Record Video in iMovie 09 with Audio From Garageband

Hi guys,
I'm trying to record a guitar video using iMovie 09 and am having a few problems.
I plugged my POD X3 into my Mac and opened up Garageband, I imported the backing track into Garageband as I wanted to record myself playing over it. I set the audio in both System Preferences and Garageband preferences to have the audio input and output coming through the POD X3.
I hit record on iMovie and I got the sound of my guitar perfectly but no backing track! When I tried to import the backing track into iMovie I can't get it to sync up... Anyone have any ideas?

???? Why are you hitting record in iMovie?? It has nothing to do with GB!
I thing what you want to do is: Import the backing track into iMovie and place it in the project as needed.
To record yourself in iMovie, use Voice Over:
http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#imovie-voiceover
Otherwise, record yourself as an instrument in GB and export the combined backing track and yourself to a single audio file (i.e. Share to iTunes - uncompressed - and your recording will be available directly from the iMovie media browser). Place the combined file where you need it in the iMovie project. This gives you that advantage of having access the GB amp modeler and stomp boxes.

    Hi Life93,
What you describe would be possible by recording your video, then removing the audio from it and adding audio from GarageBand once the video is in iMovie (I presume here that you are using iMovie for your video production. Other applications may need different methods.)

  • CS5.5--Issues with audio from imported avi's & issues exporting

    To Start, my laptop:
    CPU: Intel® Core ™ i7-2330QM CPU @ 2.00 GHz
    CPU Clock Frequency: 2.00 GHz
    System Memory: 8 GBytes
    Cache Memory: 1 MBytes/6 Mbytes
    Manufacturer: Sony Corporation
    Model name: VPCF226FM
    BIOS VERSION: R1190V#
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
    ME Version: 7.0.10.1203
    System Type: 64-bit Operating System
I downloaded the 30-day free trial of Premiere Pro CS5.5 with all updates.  To play with the program, for my own personal amusement, I wanted to edit together pieces from a bunch of avi videos that I know to play properly outside the program, tested on more than one computer.
At first, importing the files seemed to be no problem, making subclips as I went along.
However, as I continued to import files, there began to be a sound issue--sometimes the sound not being present till I was 1/3 of the way through the clip, sometimes the sound seemingly playing catch up with audio that should be earlier in the video appearing later, sometimes the sound wouldn't come up at all, and still other times I'd be, for example, on video 5 when pieces of audio from video 2 would start playing over the current video.
I initially thought it may just be a memory issue, working with many large video files.
But later, when I went to edit the subclips I made, I found that many of them no longer had sound, even if they did when I initially subclipped them.
Weirdly, in the timeline, there is no consistency, as clips will appear in the video track but only some show audio tracks too.  But those with audio tracks don't always play audio and those that show NO audio tracks at all actually do play audio sometimes.  Also, those that show audio tracks and don't play them sometimes will show waveforms, sometimes don't.  A clip with no waveform may not play 95% of the time, but then occasionally will suddenly have the waveform and play a couple times before reverting back to no audio.
A suitable solution for this personal amusement project would just be to drop a new soundtrack over the thing but, before I even got that far, I tried exporting as avi's and mpeg4's but then get error messages such as:
Premiere Pro has encountered an error.
    [..\..\Src\Win\WinFile.cpp-785]
    Error compiling movie.
    Unknown error.
In case it was a memory issue, I tried starting a new project, only importing 2 videos, but had the same audio and exporting issues.
I'm getting really frustrated as I spent a lot of time importing/subclipping and then even more time prepping before that.
For those who are bound to ask, while new to Premiere, I'm not a novice with editing.  I've used Final Cut Pro at work for many years (without such issues).
    Thanks for your help.

I'm making a short movie and want to add narrative audio i recorded in garageband to movie clips i have in adobe premiere cs5, i have the latest garageband and i'm recording audio via the built in imac microphone. Also, if this is difficult to do with garageband, what other programs would you recommend to use, that are free prefibly? Thanks in advanced !!

  • How to I synchronize video from Imovie and audio from garageband?

I recorded the audio in Garageband and the video thru my video camera. I then captured the video in Imovie and attached the audio to the project from garageband. I can't seem to be able to synchronize both.I clicked on the green area and clicked "trim" and when the waveform appeared, I moved the handle back and forth, but video and audio never synced. I also went to my project and tried to pull the video or the audio back and forth, but it also never synced.
What are the steps to take to achieve this?

