Record external audio while recording a video?

Hello,
I am planning on making a short film but recoding all the footage on my Ipad air, I wounded if it was possible to plug in an external shotgun microphone to use while recording viedo at the same time.
Here is the mic i was planning on getting:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SG-108-Stereo-Video-Shotgun-Mic-Microphone-for-Nikon-C amera-DV-Camcorder-/130857792675?pt=UK_Photography_Microphones&hash=item1e77bb74 a3
Would it be possible to make the Ipad use this mic instead of its internal one while the camera app is open recording a video?
If this is not the case does anyone know any other way of using an external device to record audio while recording video?
Thanks for your help!
p.s Not sure if this is the right place to post but I really need help

Have a look at this article, it amy help as well, as far as this mic, I have no idea.

  • Recording from external mic while recording music from internal device?

Not sure where to ask this? I'm rather new to MAC. I was under the impression GARAGE BAND would be able to record my vocals from an external mic while playing an audio either from an internal mp3 or CD? I don't see how if so?
I simply wish to record vocals over an instrumental song from mp3 or CD, but I am unsure how to do this on my IMAC? On my old PC, I was able to just use WINAMP to play whatever audio while recording my vocals over it with COOL EDIT? Is there some thing I'm missing here? Can I do this with Garage band or what do I need to get to do this?
Also, I've plugged my external mic in, went into my preferences to set "audio line in" and it doesn't pick up my voice? What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Wil3,
Best place would be to ask this question in the GarageBand forum which you can find here:

  • Is it possible to record an image while recording a video??

Is it possible to record an image while recording a video??, i know it is possible when the camera is just showing.

Ok i 'm developing an aplication for a hospital where the doctors use the system. For example a pacient goes to take an endoscopy chekup, where the doctor introduces a little camara into the pacient body to see the problem,so the system must be showing that, with this there is no problem JMF uses a Player to do that, the doctor can see what is going on and take a snapshot(image) at the same time. The problem is that when the doctor starts to record a video and at the same time wants to take some snapshot of that video recording.
I use this line of code, but it returns null, and got this message: player doesn't support FrameGrabbingControl.

  • APE 7 Mute audio while recording?

When trying to add a narration, my voice comes thru the speakers when I am recording. When I check the "Mute audio while recording" button the audio does NOT mute. Is this a bug?
The only work around is that I have to turn down the speaker each time I want to add a narration. It's a pain in the butt but it works.

I had the same problem and question in APE9, then I searched this forum and found your reply.
The only problem is the wording in the dialog box, which I think Adobe should fix.  While your final sentence is quite true, the slider on the left is not a record-level indicator but rather a volume (as in headphones) indicator, which controls the volume of the feedback coming into the headset speakers from the microphone with a short time lag.  (At least that's the way it seems to work with my headset.)
the problem is with Adobe's wording in that box, namely, "to reduce feedback while recording lower Input Level Volume slider."  Well Adobe, the only slider that I see in the box is the one on the left, and calling it an "Input Level Volume slider" sure sounds like a "record-level control" to me.  That's a logical interpretation in my book.  And "mute audio while recording" is pretty vague, what audio exactly (you answered that question correctly also, but until I saw this post I assumed, like the original poster here, that "audio" referred to the sound/feedback in my headphones, not other audio tracks.  Though I guess if I'd been recording narration on top of another audio track (which I don't usually do), I might have noticed that.
All this to plead with Adobe, if they're monitoring this forum, to reconsider the wording in that dialog box and in future elsewhere in the software.  Maybe before releasing the next version, ask some non-engineers to read the wording in the various dialog boxes and have them edit it, or at least explain to you in their words what they think it means.  You might be in for a big surprise, as above ...  Just a suggestion
Vague or confusing wording such as this doesn't help anyone.

  • I am using earphones, but the external audio of my mini ipad is still on. How can I turn off the external audio while listening with my headset?

I am using earphones, but the external audio of my mini ipad is still on. How can I turn off the external audio while listening with my headset/earphones?

Other than iMovie, GB always incorporates the audio files into the GB package. So just save or move the GB project to the external drive, and you're done - anything you import, edit or record will be saved to the external drive.

