Recording audio from other audio apps

Hi,
How can I record the audio from a stand-alone/seperate application into Logic without having to physically rewire? The situation is that I'm using the slicer app from IXI (http://www.ixi-software.net/) and I want to record the output in Logic.
Your help would be appreciated muchly.

  • Get strange audio from other parts of the video when I am using transitions

In most cases when I add a transition, I get a strange piece of audio inserted during the transition. I know I can go in and manually edit this out, but is there some sort of fix to keep this from happening in the first place?

    Hello, Rick,
    Welcome to the discussions.
Yes, that is a problem that happens sometimes, especially with the Cross-Dissolve transition. I use that one a lot, and run into this with many of my clips. I have 'fixed' it with a variety of methods including muting, putting music over it, adding audio clips recorded from the beginning of the next clip....for this one I have to delete the transition, crop the next clip, remove it to the clips pane, add back the transition and record the audio from the deleted clip using WiretapPro. Works great and actually is faster than it seems.
You might be able to get some correction by trashing iMovie's preference file; Close iMovie. Go to YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.imovie.plist
If you also have iMovie 8, you will see its plist as com.apple.imovie7.plist, so be sure to trash the correct one.
Drag the plist file to the trash. Reopen iMovie and see if it works properly now.

  • Record sound from M-Audio Firewire Solo input with S/PDIF

Hey there, I am using a m-audio firewire solo and connect it to my mac mini 2013 with firewire cable. If I try to record sound from my guitar, it is ok, however the sound from S/PDIF input cannot be recorded. I can see the sound signal from the mac input preference, however it just cannot be played or recorded. I have searched through the forum and found some people also have the same problem but just cannot solve it. Does anyone have some idea? Thanks.

Have you selected the correct Input pair in a stereo Logic channel strip? Standard s/pdif is a stereo signal.
Also, the M-Audio device may have to be set to slave mode as the incoming digital signal will have to become the master digital clock for the M-Audio unit.
The M-Audio unit should probably be set to 48kHz, it's doesn't do 96hHz does it?

  • Ghost Audio from Other Clips

    Hi All,
I'm having an issue when adding new selections to the project.
    1) I add one selection from a clip and the audio is fine;
    2) I add another selection from somewhere later in the same clip and I can hear ghost audio from the previous selection;
    3) If the second selection in the project is shorter than the first, the ghost audio seems "wrapped" - that is the ghost audio plays from two different points in the previous selection at the same time.
The original clip is a .mov using the Apple Intermediate Codec and AAC audio.
    Any advice would be great!
    Thanks!
    - Charles

    Hello All,
I'm updating this in case anyone else has the same issue.
It turns out the AAC encoding was causing the issue. I used QuickTime Pro to save the file with a different audio encoding and all is well, now.
    Thanks!

  • Can't Watch Recorded Programs from Other TVs

I recently had to replace my Verizon box that controls my main TV.  Of course I lost all of my recorded programs.  But the big issue is that now I cannot watch programs recorded on my main TV on the other two TVs that I have.  Before the replacement I was able to watch recorded programs on any TV.  Verizon also replaced my router as I had a very old one that was installed four or five years ago.
Can you help me with the remote TVs with regards to being able to watch recorded programs from the main TV box?
    Thank you,
    Hugh

The iPhone records video in the H.264 video codec, which should be included as part of your install of Quicktime. What version of Quicktime are you running? You might check and see if there is an update that you might need to install. Do you have problems playing videos on the Apple Movies Trailer website? If yes, then you might be missing the H.264 codec for some reason. If no, then maybe the file is getting corrupted somehow when you copy it from your iPhone to your PC. I've has instances where a file said it finished copying and I tried to play it and couldn't (I got the same message you got from Quicktime), so I copied the file again and the file worked the second time.

  • Corrupted Photo Hides iPhoto Library from other iLife apps

I was recently using iMovie HD to create a movie for church and wanted to insert some still images given to me by the pastor. I imported the images into iPhoto, but found that iMovie reported that I needed to "Launch iPhoto 2 or later to populate this list."
I am a regular user of iPhoto 6 for my own personal needs, and have launched it dozens of times on my computer, so this puzzled me. I checked the help files and found under the article entitled "I don't see any photos in the Photos pane," which simply says that I must be using iPhoto 4 or higher and have opened iPhoto at least once, both of which are true, but I relaunched iPhoto just in case, but to no avail.
Checking to see if the problem was with iMovie, I found that I also had no access to my photos from iDVD, so the problem seems to be with iPhoto.
I also checked out Apple's support database, and found the article at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75491, "iLife: Cannot See iPhoto Files in Other iLife Applications." Following these instructions, including the recreation of the XML file, yielded no positive results.
After some experimenting with iPhoto/iMovie on other computers and in other accounts, I found that when I imported a particular set of pictures was when the pictures disappeared from iMovie. I tried deleting these pictures from my own main iPhoto library, but the problem was not solved. I finally found out that once the corrupted photo had been imported into iPhoto, nothing I would do would allow the iPhoto pictures to be viewable from other applications.
I eventually solved this by renaming my iPhoto library, using GraphicConverter to convert the suspect files in batch mode and importing the converted files into a new iPhoto library. This at least allowed me to get the movie finished, but I now have two iPhoto libraries on my computer, only one of which is visible to other iLife applications.
I found out that if I held down some keys while launching iPhoto, I would be given the option to rebuild the iPhoto library using four checkboxes: Rebuild small thumbnails, Rebuild all thumbnails, Rebuild Library database and recover orphaned photos. I've done all four to no effect.
So, after all of that, my final question is, is it possible to restore my iPhoto library such that I can again access it from other iLife applications without losing the many albums I've created?
    Thanks,
    Chuck

