Recording an interview with two microphones?

Thank you for considering my question.  I'm conducting a series of interviews on location and am recording the conversations with GarageBand on my MacBook Pro (13", late 2011), running OS X Maverick 10.9.2.
I've been using one Blue Snowball external microphone, but this doesn't pick up both voices very well.
May I add a second microphone to GarageBand and get two separate vocal tracks?
Also, which external microphones do you like for recording interviews?  The Blue Snowball is very bulky, and I'd rather not have to cart it around (although it looks impressive).
Thanks in advance for your help!

yes, you can create an aggregate device for multiple inputs:

(Let the page FULLY load. The link to your answer is at the top of your screen)
although this short video tutorial is made with os x 10.9 and GBv10, the principles are the same for 10.6 and earlier versions of GB:

you can take a look at the Samson here:

but im not sure that it's any less bulky.

  • Recording an Interview with iMovie 08

    Hi.
I'm taking my little iMovie hobby a little more serious these days. I want to make something a little more than "ooh, look!", something more like "wow, Scott. That's pretty good!".
SO I'm aiming for a coupla HV20s. I love the capture of them. I want to do some interviews and things, so I'll need some lights. What works best, some hot lights in a reflector, or hot lights in softboxes? Or umbrellas? I don't want to go the Home Depot route. I looked at some Impact lights, and they're rather inexpensive, but the quality is decent. How many watts, also: 250? 500?
Would you recommend any particular brand?
    Thx,
    Scott

  • Recording audio portion with two headsets

I would like to use two people/two headsets to record the
audio portion of my captivate software demo. We are using two
digital headset microphones, each with a USB connection
(Plantronics Gamecom | Pro 1) within a VMware session. The visual
portion records just fine, but only one headset picks up the audio
portion. The second headset doesn't pick up anything.
Ideas on how to get BOTH headsets working while recording?
(We just spent money on the headsets and would prefer not having to
spend more money on a single, but shared, microphone that sits on a
desk; plus we're under a tight schedule :-)

Sorry I don't have an answer for you - directly, anyway. I do
understand why you might want to do the dual-mic thing, but I don't
believe Captivate can handle the double-source audio.
I would recommend (unless someone here has a better answer)
that you use your dual microphones and take your script outside
Captivate to do the recording, then use the Audio Import function
to bring your saved MP3 or WAV audio into the project that way.
Best of luck, and welcome to the User Community!

  • How to Record a Interview with Multi tracks using Adobe Audition CC

    Hi,
I would like to record a Skype Interview call using Adobe Audition CC.
I am able to get Track 1 to reconize my voice, but I can't figure out how to get Track 2 to pick up the other person's voice I am interviewing through the Skype Call. I am using Skype's call recording as a back up, however, I hear the call quality is better if it goes straight into Adutiton.
I am sure it has something to do with the input and output, but just ahve no idea where to start.
Any help would be greatly apprecaited!
    Thank you!!!!

  • Material data load with two unit (0MAT_UNIT) failed?

    Hi,
I am loading the 0MAT_UNIT data from R/3 QAS to BW QA, I am getting below error.
    0MAT_UNIT : Data record 34 ('000000000000010249 ') : Duplicate data record RSDMD 191
There two records for same material number with two different units (EA and PAK), Data loaded to BW dev successfully even if duplicate records for material with two units but it failed in BW QA.
    Any setting I am missing?
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Steve

If you look at the definition of the P table (/BI0/PMAT_UNIT) you will find that both material and unit are keys. So the system recognizes a record as duplicate only when a given material with a given unit exists twice in the data. Based on what you are saying, this is not the case. You have two separate units for a given material. Can you please check to see if there is another record for the same material in a different datapacket ??

