Record via usb?

i have a dj set up with an allen & heath mixer with an rcs audio out and want to know if it is true i can record via usb through garageband as i have been told?
many thanks

AFAIK the standard Windows USB audio driver doesn't permit simultaneous sound from the USB source and other sources - e.g. a youtube video. So to hear the turntable would also disconnect other needed inputs. Nor does it permit USB and the Creative sound source to be in tandem.
OTOH when USB is selected in Audacity I can have the USB driver active and my SB Xi-fi music card will still deliver sound from the turntable AND remaining sources.
In Audution 3 however once the USB driver is selected the SB driver is active in the sense of being seen in the record window, but not picked up or put to the SB output. ASIO4ALL has not solved this - though it looked promising at first.

    Dear Community,
how can I connect SCSI tape recorder via USB to iMac ?
Is there any adapter/converter on the market now ?
    Cheers, Marek

    Thanks Jan.
Actually the reason to use Quantum SCSI tape recorder is to back-up big amount of data (propriety movies footage) both on PC (what is quite easy, using SCSII host adapter with VHDCI 68 connector) and iMac what seems to be not easy. All my search by Google leads to that conclussion, they finished production of SCSI-to-USB or FireWire because somebody stopped to produce chips to covert protocols. So even buying noe second-hand adapter, no guaranty it's still working with Lion (nobody is developing drivers anymore). Strange is, nobody or just a few are using SCSII (Ultra 320) devices (while the transfer is not bad, 320 MBps what is 2560 Mbps, so the only limitation is tape recording (some 80 MBps) not an interface. Using compression mode I can (and I do) record 1,6 TB of footage data. However quite slow, is safe and cheap, comparing with any HD storage solution. USB 2 is much more limited.
I'm using Time Capsule for buck-up. But even 3 TB one day will be full of data, then old back-ups will be eaten by new once, what is not good idea for archives. I'm using another 2TB NAS HD (2x2TB RAID 1), but this is also going to be full soon.
Of course, you are right, the option is another machine (OSX,Win,Linux or Solaris) equipped with SCSII controller. But this requires another machine, just for back-up time to time, and in practice iMac folders must be shared with that small auxiliary machine because amount of data practically excluding even temporary data collection on auxiliary machine. And it must be transfer by wire, not WIFI, my only network. Tape recording is in my case really good, professional solution, isn't it?
Anyway, if somebody has similar requirements as me, and found the solution for SCSI, please let me know. So far, follow Jan's idea, I'm thinking about some embeded mini PC, fanless, equipped with slot for SCSI, with SOME smart system on-board, to deal with iMac for type recording. The option is previous Apple model, but to be honest, I became Mac/OSX user 4 years ago. I fell in love with Mac, but my knowledge about previous models is based on Google....
My desk becomes full of boxes. Do you know how big Quantum TC-L42BX is ? Is very big. And now another box.....another keyboard....another screen... And one small adapter could solve the problem. Eh....
    Best regards,
    Marek

I wish to do synchronized note-taking and FM recording with MS "OneNote" on a tablet PC.
l have previously used a portable FM radio and a 3.5mm lead into the Tablet's mike input to do this.
This is obviously a bit cumbersome, so the N200's USB connection looks like an attracti've alternati've.
Can anyone tell me whether the N200 will support direct PC recording of FM radio in this way?

No. When the n200 is hooked up to the usb port, it can only be used as an external storage device. You could run a cable from the n200's headphone jack to the computer's audio input when the n200 is not hooked up to the usb port of the pc.

  • Captivate Video Recording via web cam?

Is it possible to do Captivate Video Recording via USB web cam? All I can see so far is about its ability to record screens and applications, but not do an actual video recording via a video camera input. Audio is no problem allowing you to insert audio from a file or do a live audio insert. Video however seems limited to insert from a file only. This would seem to imply you need a separate video recording application to capture video via a camera input, which is obviously disappointing if that's the case.

Thanks. Hopefully they will add this basic functionality to Captivate ASAP. It's a missing fundamental element. i.e. to be able to add video annotation to your slides. Lectora Publisher does it and so should Captivate in my view, given it's supposed to be among or overall ahead of the leading products. Seamless audio / video annotation is a very common requirement nowadays.

I can't record sound from  mixer Behringer X1622USB using USB out. when I connect the mixer to iMac via USB  appears USB Audio CODEC on Sound and Preferences but I can't get no sound from mixer to iMac only sound from iMac to mixer. I only can record sound using microphone line in. Please help.

