, shows audio in left channel only, but it will not respond to attempts to select, cut/copy, paste, etc.
Basically I just want to turn one-channel audio into two-channel audio.

Sure you do not want to give the Fill Left and Fill Right another try?
According to the Adobe document Adobe Premiere Elements Help | Effects reference
    Fill Left, Fill Right
The Fill Left effect duplicates the left channel information of the audio clip and places it in the right channel, discarding the original clip’s right channel information. The Fill Right effect duplicates the right channel information and places it in the left channel, discarding the existing left channel information. For example, you might use this effect on footage shot with a monaural microphone plugged into only one channel of a camcorder, extending the voice of a speaker from one channel to both.
From what you wrote, your Premiere Pro video seems to be saying the same.
If that Premiere Elements Fill Left or Fill Right is no go, you might want to explore what you can do in this regard using the free audio editor Audacity.
Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder
And, then import the Audacity edited audio back into Premiere Elements project as source media.
    Is the speaker system OK?
We will be watching for your results.
    Thanks for the follow up.

  • Recording with M Audio Firewire, Mono Left to Mono Right

I have recorded my audio tracks through an M Audio Firewire Solo into LogicPro. The tracks are showing up mono even though I selected stereo when I created them in Logic. So I tried to duplicate the track and Pan Left and Right, but both tracks are only coming out of the left channel. (When I pan right they go silent) Can I bump the track to the right? How do I get the signal to transmit out of the right channel. Do I have to re-record differently?
    Message was edited by: SarahSweetie

The tracks are showing up mono even though I selected stereo when I created them in Logic.
What were you recording? Generally speaking, if you are recording a single source, like a vocal, that vocal goes into one input, and you should record to a mono track. On playback, that mono track panned centrally comes out of the centre of your speakers.
So I tried to duplicate the track and Pan Left and Right, but both tracks are only coming out of the left channel. (When I pan right they go silent)
When you pan the track right, do you still get a level showing in the right hand meter in Logic's main output channels? If so, but you are not hearing the right side, you most likely have your interface connected up wrong somehow.
If you can be more specific in what you were recording, and how you have things connected up, we can see if we can fix the issue... it doesn't sound like you are doing anything particularly wrong, so I'm guessing it's more of a setup issue...

  • How to set audio instruments to record in left and right channels

I am a new Logic express user. I am using a PreSonus FireWire to in put guitars and mic's. If I use Logic Express to record my guitars from input 1 I only get sound out of the right channel. If I use input 2 I only get sound out of the left channel. If I use the Garage Band tab to input the same instruments plugged into either channels 1 or 2 on my PreSonus I get sound from both the left and right channels together. There must be a simple fix I am missing in Logic. If anyone can help me I would I would appreciate it.

    Hi t,
    welcome to the forum!
There's nothing wrong with your set-up!
    MONO inputs to mono tracks,
from the mono track you can add mono to stereo plug-ins and benefit from that.
In garage band you have a mono input that showing a stereo channel, that's what what I have explain above. In Logic it's a blody waste of HD space (not to say wrong) as you recording a mono file to stereo.
Think bigger and pratical now T, those things make all the sence,
GB is so easy that can confuse us about the real thing because it's hidden from your eyes.
    Kindly regards,
    Jorge

  • CAPTURE AUDIO MIXES LEFT CHANNEL TO MONO

Everytime I capture now, or batch, or capture a single logged clip, the stereo audio comes in as mono, using only the left channel. The right channel audio is lost.
I searched the postings, and found this was happening with a lot of people, not just FCP 5.1 HD, but with FCE, too. No resolution or fix as far as I could see.
Anyone know how to correct this major bug? I really need stereo audio!
    Thanks,
    Norris

After a lot of research, and NO help from calling Apple tech support, I finally determined this (which has to do with HD/1080i/60 only -- I am not sure about NTSC settings):
In the Clip Settings tab, in "Log and Capture" (in HD) there is a little box next to the simulated VU audio levels meters. Click that box. It should toggle on/off two little lines that combine audio channel 1 and audio channel 2. When the little lines are there, that is STEREO. WHen they are not, in my FCP 5, it mixes both tracks to mono from channel 2 (Left).
As for your other question -- yes, you can manually go into the logs and change the settings, and then recapture.
a pain this is, huh? And no written mention of it in any manual.
NOW - as for previewing the audio while logging and capturing? I still cannot do that and have been waiting two (2) weeks for a reply from an Apple tech support guy who was supposed to be researching this for me.
