Recorded TV in 16:9.  VOB file imported into Premier Elements as 4:3

I have imported a VOB file into Premier Elements.  It has been recorded in 16:9 format.  Unfortunately, when imported it converts to a 4:3.  Can some please explain why?
Tony

In the Project Panel, you can Rt-click on the Clip and choose Interpret footage. There, you can change things like Frame Rate, PAR (Pixel Aspect Ratio), and can also change how an Alpha Channel is used, should your footage have an Alpha Channel.
It can be useful, especially with regards to the PAR. Since Frame Size is the same for NTSC 4: 3 & 16:9, except for the PAR to display "regular," or WideScreen.
Good luck, and do check out how well your machine handles the Menuing functions. That is where many DVR's and VHS to DVD, plus much software deviates from the DVD-specs. Because the first .VOB contains Menus, as well as the first part of the MPEG-2 stream, it is usually where problems will arise. This is covered in that article. With programs, such as Adobe Encore, the DVD's first .VOB WILL be 100% DVD-compliant.

What is this HDR-HS7E - a miniDV camcorder that lets you do DV and HDV capture firewire?
True, the DV and HDV capture firewire into the Premiere Elements 13 Capture window is gone. But, have you
looked at the workaround suggested by PRE_help in this forum. The workaround is found in the following

  • AVI file imports into Premiere Elements but not Premiere Pro CS5.5

I tried to import an avi file into Premiere Pro 5.5, only to get the message: "Unsupported format or damaged file." The weird thing is, I have no problem importing the same file into Premiere Elements 1.0 and Premiere Elements 3.0. From the message boards, I somewhat understand that avi is a container and that there are actually 1000s of different formats within that "avi" label. Anyone know why PE is more capable than Pro on this task? Any solutions?

There are basically three ways to adjust apparent Volume in PrE. This ARTICLE lists them.
If one needs to go beyond the limited adjustments, I would suggest doing that work in an audio-editing program. I use Adobe Audition, but there are many more, from the great, little, free Audacity (do not know if it's ported for Mac?), to various DAW programs, and also CyberLink and Magix.

  • Transcoding vob file to Adobe Premiere Elements

Summary: Seek for the VOB files to Adobe Premiere Elements
Workflow- Read on the article and you will learn how to import VOB
videos to Premiere Elements with smooth editing.
Q: VOB files will not make sound on Adobe Premiere Elements
“I have some VOBs that I would like to edit using Adobe Premiere
Elements and share on YouTube or other sites. My problems is that my
VOBs do not have sound on Adobe Premiere Elements 11. I’m very new at
this. I know it can be done. I just need some help to get me pointed in
    the right direction.”
After collecting some VOB video clips, you may plan to transfer VOB
video to Adobe Premiere Elements, but it’s a bit of trouble. Premiere
Elements seems not be able to ingest the .vob files correctly like no
audio track. So, how to deal with VOB video in Adobe Premiere Elements?
Although Adobe claimed that Premiere Elements(7/8/9/10/11/12) offer
native VOB support, there are still some video, audio codec problems
while importing/editing VOB clips in Premiere Elements like the above
mentioned no sound. The best method to avoid any problems is to
transcode VOB into a Premiere Elements most compatible format like
    MPEG-2.
If you looking for a solution for this problem likewise, check out Brorsoft Video Converter for Mac
which is entitled as a top VOB Converter for Mac users. It supports
encoding all VOB files to MPG so that you can easily import the VOB to
Adobe Premiere Elements for editing on Mac. This will help you import
the file correctly and saving the rendering time. What’s more, this Mac
VOB converter also offers the optimal preset files for Final Cut Pro,
iMovie, Avid Media Composer, FCE, Adobe Premier Pro and more to help you
solve the incompatibility problems in different NLE apps. To convert
VOB to Premiere on Windows(8), simple turn to Brorsoft Video Converter
    to get the work done.
Below is a step-by-step guide on how to encode VOB to MPEG2
format for Premiere Elements editing with Mac OS X like Mavericks,
    Mountain Lion, Lion.
Step 1: Download and install VOB to Premiere Elements Converter to your Mac. Then load your source movie to it.
Step 2: Click the format bar, and move mouse cursor to Adobe
Premiere/Sony Vegas --> MPEG-2(*.mpg) as output format. It is also
great for editing in Premiere Elements.
Step 3: The  Mac VOB to Premiere Elements Converter
enables users to adjust audio and video settings before VOB to MPG
conversion. Click the “Settings” button and customize proper video/audio
parameters if necessary. Video size, bitrate and fame rate can be
    adjusted as you like.
Step 4: Click "Convert" button to start converting VOB for Adobe Premiere Elements on Mac OS.
After a shot conversion, you will be able to import/load VOB videos
into Premiere Elements for editing without any video, audio issues.

