Record midi notes from reason?

I was wondering if there is any way to send midi notes from reason back into logic (other than exporting regions) :P
The reason I want to do this is because I am addicted to the Matrix editor in reason... it's such a fun scratchpad
-S

You mean the Matrix editor in Logic, dont you?
No, there is actually a matrix editor in reason too.... It's basically a pattern sequencer that makes it feel like you are working on a TB-303
Well, not quite that good :P but it's fun.
It's basically an analog style sequencer.... gives you CV type outputs if you want
I tried to get the exact link that explains it, but it just shows up as...

Do a search for "matrix" it is the first one in the list

  • I can record midi data from my Mason & Hamlin Piano Disc Pro Record through my MOTU Traveller into Logic but Logic won't send midi data out to the MOTU Traveller to the Piano Disc player

    Hello All,
I can record midi data from my Mason & Hamlin Piano Disc Pro Record through my MOTU Traveller into Logic Pro 9.1.8  but Logic won't send the midi data back out to the MOTU Traveller and thus to the Piano Disc player. I got it to playback one time but have no idea how and when it did it was looping or something because the velocity was way high coming back in and the damper pedal was slamming down. When I play a key on the piano the midi "in" light on the Traveller lights up. When I play the track back on my computer no lights blink on the Traveller and when I did the apple midi studio test in utilities when I play a key I get the confirmation signal noise and the Traveller blinks when I click on the down arrow of the Traveller in the Apple midi studio test the midi out light on the traveller never lights and the signal light on the piano does not blink either. No outbound signal at all...
I have messed with every possible parameter I can find and and have had help from one of Piano Disc's premier editors but no luck. The piano was prepped for me on Logic so it would work with my studio.  I'm positive it's my fault and I'm overlooking something really simple and stupid but what!??!
Somebody please help.  Thank you all in advance for ANY ideas you might have!

    Blues Piano,
I'm not sure if this will be a help or not.  I'm so Logic Pro wet behind the ears that I make newbies look experienced.  However, I'm not expecting many on the Apple support forums have a PianoDisc system, much less one with the new optical record strip.  While I don't have any record strip on my PianoDisc, I do have a PianoDisc iQ that's only a month old.  I've been playing converted paper scrolls from hundred year old player pianos through it via the MIDI in port of the PianoDisc CPU.  I've found I have to open the MIDI file in Logic Pro (10.0.4) then go to <Track><New External MIDI Track> then copy the existing track to that new external track.  Only then can I see in the Track inspector (defaults left side of screen with the Icon for the instrument) the "Port" parameter.  Then I can select my external MIDI device in that Port selector.
I've also encountered problems with the PianoDisc not using enough force on the notes or using too much force.  To get around this problem, until I understand Logic better, I've been setting minimum and maximum volicities.  To do that I right click on the track and select "Select All."  Then I right click again and select "MIDI" then "MIDI Transform"  then "Velocity Limiter."  In the resulting pop up window in the center is a drop down and you can play with the velocity from "MIN" to "MAX" along with "ADD" "SUBTRACT" etc.
I hope this helps.  I envy you your Mason & Hamlin.  If you need more help on this just email me at pfleischmann at mac dot com.

  • When importing midi files from Reason they become "Pop Flute"

Hi I am new here in the discussion board so i don't really know how everything works. I own an iMac and Garageband 3 and I also use Reason 4.0. I export midi files from Reason to use in Garageband and I have no trouble finding the files, but when I drag them into GB it makes all the tracks into "Pop Flute" tracks. Can anyone help me out here?? Also does anyone know how to or if you can register Garageband for Tech Support?

What you are suggesting, I'm sorry to say, is not helpful at all.
    Just curious: Why not?
To be more precise: GB doesn't support the General Midi standard, so program data in midi files really don't mean a lot to it. There are instruments in the General Midi standard that GB just doesn't have. So you can convert your file as much as you want.

  • Can I record audio notes from iphone to cd

Can I record audio notes to cd from my iPhone?

Not direct from the iPhone, but audio notes can be synced with iTunes on your computer. You can burn your iPhone audio notes to a CD from your iTunes library on your computer as with any other music files in your iTunes library.

  • Recording video not from camera

I want to record video into Final Cut to edit from locations outside of my camera, i.e. the internet, DVD player, etc. My camera does not have the function to input video, it can only export it.
Any suggestions on how to do this?
    Thanks
    Matt

Internet video comes in various forms - obviously Quicktime is the friendliest for FCP, and in my experience AVI is the one most likely to have an obscure codec. Two of the best tools I have found for converting weird video from web (and digital security camera) sources is FFMpeg. You'll find it for free, along with others like mp4vdecoder at the apple website under downloads>video. For converting DVDs, the best free tool is Mpeg Streamclip by Squared 5, downloadable from http://www.alfanet.it/squared5/MPEGStreamclip1.9.1.dmg . It has a function to "Export to DV" which has a small idiosyncrasy: even though you can set audio to 48kHz, you still need to render audio (normally a trivial issue.)
Once you have converted the clip to the correct frame size and frame rate, it can be imported into FCP and edited into your project.

