Recording audio (vocals, voice overs) setup help

Hello Everyone;
having a hard time setting up a recording. The problems I’m having are of the following
A. Every time I record audio/vocal over a beat the artist is able to hear their audio while recording live. I’m trying to have the artist hear the beat and sing over it without hearing their own vocals while recording.
B. I also would like to setup headphone capabilities for my artist and myself while doing live recording. In the past I’ve seen on previous tutorials that shown how to achieve the tasks but...I’ve forgotten!!!

Does your sound card have a headphone output? If it does connect a female single to double jac adapter so you can attach 2 pairs of headphones.

Unable to record audio for Voice Over from camera

Hi All:
I have an early 2008 black macbook, FCE4 and a canon HV 30 with an xlr adapter and mic. Imported all my footage just fine. Now I want to record a voiceover track using my nice mic through the camera. I plug in the camera to the computer via firewire. When I go to Voice Over Tool and try to select DV Audio, it tells me this:
"The Selected sound input device is unavailable.
It may be in use by another application, disconnected or improperly connected, or may be conflicting with a video output device."
Uh, okay. I check the manual, it warns me that "External Video" under the View menu must be to OFF. Problem is, there is NO "External Video" option whatsoever in the View menu! None! Whatsoever!
My firewire port is functioning, the computer knows there's a camera attached to it (I checked the Hardware overview, and surely enough the computer detects the camera)...
What am I doing wrong?

I have Built-In Microphone, Built-In Input and DV Audio as source options...but I only get the above-mentioned error message when I select DV Audio. Even when I don't have the firewire & camera connected, I get that same error message when I select DV Audio...which makes me think that the computer doesn't detect the camera, but I know it does because the computer detects a Canon HV 30 in System Profiler (and I can capture w/o a problem...I just click Capture and press escape when the tape end is reached).
And what I meant earlier about capturing is that a window does pop up whenever I'm capturing from my camera and it shows the footage during capture, but the computer does not automatically respond to just my plugging the firewire cable in (idk if it's supposed to recognize it and ask me if I want to capture or not, but it doesn't...I have to prompt it to capture)
I'm also puzzled that I don't have an External Monitor option under View...I'm not using an external monitor, and the only thing close to External Monitor under the View menu is Video Out, under which there are: Refresh Video Devices, Toggle Last, Canvas Playback & Digital Cinema Desktop Preview - Main.

In my iphone6, voice over got switched on and screen got locked. Phone is not responding for slide but only responding for double tap. Phone is not accepting my passcode as I double tap in passcode screen. Single tap just gives a voice over. pls help

External recording indication for voice over recording

hi,
i'm wondering if there is any way to get recording indication for voice over recording out of final cut pro or soundtrack pro. i need to get the 'on air' signalization to the speaker room which is not the same as editing room.
i'm looking for something like

How about a switch you throw to turn on a recording light in the booth? I think less tech here is likely better.

Audio not recording properly doing voice-overs CS5

I'm in Premiere Pro CS5, the Audio Mixer window.
I'm using an external Go Mic to record a voice-over audio track. It is hit or miss... one time it records audio properly ... then I clear that track and record again and the audio is blank. I notice in these instances that in the Project window the "speaker icon" isn't next to the audio track... instead there is a square white icon with "recycle arrows" instead.
Anyone encounter this? Suggestions?
Update: I found that if i close Premiere Pro and open it again the audio file is there and its complete... ideas as to what causes this???

No audio with voice over

I am redoing a 2008 project. I get no audio for either music or voice over when playing timeline. When I mute the voice over, then I get audio for the music.
I followed advice to eject external disk that contained the voice over file, since it said that somehow the voice over was not synched or something like that. I rebooted because it said that by rebooting the problem might be solved.
I have video out set to canvas playback as was suggested in this forum.
The disk my voice over is on is not the same as the disk the other aspects of the movie are on. When I play the voice over segments on the disk where they are stored, I hear them just fine in real player.
So what should I do to be able to hear them in FCE?
Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you!

Who or what is "it"? When reporting warning dialogs from FCE, the more accurate you can be with reporting exactly what the warning dialog says - the faster you can be advised of a solution to your problem.

I'm sorry, I don't understand what you are saying. Are you speaking about output controlled by the View menu or a setting in the Audio/Video settings? Is this audio problem associated with +outputting the video+ to an external device or is the problem apparent when using the audio monitoring on the Mac?

