Record External Source (bit/hz config?) Nothing But Static

:Record External Source (bit/hz config?) Nothing But StaticY Okay - I'm ready to be mutilated for posting this, but I've searched for HOURS so feel free to talk to me like I'm a total noob/fi've year old (but a smart fi've year old).
I just purchased the PCI Express X-Fi Xtreme Audio card am I am trying to record the audio from?an external source (my?DirecTV receiver.)? I have the optical cable directly connected from the receiver to the S/PDIF-IN and all other cables (HDMI) disconnected.
A few questions:
-Do the settings (control panel>sound>recording) for bit/hz have to match those of the Creative MediaSource?
-Can you record directly from a DirecTV HD-DVR?
I've tried a lot of different settings and all I get is NOTHING but white noise/static and?the pitch/rate varies depending on the settings I am using. I'm lost.

I am using console launcher and there you have to set your recording source.......do you see where I have hovered over the recording source where it gives me three choices? Here you can pick yours. If you have the wrong source you will get static. In your sound, recording properties, there you can set your default bitrate.
If you have the wrong recording source, it will sound like white noise, or intermittant jibberish. I have never done a session of which you speak, but I am guessing when you have plugged in your digital satelite, you can try the "What U Hear"? feature to record sound to make sure your sound is being picked up on the PC. Then change your source to pull directly from the digital in.

  • Nothing but Static

A little ill with ipods so far. Purchased over a thousand dollars worth for Christmas presents and so far, 2 of them seemed to have bit the dust on me. My daughter's nano plays nothing but static. I have been thru the 5 R's twice. Any other suggestions? Please!!

Have you tried it with other headphones? If it doesn't work with any headphones, you'll probably ahve to send it in for service.

  • X-Fi XtremeGamer: Getting nothing but static in Game M

So I have an X-Fi XtremeMusic card being identified as an XtremeGamer and everything was fine up until the past few weeks. Recently, I've been getting problems where I go into game mode, I get nothing but static. Every sound I try to play is replaced by static and it's been bugging the hell outta me. I've tried re-installing the drivers, but to no avail. And sometimes, the problem isn't just limited to game mode. Every now and then, I'll also get no sound when using Entertainment mode, while my game mode would be working fine.
Basically, I haven't had an instance yet where all 3 of the modes work normally. It's usually one of the modes having problems whilst the other 2 are working fine. Please help!

I recently noticed that the entire album "The Future of the Gravity Boy" by Infadels contains nothing but 3 second clips of static, instead of the actual songs. Here's a link to the album I'm talking about:https://open.spotify.com/album/3OQ4dSIvojhfeaFSwxG23N  Thanks in advance,Hugo2607

That's really just a blog, though, when you think about it.
Which brings an interesting thought: Rather than requesting people write content specific to the magazine, maybe it would be easier to mine some of the numerous blogs for magazine content. Then you have access to content that people are already voluntarily writing. All you need to do is request permission from various blog authors to reprint their stuff. You could then have a blog of your own (crouse'll set you up on archlinux.me, I'm sure) to release the "normal" content: devland, interviews, at your convenience, with no hard deadlines.

  • How to record from an external source

I recently bought a hp envy 17" and I cant figure out how to record onto this laptop.  I have to jacks on the left side, one with an icon of a headphones, the other with an icon of a headset.  I want to be able to take input a stereo jack to record into one of these and record into a program like Audacity.  Under device manager it says I have an ATI High Def Audio Device.  How do I record from an external source?  Thanks.

