Recording Audio Narration in FCP 6

Is there a way to record spoken word directly into FCP 6 for simple web based videos?
Thanks.

By spoken word, I just meant narration.
I tried searching Help, however, when I enter "voice over" in the search text field, it
does not bring up any information. Instead it opens up the Tools menu and highlights the Voice Over tool.
I connected an EV mic using an adapter to go from XLR to the mic input on my Macbook Pro. I set an I and an O point on the Timeline and started recording. The
resulting track is VERY low in volume. Is there anything I can do to increase the volume besides adjusting the Gain or raising the volume in the Timeline, which could introduce noise?
Is this just the way it is if you do not use a mixer or some sort?
Thanks.

  • Wanting to develop iOS app on Azure for sharing recorded audio stories/narratives

I'm about to start developing an app for iPhone (and eventually Android) that should allow users to:
    -record audio narratives
-upload those audio narratives to azure
-browse and listen to the audio narratives that others users have uploaded
-I really want to be able to stream these narratives for playback instead of just downloading or doing a progressive download
I've been trying to use Azure and its media services to achieve this, but I really haven't found any good documentation for audio streaming, especially with iOS/objective-c.  There seems to be a lot on video streaming, but nothing on audio.
I'm not an inexperienced developer, but I have never messed with media streaming, and I am fairly new to iOS.  Any suggestions? Is Azure the right way to go? Do I really need to stream or would progressive download really be good
enough in my case? Would I be able to get far enough using the video streaming tutorials? (ie, is the code for streaming video and audio pretty much the same?) Are there any other third party services or APIs that would work well to accomplish
this in conjunction with Azure? Any other insights or links to documentation would be great.  The only real constraint is that we want to do this on iOS first (vs switching to Android or other platform, though eventually we do want to expand
    to other platforms).  Thank you!

Unfortunately, the burden is on the app developers to make their stuff fit with the iOS, not on Apple to accommodate them. Uninstalling and reinstalling is probably your only fix. And if their app isn't compatible with iOS7, then you may be needing to look for a new app.
I'd just go ahead and delete it and reinstall it. Chances are that file either isn't there or is corrupt and won't work anyway.

  • VoiceOver/Record Audio

I have been able to capture voiceovers with the record audio button in FCP but all of a sudden for no particular reason this function has stoppped working. Now whenever i attempt to capture audio the little box pops up but the dropdown where you are supposed to select the destination is blank:
If i try to hit record anyway it begins to record and it seems to be working except the recording does not appear in my timeline. Also i cannot click the end recording button i have to close the record audio box by the little "x" on the upper left.

Ok - I have made screen captures of the proper settings in the Midi Audio Setup:
For The DEFAULT INPUT -- Microphone:
For Built in Output Set AS Default in Midi Audio Devices:
So in Audio Midi setup make certain that the internal Mic has a mic to the right of it (default)
and the Speaker Icon (Built in Output) has a Mac System Icon & speaker icon to the right of it showing it tobe the default.
If yours doesn't look like the above, click on the gear and - with ONLY the internal Mic or built in speakers
selected above - make them the default.
IN The SYSTEM SETTINS ---  SOUND ----
The Output should be internal speakers -- NOT MUTED
And for the input in Sound sysytem Settings, make sure out put volume is NOT muted:
If you have your system set up correctly, as you snap your fingers ot speak, you should
be able to see the input level respond in real time  (This is what Final Cut "sees"):
IN system sound, the soundflower outputs are muted and it says - The selected device has no output controls
The same for the sounflower (64ch) - "No Output Controls" and muted.
Click on the ? in any of the above windows on your own computer to see selected in depth help on this.
Now you should be able to use the recorder in FCP X w/o issue, in real time. it will save your audio in the event or project that you are "in" or have selected in the browser.
    Has this been helpful?

  • In FCP.  Trying to record voiceover.  Go to Window, Record Audio, see the record window and FCP quits in about 2 seconds.

Trying to record audio voiceover.  Go to Window, Select Record Audio, see the record window and FCP quits in about 2 seconds.  Can't get started??

I think you've got the right driver selected, otherwise it wouln't work at all. The single most obvious thing to ask you though (I'm sorry if this is too basic) is where you have the pan controls set to? To get each mic to record on a single channel, you'd have to have one panned hard left and the other panned hard right. If you leave them both panned dead centre, that's exactly what you get - both mics on both channels.

