Recording Camcorder video to DVD with Satellite 1900

I have just tried to record a video from my camcorder to a DVD-R but kept getting the message 'drive not found' My computer is a Satellite 1900 and happily plays DVD's. but would appear not to want to record them.
Does the type of DVD make any difference, is there a way to make the computer recognise the disc in drive E:
The video happily transfers from the camera to the computer and I can play it on the computer but cannot transfer it to a DVD disc, anyone with any ideas??

Hi
One question; do you have an DVD writer or only the DVD reader!?
Please be sure that you can also burn DVD with your notebook and not only view.
Second question; what burning applications did you use?
I use Nero and its my favorite burning program. It supports many burning modes and burns the medium with best performance.
Check it!

  • Transferring old videos to DVD with Satellite M70

Is it feasible to connect a video recorder to a Satellite M70 in order to transfer video tape recordings to DVD? If it is, what cable do I need?

    Hi there,
since your notebook is only equipped with an TV-OUT, you cannot just connect a video recorder to your machine, because to do this you will need an Video-IN.
The only chance you have is to purchase a external video grabber for PCMCIA or USB.
With such Video Grabber youre able to receive external video signals and to record/edit them.
Heres a link which shows you an example what I mean:

    Hope that will help you.

  • What do I need to transfer my iphone and camcorder videos onto dvd

I have a MacBook Pro Mac OS X. Version 10.7.5
It came with imovie, idvd, iphoto and garage band. I have a ton of iphone vidoes and some camcorder videos(on a sd card) I need to get onto a dvd somehow. I tried to do it through i tunes but it was difficult and the dvd would not play in my dvd player.
    Do I need IDVD?
What type of DVD's do I need to buy?
    thank you

If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
Then follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Have recorded old videos to DVD, want to import (copy) to my imac to use in a project

I have copied old home videos to DVDs and want to copy (import) portions of a couple to mu mac to use in a slide show/video. Was not able to import at all. Uses DVD+R and finalized. The mac did not see the non finalized dvd. I could even use a work around. Just need a couple of clips.
    Thanks

    Greetings,
If these are video DVDs (you put them in a set top DVD player and they play on the TV) then you'll need some extra software to convert them, as in their present form they cannot be edited.
Apple does not make such software but there are other companies that do.
You can convert your DVDs to a usable form using a variety of programs.  Some examples:
    Free: http://handbrake.fr/downloads.php
    Paid: http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/popcorn/standard/overview.html
NOTE: Neither of these examples will convert copyright protected DVDs as that is illegal (mostly).  If the DVDs you are trying to use were created with copyright protection, the afore mentioned programs will be unable to convert them.
    Cheers.

  • Record camcorder video using Quicktime.

Ok. so since I can't import it to imovie I tried to record a new video using quicktime. It would have worked except that quicktime would only recognize the sound input. Here is a video of the issue.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qc1Wxjx6OmQ
The camera I'm using is a Samsung SC-D453. Is there any way to make Quicktime recognize it?
My other question is. Since this camcorder has a composite-s video out, Can I get a s video to usb adapter that will let me record it to Quicktime? Once it is in .mov IMovie will import it quite nicely.
    thanks

    Ciao
you could launch the recording application, but it will not
within your FL app. Then you need to know the file name and
location since FL cannot browse the file system of the phone.
Also consider that this type of apps do not work for every
phone since some phones do not allow to execute other applications.
Here some tutorials that you can take a look at:

  • VHS tapes recorded in SECAM to DVD (with colour)