@toolchic, first make sure that in the IDT HD Sound properties [right click the IDT ICON near the clock, which says "Controls IDT Audio Settings" on mouse over the icon], and choose "Open Audio control panel".
Next choose "Recording > Settings". Here choose the input you want to record with. In your case choose "Integrated Microphone Array" on the top left. Click "Settings" just bellow, slide the bar to "10db boost" on the right, and slide the recording level bar about midway up [at the bottom of the window where all the volume controls for all recording devices are].
While you/re there, it's a good idea to mute the "External mic", and mute any other recording device that you do not need. Next, click the "Processing" tab below the settings tab, and choose "Reduce noise". Leave all the others unchecked. for these will produce a not so nice sound. This helps to eliminate fan noise and other background noise in your recording.
Now when you open your preferred digital audio program e.g.. Audacity [it's free and pretty easy to use, see link below], you can choose the INTEGRATED MIC ARRAY in the recording options. Choose that and then "arm" the track for recording [Usually an icon with R in the recording controls] Next click "record" to begin recording. Of course these steps depend on the digital audio recording program you're using.
If you don't have a dedicated digital audio recording program, and if you have windows 7 or vista, you can record long sessions with the default Microsoft recording program [this program is useless in XP, for it only records for like a minute or so, maximum!. A dedicated program such as Audacity records depending on how much hard drive disk space, or close to that.
@fritz, in essence, input jacks of most current notebooks, external computer mics are mono, but they use a  stereo mini jack [or 3 band, if I understood you correctly]. These are the same as regular earphone jacks. One band is signal, one is earth, and the other is +5 Volts to drive the condenser [these are known as "condenser mics"]. But if you use a dedicated studio type recording mic, then you need a dedicated preamp, and if it is a condenser as apposed to a dynamic mic, the preamp needs to supply what's known as "phantom power" [typically 45v] through the input jack where the mic is plugged into.
However, if you record from the mic in/line in jack of a line out of say a mic preamp, channel mixer deck, CD/DVD/TV etc., then this has to be a stereo mini jack [has 3 bands]. Special cables with 2 [stereo] RCA jacks to mini jack are the ones to use. That is if the line out connector of your recording course is RCA [your typical TV/CD//DVD audio / video out or in are RCA connectors e.g..].

my final cut is running extremely slow after having for 6 months.  I use external hard drives and save nothing on my computer.  it takes a long time to render now. do you think something is wrong with computer. took it to mac store but they fail to help me.  I have a 13 inch mac book pro 10.6.8 8gb 2.3 gfz intel core i5

What did Apple tell you about what they did (or did not) find here?
See if working on the main disk is any faster.
USB2 is glacial, as I/O interconnects go.  And USB2 disks have been known to fail, or sometimes to drop back to USB1 speeds, too.  FireWire 800 is substantially faster than USB2, but still not as fast as the internal drive connections can provide.
Put another way, start varying your configuration, and see which configuration changes (still) have the problem, and which don't.

  • Itunes 64-bit on Windows & 64-bit does nothing but give errors!

    I've been trying to connect Iphone 3g 4.0.1 on Windows7 64-bit since last 5 days! Tried almost all the tips found on internet regarding this issue and none worked! At first simply downloaded the latest iTunes 9 (64-bit). It didnt work at all and I ended up seeing different errors. Then read this;
    http://www.sevenforums.com/installation-setup/4318-release-notes-important-issue s-beta-release-windows-7-a.html
    Tried that too and still getting nothing but errors. In last 5 days I encountered the following variety of errors;
Device Manager -> Portable Device -> MTP Usb Devie -> Device cannot start (Code 10)
Device Manager -> Portable Device -> Apple Iphone -> Device cannot start (Code 10)
iTunes -> iTunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE8000065)
iTunes -> iTunes could not connect to the iPhone "iPhone" because an unknown error occurred (0xE8000023)
iTunes -> iTunes could not connect to the iPhone "iPhone" because an unknown error occurred (0xE8000035)
iTunes -> iTunes could not connect to the iPhone because an invalid response was received from the device (0xE8000001)
I even tried programs like iPhone Explorer, DiscAid, iFun-box etc. None worked. And now looking for a final answer. Will it work on Windows 7 or not? I am too tired of trying now.

