Recording Audio -- freezing always

I've had LE 7 for over a year now, and nary a problem with it. LE 8 arrived in the mail yesterday. As I've seen on this forum, other users have experienced issues getting it to recognize older files. I've now gotten it to import and playback songs.
Now I'm trying to record. Anything. Once I arm the appropriate tracks and press "record" or type "R"... nothing. The program just freezes.
When "ctrl-click" on the icon for Logic Express on my dock at the bottom of my browser, in grey it reads "Application Not Responding." This is infuriating. Anyone else? Thoughts?

Have you added anything else new to the equation? I had the same problem after buying a new external hard drive- I opened a project that I had been working on, got a track ready, pressed record, and then Logic would freeze (and freeze BAD, force quit would not work, the only way to proceed was to hold down the power button and reboot. Reminded me of the PC days....).
I tried a few things like unplugging my Presonus Firebox & using my MBP inputs (same problem), duplicating the scenario in LE7 (same problem), and unplugging my external HD & recording to my MBP's internal drive. Problem solved! It appeared that it was my new external HD, so I erased it and formatted it for Mac (which was all I could think of to do...). So far so good...
I should add that this never happened with my old external HD.

Record audio freezes Captivate 5 on Mac 10.6

When I try to record audio to a slide, or edit audio in Captivate 5 on Mac 10.6 the program freezes. I must force quit. I was able to record audio two weeks ago. I saw a number of posts on this issue for Windows but not for Mac. Solutions?

Freezes when I hit record (audio)

When I have audio already on a track and hit record midway, it freezes. Strangely, I can start a new empty track and record audio from there, but if I try to cut in on a track midway with audio on it, it freezes. Using Logic 10.1.0, Mac OS 10.9.4 6 GB memory, plenty of room on disk, formatted Mac OS Extended. Using a Scarlett 18i8 interface, but it does the same thing when using Core Audio on the Mac. And no crash report will surface when I force quit. Have tried permissions repair to no avail. And tried removing all unused audio tracks from the Project Audio list, does not help.
Anyone?

Actually, there were not steps suggested (at least that I saw) for garageband freezing when I hit record. I read through all the links (and almost went blind) and and did a search on the site, maybe I missed it.
If you have an answer to this probelem I would love to try any suggestions.

Freezes when I start recording audio

I have 20 iMacs in my lab here at school. When I log in as the user, everything works fine. I can record audio directly into Garageband and iMovie with no problems. When other users use the same computers, they cannot. When they click on the red button to record in either application, the program freezes, and they get the spinning disk until it is force quit. It happens over and over.
The account I am using is not an administrative account. In fact, when I try the same thing using the admin account, it freezes when I try to record!
Any suggestions? This just started happening a month or so ago. Before that, it was fine for everyone. I suspect that it might be related to some updates, but I don't know for sure.
The same thing happens whether people use attached mics or the internal mic, by the way. Every other aspect of the programs is fine. It's just recording that's a problem.
This is wreaking havoc with podcasting and moviemaking.

Glad to hear you're back recording, even through kludgey work-arounding!
Also, you may have indicated the underlying cause of the problem. The fact that it goes away when recording to your internal drive suggests the USB drive as the culprit.
Everyone I know who uses Logic records to firewire drives. Firewire handles time-sensitive data like audio better than USB, and so while USB might work OK under certain circumstances, it may be the cause of your grief. Perhaps if you were recording to an external firewire drive rather than USB, there wouldn't be a problem.

Captivate 5 Freezes when I try to Record Audio To Slide

Hello,
I'm having difficulties with recording audio to slide in Captivate 5. Recording to slides, background, and object work, but when I try to record to slide, the computer appears to freeze (until I press escape and then I can select buttons again).
I have Windows XP on my computer. I have deleted the preferences C:\Documents and Settings\name\Application Data\Adobe\Captivate, following advice on other threads, but this does not help.
This issue just started yesterday. I was able to record to slide before.
Any help would be appreciated!

