Recording audio on garageband

HELP! I've recorded audio on garageband as a podcast using the female voice and it sounds pretty good when I export it to my itunes. I tried emailing it to someone else though and they said they couldn't open it in itunes or windows media. They were finally able to open it in QuickTime but the volume was so low even when they turned it up they could hardly hear me speaking. I need to save it as a normal mp3 i think so I can send it to people and they can listen to the audio in whatever program they use but i dont know how to do this and make the volume louder. thanks for the advice!

Go to share in menu and choose Export to disk and choose mp3.
To make it a little louder you can try boosting the track volume and master volume some. But if it's loud enough when you play it in itunes it should be the same when someone else listens to it in itunes.

  • Problems recording audio through garageband

Hello Mac world, I'm completely new to the Mac computers, and just purchased my MacBook Pro with a 2.3 ghz quad-core i7 processor, 16 GB of RAM, and 512 GB SSD, so I don't think specs are the problem to my issue. I purchased the Mac to record audio, and also purchased an audio interface to record through (Focusrite Scarlett 2i2). I have downloaded the most recent drivers for that. I connected my guitar through the instrument input, connected the interface through USB, and connected headphones into the headphone jack. I can hear the audio playback while I play through the headphones, but my problem relates to the actual recording process, as well as the audio playback.
When recording, I get the following error: "Error while trying to synchronize Audio and MIDI - Sample rate 41068 recognized. Check conflict between GarageBand and external device". I read that GarageBand requires a sample rate of 41000, but I don't know how to check/change that. I also can't hear the metronome or the count in while I play/record. My input source is Mono 1 (Scarlett 2i2 USB), instead of Stereo (Scarlett 2i2 USB) in both my GarageBand preferences and my System Preferences.
Next, I have a problem hearing the audio playback after recording. Again, I can hear the guitar while I play, but not after I record. Also, like I mentioned above, I can't hear any metronome or count in.
I also successfully recorded using a MIDI controller when connecting directly from the controller to computer using USB. Again, I don't think that my system specs are an issue, but I am completely new to the Mac side of things, and am not sure where I am going wrong with this.
Does anyone have any clues as to what the issue may be? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Adam

  • Controling mic gain when recording audio in Garageband (iOS)...

I am trying to make some recordings of me playing live in garageband.
I have a pretty nice mic that I am running to an iMic then into
my iPad via the USB camera connector.
It seems to work, the problem is the signal is too loud
and a lot of distorition is recorded. Is there a way to control
the mic input gain in Garageband?
    Thanks,

It's under the sound section. Try turning the imput volume down.

  • I'm trying to record audio into my iPad2 using GarageBand and an iRig, but I can't monitor my tracks at the same time as recording, meaning if I lay down a drum track and attempt to record guitar, I can't hear the drums while recording. Thoughts?

Hi, I have this exact same problem. I haven't been using an iRig, just a cheap USB-jack cable. I managed to do this with the first cable I bought, but since it broke I've been unable to find a replacement that allows me to hear the drums while recording. DId you manage to get over this issue? If so I would really like to know how. Thanks and best wishes.

    Hi Life93,
What you describe would be possible by recording your video, then removing the audio from it and adding audio from GarageBand once the video is in iMovie (I presume here that you are using iMovie for your video production. Other applications may need different methods.)

  • Recording Macbook audio on Garageband for a podcast

Me and a friend have started a gaming podcast and I can't work out if I'm able to record audio playing on my Macbook pro directly into the recording.
A basic example would be to play a video on Youtube and have the audio from that record whilst being able to talk over the audio using microphones. It would also be nice to be able to play the audio introducing each segment and not have to worry about dragging the pre recorded files into the timeline.
An alternative would be to play the audio on an ipad and have that record using a mini jack cable plugged into the headphone/mic input on the Macbook.
Can this be done? I don't seem to be able to find anything using Google.
    I'm using Garageband 11 (ver 6.0.5)
    Macbook Pro 13" Early 2011
    OSX Maveriks 10.9.3
    Many Thanks