  • QT Screen Recording audio app + narration

I'm trying to create a QT Screen Recording where the app in question is an audio app - the only audio recorded is the microphone. One solution is to use Soundflower. Soundflower itself is simple.. after installing, use Garageband's audio preferences to output to Soundflower, and set QT's Screen Recording audio input to Soundflower. This sends all the GB audio directly to QT.
However, that excludes the Mac's own microphone and anything I might wish to say - and record.
An Audio Midi Setup "aggregate device" allegedly allows multiple sound sources to be mixed together. I created one using the Mac's microphone and the Soundflower audio source (i.e. Garageband output).
    A block diagram would be:
    Garageband audio out>Soundflower
Aggregate device: Mac Mic + Soundflower (Garageband output)
Aggregate device is set as the QT audio input device - except it doesn't show up in the Record tool!!
And what should the System Audio Output be set to during QT recording?
Soundflower offers another piece supposedly offering audio mixing called SoundflowerBED. It's running up in my Menu bar, but the choices it offers are cryptic.
    Any wisdom on this???
    thanks - Karl out West

Can I record audio when screen recording?
Depends on which app you are using and what form of audio you want to record. E.g., QT X can record audio via the line in or built-in microphone option but not the system audio. On the other hand, an application like Snapz Pro X can record microphone and/or the Mac system audio.
Are there settings for the quality of recording, etc?
QT X has two quality presets from which to choose. Third-party screen capture apps may have other options. E.g., Snapz Pro X allows the user to select any of audio and/or video compression options for which the system is configured for final output.

  • How do I continuously record audio over a trimmed cpvc software video?

I created a cpvc (video demo) and trimmed out several parts of the movie.
Each place I trimmed out a part of the movie, a transition point was added to the timeline.
Now when I do Audio->Record to->Project Narration (or Video Narration), the recorder stops each time it hits a trimmed spot (a transition point).
I need to be able to record a narration to my video beginning to end without it stopping at each trimmed spot.
    How do I do this?
    I am using Adobe Captivate 8 v 8.0.0.145

In the control panel that runs across the center of the screen in FCP, you'll see three icons just below the Event browser window.  To the right of the three icons, there's a down arrow (seen here with my cursor arrow on top of it).  Click that little down arrow and you'll see the secret to your dilemma.
Yes, you can choose to edit in both the audio and video, just the video, or just the audio.

  • Record audio is not working

Does anyone know why when I open up the "Record Audio" button why it would not be recording?  The audio box appears but there is no sound.  It was working but now..... it has stopped and could use some advice.  Thanks.

The fact that it also fails in iMovie suggests that this is probably not a problem with FCP X.
That leaves either a hardware failure or a software conflict.
You can check whether the microphone itself is functional by testing in System Preferences->Sound directly.
Open the input panel and speak into the microphone. As you speak, you should get some visual feedback like in the picture below. Do you get some bars or does it stay the same all the time?

  • Extract Audio Narration Track from Keynote with Voice Over

I just found a way to extract the audio narration track from a keynote I recorded using the voice over feature.
    I used BetterZip.
I right-clicked on my keynote to show the "Open With..." contextual menu. I had the keynote open with BetterZip instead of Keynote and it extracted all the elements of the presentation into a folder. I saw in there several audio tracks.
Now, Keynote did not split the audio tracks into individual slide snippets but that's better than any other technique I have read on this forum so far.
I hope this helps someone in the future.

If you save your Keynotes as a package, then you can right click and +Show Package Content+ and see all the files that make up your Keynote as well. To save your Keynotes as a package go to Preferences and click +Save new documents as packages.+

  • Manually recorded audio is being truncated at beginning

I'm recording narration for a Captivate 3 movie of a software
demo. After I record the audio for a slide, I use the built-in
audio editor to replace the "ramp-up" (noise) at the very beginning
of the recording (usually about 0.7 seconds before the voice
speaks) with silence ("Insert Silence"). This technique has worked
quite well for several demos that I have created, and during
Preview my voice begins to speak about 0.7 seconds after the slide
appears. (This is what I want -- let the user first see the slide,
then hear the description. It "feels" quite natural.)
Today, however, although I have been doing the same thing in
the Audio Editor, I find that when I click OK and return to the
slide this silence at the beginning of the audio has been
discarded. In Preview, as soon as the slide displays the voice
immediately begins to speak; this "feels" too rushed. And, indeed,
if I edit the audio (Audio > Edit Timing > Slide) I find that
the silence that had been at the beginning no longer exists.
I can fix the audio timing, of course, by moving the audio
track to begin at 0.7 seconds rather than 0.0 seconds, but that's
one more manual operation to perform.
Any idea why this suddenly began happening? And how to
    prevent it from happening?
    Thanks,
    Bill

Thanks, Rick. I am recording audio individually for each
slide, and I find an annoying "click" at the very beginning of each
recording as the audio signal starts its ramp-up to the first word
that I speak. I like to eliminate this click, so I select the
waveform from 0.000 till just before the voice starts, and insert
silence. I haven't found any problems in my headphones from doing
    so.
In previous movies, Captivate retains this initial silence
(usually about 0.5 to 0.7 seconds) in the audio recording. In my
current movie, though, C3 is discarding the silence, and the audio
track starts immediately with my first word. Thus, I need to shift
the audio track to begin at 0.5 seconds into the slide...another
    manual step on each slide.