So far, no go with iPhoto Library Manager, although the program and the help files that come with it have suggested some leads.
First of all, when I open iPhoto Library Manager, it reports:
The album data file for this library is malformed.
    XML parser errors:
Encountered unexpected character k on line 59525
    Old-style plist parser error:
Malformed data byte group at line 1; invalid hex
So I opened AlbumData.xml in BBEdit and checked out line 59525 (as suggested by the iPhoto Library Manager help files) and found that it looked like this:
    <string> <key>274</key>
    Above it is the line:
    <key>771</key>
Most <key><string> pairs look like this:
    <key>XXX</key>
    <string>KeywordName</string>
So for some reason, the problem line isn't closing the string tag. I tried editing the keyword that came after the problem line, but it didn't fix the parse error. From what I can tell, manually editing the AlbumData.xml file won't solve the problem, as iPhoto only writes to it for other applications, and doesn't read it. The next time I launch iPhoto, it would simply write the same data.
I also checked for the string 771 in the file as that's the keyword ID that appears before the parse error, but it's only found in relation to an album and a roll.
Because of this, iPhoto Library Manager can't rebuild the library. However, the help files do offer the author's email address, and it's obvious that he's spent time looking into this type of problem (the help files describe exactly the problem behavior I'm having with the error message seen in iMovie). So I'm going to zip up the AlbumData.xml file and send it to him. While I do that, I may look through the keywords more closely and see if any of them look like they have suspect characters. Perhaps renaming them will solve the problem.
Of course, this keyword clue doesn't explain why importing un-keyworded photos would cause the problem in the first place, but if I can get it fixed, I'll be happy.

  • Is it  possible to record audio from the audio in port instead of the default microphone?

The quality of the audio would be better if I could provide it via the audio in port of the Mac rather than defaulting to the built in mike in the display.  Can I do that?

The quality of the audio would be better if I could provide it via the audio in port of the Mac rather than defaulting to the built in mike in the display.  Can I do that?
Yes. Specifics depend on the recording app being usded. For instance, for QT X, select "Built-in Input: Line Input" in the dropdown menu. Other apps may require you to select the "Line In" option in the "System Preferences.../Sound/Input" panel.

  • Avchd using audio from other clips

    Hi
I just reloaded a project from a client to do some adjustments. all files are AVCHD put in 3 different folders. "Media/Footage/Card1/Private (Card2/Private)... you get it.
Suddenly my audio both in timeline and reference monitor switched source to other clips. I've tried to restart, I tried to use prelude to ingest using prores conversion. if I play it from quicktime everything works fine. this is only a problem with some clip not all. I didn't rename in the folder structure only in the project bins.
Does anybody know if this is a general problem for CC 2014. I never had this problem with CC version.
Let me know if anybody struggles with the same issues.
    regards
    Morten

    Hi Morten,
When you had initially put the project together, did you Import the AVCHD clips with "File > Import" or Media Browser? The latter is preferred and alleviates a lot of discomfort later on. Can't guarantee this is the solution, but doesn't hurt.
    Thanks

  • No Audio from Other End

I have a problem that only happens when I call my parents using FaceTime. It happens randomly no matter which device we're using to talk. Sometimes we'll talk for 20 minutes and then all of a sudden the audio cuts out. They can hear and see me but I can only see them but not hear them. It's always that same scenario. Sometimes we can't even begin the discussion. They are on a fairly reliable 2d/1uGb connection and I'm on a 10d/1uGb connection. I use FaceTime regularly with others and never have this issue. Any ideas?

I have not had this issue for quite some time now. I think it stopped after the latest OSX update.