Logic freezes when trying to record audio file

I am using my Guitar RIg "Rig Kontrol" as an interface. I create a new audio track without opening with guitar rig. I prefer to add that on after to preserve processing power.
The second I hit record, Logic freezes. Any ideas?

Not sure what 'the numbers 1,2,and 3 next to my first three tracks flash with a box' means but it could be something to do with the solution if its the Mute or Solo buttons flashing.
If you go into the Mixer you might find a track that's been soloed or muted that isn't on the arrange page. That's all I can think of from what you've said.

Quicktime Freezes When Recording Audio

Quicktime froze one time when trying to record audio, so I restarted my Mac. It still froze, so I tried repairing by using the uninstall program.
It still froze, so I uninstalled it and re-downloaded it. It's still freezing. I'm starting to think it's something in my system files but I don't really know.
The program freezes when I click the record button.
I really need help because it's the only recording program that doesn't slightly slow down my audio, so I really need it.
Any help would be appreciated.

Unable to record audio

I am trying to record audio into Logic through a electro-acoustic guitar and AKG microphone, which are both plugged into my Saffire 6 interface. Everytime I set up a new audio track and select the 'R' record button, a loud static noise plays through my monitors. You can see that the interface is picking up a signal from the guitar but all you can hear is the static.
When I increase the gain on the instrument channel on my interface, the noise stays at the same level. But when I increase the volume of the monitors or the volume of the mixer channel in Logic the noise gets louder. This makes me think that all the cables are fine but it is something to do with a setting in Logic.

I've read on some other forums that it might be to do with the buffer size - I've tried changing this but the problem seems to persist. I also read that it might have something to do with setting the midi clocks in the synchronization tab but there wasn't enough information explaining how to do this.

Couple of more questions:
Does the Focusrite have a feature called zero latency monitoring, also called direct monitoring? If so make sure it is turned off and not used. The Saffire has a "Mixer" knob, do you have that in the correct position. Do you have the latest drivers? 2.6 it looks like.

Does the microphone channel work ok? Have you tried reversing them.
What happens to that channel if the guitar is not plugged in, is there any noise?
Are you using a standard 2-conductor guitar cable, or is it by chance a three conductor stereo cable? It should be just a standard guitar cable.
It there anything else being used on the USB bus, are you plugged into a USB hub or directly into the Mac?
Speaking of which, wht Mac and OS?

HT2375 Logic Pro 9 is playing back recorded audio tracks ahead of MIDI tracks

When recording audio all of a sudden, my playback of any recording is faster than the MIDI recording. My software instruments are on time, but audio or guitar play through audio is always just a step ahead when recorded through live input monitoring. I've reinstalled Logic Pro to try and fix it, and no change. Any ideas?

Hello there is no problem in audio recording delay
just check your pref ........ midi ......... sync ...... delay ( 0.0 ) ( Reset once again change the value and return it to zero ( 0 ) )

Digital recorder audio not syncing with video footage

Am I missing the obvious and easy method? When we shoot weddings, we always use a separate digital audio recorder and lav in the groom's pocket as a backup device. When it comes time to use that audio, it always goes askew compared to the video's audio. My guess is this happens because the video is only recording 29.97 frames per second and not a full 30, whereas the digital recorder provides a real-time recording. So, I end up having to shorten the audio every 10 seconds or so (by cutting out a few frames worth of audio) to keep everything synced. Is there a way to convert the audio from the pocket recorder to a video format so it will stay in sync without the need for editing it? Thanks!

I tried the resampling and even though original file was 44.1khz and I did convert it to 48khz, after a few minutes go by the file still goes seriously out of sync. It's a 34 minute audio clip, and by the end of the clip, its about 3-4 seconds out of sync. Any other thoughts? Thanks!