Hi We have a collection of SECAM VHS cassettes that I would like to put on disc - we have a Panasonic VHS-DVD machine which is great so long as you are looking at NTSC or PAL but useless for SECAM.  Using the standard copy routine just gives B&W output: better than nothing but not good enough.  Looking at the manual reckon I can output the VHS via a Scart socket to a Video and Audio grabber which will feed the signal into the Mac via a USB 2.0 socket.  (The Scart adapter has the three phono plugs (red white and yellow) which will plug into the "Grabber" (by a firm called LINDY - the system won't allow me to paste their URL but if you put www in front of lindy.co.uk/usb-firewire-c4/usb-converters you should find it - it is Part No. 42886).  If that works and I am not sure it will, the next issue is converting the file from SECAM to PAL - there are black boxes that will do it and maybe that is the (only) answer.  So my questions are (a) will an output from a Scart socket via a USB be readable and what software might I need? (b) Is there a software solution to the format conversion SECAM-PAL or must I go the hardware route?  Thanks M

The SCART adaptor will feed stereo audio and composite video (the yellow plug). If the player isn't SECAM capable then it can't produce the colour sub-carrier and pass it on into the composite output - SECAM's method of encoding the colour information is completely different from PAL and NTCS and so required different circuitry which is not included in players for USA or UK use. No amount of fiddling post-converter will do any good because the colour information isn't there in the first place. The only option is a player designed to handle SECAM, and even then I don't know what sort of output it will produce - presumably SECAM so only a converter specifically designed to be able to handle this will be any good. If it produces a RGB output it might be easier to find a converter, but it's most unlikely - I've never come across a VHS machine with RGB output (there is no point since the incoming signal and the tape itself are composite so RGB offers no quality improvement in the way it does with DVD). Possibly a combined DVD/VHS one would do this, but again it would pretty well have to be French.
Technical note: PAL and NTSC encode both the red and blue into a signal at a frequency which is within the frequency range of the luminance signal (the method of getting two colours into one signal is technically known as 'phase modulation in quadrature' - green is produced by subtracting the sum of red and blue from the luminance) - hence the 'cross colour' problems with for example striped ties. SECAM alternates the red and blue with alternate lines, thus avoiding some of the artefacts but reducing the vertical resolution of the colour part of the signal by half (it's already very low because of the need to get it into the sub-carrier: all the fine detail is in the luminance). So it's not just a question of adjusting the frequency reception of the sub-carrier for NTSC and PAL; even once the sub-carrier is read there is a different method of extracting the colour required.

  • DVD Drive doesn't detect DVDs on Satellite 1900-303

My CD-RW/DVD drive is refusing to play DVDs, acting as though there is no disc in the drive no matter what I try. I haven't used the machine regularly in a while and have just started to discover this.
It also has a problem with burning to blank discs, if that's of any interest. I've bought a lens cleaner but it will not work as the laptop still doesn't recognise the disc. Also, I've never fiddled with the region control, and have already tried re-installing the driver, but to no avail.
    It's a S1900-303, model number PS192E-00G1N-EN.
Any help anyone can give is very much appreciated, this is really inconvenient.
    Thanks a lot.

    Hello guys
First of all if there are any problems with CD or DVD burning you have to test different CD or DVD. Not every CD or DVD is compatible and can be used in the drive.
Therefore check different CD/DVD from different manufactures.
But if the drive will be not able to burn or read any CD/DVD so I assume the drive has a malfunction and only the device replacement could help.
@Judith: You unit seems to be new and the warranty should cover the drive replacement.
But before contacting the ASP in your country check the different medias.
In the user manual you should find a list with compatible and tested CD and DVDs.

  • Recording Itunes videos to DVD

My husband and I just downloaded a TV show from Itunes in the hopes of copying it to DVD for our use. However, the burn command on Itunes is grey when I want to do this.
How can we do this? Thanks for your support!

Not getting what I'm saying one bit...
    Alright... scenario:
Home Based DVD Recorder: No control, pop it in, copy.
PC Based DVD Recorder: You have control over the lead in/lead out, data on the tracks, burn speed, etc.
Now, just because the Mac can READ those media types, doesn't mean it was burned correctly for it to read it. Now, also keep in mind, that it may not be the media, but the drive using it, some drives have a hard time reading certain CDs... like my DVD Recorder in my computer, it doesn't like normal CDs at all, won't install from them hardly, DVDs, run fine, perfect. It even burns CD-R, CD-RW, etc. And it READS the ones it burns, it doesn't read any other burn for some reason, some drives are just PICKY.