I don't know if this will help, but folks on Windows systems (typically laptops) with PM55 chipsets (like their brethen with P55 chipsets and other chipsets in the 5 series and 3400 series) have been reporting a lot of trouble with iPod/iPhone syncing (in particular, 0xE0000065 error messages, but the symptoms may vary).
In cases where no BIOS updates are available, and the BIOS does not have a user configurable C-STATE setting, some success has been achieved by using an old trick ... changing the power management settings on the USB Host controllers, as per the following document:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1401
When attempting to connect iPhone or iPod touch, you may see one or more of the following error messages:
    ▪ iTunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE8000065)
    ▪ iTunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE800000a)
    ▪ iTunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE800006b)
    ▪ iTunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE8000001)
Alternatively, the error may be the same as above but end with a different number. See:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3221
(thanks to B Noir for the tip)
    Hope this helps.

tried to move the itune folder to an external hdd,  (precisely as written above) but after "consolidating, happens nothing

That's because too many people confuse moving media folder with moving the library properly.
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music [library] to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 - a somewhat bewildering and not always easily understandable set of options.
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the iTunes Library.itl file in the moved iTunes folder.
For the record there's this reference for iTunes 11 but it really doesn't strike me as having the specifics you need. iTunes 11 for Mac: Move your library to another computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12168

Bought an iPod nano for use in an external source to the unit of the BMW. It works, but don't remember the place when you turn off the power and every time begins to play the playlist first.

    Thanks iPod Whisperer--
I do realize that the nano will resume where I left off in my audiobook if I reload the file that was last playing.
What I was hoping is that the 6g nano would work like my previous iPods and default to the last file played the next time played after Iused sleep mode instead of going to some random song on the iPod.
Since I usually have a lot of audiobooks on my iPod--and most of those have 10-15 files in them, it's a pain to have to navigate to the correct file (and try to remember which of the 10-15 files I was last playing). On all my other iPods I could simply hit play and it would start up in the audiobook right where it left off.
Note--this only happens if I use the sleep timer to turn off the iPod. If I pause the book myself, when I turn the iPod back on it'll "remember" what file it was playing.
    Hope this makes sense.

  • Probably nothing, but: how much (external) pressure can MBP take?

I'm visiting my grandparents, and had my MBP closed on a firm leather sofa (atop a binder I was using as a flat surface). I was off the couch, so my grandpa decides to sit where I was sitting. He lowers himself into the seat with one hand on the armrest, and +one atop my MBP+! I don't think he even saw or noticed!
Now, I'm obviously using it now, but I was just wondering: how much pressure can the case take? My grandfather's almost 90, so he's most likely not that heavy; he certainly doesn't look it. Anything I should watch out for as far as possible signs of trouble? The MBP's probably fine, isn't it?
This concern will most likely come to nothing, but it seemed like a worthwhile question regardless, so I decided to ask. Thanks in advance!

I have yet had a TSA agent ask me to remove my computer from my notebook carrying bag.  I just put the whole bag right onto the bin.
Never had a TSA agent put another bin on top of mine either.  If this ever happened, I would have filed a complaint or asked to speak with a TSA supervisor.

  • Project not picking up changes in external sources

I have a flex project that's using a couple of other Flex
library projects as external sources... i have everything setup and
    working nicely.
Except... if i make a change to one of the library projects
the flex project doesn't seem to pick it up... for a while... if i
add a log comment to my library project and build it, then run the
flex project i don't see the log... if i close down Flex 3 and
leave it for a bit, then open it and run it again... there it is...
if i close and immediately reopen i don't see it... seems like
something is being held in memory... but not sure if this is a Flex
issue or local to my installation/machine etc.
Anyone else seen anything like this?

Sounds like you are seeing a problem with project
dependencies, and possibly also slow compilation times. Would you
    mind entering a bug at
    http://bugs.adobe.com/jira ?
If you could zip up and attach the projects that reproduce
the problem, that will greatly help us investigate. However only
attach them via the bug form if it is code you don't mind the
public seeing. If you want to keep it private (but don't mind
sharing it with us internally), you can file the bug and email the
code to [email protected], including the bug number.
If you can't submit the code as-is, I understand, but if you
are able to strip it down to something basic / non-sensitive that
still reproduces the problem and submit that, it would be immensely
    helpful.
    Thanks much,

how do I disable time machine? I want to use my external drive as additional storage. But it mirrors everything I edit. If I remove a document, it removes it from the external drive as well.
I purchased a 1 TB WD passport drive, formatted for Mac. I set it up originally (mistakenly) to backup time machine. I went back and set it to "do not backup"  It still backs up evey document I edit. If I add a document when the drive is disconnected, it automatically adds it to the external drive the next time connect to the passport drive. If I remove a document the same thing happens.
I need additional storage to free up space on my laptop hard drive. This is not working the way I want it to. Help!