    Eric,
Thanks for your reply. Realtek audio works only in playback. There is a stereo mix in the mixer but the recording controls are not operable with no sliders in the mixer for any recording option. Slider controls appear to be grayed out. Can't figure out how to enable them. Downloaded newest drivers to no avail.
The M Audio control panel has no apparent option for recording stereo mix. Adobe ignores the sound from the DVD or CD and shows flatline.
I'm trying to record the sound from the DVD not rip the track.
When I go to Audio Driver Setup and select Audition 3.0 windows sound, there is no input device installed.
I'm thinking of going back to a decent internal Soundblaster card like I have on my 8 year old machine I am replacing.

  • Recording Sound via USB Port

How do I record sound from an audio tape into iTunes? Preferably via USB port,

iTunes does not record, so you will need other software to record from your tape. There are a number of audio recording applications available, depending on your needs, including GarageBand, Audacity and many more. Whether any will record a USB device will depend at least somewhat on the device you will be using.

  • IPOD CONNECTIVITY PROBLEM WITH WINDOWS XP VIA USB 2.0

    Enough is enough.
I have an ipod touch and I am having difficulty connecting it to my pc via usb 2.0.
I have searched the entire web and came across many cases similar or the same as mine. It's time for apple to face the fact that there is something wrong with either the apple mobile service or the apple usb drivers or the itunes software that causes connectivity problems with win xp.
For the record my case is this:
I got my itouch 3 days ago. I installed itunes 8.0. Then I plugged in my ipod to a usb extension cable port connected to a usb at the back of my desktop computer. At first I got the "this usb device can perform faster if you plug it to a usb 2.0 port etc." message. So I did. I removed the extension cable and connected it directly to one of the usb ports at the back. The first time it synchronized, it seemed fine. So I decided before I do anything with it, to update it to the 2.1 version. I made my account and bought (very bad policy there apple, it should be free or at least cheeper than 8 euro) the 2.1 update. I clicked to update the i-touch. While it was updating it crashed during the restore process (because it was disconnected but I didn't know that at the time). I unplugged it, resetted and plugged it back and managed to continue the restoring process until it was updated. After figuring out itunes I chose the "manage files manually option", kept everything unchecked in the sync options except the applications. I noticed there were random disconnections here and there but I didn't pay much attention because they weren't very frequent.
The next day I plug in the touch again and suddenly I hear that annoying "connecting-disconnecting" sound from windows while my touch kept disappearing and reappearing in itunes. Suddenly my playlists disappeared from the touch. Nothing was in the touch any more. How could that happen since i had chosen to manage my files manually instead of synchronizing? So I unplugged the touch again, restarted the touch, restarted the pc, stopped and restarted the apple mobile service, unistalled and reinstalled itunes, searched microsoft support and read many usb troubleshooting documents in the web. Nothing happened. The touch randomly keeps disconnecting from the usb. I eventually managed to put my stuff back in and keep them there.
    Here's what I know:
    1) There is nothing wrong with my usb ports. I don't use usb hubs, they are usb 2.0, the voltage (500mA) is correct in the device manager. Everything else works fine there.
    2) The ipod touch does not support disk mode so you can't see it under "my computer" and this is not a problem.
3)There is nothing wrong with the ipod, it works perfectly.
    4) This is not a usb cable physical problem.
    5) The five R's are irrelevant with this situation.
Uninstalling and reinstalling itunes doesn't solve the problem, neither does hard resetting the ipod.
    6) Older PC configurations seem to be more affected by this but it doesn't have to do with unsupported specific chipsets.
    Here's what needs investigating:
    1) There may be a problem with the apple mobile service running on win XP.
    2) There may be a problem with the apple usb driver and win XP or older motherboards.
    3) There may be a 2.1 firmware issue with usb 2.0 connectivity.
Workaround so you don't go nuts:
Use USB 1.1 instead of 2.0. It is A LOT slower but it keeps the connection stable and you can work with the ipod. Just start copying and go do something else for the next hour. So far it works for me.
This is a serious issue that needs immediate attention. I've stumbled across forum discussions dating to 2005 with this problem (with older ipods of course).