Are they Real Player documents? Or did you mean Quicktime player?
So what should I do to be able to hear them in FCE?
If you look at your browser, are there clips that have red bars slashed through them? If so, control click on the clip and from the drop down menu choose Reconnect Media. If the clip is showing up on the timeline with a Red Media Offline thumbnail you can also do this by control-clicking on the offline clip on the timeline.
When the reconnection Pane opens, you will see the file listed as Offline and a directory path where FCE last found the file. You can steer FCE to the location of the file that you found and verified using the your audio player, and reconnect the media so that FCE now links to that file.
Post back if this does not help.

hey guys, im looking to post some videos on youtube, but instead of just simple playing into a camera, i want the audio to be recorded into my mic.

how do i play my guitar live with my vocals though?

The poor man's way:
1. get your mic and guitar plugged into separate channel strips in Logic (I think the guy in the YouTube video had a pickup in his acoustic, and was running that into his DAW, and the vocal mic was a separate track
2. have your camera set up and ready to go, and Logic ready to record the vocal and guitar
3. start record on video and Logic
4. clap your hands a few times before starting your song .... helps for syncing up later
5. mix down and bounce your logic audio to a stereo file
6. in iMovie (or the like), with your video track open and in place, import your audio track
7. manually "slide" your logic audio back and forth in time until it syncs with your video
8. post online and wait for MTV calls

Record slideshow WITHOUT voice-over?

I want to export my keynote slideshow to QT, and have practiced the slide timing and progressions to align to music. However, when I go to record the slideshow, I get an audio record function (presumably to record your voice with the slides). This causes the music to be doubled, and sound terrible.
How can I record the slideshow to only retain the song that is embedded in the presentation with my click timing, etc. without any other overdub recording?

When you go to export to Quicktime, make sure that you have checked "Include audio (sound file, movie audio)" and do not check "Include the slideshow recording".

Get thump noise when clicking record button of voice over iMovie 11

Hello,
When I try to record a voiceover in iMovie 11, the record button that I click to record does not load. There is a thump noise every time I click on it. The audio of my microphone is set to not too loud or soft and should work. I also do have a defined timeline as well. I want to record my voice and mute the sound that is already in the timeline. Do you have any suggestions as to what I should do to be able to record my voice in the movie?
I am not sure if my question has already been submitted to one of these online forums, and I apologize if it has. If it has, could you provide me the link?

The problem was no longer excist after the last iMovie updates.

Extract Audio Narration Track from Keynote with Voice Over

I just found a way to extract the audio narration track from a keynote I recorded using the voice over feature.
I used BetterZip.
I right-clicked on my keynote to show the "Open With..." contextual menu. I had the keynote open with BetterZip instead of Keynote and it extracted all the elements of the presentation into a folder. I saw in there several audio tracks.
Now, Keynote did not split the audio tracks into individual slide snippets but that's better than any other technique I have read on this forum so far.
I hope this helps someone in the future.

If you save your Keynotes as a package, then you can right click and +Show Package Content+ and see all the files that make up your Keynote as well. To save your Keynotes as a package go to Preferences and click +Save new documents as packages.+

Working with voice over and a Blackmagic Multibridge Eclipse

I cant make the voice over work with my Blackmagic. I've tried with my M-Audio but I get the same result... No audio in voice over. The only way I can record is if I use Soundtrack.

so many options here but to start with basics:
using Firewire:
mic > XLR cable > XLR mic input of mixer > Firewire out of mixer > Firewire Input of Mac
using Decklink:
mic > XLR cable > XLR mic input of mixer > balanced output of mixer > balanced line in of Decklink
the mixer must have a mic input, which has an internal preamp, a line level input is no use; you need some thing like this ?

FCE Voice Over

I have successfully added several voice-over clips to their respective video clips in the FCE HD (v 3.5.1) time line. Now when I try to record the next voice-over clip, I get the message "The specified capture destination file already exists". How do I get beyond this message so I can continue recording voice-over clips? Thanks, Jack Akerboom

Voice Over won't switch off on my iphone 4

I'm getting a bit annoyed with it now, the **** thing won't stop talking to me, I can't scroll down anything, I've tried triple clicking on the round button but it's not stopping the voice over. Help please? Thank you

I am having the exact same problem. If when the phone is powered off, the flash light stays on. I did a hard reset, and the problem persists.

Voice overs in GB- iMovie

Well, I've been trying to get a decent recording for a voice over in GarageBand. So far so good. Except there's just too much fuzz in the background. I use a microphone line-in. I have my voice set on 'male speech'. It sounds good when I listen to it, but it makes a huge difference when I throw it into my timeline in iMovie. It just doesn't jell with my sound FX, music, etc. So I decided to do a straight voice over into iMovie with the internal microphone. I didn't get the fuzz (ambient noise) but I sure didn't get the recording I got in GB. Are there any precautions I can take to avoid this unwanted noise. Many thanks.
