Record directly to computer

The program is not recognizing my camera so I can recordt directly to my computer.  I have a Canon HF20 camcorder. any help on this?

Welcome to the forum.
If you mean recording directly to the computer's HDD, rather than tape, or flash memory, I agree with John T. Adobe OnLocation will do that, with most cameras, but is available only with PrPro, and not PrE.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • Recording iphone 4 video directly to computer, as it's recording?

Is there a way to use an iphone (3 or 4) as a video source for recording directly to my computer?
I'd like to use my iphone to record very long videos (1-2 hours), but the video files will be too large for the iphone's memory.  I have Quicktime, Final Cut Pro, iMovie, etc.  Can't seem to get any of these apps to do what I'd like.  Also could not find anything in the App store that would work on a non-jail-broken phone.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks.

No. You will have to get a separate camera if you want to record directly to the computer.

  • MPEG 2 - FCP - Quicktime??  - recording directly to your computer

    Hi,
I am wondering if there is any way to record directly to a Mac in the MPEG 2 format. I own FCP6 and I know it doesn't do it. I don't think Quicktime can do it either. I need to connect my camera (either firewire or analog) to my Macbook Pro and have it record as a MPEG 2. It is for video that must be put on to DVD immediately without any editing.
    Thanks!
    Gary

    Negative.
To record directly to MPEG2 you need a DVD recorder. they're pretty cheap these days, $150.
warning: you most likely will NOT be able to attach your camera's Firewire output directly to the DVD burner.

  • Recording tv into computer somehow....?

    hello.
This may be a rediculous, amateur question, but is it possible to record tv into a computer?
Not necessarily live, but even a feed from a VCR while playing a pre-recorded tape.
Basically, what I'm trying to do, is be able to watch a previously recorded show without having to be home.......at my leisure, on my lap top.
I'm an avid sports fan, and I tape many games, and I just never have the time to watch them at home. But away from home, I always find a few hours of down time, and it would be awesome to have the games on my lap top in some kind of format.......
    thank you.

If you have recorded these in an analogue way (as most older VCRs do) then you'll need a gadget to convert it to a digital format when you want it on your laptop. There are various to choose from, including dedicated bits of harware for the job as well as some digital camcorders.
If you use something like eyeTV then you can record direct to a hard drive anyway and it is all digital - you can view the footage as and when you ahve time by using your laptop.
Finally, if you record on a DVD recorder then the footage can be stored on a DVD and you can watch it whenever you like... !

  • Downloading a Connect recording directly (i.e. not streaming)

According to a public 'Welcome to Connect 9' recorded webinar, one can now download recording directly without having to stream them in real time to the local workstation:
    https://onlineevents.adobeconnect.com/_a655548740/p82otjzrh2h/?launcher=false&fcsContent=t rue&pbMode=normal
(it's in the Q&A section about 2/3 of the way down -- screenshot attached)
However, I cannot find any way to do this. There is still the 'Make Offline' option, but that just starts the local streaming. I tried using 'Edit' first and then clicking 'Save', but that also just started streaming. I also tried using the 'download=zip' URL hack that I'd read about on other sites, but that just saved a zip file full of decompiled Flash bits. I created a short 1 minute recording for testing, and none of the FLV files in the zip download were playable in VLC. I thought maybe Connect Desktop had something, but no direct download was available there either.
    Am I missing something?
    Mike

The checkbox is to allow users with Connect Desktop to "fetch" the recordings to their local computer. That box, along with the Admin option must be turned on to allow the Connect Desktop application to pull recordings down for off line playback.
The download api call has been around for years. It all comes down to applying it appropriately. The documentation on it is in the Web Services guide. For Connect 9 you can view it here: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/connect/9.0/webservices/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d11a171dd0f3-7 fea_SP1.html
The most common use for this function is to make edits to a recording that can't be done in Connect , or, as you stated, to have multiple versions of the same recording on the server allowing you to have them edited differently. You can also assign a custom URL to a recording you upload, so that is a nice bonus.

  • I want to record a vinyl record directly to my iPad from my USB turntable

I just bought a new turntable and I have many old vinyl records. Can I record these records directly to my iPad Air? The turntable has a USB output. I could the audio files into my computer but I prefer to do it directly to the iPad if possible.

If you want to try it, go for it. However videos are imported via the photos app and that only works for photos and videos that follow a very strict naming convention. The reason you get sound on a video is that it's all packaged as the .mp4, .m4v etc of the video file. The connection itself only sees photo and video files. It doesn't see documents and doesn't see audio files. Maybe there's an app out there that does.
one thing to bear in mind, in 2011 Apple changed the amount of power allocated to the port, and available to the camera connection kit (that's what you're seeing that has the USB in) so stuff that worked prior to that sometimes didn't work after.

  • Record directly from camera to  hard drive

Can I record a two hour stage play directly to my MacBook Pro's hard drive (or to an external hd)? Are there any issues that I should be aware of?

You need a camcorder to capture the 2 hour stage play. You can transfer to the computer's hard drive later. There are USB cameras that record directly to the hard drive, but they are low resolution.