I think this needs to be put down to the eternal PC/Mac argument. Apple dont want to fix this as they want everyone to buy a Mac. Its a business, understandable, but in turning away PC buyers they alienate a huge percentage of the market.
Now, I had my first iTouch stolen. It synced, for the most part, very well, just occasionally it removed settings and music, but ticking boxes each time I sync'd sorted that, Its a workflow procedure.
SO, now that my Touch has been replaced, iTunes cannot see it. The PC can identify it on USB1 or USB2, My work lap top can see it and has indeed upgraded it to V2 software, just in case that was the issue, but no. For some really weird reason Itunes on my desktop cannot see the new pod.
This does not make sense with the argument that Apple software doesnt work on a PC, but doesnt help that none of the Apple support staff, phone or in-store have a clue about Windows operations.
Because my Touch has now been trying to connect to 6 separate installs of itunes, multiple USB ports, multiple USB cables, a complete overhaul of the registry settings (everything else still works), and the loss of all my previous settings and backups from the last Touch... but still, the PC says its an ipod but cant install it, iTunes sits there, dumb.
The only thing I can do now is sell the device as brand new as it has never had music on it and is just a week old...
It has changed the MiniMac I was going to have for my new flat screen TV into a PC and suggests that anyone with a PC should stick to devices that run on PC, of which there are many, just without the user interface of the dear departed IPod Touch.
    Thanks

  • Contacts created on iPhone won't sync with exchange, only via USB

When I create a new contact on my iPhone from within the phone app, it doesn't get synced to my exchange server, in fact it doesn't show up anywhere in the contacts app or under contacts in the phone app. If I create a new contact from the contacts app it only allows me to create it in my exchange contacts folder but it does sync properly. When I create a contact from within the phone app I am not given a choice of group at all and unless I have a recent call from that contact, it is nowhere to be found on my phone or computer. So the question is how do I get new contacts created on my phone from within the phone app to sync with exchange? The only way I have been able to sync contacts created within the phone app thus far has been with iTunes via USB which works fine but I want to sync contacts bidirectionally via exchange ota.
    Thanks for any help

I have more information to share.
When you launch the Contacts app on the iPhone, hit the "Groups" button in the top left. What I see on that page are these 3 sections:
    All Contacts >
    From My Mac
    All From My Mac >
    Group A >
    Group B >
    Group C >
    etc
    Foobar (Exchange)
    Foobar Global Address List >
After many hours of trial and error, I have come to the understanding that the iPhone Contacts app has potentially multiple data stores which seem to correspond to each sync source configured (eg AddressBook, Exchange, etc.) Refering to my example above, I have enabled Contacts syncing with my AddressBook (via iTunes) and an Exchange mail account, so my iPhone shows 2 separate sections with the generic "All Contacts" appearing as the first section at the top.
Entering the contact listings page via the "All Contacts" button will show an integrated list of contacts from all sync sources (in my case, two: contacts from AddressBook on my Mac and contacts from my Foobar Exchange account).
If you click the "+" button to add a new contact when you have entered the listing page via "All Contacts", it seems the record is only stored on the iPhone and does NOT get sync'd. Specifically, it does not get synced to the Mac AddressBook nor to the Exchange account.
However, if you have entered the listings page via any group in the "From My Mac" section or "Foobar (Exchange)" section, and create a new contact via the "+" button there, that contact DOES get sync'd to the appropriate sync source (AddressBook or Exchange in my case).
Furthermore, if you enter the listings page via a specific group in the "From My Mac" section (eg "Group A") and create a new contact from in there, it will appear in "Group A" in AddressBook after sync. If you enter the listings page via the generic "All From My Mac" button, then the new contact will be added to whatever group you have specified in iTunes (under the iPhone Info tab etc. as mentioned in the prior post).
All up, I guess, there may not be a bug here after all. I must simply always remember to add new contacts when I am in the "All From My Mac" section, if I want them to be synced to my Mac.
However, I do think that it's a confusing and poor user experience (and may lead to loss of data) if you add new contacts from the generic "All Contacts" entry point, because they will NOT be synced as you'd expect them to. I am guessing this also might only happen when you have multiple sync sources defined, simply because the app doesn't know which sync source to associate them with: AddressBook or Exchange? But, at the point of adding that new contact, the app should prompt you for the sync source to use, or at least WARN you that your contact is going to be an orphan record solely residing forever more on your iPhone. If you ever reset your iPhone those contact records would be lost forever.

  • Flir T600 via USB

    Hello
We have the Flir T600 camera, the Flir Toolkit (3.3.10) for Labview (2014) and the SDK from Flir. The camera can only be connected via USB. I have also tried to install IMAQ, but I can`t find the tools in Labview, the tools of the Toolkit are there. Do I need IMAQdx or the complete VAS for this camera or is IMAQ enough? How do I get the tools?
I want to get the images or record a video, set mesurement points and read out the data.
    Thanks for your help!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Ok, this information brings light into the issue.
The NI-IMAQ driver should appear in LabVIEW in the palett "Vision and Motion". See screenshot.
The latest version of this driver with support for LabVIEW 2014 can be found here:
NI Vision Acquisition Software February 2015 - National Instruments
    http://www.ni.com/download/ni-vision-acquisition-software-february-2015/5149/en/
The Vision Acquisition Software provides the NI-IMAQ, the NI-IMAQdx and the NI-IMAQ I/O driver. You can tell the installer to only install NI-IMAQ. It is important to tell the installer to install support for LabVIEW 2014 (the screenshot is from another version of the installer, so don't be confused).
Can you find not the IMAQ palette in LabVIEW?