If you want the video and audio to automatically sync, Final Cut Pro X is the tool of choice, but it is more expensive than iMovie, and it has a big learning curve.
With iMovie, you can still do this by showing the wave forms and lining them up visually. There is a nuance that in iMovie, you must have video. You cannot have sound that exists outside a video element. For you, this means that if your GB track is the same length or longer than your iMovie video track, you cannot shift it side to side. This is easily fixed by adding some dummy clips before and after your video so there is room to slide the track back and forth. You can find these "Black Background" clips (and others) under the Maps tab.
I recently had to sync up some audio with video. Here is a post that explains in detail how I did it. It may help. Unfortunately, in my case, I was syncing the audio from 2 cameras. This is easier than syncing video with an audio track, but some of the tricks may still apply.
If anything still does not make sense, please ask.
One more thing. When you have an audio track like one created in GB, it is not simple in iMovie to delete a chunk of it and delete the corresponding video at the same time. Once again, this is a task better suited for Final Cut Pro X.  It is possible to export your movie to the Media Browser and then continue editing it in GB, so that may be an option for you.

  • Synching audio from GarageBand to video in iMovie

I'm a musician, and I'm recording a song in GarageBand. I'd like to make a simple music video of me singing with guitar, but that requires that I be able to synch the audio I've recorded along with the video. In other words, I want the words in the song to come out of my mouth at the same time. Anyone?

DVDs are in a socalled delivery format (mpeg2), which isn't meant and made for any processing as editing...
for using the iLife apps, you have to convert'em first, in recommended order, choose one of the following tools/workarounds:
    * DVDxDV (free trial, 25$, Pro: 90$)
    * Apple mpeg2 plugin (19$) + Streamclip (free)
    * Cinematize >60$
    * Mpeg2Works >25$ + Apple plug-in
    * Toast 6/7/8 allows converting to dv/insert dvd, hit apple-k
    * connect a miniDV Camcorder with analogue input to a DVD-player and transfer disk to tape/use as converter
none of these apps override copyprotection mechanisms as on commercial dvds...

  • How can I record an Adobe meeting with audio from BT MeetMe?

I am trying to record an Adobe Connect meeting however would like to record the audio from a BT MeetMe conference. Is there a way to tie the two together?

You may be able to use the Universal Voice tool. When logged into Connect Central, go to My Profile > My Audio Providers > New Provider. Put in the relevant information for calling into your BT confrence bridge.
Full instructions on filling in the fields can be found here (you don't need to do this in the Admin section though): http://www.connectusers.com/tutorials/2009/11/uv_admin_setup/
Then when that process is done, go to My Audio Prioviders, in My Profile and select New Profile. Select the profile you just created and click Save. Then, at the bottom of the Edit page for your meeting room, you should have the option to integrate  your BT phone bridge into the connect room.
You can connect the phone bridge via the Audio menu in the meeting room, and if everyone is going to be on the phone, I would disable the audio broadcast for the bridge, so attendees don't hear the audio through their phone and computer. The audio will still be recorded with the presentation.

  • Exporting video with audio from composition....

I'm working on commercials, and I ran into an issue when I tried to Export Audio to Movie.
I'll select a format, save to a folder, Logic will say "bouncing..." and act like it's attaching the audio from my track to the original video. But when I watch the video that is produced, only the audio from the movie is there (or it is completely silent, depending on if I chose to include original track audio).
What is going on? It seems nobody else has this issue...

    look here :
FILE / Export Audio to movie
then, unselect the original 2 stereo track if it imported on the arrange window ( unselect the 2 track of the Qt movie by clicking outside the selection )

  • Video not in sync with audio or vice-versa

This is a last ditch effort to try to find some definitive help.  Everyone has a sad story when things go awry with video capture.  Here's mine:  I recommended the Apple platform and iMovie for my wife for documenting a how-to for a particular hair style transition.  Something she can't recapture.  We used a MacBook Pro's built-in camera. All went well until she noticed from the beginning of the daily captures that the audio and video would fall out of sync within clips shortly after she started.  After she was done and mentioned it, I discovered that the six or so clips that make up the project varied in their frame rates (project is set to 30).  One clip with a frame rate of 28 is fine, but the rest have slower frame rates.  The total project length is approximately 15-20 min....
Detaching the audio from the video and exporting to QuickTime (as suggested by most) makes no difference. I've also seen suggestions about moving the content to MPEG Steamclip and doing "something" with it but I'm not video editing savvy so exactly "what" nyone is supposed to do via that solution is an unknown..
I've been all ofver the web searching for a way to change all of the clip's frame rates to 30 fps since the one clip at 28 frames is acceptable.  A foregone conclusion.  However, I can't seem to find a way to do this anywhere.
Would really like to rescue the two weeks worth of work my wife put into this effort.
    Any/all help appreciated thanks.