Download a free (great app) called Soundflower, which enables routing audio from one app to another.
When you install this app you get new virtual audio inputs and outputs in your operating system called soundflower 2ch and soundflower 64ch. For most purposes you'd use the 2ch option. Go to system preferences>sound>output and set it to soundflower 2ch.
Now your audio from youtube etc. goes into this virtual output rather than to your speakers or headphones (so you won't hear it just yet). Next in Garageband, open up the preferences dialog box and go to the audio/midi tab. Set the input to soundflower 2ch (now GB is getting the audio sent in from the other end of the soundflower virtual channel) but if you want to hear what's going on make sure the output is set to either headphones port, internal speaker, or something that you'll be able to listen to.

  • Recording audio through firewire in GarageBand, possible?

If I hook up my XLR mic to my Sony PD150, then hook the camera to my MacBook Pro through firewire, I can record in Quicktime fine. However when I try the same thing in Garageband it doesn't work (in Preferences, the only 2 options are "in-built mic" and "in-built line in"; in Quicktime I get a "DV Audio" option which is my firewire input).
Does Garageband just not support Firewire audio at all, or is it just my particular setup that is confusing it?
    Using Garageband 3

  • Record audio Yamaha Clavinova and Garageband

I want to record audio: keyboard playing live and vocals,(the clavinova has a voice processor onboard) and also play a midi file with live vocals.
I've never done this using Garage band. can someone give me the steps? I'm somewhat familiar with Garageband but haven't used it a lot. I could use a step-by-step tutorial (video?) if there is one

Do you have an audio interface with two inputs?
You need to cable the output of the keyboard to one input on the interface and the microphone (for vocals) to another input on the interface.
Create two real instrument tracks in GB and set the input for each track to the input on your interface.
The MIDI file can be played back in GB simultaneously on a software instrument track with the instrument of your choice.
For a really, really good video tutorial, starting with the basics on how to use GB 09 I recommend these guys:

  • Recording audio from a MicroKorg

    Anyone?
I have set up a tascam us-122, microKorg synthesizer/vocoder along with my speakers. Have not had any problems listening to audio, using midi etc. etc. Trying to record audio into LE8.0 from the Korg and am receiving an Error Mp2 code not found? Any ideas on what I could be doing wrong? I have not had any issues when recording into garage band or cubase with the Korg and am able to utilize LE8.0 fine other than this issue.

    Hi,
it sounds a bit like a driver problem. I've heard that mp2 is often used as the "language" by which an audio/video interface and computer cummunicate. Have you updated to Leopard recently??
I'd certainly check if the interface is still working in Garageband or Cubase.

  • Recording audio from a soundboard

Hello fellow iMac'ers, got a brand iMac with OSX Mavericks. I'm trying to set it up to record sound from a Peavey XR1212. I'm a PC guy, so I'm used to using Audacity to do the same procedure, so I downloaded it and tried to get it to work.  The soundboard has an "mp3 in" line as well as an RCA out jack.  The iMac does not have a mic in line, only a headphone port.  I called Apple Support and the representative informed me that the headphone port on the Mac is smart enough to determine whether I would be using it for headphones of a mic in line, so I should put the mic in line there.  So my set up was running an RCA jack (red and white connected to soundboard) with a headphone jack on the other end into the headphone port on the Mac.  When I began recording on the through Audacity, the program did not show me the soundboard or the RCA jack as one of the available options to choose to record sound from, it defaulted to the internal mic on the Mac as the only option.
I did not try going from the "mp3 in" line from the soundboard (which btw is a headphone port as well) to the headphone port on the back of the Mac.  I use an auxiliary cord to play music from the Mac through the soundboard with these headphone ports, but it just didn't seem obvious to me that this set up could be used for recording.
While I was downloading Audacity, the Mac was updating garageband, which I have little to no familiarity with.  I have done some research and found out that I could potentially use this to record from my soundboard as well.  So finally here is my questions:
    1) The back of the iMac has 4 USB ports, 1 FireWire port, 1 headphone port and 1 ethernet port.  Since there is no "mic-in" port, what port can I use to record audio from the soundboard in audacity or garageband?
    2) If I go from the soundboard with an RCA into the headphone port on the Mac, can I use garageband to record?