  • Can I transfer 720p video via USB cable

Hi Everyone, technology has changed so much since updating to my recent Pro Mac. I want to transfer my current video and pictures from my Nikon CoolPix L120 to FCP. I'm not sure what the best route to take would be. Either a memory Card  or hook my camera directly to the computer via USB cable. The footage I want to trasfer is 720P. Mainly I want to transfer the footage to clear my card to store and clear space to record more footage of family events. Thank You all for your time. Oh yeah can USB handle a trasfer of 720p or will I need a HDMI or component to accomplish this task
    Thanks
    Jeff

Sure it can do it...all you'll be doing is copying over the contents of the card.  Like you do any other data file.  Make a new folder on your hard drive (separate from your system drive...this will be your ARCHIVE drive), and then drag and drop the ENTIRE CONTENTS of the SD card.  Keep everything intact.  That's all you do...copy.
BUT THEN...you need to transcode that to ProRes, as FCP will not work with the files as they exist now. It might seem like it will, but it won't.  use Compressor or MPEG STREAMCLIP to convert to ProRes, and put those files on yet ANOTHER drive (media drive) for editing.

You were wise to test your camcorder's connection with "manycam," but, of course, iMovie is different.
I am not certain I completely understand your question(s), but this iMovie Help info may give you the information you need to get sorted:
    (1) Recording (capture) directly into iMovie is done as explained here:
      http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iMovie/8.0/en/10172.html
As explained in the first sentence, you need a Firewire rather than USB external camera to record directly into iMovie:
You can record video directly into iMovie using your computer’s built-in iSight camera or a FireWire-equipped camera or camcorder.
As you have found, your built-in iSight can capture directly into iMovie even though it it a USB device.
    (2) Importing video into iMovie is explained here:
      http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iMovie/8.0/en/11497.html
A compatible camcorder that connects via USB can capture video, but the actual capture for these camcorders is done in the device rather than directly into iMovie.
    (3) If iMovie is not recognizing your camcorder, consider the troubleshooting help here:

  • Clicks and popping with recording and USB interface-HELP!!!