  • Record audio and burn audio cd

    Hello
What would be the best  way to record audio (from the mic) on an imac, and then burn to audio cd (CD-R)?
I can find a target in compressor for this.
I can record ok onto a timeline and cut but then how to create audio cd?
or should I use use something other than FCP
Many thanks and Happy New Year from France

    Hi
Yes ok with iTunes but I want to create separate tracks first.
Normally, (i'm used to doing this on a pc) tracks are made from each separate file.
How can I therefore create separate files first from from a continuous recorded stream.
    Tx

  • RECORD AUDIO ISSUE

This morning, I woke up to my VO from last night (auio tracks in timeline) with a red bar thru all three.
Plus, Record Audio is not allowing a destination thus not allowing to record.  I didnt mess with any settings before I shut down last night.
    Help - Thank you
imac 27'  running Maverick with FCPX 10.1.1

I can't offer any definite solution other than to try trashing the preferences.
Corrupt preferences can create a vast range of different symptoms, so whenever FCP X stops working properly in any way, trashing the preferences should be the first thing you do using this free app.
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/
Shut down FCP X, open PreferenceManager and in the window that appears:-
    1. Ensure that  FCP X  is selected.
    2. Click Trash
The job is done instantly and you can re-open FCP X.

  • Having someone else record audio in Captivate 5 presentation

Does anyone know how I have someone else record on an captivate 5 presentation if they don't Captivate? I have created online training and I need it translated. They do not need to publish, or create the presentation - they just need to record audio. I had the functionality in Adobe Presenter and I am hoping that it exists in Captivate 5. - Please help!

    Welcome to our community
Generally speaking, they can just watch your finished Captivate presentation and use an audio recording application such as Audacity, SoundBooth or other to record the narration. Then they supply that back to you as one or more WAV or MP3 files. You then insert those files into your Captivate projects and re-publish.

  • Captivate 8 - Mouse Click/Audio Narration Issue

I receorded my software simulation, then added recorded narration to each slide afterward. When I go to preview my course, each time the mouse click happens, the audio narration volume is decreased slighly before, during, and slightly after the mouse click. I wish I could say it was by a neglible amount, but on certain slides it nearly "covers" my narration completely. I can't seem to find anything in the Adobe Captivate forums about this specifically, which is surprising! So that leads me to believe there is a setting somewhere. Has anyone else encountered this?

    Hi there
The fact you don't see references to this in the forums is indicative of the fact that (at least for me) this is the first such report I've seen of this specific behavior. It could be that it's a bug. Following that, I'd strongly urge you to file a bug report on it using the link below:
    http://www.adobe.com/go/wish
The behavior you are describing is consistent with what I might expect of the Background Audio and Slide narration.
If you aren't using Background Audio, perhaps try clicking Audio > Import to > Background so you get the dialog. Then configure the dialog so you clear the option for reducing the volume.
Once you have done this and clicked Save, click Audio > Remove > Background and see if that fixes anything. If not...
Try clearing the preferences and publish again,
My crystal ball is on the fritz and my psychic skills are nearly non-existent, so I can't tell whether you are using the Mac or the PC version. But if it's the PC version, here is how you clear the preferences.
    Close Captivate
Right-click the Shortcut icon and choose Properties
From the Shortcut tab, click the Open File Location button
Windows Explorer should open - From there, locate the Utils folder
    Double-click the CleanPreferencesWin.bat file
    Restart Captivate and test
    Cheers... Rick

  • Record a narrated slideshow for YouTube?

Can Keynote do this? I want to take some photos, record some narration, and turn it into an audio slideshow that I can upload to YouTube. The images would automatically be displayed in order as the narration plays. If Keynote can't do this, perhaps another app can, like iMovie?

Hi Dancing Letters: It's a bit of a slice matching the narration to the transitions. I'm still working on getting it right, but here's what I did, or am still doing until I figure out a better way.
I do the slideshow first. Then I read the script and time myself on each page as to how long it takes to read the script for each slide.
I then set the transitions to a bit longer.
The problem is, when you export to Quicktime the transition time changes. However, I see that you can set the slide time and transition time when you export, so what I'm trying now is to set a fixed time for each slide that matches the option in the export to quicktime menu, ie., 5 seconds, and the build at 2 seconds. That way I know what I'm working with. I try to keep the script about 4 seconds just for a bit of leaway.
So when I record the audio in GB, I know I have 4 seconds for each page/slide.
Also, I record in GB without looking at the Keynote presentation. That way I can add a background music track as well as the voice over. I then select the recording I made in the inspector and add it to the K presentation.
It's not working perfectly, and there has to be a better way. I'm looking at Aperture right now as it seems to be more flexible than Keynote.
I'm signing off now but will check back later to see if you have a better idea or method. Perhaps someone else will come along, as well, to help us out.
