Record Chat

Does anyone have an idea why I can not use the record chat function of iChat. Does the other user have to be using iChat? My kids use a PC at home with AIM. I use iChat and talk and see them fine. I can do every other function, but the Record Function is dim and can not be selected. Thanks.

In order to use the built-in recording function, the other person does indeed need to be using Leopard iChat. Fortunately, you can still record anyone using 3rd party software such as iChat Conference Recorder.

Record chat not seen as option in OS X Mavericks Messages when doing video chat

In OS X Mountain Lion when doing a video chat using Messages one can record the video chat. (assuming you have permission by the other party (parties??))
I do not see that option in the "upgraded" OS X Mavericks.
Is the lack of a record video option another "hidden" gem that Apple is providing us by creating "simplicity"?
Or is the feature still somehow accessible thru a more "simple" means other than the way it used to be in OS X Mountain Lion?
So, if Apple has deliberately and secretly removed this feature without telling me do you know of good screen-capture software that I can use as a workaround with regards to this missing feature?

Would like to record chat with my windows friends for podcast

How do I record an AIM audio/video chat to use in a podcast using garage band? I really have tried to figure it out but have had no luck. Thank you!!

The preceding was intriguing and while it was a situation similar to mine, I'm still having a problem using AIM in conjuction with iChat to record a podcast in GB3. (IChat to iChat works fine ...)
Elsewhere on the Net, I've read that iChat-AIM doesn't work -- other places say it work. I need to make it work, ASAP!

We were able to text each other, but could not do audio. He was using an external USB mic, I was using the built-in, just for a test.
What should I see in the iChat buddy list? Should he have a phone icon next to his name? Is it a settings issue? Firewall?
(When he attempted to initiate an audio chat, he received a message to the effect that I was not accepting audio chats.) I understand that I need to be the initiator; however, all I could get to work was text, not audio. There was no green phone icon next to his name. (I see it for Mac users, though.)
If anyone can shed some light onto how I can make this work, thank you!

Record Video in iChat no longer available

Trying to help my Dad with this problem.
He owns a MacBook Air, and recently upgraded to Snow Leopard (now on 10.6.3). Before, in Leopard, he was able to record iChat sessions in "Video-> Record Chat" with the same computer. For some reason, now that option is grayed out.
Under "Video -> Connection Doctor -> Capabilities", it lists "Insufficient CPU" next to "Record Video Chat".
I had him delete all of his iChat preferences in his Home->Library->Preferences folder (which subsequently fixed the problem of me not being able to share his screen). However, it did not fix the record video problem.
Did Apple take out this feature for certain processors with the advent of Snow Leopard? How can he get it back short of taking 10.6 off of his system? Seems very strange to me that this is not working when it used to.

How to record FaceTime calls on a Mac?

My wife is trying to record her FaceTime calls with a friend from across the country. I noticed that Messages has a record chat option under video but whenever I start a FaceTime call it become gray. Am I doing something wrong? How can we record her conversations?

Yes it did!
As you can see on my screenshot, there are checkboxes for both mic and mac audio.
Audio quality is great. By default, it saves the video with both sides of the conversation in one stereo channel. No edit needed. But if you plan to edit the audio later, it's capable of saving two stereo tracks. This way you can achieve great quality video podcasts by turning down the volume of the person which is not talking. If both sides uses microfone and disable noise reduction, you can have the full stream of both sides almost uninterrupted and you can fade from one track to the other on your video editing software.
About capturing the video: You can even record full screen. It works OK on MacbookPro non retina, 8G RAM, 2.7Ghz Core i7 in OSX Mavericks in 30fps, sometimes FaceTime drops the fps and I am not shure if it's the performance or networking problems. I like to record a 800x800 square in 10fps, tho. I believe FaceTime is smart to not stream the full quality video, and usually I get better results. With this setting I also can use iGlasses (another comercial software, works also works on Mavericks) to make fun effects or show videos and still have good performance. I record a square because when people turn the devices FaceTime turns the window too. This way it's never cropped.

Can't record video now in iChat 5

I'm quite new at this - using a logitech camera with the standard iChat v 5 (not sure what AV is) but I know I've recorded a short video before just under Video - Record - I believe. (I have done a clean install since the last time.) Only now the only option is "Record Chat" and is grayed out. I just want to record a video to send for an interview without being in a chat & I'm quite stumped by it now.
This may be an inappropriate board but i didn't see one for iChat5. Any refs or suggestions much appreciated - perhaps I need other software?

1) Is a Video chat open when you looked ?
Some menu items only become active when the "right' window is Open and Front.
2) A possible is that you have Encryption ON.

Saving Video Chats?

Hi all,
I just upgraded to Leopard and I read that you can save video chats using iChat 4. I haven't been able to find anything on how to do this though. I don't know much about video chatting, rarely do it. The other person will be using a PC, and AIM (the webcam is a USB that's compatible with AIM). Will I be able to save chats between us?

