Record video using built in camera?

Is there any way to record video using the built in camera on the 1.83gh macbooks, i know you can use photobooth with the newer macbooks, but on the older macbooks photobooth does not allow you this option.
Any ideas?

You need Quick Time Pro to record video. QT Player does not allow this.

  • Recording video using external iSight and audio using wired input

    I would like to be able to record video using an external iSight camera I have from my old powerbook, but I don't want the audio to record through the internal microphone...I want it to record through a wired input coming off a mixer...is this possible?

    Welcome to iMovie Discussions.
    "..is this possible?.." ..I don't think so. By connecting an external FireWire iSight camera, iMovie expects both the vision and the sound to come in down the same FireWire cable.
    If you need to use a separate audio input, you may be able to do it by connecting a FireWire-capable camcorder (..a tape-based miniDV or HDV camcorder which uses a FireWire connection to attach to a Mac..) and then feeding your mixer's output to the camcorder's external-mic input ..at very low volume, of course, so that you don't wreck the camcorder's input.
    This entails using a camcorder which does have an external-mic (or line) input. That way, the picture from the camcorder will go straight into iMovie, as will the audio which is being fed into the camcorder ..thus both reaching iMovie via the camera's FireWire connection.

  • Hi I want to broadcast recorded video using flash encoder?

    Hi I want to broadcast recorded video using flash encoder, or their is any other way for broadcating recorded media files as live tv?

    Hi,
    You can do server side play of the recorded media file. After that once any one connects to that application, that file will be played as live. Following is the code to do this:
    var streamname="stream_name.flv"; //Name of the recorded media file
    application.onAppStart=function(){
              application.onNCA();
    application.onConnect=function(clientObj){
              application.acceptConnection(clientObj);
              trace("***Connected : "+isConnected);
    application.onNCA=function(){
              trace("onCA "+streamname);
              streamObj=Stream.get("foo");  // foo will be the live stream name
                        streamObj.onStatus = onStreamStatus;
                        trace("here "+streamname.split(".")[1]);
                        switch(streamname.split(".")[1]){
                                  case "mp4":
                                  case "3gp":
                                  case "f4v":
                                            streamPlayName="mp4:"+streamname;
                                            break;
                                  case "mp3":
                                            streamPlayName="mp3:"+streamname.split(".")[0];
                                            break;
                                  case "flv":
                                            streamPlayName=streamname.split(".")[0];
                                            break;
                        trace(streamPlayName);
                        streamObj.play(streamPlayName);
    function onStreamStatus(info){
              trace("Stream "+info.code);
    application.onDisconnect=function(clientObj){
              application.shutdown();
    Anyone connecting to above app will be able to play "foo" as livestream name.

  • Massive video/audio lag using built in camera

    Trying to make a simple video using the built in isight. When i try it using photo booth or imovie the video and audio are all out of sync and laggy. Computer is working at "best performance" setting with no other apps open...
    Opening the .mov file shows the result is out of sync on quicktime as well.

    Hello G E2
    You have made a good start and already considered a couple of the most likely possibilities that could have caused your problem:
     • CPU performance settings and
     • multiple apps running
    re: CPU performance setting: I am not certain, but your MBA may run even faster when it is connected to power that when running on battery, even with the processor performance setting configured for best performance. If you are not already running on AC power, do a test while plugged in and see if that helps.
    re: multiple apps: Consider the possibility of background widgets or apps that might be running. If you have not already tested this way, restart your Mac to eliminate possible widgets, quit all startup items, verify that Spotlight is not your indexing disk, and verify that no Time Machine backups are running. Then test video recording again.
    If you do not get your problem corrected otherwise, consider the relevant suggestions in this list of possibilites regarding A/V recording sync issues:
      http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7089133&#7089133
    Some of them may not be relevant to your MBA, but you may find something helpful there.
    If your problem is as bad after any actions you try from that list, when you post back for other ideas, give the details of any new info you found as a result of the additional checks / tests / actions. We will try to offer detailed suggestions in reply to your specific new info and questions.

  • I can't record video on my isight camera

    I have been trying to record video with my isight built-in camera and I can't get it to work. It says that I don't have a device that will record. What do I need to do? I have two MacBook's and neither one will record. I can use Photobooth but I can't record. HELP!!
    Thanks!!

    Hi Sue,
    I have iMovie 4.0.1 on my G4/1Ghz Dual Mirrored Doors running 10.4.9 and it will import/record from my Hollywood Dazzle DV converter
    AS I don't have an iSight I tend to think it will work for all Firewire cameras.
    iGlasses says it will help with USB cameras and iSights in several apps

  • Record video with built in iSight?

    My friend just got a new MacBook and we can't figure out if you can record video with the built in iSight. I know you can take pictures with Photo Booth, and from my research you can record video with the external iSight through iMovie. I figured you woud be able to do the same with the built in iSight, but when I open iMovie, it does not detect a camera. Can you not record video with the built in iSight or am I doing something wrong?
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4)

    When you open iMovie look at the switch under the screen. You will see a camera on the left of the switch and scissors on left. Flip the switch to the camera and the built in camera should come on. Then on the screen it will say record with isight. That starts the record.

  • Software for recording video with built in i-sight for new macbooks mbp?

    Does any software exist that will allow a macbook or a macbook pro user to record video with their built in isight camera at the top of the screen? If so, let me know. I need to document countless hours of reading the forums...

    iMovie will allow you to record from your built in iSight as well.
    Lastly, Conference Recorder will allow you to record iChat video conversations. It can be found here: http://www.ecamm.com/mac/conferencerecorder/

  • Unable to play recorded video using BB multimedia api in other platform

    Hi all,
    I am new to Blackberry application development. The application I am developing it is required to record a video using multimedia api.

    It is the same encoding combination BB curve use to record a video from default recorder.
    _player = Manager

    After recording it from my application I am able to play the video in vlc even in BB devices. But when I am trying toplay in android,J2ME and iPhone platform. It is unable to play the video..Can anybody help me out in this regard.
    I am really in trouble. I need your help .
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Angan

    In my experience if windows media player plays it(the mpeg4), it will not be compatiable with quicktime. At least if you do not go installing the codecs to read ISO mpeg 4 (.mp4 is the standard extension that quicktime puts on the files). Another thing to check is if you are creating ISO compliant files. The mpeg4s that windows media reads by default are not ISO compliant. You also need to keep in mind that Quicktime is a simple profile mp4 and main profile mp4 player (although not all b frames are compatable with quicktime). See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quicktime for a basic overview of the profile support. I suggest that you try playing the media with free softwares such as vlc http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ and mplayer http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/news.html and check that the format and codecs are correct. Although they will play non standard files they will list the codecs in use (make sure that you are using ISO compliant standards as you can put more than MPEG 4 in mp4).

  • Take a picture using built in camera

    I have a late-2011 MacBook Pro 15" and currently running Mac OS X version 10.7.4.
    How can I use the built in camera to take a picture?
    Where exactly is it stored?
    What is the file name?
    Thanks!

    Open Photo Booth and use that (it's in your Applications folder) or (hit commnad space bar and type "Photo Booth"),
    then export it to iPhoto then export it from there, or
    Print it in Photo Booth and save it as PDF, or open in Preview and take a Command Shift 4 screen shot of it into PGN or JPG format depending what you have set.
    Photo Booth stores it's files in the "your User"/Pictures/Photo Booth folder, you can acces the jpegs there too.
