Record to DV tape

In sequence/sequence settings my payback settings menu is greyed out, Why and how to fix?
I cannot get CS6 to record to the DV tape using a cannon GL2 camera.
I tried to export to tape and the program controlled the camera, said it was recording (program and camera) but it did not record to the tape, nothing showed up on the display screen of the camera?  Can any one help please?

  • Old records and cassette tapes

I have a number of old LP records and cassette tapes that I would like to import into Itunes. Is this possible and what would I need to do it ? Any help would be appreciated

One way is to connect your Cassette deck or turntable (through the Tape out sockets of your amplifier) to the audio in socket of your computer. On the computer you'll need audio editing software to capture and edit the resulting long file into individual tracks that can be added to the iTunes Library. There are a number of commercial programs for this (I use Sound Studio for the Mac). If want to try out the process first you could try the open source program Audacity which has Linux, Mac and Windows versions at this link: Audacity. If your Mac came with it installed you could also check out Garageband, I've never used it myself so I'm not sure of it's capabilities.
In addition to the software you'll need RCA to 3.5 mm audio plug cables to connect the Tape Out sockets of your amplifier to the audio inputs of your computer. There's a short guide to recording here: How to record from vinyl and cassette to a computer also from the BBC Copying Vinyl Recordings to CD
If your Mac or PC hasn't got an audio in socket you can have a look at the Griffin iMic which connects to a USB port and comes with some software of it's own: iMic USB audio interface

Sorry for this question. Can you use this device with Vlc or QuickTime? Does skype support it? Is this device supported only by its own software?
I need a device that can work with my own software. My software can work only with a QuickTime supported device.

  • Capturing HD recorded from DV tape

I've been given a DV tape that has been filmed using a Sony Z1E camera in HD. When trying to capture the footage in FCPHD 5.1.2, there's no setting that will allow it.
    Any suggestions?

to capture at the native resolution recorded on the tape, you need to use a compatible HDV deck or camera to play it back ... make sure you set the FCP > Easy Setup to the same as the source format as recorded
alternatively, if you don't want to work in HD, depending on the playback device, you may be able to set it to downconvert the source to plain vanilla DV, in which case you should set the FCP > Easy Setup to the approriate DV format and capture as such.

  • Recording Audio through Tape Inputs in Logic

    Hi
I have a Mackie Onyx firewire desk. Is there a way i can record from the tape inputs on my desk in to logic. I have a level in on the desk but cant find how to get logic to receive this signal? Can anyone help
    Cheers
    Jonny

    Hi Jonny,
The tape inputs on your desk are "Monitoring only" meaning they only play back when you select "Tape" in the control room/headphone monitor section. The best way is to bring in what you have plugged into the"tape inputs" on two channels of the board itself, like channels 15-16.
Then you can record directly into Logic,if you have the FireWire card installed.

  • Recording from Vinyl Tapes to Zen Visio

1 ) Is it possible to transfer music directly from my Vinyl Cassettes to Zen Vision M (60GB)?
    2) Can I use External mic for voice recording instead of inbuilt mic?
Any special accessories required for the above tasks and their availability (Creative or otherwise)
    R D SAMANT

You will need a digital audio player with a line in to be able to record from tape or from vinyl or any other external source. Vision M does not have this. Ditto for an external mic.
The JB and JB3 have line in capability. JB3 is still a favorite of the taping community.
I also use one in my turntable setup, recording to it from an amp output. This is a VERY convenient way of digitizing my old vinyl.

  • Recording from audio tape, using SPDIF

I recorded and saved as mp3, some music from an old audio tape and selected SPDIF-IN as the recording medium. The issue is when I tested the playback it sounded ok on my PC. Now after saving the file with a different name etc., the file has no sound when played in Media Player 0 or WinAmp 5. The file is over 30 MB in size so I know it is not an empty file.

Tape is analog source, but SPDIF is digital. You should use Line-In.