Delay when recording audio compared to my midi click

Im using my Powerbook G4 1.5G and a Presonus Firebox to record audio with a midi click. I´m using the firebox mixer for monitoring and have switched off logic software monitoring. I have no latency when listening while recording, but when listening to the recorded file, it´s delayed compared to the pre-recorded click loop.
This is what I don´t understand. Why is the recorded file delayed? I have the delaycompensation off. It does not matter if I record on the internal disk or a Lacie external firewire disk.
I have a G4powermac and a motu 2408 mk3 with no problems like this what so ever.
Should i do a midi signal output correction? Is this really necessary on a setup today? Why do I not have the same problem on my G4 Powermac?
I hope somebody have an idea.

there is always some latency when the signal goes thru the computer.
you can do a test and determine how much delay you are seeing and then
go to:
audio/audio hardware & drivers/drivers
and in the recording delay box put in the amount to be compensated for.
With my setup i fugured out that I had 57 ms of delay.

Recording Audio through/with Flash

We are working with a client who has a project that they need
a customer to record audio from their computer. We want to do the
designs in Flash. Does anybody have an idea or suggestion on how to
record audio through flash (swf) or what software would be useful

You can capture audio from a microphone quite easily in
Flash:

However saving audio has always been a problem in Flash. It
is a tricky work-around process. You can only send to a server
running Flash Media Server and then convert the audio using a tool
like the one used for this project:

Recorded audio in Flash uses the NellyMoser codec, which is a
low quality mono only audio codec designed for voice only. I found

I have a scarlett solo usb mic interface that only records audio to the left channel in quicktime.

When I record a movie using my web cam in conjuction with my scarlett solo usb mic interface it only records audio to the left channel. I have tried everything and looked everywhere! Any help would be appreciated.

QuickTime player 10.2 does not record audio, mic works in other apps

OS: Mountain lion
QT player: 10.2
Perian and Soundflower are installed.
QT is not recording audio from the computer mic or even a headphone mic, neither for audio or video recording.
QT starts always for recording with the volume down.
The mic works in other apps (skype or garaband).
I am not able to find either the plist files for QT.
I used QT in the past to record audio from the computer mic.
I recently updated the OS from lion to mountain lion.
Any ideas why is not working?

Trouble effectively recording audio

I have my microphone hooked up through my Fantom G8 and I am using Logic Pro 8 software. My problem is when I try to record in Logic Pro, it will not recognize my microphone. This is weird because it recognizes it on the G8. Also, once I hit record in Logic Pro, the music that I am trying to record over will stop playing and I can hear nothing.
This is a mystery. I previously solved this problem by creating an aggregate device incorporating the Fantom G8 with the Built-In output and Built-In input and trying different orders of those three, setting the clock master to different ones. However, now it does not want to work consistently.
I am very familiar with creating an aggregate device. I understand that the order in which the devices within the aggregate device are placed determines the order in which they correspond to inputs and outputs, like 1-2, 3-4, etc. Maybe I am not setting up my audio tracks in logic properly. Should I put no output for the tracks I will be audio recording on, and no input on the track that will play the music?
Please give me some direction, it would be highly appreciated.. Bee Jay was very helpful initially, but the problem persists. Thanks.

I have tried deleting all previous Aggregate devices. The Fantom comes up simply as Roland Fantom G 44.1 kHz. I wish it showed up as separate input and output devices so I could select only the Fantom Input, that potentially could make things easier.
I have always used both built in audio input and output, and now I will set built in output as the clock master, and since it will be first on the list on the aggregate device editor, it will correspond to outputs 1-2 on Logic, and the Roland if I put it second on the list should correspond to input 1.
Do you know if I should use stereo or mono on the logic audio tracks, or specify no input or no output, or if these things even matter?
You are right on about experimentation, thats all I have been doing. Its just puzzling because I had it working in the past without having to do all of this. I simply set up the aggregate device and I was in business. Right now if I open ableton, it plays the music through the built in output and I can record audio through the Fantom no problem, so its got nothing to do with the connections.
I am going to play with it for the next hour using your advice and then I will let you know what happens. I REALLY appreciate your help.