  • Distorted audio while recording with ScreenSflow

    Hi all,
when I record my screen using ScreenFlow (latest version) I get distorted audio.
I am not using external speakers and I just need to record with the "Record Computer Audio" option and nothing else selected.
How do I fix this? It makes it unusuable...
    Thanks

You can connect a mic to the iPod via the headphone jack and that mic will be used by the video app you use for the video camera on the iPod. I do not remember if the built-in mic gets cut off when yo do that so you may have to cover the mic hole on the iPod.

  • No audio while recording on dvr

While recording any channel, I lose the audio on that channel if I leave that channel and then go back to it. After returning to a channel that is being recorded, the only way I can get the audio back on that channel is to turn the box off and then back on. I have tried re-booting the box by unplugging it for over 1 minute, but that didn’t solve the problem. Any ideas on how to fix this problem? The dvr is Cisco CHS 435HDC.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Problem Solved: First, Verizon tech support sent me another Cisco DVR which had the same problem. Then they sent out a repair man who decided to try a Motorola DVR instead of the Cisco. Presto, the problem was gone! Apparently Verizon likes the Cisco units because they auto-activate, but my experience shows the Motorola to work better. With the Motorola, the channels changed faster and there were no audio issues when returning to a channel being recorded. Also, with the Cisco  I would hear a repeating thumping noise in the TV speakers when a program was paused, but not with the Motorola. And my dvr remote web access only worked about half the time with the Cisco but is working fine with the Motorola.
A side note: The replacement Cisco unit Verizon sent me via UPS was apparently pulled from another customer and sent to me without being cleaned up first. It still had someone elses recordings on it that had record dates prior to the date I received it, and the front of the unit had some kind of gooey substance on it. I wonder if they even tested it before they sent it to me.

  • External Audio being recorded EARLY? (makes no sense)

When recording an external drum machine that is midi sync'd to Logic 8's clock, the audio that gets recorded to disk ends up hitting 'early'... In other words, the attack portion of the Kick drum is always recorded AHEAD of the 'down beat' marker in Logic.
This makes it tedious to later go and bounce specific loop regions for exporting into other applications, such as Ableton Live.
WHat I can't figure out is how to universally correct this. I want ALL my external audio tracks to come in at the same time, but not so early. I don't understand why or how audio would 'arrive' at the hard disk AHEAD of the clock that Logic is supposedly spitting out to the same beat as its audio region markers...that shouldn't even be possible! (If anything, the audio should be coming in 'late' due to midi latency).
Can anyone help? Both my studio partner and I are flustered. This doesn't happen when recording directly into Ableton live for example...

I have had this exact problem a number of times, and it renders Logic somewhat useless to me as I record drum parts through external midi devices, and I need them to be recorded in sync.
I had a MOTU 828MkII, and an AMT8, so I tried other midi and audio interfaces to figure out what the problem was. I could not believe that the delay was a negative delay - and I eventually set the interface delay to a really high number to try and see what that did. Well that did provide a really high delay, and then when I set it back to zero - no problem! It was very strange, as if the parameter was stuck, but showing zero previously. I know when I first installed Logic, it set a delay into this automatically, and I think that's what the problem was. In any case, changing the delay up and down, and then back to zero seemed to fix my problem.
Then eventually months later, the problem came up again. However now I was using an NRV10 Firewire mixer as my audio interface, and a little MOTU Fastlane USB for midi. It's clearly not the interfaces I'm using, it's Logic.
I don't use the plug-in delay compensation, because as I understand it, you will have midi sent out early if you do, and I already have that problem. However it's as if you always have some kind of strange compensation going on. At one point I set the interface buffer to 1024, and guess what, the audio was early by 1024 samples. Then I set it to 512, and then it was 512 early. After messing around with these parameters trying to get it right, it then became more inconsistent, and I could not predict the results. . For example adding 50ms of delay made the midi signal occur earlier! Then I added another 10ms to that, and it was later - go figure.
In any case, this is a serious problem. I'm just trying to record external devices in sync, and it won't do it. Makes all the great features of Logic totally useless.
I have not seen any clear solution posted anywhere, I'm not sure why some people have the problem and other do not. It's not just a bad firewire driver.
    Scottt.

  • Can't record Audio while recording an Audio Instrument?