  • How to burn hi-def video to DVD with CS3?

i'm using CS3 and for the first time
I'm doing a Hi-Def video project.  But when i copy
the sequence, or export a movie, to my DVD burner, i have quite a bit of loss in video quality.
Someone has told me that i need to get a newer DVD burner (mine is 3-yrs old), since the older ones don't handle Hi-Def properly.  Does anyone know about this?

The DVD specification is for a very specific video format, and that video format is not high-definition.
The high-definition successors to the DVD format were Blu-ray Disc and HD-DVD. Blu-ray seems to have won that format war.
Here's a page about exporting to Blu-ray Disc format.

  • Want to record edit and burn dvds of videos from canon camcorder what is the best way

what is the easiest way to transfer recordings from my canon camcorder hd to dvds after editing. The new imovie does not have idvd on it to burn dvds.

I'm assuming you're editing in iMovie? If you still have an older retail version of iLife, you can use that to install iDVD - I am using it with mavericks. Or, the retail 09 and 11 iLife disks are still available at some online resellers. The best thing out there still is iDVD with its customizable menus, themes, etc. However, there are other options for just burning: one good ons is Roxio Toast; then there is the free app Burn (basic I'm told, but works). Or google for others. Personally, I'd get iDVD.
The new iMovie (or the older versions) did not have iDVD built in - it's just a link to the iDVD application. FWIW, I prefer to use the older iMovie versions because they have more quality options to choose from when exporting. With the new iMovie, choose to export to file and choose your recording size and then you can drag that file into a burning app (or iDVD if you get it).

  • Problem with cd/dvd drive on my Satellite 1900-303

    Hi Every body
I bought a Satellite 1900-303 in 2003. Recently, it's cd/Dvd drive stopped to work properly. whenever I put a Cd in the driver it assumes that the CD is a audio cd. if the CD is completly Audio cd or partly contained audio files it opens the cd without any problem. but if cd is data CD or software CD after trying along time my system hangs up. I change the settings of the properites of Cd drive in Autoplay section from Music file to other options such as "mixed content". but after inserting CD into the drivers it agains changes automaticaly to the "music file". I showed my notebook an expert in computer system and facility, he tried to reinstall windows XP to solve the problem but it didn't work. Since the driver was not working he used external driver to install windows XP. but the problem has not been solved.
Is there anybody who knows by accident what I should do to recover it?
    Awaiting helpful advices.
    Vahed

    HI,
did your friend installed the XP from a MS Cd or from the Toshiba recovery CD?
At my Toshiba notebook the autoplay section is also setted to Music file and works properly!
When did this failure occured for the first time? Did you used the MS System recovery option at Start - Accessories - system prog. - System recovery
Perhaps the backsetting of your system solve the problem!
You can also check if a firmware update is available for your drive! (If it is a Toshiba drive go to http://www.toshiba-europe.com/storage/index.asp?nav=HOM&page=HOM&frame=home

  • Creating a DVD from camcorder video tape

    Hi all,
I am tasked with creating a DVD from some of my dads camcorder tapes. Can anyone provide a simple advice list. I assume that iDVD (which i have never used) will be the software to use?
Look forward to hearing from you helpful and intelligent people out there.
    From a complete simpleton.
    Kind regards,
    Alan

The easiest way (if you don't want to do any editing)
buy a dvd player/recorder, connect the video out of the camcorder to the dvd recorder input.

[Edited by: admin on 05-Nov-05 08:28]

    Hello
On this way it is not easy to give you a proper explanation. I have the same unit (1900-703) and my drive works fine till now. In your posting there is no precise information which player you use. Maybe you must install some codec and on this way you will be able to play all of them. I hope that you use full version player and not some test version.
Markus is absolutely right about CDs and DVD. Many of them can make some troubles and I recommend you to use well known products.
If there is some possibility check the CD on some other computer if they are really burned properly and if you can see data there you can be sure if there is some problem with your drive.