Do not backup your startup volume to another partition on the same drive. If the drive fails you have nothing. Always backup to another drive or volume on another drive.
The I/O error usually means there's a problem with the drive. Clone ASAP, then repartition and reformat the main drive. Then restore the clone. Here's the basic process:
You will have to backup your OS X partition to an external drive, boot from the external drive, use Disk Utility to repartition and reformat your hard drive back to a single volume, then restore your backup to the internal hard drive.
Get an empty external hard drive and clone your internal drive to the external one.
Boot from the external hard drive.
    Erase the internal hard drive.
Restore the external clone to the internal hard drive.
Clone the internal drive to the external drive
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager appears.  Select the icon for the external drive and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    After startup do the following:
    Erase internal hard drive
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your internal hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.  Do not quit Disk Utility.
Restore the clone to the internal hard drive
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the internal hard drive. Source means the external startup drive.
Note that the Source and Destination drives are swapped for this last procedure.

  • Record external video to the iPad via cable or device

    Hi,
is there any hardware and software combination which will allow me to record video from an external source, such as a DVR onto the iPad ?
    Thank you

but an even more basic question is does this 30-pin dock connector have the bandwidth to handle real-time input from an NTSC camera?
The cable certainly has the 'bandwidth' but the real question is will Apple's iOS allow the camera signal to go through the cable and be read by an app?  In any case, it's a mute point since there's no app.
There are already security camera apps in the app store for specific cameras... http://appshopper.com/search/?search=security+camera

  • Regarding Making DB Connect Delta Capable with external Sources

    Hi Everyone!
Although as standard DB Connect does not support Delta, this much I have understood.  Lately I came across an article from Shreekant Shiralkar and Bharat Patel, BW System Managers, Bharat Petroleum, India in an old BW Expert Article...  I have understood that this is from BW 3.0 upwards.  Can this be applied to BI 7.0?  The Title of the article is "Make DB Connect Delta Capable with External Sources"
Chetan?  Edwin? Olivier?  Anil? Sandeep?  Moderators?
    Regards,
    Philips

    Hi Philips,
I didn't read this article but I'll expose what we have implemented here.
All data coming from non SAP systems are loaded into what I named a "pre staging" database (PSDB) prior extracted to BW. This PSDB is nothing else than a simple, cheap, easy to manage MSSQL server 2000.
Our BW has this PSDB system declared as DBConnect source system.
In few words, we do data cleansing, preparation, formatting in this PSDB when any non SAP data shall be loaded in SAP BW. In addition, we use this machine to perform any R/3 datamigration required for new Rollouts.
Coming back to the delta handling: we don't handle deltas with this DBConnect source system because SAP BW doesn't consider it as delta capable natively.
We develop function modules extractors having the MyBW as source system. MyBW then "think" it is a SAP delta capable source system and we can then setup our MyBW DataSources with any kind of delta type by changing manually the core table ROOSOURCE.
The extractor itself does many things because all structures are handled dynamically and some part of the extractor coding itself is generated on the fly.
The extractor also creates temporary stored procedure directly in the PSDB so that only deltas are delivered to BW.
The core of the extractor, I think everyone would agree, is the OPEN CURSOR statement. The OPEN CURSOR in our case is simply done within an EXEC SQL having our PSDB connection open.
I could discuss this approach at length but we are now running this for more than 3 years (of course a certain effort has been done initially) to our full satisfaction.
I am now finalizing the next "generation": having the PSDB server posting itself, deltas to the MyBW TRFC queue, emulating some how a LO/LIS DataSource.
hope this shed light (at leas mine...)
    Olivier.