Okay, so I never expected this to be a problem. I've just recently begun recording multiple tracks at the same time (all audio-only until this point). I'm sure there's a really simple solution to this, but I can't seem to find it.
Today I wanted to record a few strums on my guitar and then play a few chords on the keyboard, going back and forth. I armed the track for the guitar (it will record by itself, by the way) and then armed the track for the keyboard (which will also record by itself). I hit record, did my thing, and the audio for the guitar just didn't record. All I had was MIDI.
Both tracks appeared armed for recording.
I had the Audio Instrument track currently selected, so I figured maybe it got priority. If I selected the Audio track though, the Audio Instrument track was no longer considered armed.
Is this just something I can't do? Or maybe there's an option I can change for this in Preferences or something?
    Thanks in advance.

Yes. I'm 100% certain that I'm getting the signal from the guitar. The levels change as I strum both before and during recording.
-If I have the guitar's track both selected and armed, it will record.
-If I have the guitar track armed with a different audio track selected, it will record.
-If I have the guitar track armed with an Audio Instrument track selected, only the Audio Instrument records.
-I cannot arm both the guitar track and an Audio Instrument track with the guitar track selected, because as soon as I select the guitar track, the Audio Instrument track(s) become unarmed.
This is not a matter of me getting no sound out of the recording- there is simply no recording. (And during recording, the little dialog box doesn't pop up to tell me that audio is recording.)
It does seem simple enough, and yet it doesn't work. I can record multiple audio tracks, but for some reason once I throw a MIDI track into the mix I can't record audio simultaneously.
I have no reason to believe this is anything other than Logic as I can record both separately (without altering the configuration of how I have things plugged into my computer at all). I just can't seem to do them together.
Surely Logic can be used to record something like... MIDI keyboard and vocals simultaneously, right? This has to be a feature.
If you don't quite get what my problem is, open Logic and test out the bullet points at the top of this message. That should help you understand.

  • Record mic volume while recording screen?

My brother wants to record his mic while playing runescape but xvidcap doesn't capture his mic. I have the capture set all the way up (it makes a buzzing sound btw) but it doesn't capture it. Is there way I can capture his mic while doing a screencast? Does any other screencast software work? (software must of a region select option)
I tried pulseaudio but in the recording tab there are no streams. Any help would be appreciated.

I use qt-recordmydesktop which allows me to set the audio capture device.
There are pygtk and command line versions as well.

  • Is there any way to cut audio while keeping the video it is tied to?

ok, I have a video from a dvd i burned on FCE but the sound is messed up. I am going to be making a AMV with it anyway so I don't really need the audio. Is there any way of cutting the audio without disturbing the video it was imported with. I must stress that they were not imported separately.

Place the footage in the timeline. Click the lock key on the vidoe time line. This will place a screen looking thing over the video. Select the audio in the time line and press delete. That will delete the audio but keep the video. Then unclick the lock key and all should be well. Always remeber the "undo" option if you mess up. I use it all the time.

  • 70D Is there a way to control audio while recording video?

I have figured out how to control the audio manually prior to entering the video record mode (no thanks to the manual) but can’t figure out how to control it once the camera is recording.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Tim, if Canon were to introduce a software update that allowed one of the dials to increase or decrease record level during recording, that would really elevate the 70D's standing as a video device. Is it possible?
I was recording a musician the other day who turned up his amp during a song and was stuck with the manual level I'd set before he started. It's a helpless feeling knowing you've either got to settle for distortion or stop and restart the recording, losing part of the song.

  • Is there a way to monitor audio while recording video on iphone?

I use an external microphone with a y-splitter for plugging in the mic but I can't get any sound out of the headphone side. Don't know if it's the adapter or if the phone just doesn't do that.

There are some special microphones made for iPhone use that provide headphone output, such as the iRig

  • Recording external audio at 48 khz?

If I record all my audio externally, should I be doing so at 48khz? Or does IM5 automatically adjust. The reason I ask is I usually record music and I don't want it to be in the wrong key.
    PowerBook 1.67   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Not "key".
It's frequency and iMovie uses an oversampling of your original source to make a 48kHz audio file.
Larger sample rates (like those found in apps like Garageband) will be reduced to 48kHz.
An audio CD is recorded at 44.1kHz in AIFF format. If you exceed those frequencies your audio source file will be reduced in file size but you will not be able to hear any difference.
Use the Audio MIDI Setup app (Utilities folder) to make sure you're recording at the correct sample rate and frequency. Higher settings are OK but know that iMovie can't make a file above 48kHz.
