Recording a video of whats playing on my window

I know you can take a screen shot of the window displayed, but i need to get a video of whats going on on the screen (audio/video). Is there a apple application that does this that comes with snow leopard? Do I have to purchase a third party application? Any suggestion?

QuickTime Player (Applications folder) has "New Screen Recording" in its "File" menu. Click the triangle at the right of the recording window to select audio input. You will need a cable to connect the audio output to the audio in if you want to record the audio coming out of the computer.

I have an interesting problem that I am hoping someone can help me with.
I have several short videos (2-4 minutes) in 1080i HDV that I have edited in FCP. When output to 720P 30 H.264 in Compressor at either 10 or 6 MB they look just drop dead gorgeous when played back on either of my dual processor Macs.
However when played back on a Windows machine with QuickTime 7, they stutter to the point that playback locks up. This happens on 1.5 GHz to 3.2 GHz P4 class machines with 512 MB to 1 GB of RAM and 64 to 128 MB video cards. On the 3.2 GHz P4, the processor utilization peaks at 100%. The interesting thing is that all of these same Windows machines have no problem playing back 720p 24 trailers at 6 MB.

First a correction. I am using the latest version of FCP – 5.
Regarding the encoding, I have tried going from native HDV MPEG-2 to H.264 at 720P from 10 to 4 MB at 24, 30 and 29.97. The Mac seems to play everything back very well, but most PCs (the latest IBM T 40 – 43 series laptops) a couple of Dell desk tops (2.6 GHZ with 64 and 128 MB graphic cards) and a 3.2 GHz Shuttle PC with a 128 MB graphic card (that we routinely use to decode four MPEG-4, 4CIF images simultaneously and display on a 42” ED Plasma) choke/stutter to varying degrees with processor utilization hitting 100%.
So, the real issue here is what is the difference between a 720p trailer that I can download from Apple and what I can output using Compressor 2 at a similar data rate – other than the frame rate?
And why does the Compressor output stutter on most PCs?

Video does not play in preview window.

I have recently upgraded to CS4 from CS3.
In any part of CS4 that uses video; Encore, Premeire and After Effects, video will not play in the preview window from a timeline when the play button is pressed. The playhead doesn't move, but the Play button toggles from Pause to Play when pressed. However, when I scrub the video, I can see it in the window. Video played fine in CS3.
My graphics card is a PNY nVidia Quadro FX 570 with the 178.26 driver. My computer is a Dell Precision 670.
I recently completed a project where I had to trim about 48 QuickTime video files created in Premiere 2.0, compressed with Sorensen 3.
The files were then added to Encore, and a DVD was created. The DVD worked fine. At no time could I preview video, unless I opened the edited video in QuickTime.
This has also happened with still and AVIs.
At no time do any of the CS4 programs freeze or crash the system.
Has anyone had this happen to them. Is it a graphics card issue.... I can't seem to find any info on a similar problem.

Try turning off (or lowering) Hardware Acceleration for your graphics card.
At the Windows Desktop, Right Click and select "Properties". Under the "Settings" Tab, select "Advanced". Select the "Troubleshoot" Tab and reduce the Hardware Acceleration. You will need to restart you computer to see if it worked. First, try it with no Acceleration. If it works, try increasing the Hardwar Accelearation one notch at a time - rebooting your computer each time. \

Videos won't play properly with Windows Vista

Hi there,
I recently installed iTunes on my new computer, which is running Windows Vista Home Premium. After transferring my library over I tried to play a video to test it out, but found that the videos were all extremely choppy. I installed new video drivers for my video card (Nvidia 8800 GT), made sure I had the latest version of iTunes (7.2.0.35) and went through most of the steps in this troubleshooting article:

I didn't perform the last two steps (Modify your System Drive Configuration and Disable Readyboost) because I didn't see "the IDE bus that contains your hard drive" and am not using a flash-based drive.
Any ideas?

Video is not playing in preview window

In the preview pane the movie is not visible. I can press the play button, every thing runs normal inclus. sound but i cannot see the movie.
If i click in the preview pane then the current frame appears. But no running movie...
When i start PRE9, i get the message "We have detected an incompatible display driver. To get better and faster playback performance, please update your display driver. Display driver details : NVIDIA Geforce 7650 GS/PCI/SSE22.1.2".
I tried to download a driver from the NVIDIA site but i seem to have the latest driver...
Who can help ?

Video podcast not playing in separate window

for some unknown reason, when I click onto the small video window where the artwork shows, it doesn't show the video podcast in its own window any longer
the window appears on the taskbar, but it doesn't maximize

I think it's your specific browser player problem. It works
here on every IE
in my Office. No problem at all...

How to record screen video with sound but not playing while its recording

Hi, I'm trying to figure out a smart way to record some video lectures using my computer. I note that the Quicktime player is able to do that, but it confines your screen to a certain size so anything that falls into that screen capture zone will be recorded which is fine as i get a separate monitor soon so i can just chuck it one side to record while I'm doing other work.
But what im still trying to figure out is how the sound can also be simultaneously recorded by the software (be it Quicktime or not) and yet not be playing out loud on the speakers so i can do my work and not get distracted by that.
Any line-in or some clever way to do that?
Windows options also possible using parallels if anyone has a solution

The easy solution to this is through the utilization of SoundFlower (Completely free).
Here are two tutorials that will guide you through the process of capturing your System's Sound as well as recording whatever is playing on the screen:

I need to record a video while music app is playing

HI, I couldn't find the answer anywhere, and maybe it's not a common question.
I need to record a video with the camera app, but I need the music app (or whatever app, like spotify) to keep playing the song in the background, because I want to record the song as well. But the default behavior, when you choose video mode, is to stop the music from playing.
I am asking this because the iPad is the only thing I got with me at the moment, so I need everything done with it (the music playing and the camera recording)
Is that even possible, or the default behavior cannot be bypassed?

The amount of space taken by an app depends on the app's purpose; complex or graphically intense apps usually take more space than simpler apps.
If your device is near its capacity, you can remove some of the less used content to make room for more.

you can use iMovie to record a video for free on a Mac with iSight.
1. Open iMovie HD
2. Choose “Create a new project”
3. Name the project for example “iSight Movie” (first field). In the second field, let the default location “Sequences”, in the third one, video format, choose “iSight”. Push “Create”
4. iMovie window opens, next to the scissors, choose the camera (Camera mode), then iSight. Now you appear on the screen, right?
5. Press “Record with iSight” in the main picture window.
6. Press the same button to stop. Your new clip appears now in the clip panel at the right.
7. You are done!