  • Reconstructing WAV audio from specific audio beams

I have a fairly simple use case:
A person is standing in front of the kinect and says something.
The Kinect 2 API produces a corresponding audio beam.
I want to capture the audio samples from this beam.
The problem I am seeing is that the relativetime timestamps for each frame are not consistent; that is, they are not exactly 16ms apart, and sometimes they will skip over anywhere from 5ms to 50ms. Therefore, I cannot simply append incoming samples to previously
incoming samples, as I will be altering the timing & phase of the waveforms captured (I have tried this, and it sounds awful).
Unfortunately, the samples that come with the SDK don't help, because the audiobeam sample don't actually capture the audio and write it to a WAV file, and the recording sample (which DOES write the samples to a WAV file) does not use the audio beam API.
It seems that I have to copy the incoming subframe samples to a particular index (based on the timestamp of their parent audiobeamframe) into an intermediate buffer. Is there another, better way to capture and reconstruct audiobeam samples?

I'm not sure we're on the same page here.
It is my understanding that the audio samples made available in each SubFrame audio data buffer (accessed via the Kinect 2 AudioBeam API) have been processed by the Kinect 2 API; ambient noise has been filtered out, and, ideally, the audio sample should
contain only the sound that can be identified as having come from the direction of the current AudioBeam setting. In other words, if someone is speaking in a room with some ambient noise, the AudioBeam subframe data should contain the sound of their voice
but not the ambient sounds in the room.
The WASAPI, on the other hand, simply exposes 4 channels of raw microphone input.
I am already polling for new AudioBeam frames in a dedicated thread. The issue is that:
    1) The audio frames are sparse; they do not provide a contiguous stream of samples. There are often 10ms - 50ms gaps.
    2) The relative time interval between frames is not consistent; there is no clean way to concatenate the samples into a WAV file.
For example, the equivalent behavior, in the depth stream, would be:
    - sometimes entire frames - or two, or three, etc - are dropped
    - instead of being captured every ~33ms, frames are captured at irregular intervals ranging from 33ms to 100ms (and their timestamps reflect this irregularity)

  • Can QT 7 pro isolate audio from combined audio/video tracks?

I just upgraded to Pro to try to convert small video clips (.mov files) taken on an HP digital camera into an iMovie-compatible format- they will play fine in QT (both audio and video), but there is no separate audio track. No matter what format I save the clips in, they lose the audio portion. Can QT or iMovie solve this?
    G4 tower   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

It sounds (no pun intended) like the file format from your camera is MPEG-1 (muxed). QT can play but not export or convert the audio. Same with iMovie.
Use MPEG Streamclip (free) to convert your .mpg files to QT formats.

    Hi @irishwomderful
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you are getting no sound at all from your new notebook, either from the speakers or using headphones. I am happy to assist.
Were you getting any sound at all when you first powered on the notebook, or was there never any sound?
If you did get some sound originally, then it is possible that something was installed or changed while installing other applications, that affected the sound. If so, then you can try either a system restore, to a point before the problem began, or a system recovery to the factory defaults. Before choosing the recovery option, be sure to back up any important data to an external source.

  • Replace original audio from extracted audio

I accidently erased my extracted audio files from my hard drive.
The project used a Zoom H2 to dub the audio with.
When I open the project and SKIP ALL (since the files are missing), the extracted audio shows on my timeline.
Is there a magic wand that can allow me to place the ORIGINAL H2 audio back in where the extracted audio is?
I tried the replace clip feature in the project bin but that didn't work out, it's like it had a different in point.
please let me know if you need more details.

Hit F while the CTI is over the clip in the sequence.  That will load that clip into the Source Monitor, with proper In/Out points.  You can then drag down just the audio to replace the 'extracted' portion.

  • JDialog grabs focus from other Windows apps

    Help,
I have a Swing V1.3.1 program that pops up a notification in a JDialog when it receives some information. The JDialog has two JButtons, one to dismiss (setVisible(false)) and another to do ordinary button stuff. The problem is that under MS Windows2000, if the user is in another application, e.g. Outlook, when the JDialog is made visible Outlook looses focus to the JDialog. All I want is for the JDialog to appear, not to receive focus, since the user is doing something else in another application. Is there some way for the JDialog to "setVisible" yet leave "focus" where ever it currently is, i.e. another application?
    Respectfully,
    John Alfredo

I'm not too familiar with trying to prevent focus, I usually want it the other way around, but to take a stab at it and hopefully help you or give you some ideas to try:
What about adding a FocusListener to the JDialog and when it tried to get focus then just deny it somehow. Of course, I'm not sure how the program will know when you are not interested in it except that maybe if you have a JFrame or other component that will initiate this JDialog you can use the FocusListener to check that the parent, i.e. the frame, has or had focus, and if so, give the JDialog focus. I am of course assuming that the frame would not have focus if you are using another program at that time but I can't be sure.
    addFocusListener:
public void addFocusListener(FocusListener l)Adds the specified focus listener to receive focus events from this component when this component gains input focus. If l is null, no exception is thrown and no action is performed.
    Parameters:
    l - the focus listener.
    Since:
    JDK1.1
    See Also:
    FocusEvent, FocusListener, removeFocusListener(java.awt.event.FocusListener)
    Hope that helps!
