Record Cassettes to computer?

I have macbook pro. and I want to record my old cassettes to my computer. I know I can use my headphone port with a mini jack but I dont know what wires connect to what between the casstte deck and my computer. Can anyone help with REALLY easy instructions?
Thanks,
Jillllee

There are two elements that you will need.  One is the connecting hardware.  You will need a 'Y' connector with a 3.5 mm plug at one end for the MBP and the two RCA audio jacks for the output from the cassette deck.  This is an example:

In addition, you will need the appropriate software.  Not an endorsement of same but as an example:

I used Spin Doctor that was bundled with Toast 8.

Here's a stupid question for you guys who know what you're doing. How do I access or find this "MediaSource Organizer" that will allow me to record cassette tapes onto my hard dri've? I bought a new computer and had the manufacturer install an SBAudigy sound card for me and as such I'm not exactly sure which one I have but I stipulated that I wanted the capability to download cassette tapes onto my hard dri've. The only file I have found related to the sound card is one called "Creative" in the "Program Files" of my C: dri've. Further digging reveals various icons marked "Audigy", "SBAudigy", "InterVideo" but none of them, when clicked upon, open up into any kind of a useful program. I do have the "InterVideo" icon on my desktop but thorough searching of this program has not revealed any options for recording outside sounds onto the hard dri've. I also have "Windows Media Center" for Windows XP. Any enlightenment on how I can record cassette tapes onto my computer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
    Jeremy D.

Can I transfer files from my ICD-BX132 recorder to my computer and if so how?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Please follow the steps below on how to transfer a recording from an Integrated Chip (IC) recorder with no USB port to the computer:
Using a mini plug cable, plug one end of the cable to the Headphone jack on the IC recorder.
Plug the other end of the cable into the Microphone jack on the computer.
Open the Sound Recorder window and then click record.
If using Windows® XP operating system:
Click the Start button, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to Entertainment, and clickSound Recorder.
Verify the sound level is turned on by clicking on the volume icon from your taskbar. If the volume control is set to MUTE, you will not be able to record anything.
Click the Record [FIG. 1] icon.
If using the Windows Vista® or Windows 7 operating system:
Click the Start button, click All Programs, click Accessories, and then click Sound Recorder.
Verify the sound level in the Volume Mixer by clicking on the volume icon from your taskbar. If the volume mixer is set to MUTE, you will not be able to record anything.
Click the Start Recording [FIG. 2] button.
Press PLAY on the IC recorder to start the playback of the messages to be recorded on the computer.

  • Record/Rip old vinyl/turn table records, cassette tapes, etc.?

    Hello.
How easy, cheap, and quick is it to record/rip old vinyl/turn table records, cassette tapes, etc. to iTunes, iPods, and iPhones on a MacBook Pro (2008's Mac OS X 10.5.8 and 2012's Mac OS X 10.8.4)? Does it need special audio adapters, cables, etc.? Without driver support I hope since it would be used a lot and for a long time.
    Thank you in advance.

I have seen iMic at Best Buy before. Not as a regular stock item thoug.
I actually got mine at Radio Shack a few years ago for $10.
Oooh, RadioShack. I forgot that one, but no luck. Best Buy has it online, but it requires an online order. Bah!

  • Recording sound from computer?

Ok so I have a file that is .vrf (Ventrilo sound) and Sb doesn't open it. But if i play the sound can Sb record it off the computer (via Stereo Mix)? I know Audacity will record sounds off my computer, but i was wondering if Sb would. and if so how?
    Thanks!

    >>What settings? In the toolbar settings or IE7's settings?<<
It's in the "Freecorder" toolbar (mine shows near the top of IE) and is an icon located there for Freecorder's "Settings".  On my installation, it's the second icon from the right end of the toolbar and is located between the "bell" ("Record and Auto-Tag MP3's ...") and the right-facing 'arrow (the "Play" icon). The "Settings icon" looks like two opposite-facing maracas.
Click this Settings icon and a window will pop up.  In its upper-left corner you'll see three places that allow you to place/click a "check mark".  I've put a check in the top line which says "Record From Freecorder Audio Driver", and it has worked well for me.  (Note that in this "Settings window" you can also set the "Recording Destination", the "Output Format", and time at which you want the program to "Prompt for a filename".)
What I do is: 1) click the red "Record" icon in Freecorder's toolbar, 2) start playing the music source so I can hear it out of the speakers, and 3) when it's done playing, save the file.
Hope this helps a little more.

  • Recording tape to computer?

Need help in trying to record old cassette tapes into my laptop - macbook pro circa 2011.
There is no input port other than USB!
Question . . . is there an audiocable (3.5mm) to USB?
Does it need an audio interface?
    Then . . . if they exist . . . how do I do it?
    Thanks.

If you have a 2011 17"/15" MBP use the audio input port.  If you have a 13", use the 3.5 mm audio port set as an audio input in System Preferences.
You will need third party software.  I used Spin Doctor which was good enough to do the job despite some stability issues.
You will also need a RCA/3.5 mm connector (this is an example, not an endorsement):

  • Recording tv into computer somehow....?

    hello.
This may be a rediculous, amateur question, but is it possible to record tv into a computer?
Not necessarily live, but even a feed from a VCR while playing a pre-recorded tape.
Basically, what I'm trying to do, is be able to watch a previously recorded show without having to be home.......at my leisure, on my lap top.
I'm an avid sports fan, and I tape many games, and I just never have the time to watch them at home. But away from home, I always find a few hours of down time, and it would be awesome to have the games on my lap top in some kind of format.......
    thank you.