  • Record external Arpeggio (from external Plugin) as MIDI Notes

Guys ... sorry .. still dont have a clue how to do it.
    Example :
    Predator is running an arpeggiator.
I want to 'catch' the generated MIDI notes from that arpeggio, and record them on another MIDI track.
I would prefer to do this without the Environment, but if thats what it takes, ok.
Thx for the help in advance.
    RnO

Thx .. I have seen most of them already, maybe i missed the big one.
But they are mainly about the Logic Built-In (crap) Arpeggiator.
Dont want to use it, caus its very .. eh .. limited.
What i mean to understand is how to :
'catch' midi-events (e.g. the notes) from ANY external SoftSynth Arpeggiator running a self-generated arpeggio.
    ****, hope i am clear.
Thx for helping out man, can you give more insight on my Q. ?

  • Recorded midi file with Garageband keyboard-only the beginning of it plays

    Hi,
When i play a recorded midi sound from the jampack with the midi keyboard included (world music instrum.), once the track is recorded, if I start to play it and press stop in the middle of a long note, and press play again, the last part of this note isn't heard. It's no big deal, but for editing it's a pain in the neck because in order to hear the sound I have to go back to the beginning of that same note. Anyone here knows what this can be due to?, Ive checked the garageband help and not much is said about that...
    Thanks for the help.
    Patrick.

It's not a GB problem, but inherent to midi - the data consists only of "note on" / "note off" events, not continuous information about a key being pressed down. So if you start playing your song after the "note on" event, the program has no way of knowing that the key was pressed earlier. It then just ignores the "note off" event.

  • Copy/Paste MIDI notes

In version 7, I could copy MIDI notes from a region of track to any other regions without a hitch.
For some reason when I do this in 8, Logic stretches the destination region a bar or so..?
As I did in 7, I place the playhead where I want to copy the MIDI notes, select 'copy', then place the playhead where I want to paste the notes and select 'paste'. The notes get pasted but, for some reason, a bar gets added to the region. I opened 7 and tried it and it worked as it always had and as I described above.(without stretching the region)
Is there a setting or preference in 8 that is causing, or would resolve, this..?

i think if the duration of the note(s) is longer than the midi window displays, it moves it weird so that it shows the right side end of the notes. you can open the right side of the midi windows wider and paste then drag it back to fit right.
    good luck

  • Deleted midi notes take several seconds to dissappear!

Logic Pro X: When I delete a midi note from the piano roll it can take 10 maybe 15 seconds to disappear, usually when I try to click on it again. Very frustrating as I'm never quite sure if a note has been removed when I edit. Anyone else seen this problem?
    Thanks,
    Terence

I've just discovered that if i select a note by dragging a selection box around it, then it deletes immediately when I press the delete key. If I select by just clicking on the individual note, then I get these weird delay phenomena. Bizarre - but at least I now have a working solution.

  • I am not able to get MIDI playing from my keyboard

And besides that, Logic only registers up to 64 velocity on my keys, so I can hardly hear anything.  No matter how hard i hit the keys on my Casio 150, logic only registers 64 max.
When I try t record, no notes record.  However, the red bar that shows it is recording appears, but only when I strike my keyboard during that bar / measure.... yet it doesn't record anything.  In fact the red bar vanishes as soon as I touch stop button.
This happened for no apparent reason at all.  I had everything going fine the day before.....
The previous MIDI tracks I had recorded in Kontakt all play back fine, with the pad sounds and everything, but now it is not registering anything new
MIDI information is recorded in Garage Band when I test it there... very weird
    Please help !

There is no message that says to ask the computer for permission.
EXACTLY what were you doing, and what is the EXACT error message?

  • BPM from (externally recorded) Midi recorded drums at incorrect tempo when importing into Logic?

    Hey there
Yesterday I recorded midi drums to a click track for a song into my iPhone using an IK Multimedia iRig Midi.
I had the click track playing from my iPod (that I had recorded as an mp3 at 148pm) and I recorded the drum beat for the whole song at 148bpm into my iPhone using the iRig Midi Recorder app.
I exported the file from my iPhone to my Mac.
    Just to note:
When I play the file through QuickTime it plays fine at 148bpm OK.
If I import the midi file into iTunes, iTunes plays it at 148bpm, and even if I convert it to an mp3 using iTunes, iTunes STILL plays it at 148bpm.
So, if I right mouse click the .midi file>open with Logic
It opens in Logic (With the project set to 120bpm) and the midi track plays at 148bpm, with the metronome playing at 120bpm.
If I then change the BPM of the project to 148bpm, it then changes the BPM of the midi drum file to 183bpm, with the metronome playing at 148bpm.
So, I've tried it another way
Create a new Logic project, set the BPM to 148bpm, then IMPORT the .midi file.
But the midi track plays at 183bpm, with the metronome playing at 148bpm.
So there still the same problem.
I NEED this to line up perfectly with the click track at 148bpm, otherwise I many as well just recorded it live and not to click.
Any suggestions on whats going on here, because something isn't right.
    Thanks