  • Recording direct to macbook air

    Hi,
Is there any way to record direct to a macbook air from a video camera.
I've been recording direct to an old powerbook g4 from a canon xl2 for years and recently bought a macbook air.
When I tried the usual set up via an external hard drive I couldn't manage to do it.

Only standard definition can be captured live, and the only SD Final Cut Express does is DV, and you can only capture DV through a FireWire connection. Your computer doesn't have one.

  • Recording directly to external hard drive.

So i have an external hard drive (with fire wire 800) plugged into my laptop and then i plug the camera into the external to record directly onto the hard drive instead of recording to my laptop.  the camera ejects the external and forces me to have to record onto the laptop.  how do i bypass this in order to record onto the external hard drive?

Even if the camera allowed you to connect directly to the external, that would be inadvisable because the data stream would have to travel both directions on the cable between the external and the computer: from the external to the computer to get to OL, then back again to be recorded. FireWire is not designed for such bidirectional data transfer. This configuration will likely produce latency of up to 2 seconds and can even result in dropped frames.
So the recommended configuration is to connect both the camera and the external drive to Firewire ports, ideally on separate IEEE1394 busses. Then, in order to record to the external, simply create your OnLocation project on the external drive.

  • My Webcam is not recording correctly.  When recording directly to youtube, the audio sounds like a robot.  It was not doing that when I first got my new MacBook Air last month.  What do I do to fix it?

My built-in Webcam is not recording correctly.  When recording directly to youtube (upload), the audio sounds like a robot.  It was not doing that when I first got my new MacBook Air last month.  What do I do to fix it?
I have tested it over several days with different internet connections...and have done it with another notebook computer on the same connection and it the video uploaded and recorded fine.  I can also use the video webcam with Google Hangouts and it records and works fine.  So I know the problem is not internet connection...and apparantly not even the webcam or mic.

Try using Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings.

  • Can a Canon GL2 record direct to a mac through firewire

Could someone please let me know if it is possible to use a Canon GL2 and record direct to the hard drive of a computer through firewire?
    Thank you

I'm not 100% sure the GL2 has HDMI out, but if it does, it would be th best ay to record to a Mac using an intensity card or shuttle. In most cases, using the HDMI port out on a camcorder gives you uncompressed 4:2:2 data.
    Hope this helps

  • XL-1 Canon Record direct to Powerbook?

I would like to know if I upgrade to the new imovie if it will allow me to record directly to my powerbook with my Canon xl-1 Camera? Also, will the spftware allow me to record without the date and time appearing? If not. Do I need to upgrade to Final Cut Express?

To record without the date and time appearing, I think you have to turn them off the display using the remote control of the XL1.
If you don't have the instruction manual, there's a downloadable one here if you click on this link.
P.S: When receiving video down a FireWire cable from the camera to the computer, I doubt that the date and time would be sent (visibly) anyway. The d&t in the viewfinder is normally shown as an overlay, and is not really a part of the video signal. Try it!

  • How can I record directly to my HD using my XL-1?

I have a Canon XL-1. I'd like to record directly to the hard drive on my laptop. Is there a way to set that up?
    Thanks,
    ------------------S

I don't have the XL-1, but here is how it generally works:
Take the tape out (you may not need to do this, it prevents my old DV camera from going in to standby) and put the camera in camera mode.
    Plug it into the computer.
Use 'capture now' in FCP or FCE to record the incomming picture straight to HD.
You may want to look in the preferences, and remove the time limit for capture now.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I record a quicktime screen recording directly to an external hard drive?

I want to record a screen recording directly to an external hard drive (or flash drive/SD card) and I've heard that doing so will improve system performance by reducing the workload somehow. I'm not entirely sure.
Is that true, will it work, and how do I do it?
    Help would be much appreciated!

I think USB is much slower than your internal HDD connection and you might start losing frames. The system itself will do the same job... the only where performance may increase are the actions where you need to read/write from/to the disk i.e. open an app or save file.

  • Idoc control record DIRECT field mapping

    Hello,
I have a file to idoc scenario where the receiver system is an external one.
I have the necessity to set in the outbound idoc control record DIRECT = 1.
The XI system is XI 3.0 SP 19 and I've set up the mapping of the idoc control record in the message mapping and selected Apply Control Record Values from Payload and Take receiver from Payload in the Receiver Communication Channel but the idoc is still generated with DIRECT = 2.
In the documentation the field DIRECT is listed as one that will be filled using the message mapping if Apply Control Record Values from Payload is selected.
How can I generate an idoc with DIRECT = 1?
    Regards,
    Elisa

    Hello Punit,
I know that logically the right value should be 2 but the request of the receiver system is to have it as 1.
They only elaborate the idoc they receive with DIRECT = 1 (outbound).
In SAP documentation the field is listed as one that can be mapping with the message mapping but the idoc adapter is ignoring the mapping even when the Apply Control Record Values from Payload is selected.
    Regards,
    Elisa