If you have recorded these in an analogue way (as most older VCRs do) then you'll need a gadget to convert it to a digital format when you want it on your laptop. There are various to choose from, including dedicated bits of harware for the job as well as some digital camcorders.
If you use something like eyeTV then you can record direct to a hard drive anyway and it is all digital - you can view the footage as and when you ahve time by using your laptop.
Finally, if you record on a DVD recorder then the footage can be stored on a DVD and you can watch it whenever you like... !

  • Recording Narration With Computer Mic?

    Hey,
I am trying to record a narration. I bring up the window, but it does not seem to register my computer mic, although my computer mic is working.
Do you have to attach another mic to the computer to record?
The screen just doesn't light up. I can't press the record button or anything. Even when I click the mic source button, nothing comes up.

Bill is correct that I can narrate with my Logitech Webcam Pro 9000. But it 'just worked' from the moment I plugged it in (and that was to a hub, not directly to the PC) so the only tip I can offer is to check your camera vendors site to see if they have updated drivers. You could even try installing an older driver as sometimes the one vendors include in their supplied software can be faulty.
    Cheers,
    Neale

  • I am recording from my computer screen with an elgato game capture card.  Why is the video blurry when I import it to Premiere elements?

I am recording my computer screen with an elgato game capture card.  When I play the unedited footage on my own computer, it is clear and crisp.  When I import the footage into premiere elements, it becomes blurry.  It becomes even blurrier when I save the edited video.  How do I keep the video clear?  How do I fix it?

    Thanks for the reply.
Please check out John T. Smith's information.
At this point, if you could tell us the file extension of the file involved, that would give us a start while you are
gathering the rest of the details.
You can easily get some information for us from Properties for your imported video that is blurry in the Editor.
    1. Click on Expert to get into the Expert workspace of Premiere Elements 13
    2. If you have not already, import your file into the program using Add Media/Files & Folder/Project Assets.
    3. Open Project Assets to see a thumbnail for the video that you just imported. Right click that thumbnail,
and select and click on Properties from the menu that opens.
    4. Tell us what is listed there is Properties - it should look something like this one which is specific for one of my wmv files.
Your information will be specific to the file that you right clicked in your Project Assets.
From what you have written so far, yours should show
    Image Size 1920 x 1080
Frame Rate either 59.94 or 60
Also, please go to Edit Menu/Project Settings/General, and tell us what you see for
    Editing Mode
    Timebase
    Frame Size
    Pixel Aspect Ratio
even if the fields look grayed out.
Your project settings may be contributing your Edit area previewing problems.
All of the above will keep us moving forward in the troubleshooting.
    Thanks.

  • Recording cassette tape to iMac

    Hi there!
I am trying to convert a cassette player into digital form through QuickTime.  Whenever recording it sounds great except for an annoying echo.  Any tips on how to alleviate this??
    Thanks!

Right now I am plugging a cassette tape player into my iMac using a 3.3mm audio cable.  I'm plugging it into the "Line In" port.  I am then hitting play on the tape player and recording a new audio file in QuickTime.  I've also tried this in GarageBand.  In both programs the audio sounds pretty good except for an annoying echo.  I'm hoping there is a way to eliminate the echo.
    Thanks!

  • Record cassette tape to

I see a post for this for the Audigy 2ZS PlatinumPro. Is it possible to copy cassette tape to my PC with just plain old Soundblaster Audigy 2ZS ?
    Thanks in advance

    Young88,
Just run the tape line-out into the line-in jack on the Audigy 2 ZS and select it as the recording source and there should be no problem with doing this.

  • Recording Cassette Tape - Dolby B & C  Question

    Hi,
I am recording speaking voice from a cassette tape that was recorded without Dolby.
I have experimented using Dolby B & C on my tape deck, as I play the cassette, recording it into a Soundtrack Pro project. This reduces the tape hiss quite nicely and does not seem to affect the speaking voice frequency range (80 - 1100 Hz).
The one thing I did notice is that Dolby C seems to "pump" a little, probably due to more of the "ambient" sound (tape hiss) being removed from the pauses.
The Dolby B example seemed to be the best.
I have tried various EQ Effects to reduce the hiss after recording and the result has not been very good.
Of course, after adjusting the amplitude, applying Compressor and Limiter, some of the hiss is made more audible. But, this seems to be just what is going to happen with noise.
Has anyone else done something similar and can offer some suggestions?
    Thanks, Ken

Did you try STP's noise reduction? It does a pretty good thing. Strong equalization does remove the noise, but also clearness and detail in sound. (High frequencies in a voice can easily reach 2000 Hz). Dolby playback on a non-dolby recording is like using a preset filter, I would only EQ manually, to have more control. With Noise reduction software, you don't have to filter out all high frequencies anymore to get rid of noise.
To use noise reduction in STP:
Open a soundfile in the editor. Click and drag over the wavevorm to create a selection of nothing/noise. Click Process > Set noise print, then undo the selection by clicking once on the wavevorm. Click Process > Reduce noise. In the Popup window you can make adjustments. Play around a little, and you'll be amazed of what it can do..