  • Trying to record multiple tracks at once with Mixer (Two Microphones)

I have a Alesis Multimix 4, and two microphones plugged into the mic 1 and mic two inputs.  I am trying to record both, at the same time, to two distinct tracks.  I set Device Class to ASIO in the Audio Hardware section, and delected ASIO4ALL v2 for the Device.  My mixer (I assume) is showing up as USB Aduio CODEC in the ASIO4ALL settings.  When I go back to my multitrack setting, I am given four options for incoming audio:
    Audio Front Mic Input 1
    Audio Front Mic Input 2
    USB Audio CODEC 1
    USB Audio Codec 2
No matter what combination I try, when I record, both tracks pick up both microphones.  My goal is to isolate both, so I can apply different settings to both tracks later on, adjust in the mix etc...   The audio only comes through when I pick the USB Audio option.  Thanks in advance.
    Brett

I think you've got the right driver selected, otherwise it wouln't work at all. The single most obvious thing to ask you though (I'm sorry if this is too basic) is where you have the pan controls set to? To get each mic to record on a single channel, you'd have to have one panned hard left and the other panned hard right. If you leave them both panned dead centre, that's exactly what you get - both mics on both channels.

  • How to record two channels at once with two mics

How do you set up and record-enable two tracks with seperate microphones at once?

Thank you Eriksimon but I'm afraid I did not correctly ask my question.  I am using two USB mics without an external interface.  They are plugged into seperate USB ports on my Imac and I can only access one or the other for recording purposes.  I wish to use them at the same time on two seperate record-enabled tracks so that I can obtain either seperate vocal tracks or a stereo image of an acoustic guitar.  One of my mics is a stereo Yeti but I am not satisfied with the results using the stereo capsule arrangement.  Thanks again!

  • Wich device do i need to record interview with ipad 1?

I want to record Interviews with ipad 1. Wich device do i need and where can i buy it?

    Audio or video?
Since the iPad has no camera, video recording is not possible.
Audio recording can be performed with the built in microphone, or with one of several USB Mics through the USB camera adapter.

  • Creating a DNS Record for a Host with Two or More IP???

Can we create DNS A Record for a Host with Two or More IP ... ( we like to use my website  "mysite.com" pointing to two Ips )
    Please help...

    Sure, no worries.
In a production environment DNS will query always the first record it will stores in cache, you need to find a dynamic or NLB way to achieve the automatic fail over else when you will have an outage with the first IP, then you need to ask your clients to
clear the cache and register to DNS again, this i will not suggest in a production environment, lots of manual efforts and doesnt sound like a solution in a production environment, i would suggest you to explore windows NLB, it's easy to set and use the OS
    license.
    Thanks

  • Help - Recording audio interviews for use as podcasts

    Hi there -
I'm looking for guidance on getting started with recording audio interviews and then putting on the net as a podcast. Key questions are:
    - What is the best equipment to use when starting, in terms of microphones etc.?
etc.(The interviews will be mostly in person, but some may be over skype)
    - What software should I use to create podcast? (i have garageband & final vinyl on my macbook)
    - What are the 'watch-outs'/most common mistakes I should watch for?
    Any help much appreciated.

These two pages offer some suggestions:
    http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/FAQPages/Interfaces.html
    http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/Microphones.html
The author of these pages posts in the GarageBand Forum as do others who use it, and it's a good place to ask questions about this.
As to creating a podcast, once you have made the MP3 audio files (in GarageBand or an audio editor such as Audacity) my recommendation would be Podcast Maker which will write the feed for you and upload it and the files to a server; it writes a good feed and isn't given to causing problems. iWeb can also make a podcast, together with an associated web page, though you may have less control over how it's done.

  • How Can I record Phone Interviews in Garage Band for a podcast?

Hello...I have a Blue Snowball microphone, IMAC, and Garage Band 3.0.2.
I would like to record phone interviews in Garage band and be able to keep the incoming call at a high enough and clear enough level. So I am not to loud and they are not to low.
This wil be or a podcast.
    Please help, any ideas?
    -Chris

There's cheap telephone interfaces at Radio Shack (you might do a search in this forum, they have been mentioned before) which plug into the Mac's line-in. Since the Snowball is USB, you can go to the Audio-Midi Utility and create an "Aggregate Device" that consists of your line-in and your Snowball - that way you can record the two sources to two separate tracks and adjust their levels independently.