    Just to note
Ive tested the bpm of the song using a little program called VOX (from the exported iTunes mp3 file) and Vox states its 91.51bpm (Making it 183.02 bpm in my mind)
(I initially tested the bpm manually using http://www.all8.com/tools/bpm.htm, so I'm not bad only being 0.02 bpm out)
I've had just tried the following but its still not right.
I imported the midi track into Garageband and set the project initially (Before importing) to 183bpm and assumed I could just then change the projects bpm to 148bpm.
    This doesnt work either.
Upon import of the midi file to GB with the project set at 183bpm, it then plays the midi drum file at approx 227bpm. So its actually sped it up. (tested manual BPM test using http://www.all8.com/tools/bpm.htm )
If I take the projects BPM down to 148bpm, it then plays it at 182bpm (tested manual BPM test using http://www.all8.com/tools/bpm.htm )
If I take the projects BPM down to 120bpm, it then plays it at 148bpm (tested manual BPM test using http://www.all8.com/tools/bpm.htm ). Ah-ha! You might think, so thats fine. Well, yes it plays the drum beat at approx 148bpm, BUT the system still thinks its 120BPM, so it wont line up to the click track at all.
I NEED this to line up perfectyly with the click track of 148bpm, otherwise I many as well just recorded it live and not to click.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

  • MIDI Setup - I can record MIDI but not hear it.

I have reviewed other posts on the site. No luck getting this going yet. I can record MIDI but can't hear the sound on Playback.
Here are some pics showing my setup. I am using a Roland XP 60 through a Midisport 2X2.
    http://www.guitarpsycho.com/helpwithlogic/
I can see the data was recorded from the keyboard but am not getting any sound when I play back.
This is probably simple but I am not finding the answer here. Any help is appreciated!!!

I am trying to play the Roland sounds. I was able to use the keyboard as a controller using the Quicktime Template which was pretty cool but I want to access any of the Roland sounds.
Are you saying that I should only run the keyboard in and not have a MIDI out connection?
Anyway Thanks! I will check the multi-instrument setup after work and let you all know what I figure out.....hopefully tonight.

  • Crystal Report Alerts not firing when no records are fetched from the DB

    Hello,
The crystal report alert i have created in the report in the event of no records being fetched from the query is not firing.  The condition used is isnull ( count(DB Field ) ).
Is there a limitation with alerts that they would be fired only when some records are fetched in the report.
    Appreciate any pointers
    -Jayakrishnan

    hi Jayakrishnan,
as alerts require records to be returned here's what you will need to do:
    1) delete your current alert
    2) create a new formula with syntax like
                  isnull(DistinctCount ()) or DistinctCount () = 0
    3) create a new Subreport (which you will put in a report header)
    4) the subreport can be based off of any table
    5) have the subreport record selection always return only 1 record...for performance reasons
    6) change the subreport link to be based on the new formula
    7) the link will be a one way link in that you will not use the "Select data in subreport based on field" option
    8) now in the subreport, create the Alert based on the parameter created by the subreport link
i have tested this and it works great.

  • Stuck notes from external midi device

I just started using Logic today for the first time. I hooked up a MOTU midi express XT as an interface between my MacBook Air and a Proteus Orchestral synth (old rack model). Also hooked a FATAR keyboard (controller) to the interface. Everything shows up fine in the audio / midi setup windows. I was able to figure out how to set up several tracks in Logic pointing to the multiple channels on the external midi device (synth). So far, so good. But when I started recording the tracks I ran into stuck notes from the synth. I've had this in the past on other sequencing software and don't remember how to solve it? In addition, while recording the tracks from my keyboard controller notes would occasionally not play, almost like there was a memory / cpu problem.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

In case you need to get back the default Logic control surface setup you can delete the Control Surface preference file and the default file will be rebuilt. It's a good way to get back to Logic's initial control surface setting. Also, if you had chosen to edit the Logic Remote CS entry instead of remove it there are adjustments that can be made, like disabling Active Sensing, or even disabling "Flash Mute and Solo Buttons" on the basic Control Surface Preferences pane.
Deleting the Logic 10 Control Surface Prefs.
In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder from the menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences  in the "Go to the folder" field.
    Press the Go button.
Delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
Note: to get to the User-Library the tilde ~ has to be included.        ~/Library/Preferences