My guess is that these are 'Named User' licenses and not Concurrent licenses. That just means that every license has a single user and that users is expected to register. Did they just give you one DVD with the program and then 30 license keys? If so there is probably no way you will get around the registration process.

  • Trying to import files with transparent backgrounds into Premier Elements 10

I am struggling to import files from Photoshop CS3 into Premier Elements 10 and preserve their transparent background. I have tried .png (8 and 24 bit), .gif and .psd files. I have tried rasterizing the type layer before "Saving for web and devices" but can't get anything to work. The imported files end up as either text on a white background (.gif) or the file imports as a black background with no type visible (.png and .psd). I have read a few forums but can't find any suggestions beyond what I have already tried. I also get the same problem if I "Save for web and devices" out of Illustrator.
    Any suggestions much appreciated.

You have brought up one very interesting maintaining transparency question which I feel goes more to the trigger on the
Premiere Elements Videomerge pop up than to the Photoshop CS2 Save As with or without a check mark for Maximum Compatibility
And, I find that Photoshop CS5.1 as well as CS2 involvement in this matter is the same.
I created three 720 x 480 pixels documents, each with a blue colored circle on a transparent background in
    Photoshop CS2 and saved each
psd with check mark next to Maximize Compatibility
psd with no check mark next to Maximize Compatibility
    png
Each of them was imported into a NTSC DV Standard Premiere Elements 11 Windows 7 64 bit project.
Each triggered the Premiere Elements 11 Videomerge pop up.
If I checked No for the program request to apply Videomerge, then all 3 results were the same, that is,
the area around the circle was transparent and the circle was not...just the way it was created in Photoshop CS2.
So, why was the Videomerge message telling me "Clip being dropped contains solid background color" when
it had transparency represented by black and did not have a solid background color?
Even more interesting was what happened if I selected Yes to the program's request to
apply Videomerge to create transparency for what it claimed to be seeing as "solid background color".
The result was the same for all three cases, that is, the inside content of the circle became transparent
and the "black background" became a "solid color".
Videomerge is not one of my preferred Premiere Elements options.
To avoid the Videomerge pop up, I would suggest placing a check mark next to the "Do not show again.",
followed by No in the Videomerge pop up. When you do, you should not be confused by the activities of the
Videomerge pop up activities and you should have no problems with the maintenance of the Photoshop
created transparency in the Premiere Elements project.

  • Editing MP4 files in CS6 then importing into Premiere Elements 13

I would like to import MP4 files from a Phantom Drone into Photoshop CS6 ---Edit those files--Then rather then making the movie in CS6 --import into Premiere Elements 13 to edit and render ..Is it possible to use both program's to enhance the final movie?    Thanks Tom

On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 13 running?
If your Photoshop CS6 comes with Bridge, I am wondering if there is a way to go from
CS6 Bridge to Elements Organizer 13. From Elements Organizer 13, you could import from there
into the Premiere Elements 13 Editor.
    Quick results...
Photoshop CS5.1 Extended, File Menu/Export/Render Video
    File Menu/Browse in Bridge
Right click .mp4 export in Bridge, select Open With, select Adobe Premiere Elements 13 which needs to be set as default.
Seems 13 is opening but without the .mp4.
    More later.

I am having problems using mov files imported into a project. I get the message "Not rendered" in the Canvas and clip won't play. Can anyone help?

When clips won't play without rendering in the Timeline, it usually means that the clip's specs don't match the Sequence settings.
A .mov file could be made from any number of codecs; the QuickTime Movie designation is merely a container for video files of all kinds.  Since FCE only works with the QuickTime DV codec and the Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC) natively, if your mov files aren't one of those two, you need to convert them PRIOR to importing into your FCE project.

Anyone know how I can get an audio file imported into my iTunes' podcast directory, rather than the music directory?
I downloaded a series of podcasts recently.  They were imported into my "music" directory instead, making it more difficult for me to recall where I left off with the last podcast I listened to before having to stop it for whatever reason.  Thanks in advance for any help.