Thanks. Now, since Apple failed to provide an audio in jack for their new and improved iMacs (mine has one), all I can suggest is that you contact AppleCare, since you have 90-dqy free phone support. If need be, you might reconsider your purchase, but that's for you to decide.

  • Freezes when I hit record (audio)

When I have audio already on a track and hit record midway, it freezes. Strangely, I can start a new empty track and record audio from there, but if I try to cut in on a track midway with audio on it, it freezes. Using Logic 10.1.0, Mac OS 10.9.4 6 GB memory, plenty of room on disk, formatted Mac OS Extended. Using a Scarlett 18i8 interface, but it does the same thing when using Core Audio on the Mac. And no crash report will surface when I force quit. Have tried permissions repair to no avail. And tried removing all unused audio tracks from the Project Audio list, does not help.
    Anyone?

Actually, there were not steps suggested (at least that I saw) for garageband freezing when I hit record. I read through all the links (and almost went blind) and and did a search on the site, maybe I missed it.
If you have an answer to this probelem I would love to try any suggestions.
    Thanks

  • Logic 7.1.1 won't let me record audio!

Installed Logic Pro 7 as upgrade to Logic Express. After initial install, I was able to record one audio track. Also, wanted to get my external midi modules to play back through audio track. After switching the audio driver back and forth between Built-In Audio and FireBox, something happened where I cannot see the "Rec" button in the channel strip. Therefore, cannot record audio tracks.
I checked to see if I could record in Logic Express and GarageBand and worked just fine. Back to Logic Pro 7, it also seems that changing input/output sources in the Audio/MIDI setup app had no impact on anything. I changed the output to Built-in audio and would still hear through the FireBox. Interesting in GarageBand I can set the input to FireBox, the output to Built-In Audio and can hear what I'm recording and audio instrument and audio tracks through my computer speakers. Not the case in Logic - when I go into the Audio setup, I can only choose one driver or the other (Built-In or Firebox). As mentioned earlier, making changes to the Audio/MIDI Setup has no effect in Logic.
    Please help.

  • Recording Audio

I hope this is in the right section.
Whenever I try to record audio into my Mac Mini, whether it be through garageband, or audacity or the like program, my recording pics up this weird noise.
Not sure how to explain it.. it's almost like background noise. But since I dont' have anything else turned on when I record...
My condesnor mic is plugged into a mixer board, then into the Griffin iMic, which is set to record line in.
I have tried this on my other computer, whcih is a PC, and it doesn't have this noise.
    Any thoughts?

    Hi Michael--
I'm guessing the Griffin iMic is the culprit. I had
one of those I was using with a G4 Power Mac and was
getting the same hissing or background noise in
recorded audio as you described. Just to rule out my
mixer and the G4 itself, I tried the iMic with an
iMac and a PowerBook, and had the same hissing sound
as with the G4 (but straight line-in recordings on
these Macs without the iMic yielded clean sound). I
did a little digging and discovered the iMic was a
problem for other users as well. So, what you may
have to do is try a higher-end FireWire or USB-audio
adaptor, maybe something from M-Audio, Edirol or
    MOTU.
(One more thing, if it's any reassurance. I have
decent-quality USB mic that I use with my own Mac
mini, and recorded sound using it is perfectly clean
and totally without extraneous noise. Your mini
should be capable of the same with the right
    equipment.)

    Hi,
Thanks for you reply, I think for the time being I'll stick with using the windows machine, at least til I can afford to get another Mac.
It's not the ideal solution, since it's noiser than the Mac Mini... but it's all i've got to work with at the moment.