  • Recording back to tape

I was just wondering if someone can point me to some instructions on how to write a previously "captured" MiniDV tape back to a MiniDV tape. I imported them all into iMovie '08, as that was where I was doing my editing. I made the mistake of taping over the original MiniDV tape. I would now like to re-write all of my "clips" back to a MiniDV tape so I have a backu. All of the clips are timestamped; however, when I write them back to tape using the "print to tape" feature of FinalCutExpress 4, I lose all of the dates. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure you lose the dates ? I know for sure that you lose the original timecode (each recording starts from 0, whatever is the original timecode of the clip), but I thought date and time were preserved even if not visible in FCE. Never checked dates myself though.
Have you tried with iMovie ? but probably going back to iMovie from FCE for this purpose is no longer an option for you.

  • Render and record, export to tape question?

    Hi,
I have finished a ten minute HDV project.
I now want to export to tape. (HDV Sony V1e) When I hit export - tape then hit the render and record box. This then brings up the Export to HDV (transcoding to HDV) box.
The problem I have is that 10 min project trancodes for about ten minutes then just goes back to the render and record dialogue box, without the exporting to tape.
I then tried exporting a smaller chunk (25seconds) and this renders in about three minutes and exports fine!!
So, I think my camera etc is fine.
Why won't my ten min movie render and record?
Sometimes it does give me a low memory warning too. I have set the preference from performance to memory already.
    Please help!
    thanks
    scott

    Hi Scott,
I am having this very same problem.
Did you manage to solve it? If so, how??
I've been trying to figure it out for the past 5 days and it's driving me crazy!!!
I exported a 3 minutes sequence and it exported to tape fine. But when I tried to do the entire film - 55 minutes - it began the 'transcoding' then just stopped and went back to the 'render and record' pop up without any error message or anything.
I am trying to get from CS3 to a Sony HDV deck.
    Thanks,
    Alicia

I am using ION U Record vinyl/tape converter which uses itunes.  I can record the track but it does not upload content onto itunes.

  • When video taping on my ipad mini, I sometimes get a yellow rectangular box at the top of the screen after which I can't record when I tap the record button.

I do a lot of video taping on my ipad mini. Sometimes after I stop & try to start recording again, I get a yellow rectangular box at the top of the screen and can't record. If I keep taping the yellow box it disappears & I can video, but I've missed some taping time. I know there were some letters in the box,but I've never written down what they were.

The letters are AE/AF lock. If memory serves me well it's auto exposure/ auto focus lock. Practice with the camera in photo mode. Hold your finger on the item you want to focus on, a rectangle will appear, keep holding your finger on the screen till the rectangle enlarges twice. AE/AF should appear, the item should be in focus and stop going in and out of focus. Tap the screen to get rid of AE/AF.

  • Problems recording back to tape from FCE

I can't figure this out. For some reason when I go to record my video back to tape, either throught print to video or directly recording off the timeline, the video breaks up, gets digitized, and sometimes the sound freezes.
My set up is a 15" iMac running FCE HD 3.0 with two daisy-chained external hard drives (one for video and one for music). I have a firewire connection to a Panasonic gs-500.
Everything is rendered, the audio is mixed down and I have even tried shutting everything down and then restarting fresh with camcorder on and plugged in.
    Any ideas?

    Hi(Bonjour)!
With my iMac G4 1 Go ram, I had this kind of problem, ruining my print to video operation.
So, I develop a simple"protocol" to avoid this:
Do a cold start of your mac, turn on your camcorder, plug it. Start FCE, open just one project, and just the sequence to be exported, select all clips in timeline, render it, do an audio mixdown and... (here's the magic) scroll the playhead from beginning to the end of the sequence, with some playing .(it's seem that this process load the cache memory, at least in my own experience)
This procedure always works for me...
If there is a song bought on iTune Music Store, you can't use this track.
Try a test version with just one minute of movie. (set in and out point in timeline and do the print to tape operation).
Does your hard drives are fragmented or full at more than 80% level?
As said earlier, Firewire ports on G4 iMac are connected together and the handling of two HDs plus a camcorder may drive you into problems.
Try a new project with just one drive, or simply the internal one.