You can do it, though the result isn't ideal. Import your episode, then select it in the Music list and hit command-i to bring up the info panel:
However each episode you do this with will turn up as a 'podcast' with no name - and it doesn't seem possible to give it one - containing the one episode:

  • Cannot import entire dvd into premier elements 10

I am having problems importing and entire dvd that was recorded on a mini-dvd camcorder into premier elements 10.  My OS is windows 7 64 bit.  I have read thru these forums for hours and have not come across anything that will resolve the problem.  Yes, the files on the dvd are a combination of vob, ifo and bup files.  When I try to import media from the finalized disc or from the camcorder itself, I get the same results.  It will import maybe 9 minutes of a 30 minute dvd.  I did read on one of these threads to try and combine the files using command prompt.  There is a total of 4 vob files, and when I combine them using the command prompt, the first two files copy and then I get an error message saying "cyclic redundancy check" and the whole process stops.  I can play the the entire dvd on windows media player with no problems.  I have also contacted tech support and the person I spoke with could not help me at all.  I gave her access to my computer and she said everything looked good to run Premier Elements 10, she was not sure why I was having problems.
All I am trying to do is pull a couple of single clips from the mini-dvd and burn them to a dvd.  I don't even need the sound, just the clips.  I can also tell you that the mini-dvd I am trying to import has 66 individual clips on it.  I just need 2 or 3 of them.  It seems like this should not be such a complicated process....
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks so much for the quick response.
When I start my project I do have the Hard Disk Camcorder setting selected.  I did clean the C drive and defragment as well.  I put the finalized disc into my computer's disc drive and used the Media Downloader in Premiere Elements; selecting the Get Media from DVD Camcorder or PC DVD Drive.  I get the same results.  Only a small part of the dvd is being imported.   I am not copying to any other drive.  The camcorder the discs are coming from is a Panosonic VDR-D220.  I have also tried to plug the camcorder into the computer via USB and import the media with all the same steps mentioned above with the same result.
When I look at the info. on the disc, it shows 15 files.  The files are a combination of vob, ifo and bup.
    They are listed like this:
    video_ts    bup file    18kb
    video_ts.ifo   ifo file   18kb
    video_ts      vob file   166kb
    vts_01_0    bup file    14kb
    vts_01_0.ifo  ifo file    14kb
    vts_01_0      vob file   51,538kb
    vts_02-0    bup file    16kb
    vts_02_0.ifo   ifo file  16kb
    vts_02_0    vob file    275,850kb
    vts_03_0   bup file    32kb
    vts_03_0.ifo   ifo file  32kb
    vts_03_0    vob file    1,025,046kb
    vts_04_0  bup file     14kb
    vts_04_0.ifo  ifo file   14kb
    vts_04_0   vob file     16,278kb
I am not sure if all that info helps or not.  If there is something else I can tell you, please let me know.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Converting 1080/50p video for import into Premiere Elements

    Hi there,
I'm currently looking into buying an HD camcorder, and editing software to go with it.  I'm considering getting a camcorder which can record in 1080/50p for future-proofing, however I see that Premiere Elements doesn't currently support 1080/50p editing.  I was wondering whether I could sensibly shoot video in 1080/50p for archiving, but convert it down to either 1080/50i or 720/50p prior to importing into Premiere?  Is there a suitable intermediate input format which Premiere supports and which wouldn't result in a significant loss of quality due to the extra transcoding step?
Also, what is the recommended system requirement for 1080/50i and 720/50p editing?  I have a 2007 Macbook (2.2 GHz Core2 Duo, 4GB RAM), would that be sufficient?
    Thank you.

Thanks a lot for the very quick response Steve.
I suspect shooting 1080/50i is likely to be the way to go, I'll obviously have a play once I get the camera.  I just wanted to check whether it's feasible to shoot in 1080/50p, but convert to 720/50p prior to importing into Premiere Elements.  That way I can keep a copy of the 1080/50p clip to use in a few years time when the consumer editing software has caught up.
If I were to do that, what's the recommended file format to convert to prior to import?  Is there something similar to AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec) which is fast to convert to and edit from - ideally I'd rather not convert to 720/50p H.264.  Is there a list of Premiere Elements' supproted input formats somewhere?