I've submitted this twice, got some responses, but has twice been ignored into oblivion. I apologize for the reposts, but this is VERY IMPORTANT, and I've been struggling with this issue for MONTHS now dealing with countless hours of lost time trying to fix it to no avail.
I'll try to include as much detail as possible.
    I use:
    MacPro 2 x 2.66 Dual-Core Intel Xeon
    3 GB memory
    Logic Express 8.0.2
245.13 GB empty space on Hard Drive
    THE PROBLEM:
    When I record, I get computerized clips/pops
    http://www.moogiex.com/clickpop.mp3
    http://www.moogiex.com/morecackling.mp3
I record via a PreSonus Audiobox USB. This problem did NOT start when I got the AudioBox, but several months after.
When I simply monitor the sound going through the box, the sound is fine. It's something between the Box, and the computer output. My guess is some incompatibility with Logic Express or Core Audio and the AudioBox.
It is NOT the microphone or the cable (the pops occur with anything going in, 1/4", XLR, different inputs).
The clicks START with Logic Express. If there are any recording program open when Logic Express is open, and I record, I get the SAME pops.
It did this both under 10.5.6, 10.5.7, and now 10.5.8.
    It is NOT clipping.
    When I'm recording with LE:
—There's 1.27 GB of FREE Memory while I'm recording.
—Logic Express is only using 6.7% of CPU while recording (of only one of the four processors), and about 90-95% of CPU space is free on all four processors.
—This happens on ANY audio input, and it doesn't matter how many other tracks, how long it is. I just started a brand new file and it does it.
—This happens when I use ANY input into my computer, but is STARTED by LE.
    Here are my Logic Preferences
    Core Audio- ENABLED
    System Memory Requirement 66.0 MB
    Device: AudioBox USB
    I/O Buffer Size: 1024
    I/O Safety Buffer- UNchecked
    Recording Delay: 0 samples
    Universal Track Mode- CHECKED
    24 Bit Recording- CHECKED
    Software Monitoring- CHECKED
    Independent Monitoring Level- Checked
    Process Buffer Range: Large
ReWire Behavior: Live Mode (Higher CPU Load)
    Maximum Scrub Speed: Normal
    Scrub Response: Normal
There is *no* driver with PreSonus' AudioBox. It is simply "compatible." Here's what System Profiler says:
AudioBox USB (plugged into my Mac Pro's front bottom port):
    Product ID: 0x0301
    Vendor ID: 0x194f
    Version: 1.08
    Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec
    Manufacturer: PreSonus Audio
    Location ID: 0x00200000
    Current Available (mA): 500
    Current Required (mA): 500
    Here's what I've tried:
—Disabling CoreAudio, shutting LE 8 off, restarting LE 8, enabling CoreAudio again. This worked ONCE. It hasn't worked since.
—Disabling CoreAudio, shutting LE 8 off, SHUTTING DOWN, RESTARTING, opening LE 8, enabling CoreAudio again. This also worked ONCE. It hasn't worked since.
    —"CPU Saving Mode"
—I/O Buffer to 256, 512, and 1024 (default) (IMPORTANT?—speed of popping actually INCREASES with larger buffer?)
—I/O Safety Buffer checked and unchecked
    —Changing Recording Delay samples
—Pretty much fiddling with any of the controls
—Disabling Airport does nothing (was previously working fine with Airport running)
—Quit all applications, open up QuickTime (pro) or Audacity, and record something. It records perfectly. I go back to LE and the clicks and pops are gone, but only until I use anything with effects, then the clicks and pops return. This works SOMETIMES.
—Reset the preferences, and that has worked ONCE, and then the clicks and pops came back (albeit not as prominent, but they were still there).
—I trashed all files related to Logic and reinstalled. Worked ONCE.
—Restarting does help, but only temporarily, as soon as any pull is put on Logic, the problems return.
—Using a different USB port. I thought this was the solution because the problem shortly went away with regular use of Logic, but problem came back.
—Uninstalling Logic, Reinstalling Logic Express, same deal.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE HELP. I have a lot of money sunk into all this equipment that's practically useless with this recording issue.

Man, I feel for you on this.
I would love to see what your pops and clicks look like in your waveform. If you can take a snapshot of it and post the pic here that might help the diagnosis.
Your audio files certainly SOUNDS like you have a clocking problem. It really sounds like your CoreAudio driver/MacPro and your USB interface are not locked up in sync - as in: which is master and which is slave? I know some interfaces include a software control panel that allows you to set the status of the interface clock to slave to the computer or to be the master. It sounds like yours doesn't come with drivers but is there any control panel for this Presonus device?
Another place to check is in Applications>Utilities>Audio Midi Setup
On the left under "Properties for <your interface>" what does it say for the clock source?
Also in this panel, to the right it should have a button for "configure device". What happens when you click it? For example in my case it automatically launches my Apogee Duet Maestro control panel. In your case it might launch something similar, although I think you mention that you never installed anything, which I find strange to begin with - that this thing should just work out of the box with no driver at all.
I've struggle with w similar problem with my Apogee Duet, although nothing of this magnitude, maybe 4 or 5 clicks per 3 minutes of audio and these turn out to always be sample drops where 5-10 samples in a row are all the same in the waveform, as if my interface and computer stopped talking for a milli second. I did find that if my Apogee Duet was chosen as the default or system output in the Audio Midi Control Panel I mentioned above then the clicking was more frequent, as if choosing the audio interface for any system output caused a conflict with choosing it for Logic. I thought this was strange but you might want to investigate that further too.
At any rate, it does sound like a digital clock syncing issue to me by the sound of your audio. What effect does changing the sample rate of the recording have on the problem?
Let me know if any of this leads to anything.

  • Edirol M-16DX problem via USB

I've got an Edirol M-16DX digital mixer that's hooked to my iMac via USB.
I can play things on my iMac and the sound goes to the M-16DX just fine.
But when I try to record anything from the M-16DX into the iMac, I can't get a signal.
I've tried GarageBand 09, LogicPro 9, Soundtrack Pro, and several simple sound recording utilities.
When I try to record using the internal mic, it works fine.
But when I select the M-16DX as the INPUT DEVICE, all of the input controls are disabled and I cannot get any signal or levels to show up in the software.
This thing has 18 inputs and 2 outputs. I've got the latest V2.0 driver installed.
The problem is not the M-16DX, as it works as expected when I plug it into my laptop running Windows.

I got on the phone with someone from Roland support and he walked me through this in Logic Pro, and by golly, it worked! I swear I did the exact same thing before and it did NOT work, but now it does. What can I say...