The basic problem you are facing is the use of the internal camera. It is designed for simple web cam usage rather than movie making. If you are making a Face Time call, the variable frame rate helps you, because when there is not a lot of movement, it will slow down the frames and give you better performance at a lower bandwidth. If the audio is a little off you do not care.
Long term, you can solve this by using a camcorder that shoots at a constant framerate.
For your immediate problem, I think that the suggestion to use MPEG Streamclip was a good one.
Basically, you would be dragging in this file with the variable frame rate and using MPEG Streamclip to save it out as a file with a constant framerate. You should now have a file at 30 fps with audio to match, within reason.
Try dragging your clip into MPEG Streamclip. Click the PLAY button so you can see that it plays. Then FILE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME. For Compression, choose Apple Intermediate Codec. Leave the sound setting as Uncompressed. In the Frame Rate box, type 30. Click the check box for Frame Blending. Deselect the box that says Interlaced Scaling.
Finally, click the MAKE MOVIE button, and give at a name. Save it to a location where you can find it. You can then import this into iMovie if you want, but using FILE/IMPORT MOVIE in iMovie.

  • Recording video using external iSight and audio using wired input

I would like to be able to record video using an external iSight camera I have from my old powerbook, but I don't want the audio to record through the internal microphone...I want it to record through a wired input coming off a mixer...is this possible?

    Welcome to iMovie Discussions.
"..is this possible?.." ..I don't think so. By connecting an external FireWire iSight camera, iMovie expects both the vision and the sound to come in down the same FireWire cable.
If you need to use a separate audio input, you may be able to do it by connecting a FireWire-capable camcorder (..a tape-based miniDV or HDV camcorder which uses a FireWire connection to attach to a Mac..) and then feeding your mixer's output to the camcorder's external-mic input ..at very low volume, of course, so that you don't wreck the camcorder's input.
This entails using a camcorder which does have an external-mic (or line) input. That way, the picture from the camcorder will go straight into iMovie, as will the audio which is being fed into the camcorder ..thus both reaching iMovie via the camera's FireWire connection.

  • Major Problem with audio from Final Cut to DVd Studio Pro

I am posting this problem again because no further responses have been received regarding my first post. I purchased an MR-HD100 Firestore device from Focus Enhancements. When I use clips from it alone or with other clips created by digitizing from min DV tape on a sequence or timeline the audio works fine in Final Cut. When I import any type of file and believe me I have been trying all kinds of suggestions and wasting almost a dozen DVDs. Whether it be a Final Cut QT file, going straight to compressor and producing an MPEG-2 file and a dolby audio file .ac3 importing them into DVD SP and making the adjustments that MR. Harbsmeier suggested DIAL NORM at -31dbfs and COMPRESSION MODE to NONE, as well as the suggestion to make an aif file with the audio and importing it into DVD SP as well as the video. I get the same result with every try, the clips made with the firestore are so low you cannot hear them. NOTHING WORKS!!!!. And yes I have tried making a DVD with just digitized footage and yes it turned out fine. I called Apple support today and that gentlemen basically told me I am out of warranty so phone help was not available. However, he made a suggestion of changing sequence presets in Final Cut which has now developed into another problem. I have messed up my settings so bad I don't know where I am I can't LOG & CAPTURE in the manner I used to ???? Could someone please advise as to why this problem exists and the correction to resolve it. I do not understand why the audio works fine playing the sequence on the timeline in Final Cut. It plays fine after making a Final Cut QT file. AND it plays fine in simulation mode in DVD Studio Pro. However after you burn a DVD the audio from the firestore clips are not to be heard unless you crank up the speakers or TV to it's maximum level and you can barely make it out. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME Projects are stacking up and was really hoping to go tapeless

Try building the project to your desktop and then open the Video_TS in the Mac DVD player application.
How does it play/sound?  This application is the best way to see and hear how your burned DVD should play vs. just using simulator and burning.
Just to clarify- are you taking your FC QT file into Compressor and creating a MPG-2 and AC3 file or are you bringing your FC QT directly into DSP?
What codec are you exporting from FC? ProRes422, DV, H264?
Open the FC QT in QT and apple+I to see this.
What does it say for audio?