When your in a video chat go to video in the menu bar and then click on record chat.
Dont know if it works with a PC on the other end.

Can Ichat audio be recorded?

I'd like to record Ichat conversations and post them as podcasts on my website. Is this possible?

Yes that is possible,
You can start an audio chat with the contact you're going to interview and select:
video from the ichat top menu>select record chat
If you have an audio chat running, this audio chat will be recorded
If you have a video chat running, the video chat will be recorded
The contact you want to interview will see a pop up window that warns the chat session will be recorded if he accepts and agrees that you're recording the chat. A red recording light will appear in the iChat window.
The recorded chat will be saved in iTunes after you stop recording.
If you have iLife's GarageBand you can really have some fun by changing the voice / adding sound effects / leaders and really tweak it into a radio show.
Just open GarageBand, select "new podcast" and drag the recorded iChat file to the the main GarageBand's window.
Upload the Radio podcast to the web by selecting "sharing" from GarageBand's top menu and select:
Upload podcast to iWeb.

As Karsten says, you will certainly get better results and much more convenience with a camcorder.
However, if you decide to use your MacBook, the built-in mic can record audio with your video:
in iChat: iChat > Video > Record Chat records both video and audio.

tells you how to record using your MacBook's built-in iSight (and mic.)
Other movie/video recording apps may work differently, but most allow sound with video.

How to recover a video received in iChat 2 months ago?

I was able to find the chat by searching for it in the Finder but I tried to click on the videos and it just said the video file name. The chat was from January 24, 2015.

Unless you have a version of iChat that can make Saved Videos it does not make them as standard.
The File Menu might list a Recent List broken into two parts (text Chats and A/V Chats).
The Save Chat setting only saves Text Chats.
iChat 5 has Record Chat in the Video Menu (I don't have an OS Version for iChat 6 to Chat)
Messages loses the ability to record and relies on Quicktime X's Screen Record Feature.

Flash 11.3 - Data Stream Playback Skipping

Hi.
I have a tool which is designed to playback interactive audio/text sessions. For example, I record a data stream, sending events which contain the text that was typed into a chat window, so the messages can be replayed exactly how they originally occured.
I have problems with the playback when deploying the swf to a browser, vs running locally from my Flash Pro CS 5.5 software. I'm just trying to play the flv, waiting for the text events so I can display the recorded chat text.
A simple example of a "skipping" problem in the data stream:
1) A 30 second recording is made of text sent into a chat window.
2) Lets say 5 events are sent to the recorded stream, at time values of 6 seconds, 10 seconds, 12, 14, and 22. I.e. those are the time values of the stream when the text messages were sent.
3) Playback with Flash Pro is exactly what I would expect. After calling "Play()", I recieve the messages at the correct times. For example, the first text message event is recieved from the stream 6 seconds after playing it.
The Problem: When deployed to the broweser, the stream playback seems to automatically "skip" to the first event. I.e., there is no 6 second delay between the time the stream is started to the time the first event is recieved. After that, there is the correct time between events (i.e. 4 seconds later the "10 second" event occurs, then 2 seconds later the "12 second" event occurs, on and on...).
The data must be synched up with an audio stream in some cases. This becomes a problem in certain cases, as the "dead space" at the beginning and end of the data stream is seemingly ignored. The data stream is completely separate from audio (not mixed), and it passes the flvCheck (i.e. no errors about timestamps).
This is all done from Action Script 2. I use a timer to monitor the timestamp on the stream. It becomes clear that the swf, when deployed in a browser, simply jum[s to the the timestamp of the first event. When deployed locally, it is clear the steam properly plays the deadspace at the beginning, before sending the recorded event 6 seconds in.
I can workaround the problem by creating a timer on the client side and always send an "init" event one second after I want to start recording. I could get my recordings to work using this dummy event, but it causes addition problems/confusion and I wonder what the problem really is here.

I do not know what is causing Flash Player not to work for non-admin users, but I have seen it getting to work in the past by using the following procedures

I'll cut to the chase. I think my girlfriend is cheating on me. I want to get a software that will record chats, messages, keystrokes and monitor websites that people go to while on my computer. Before I'm you asked, yes I've already asked her if she is cheating and she denis it. But, her behavior seems other wise. I know Microsoft has software for this, but can't find anything that apple sells.

What you are talking about is a clear infringement of civil liberties, and (if you're American) any number of constitutional issues.
Well, surprise, it's completely legal. Large companies use this kind of software all the time to see who is wasting thousands of dollars of the paychecks they get surfing the web for personal use, playing card games on their computer, or whatever else they're doing to waste company time on the company's dollar.
But beyond that, I agree. If the OP is already that concerned about his girlfriend, he may as well call off any type of relationship now.
