Recording click track??

Hi, I have been trying unsuccesfully to record a click track onto my arrangements in Logic (panned to the left so that only I can hear it, other tracks panned to the right to go through p.a.) to use in Mainstage - cannot manage to record a click - have resorted to making my own through a percussion or similar instrument in Logic, which sort of works. But wondered if there is a way of simply recording a click...?
Thanks in advance.

Several ways to do this:
1. In logic, create a new software instrument track and use Ultrabeat. I like a hi-hat sound from ultrabeat but you can select whatever fits your purpose. You can then create a midi region and insert the notes yourself. Or you can use the Ultrabeat sequencer to do it.
2.When I use Mainstage, I have created a track at the concert level. There, I put an instance of Ultrabeat. On the ultrabeat sequencer I create a simple step sequence on the 1 2 3 and 4 (as I said previously, you can choose whatever sound fits your purpose). Then, I have a button on my keyboard mapped to the "play" on the Ultrabeat sequencer and I can turn it on or off as I please. Better, the speed changes as I pass from patch to patch because it's at concert level. Just make sure to change the bpm for each patch under the attributes tab.
Hope that helps,

  • Recording audio without simultaneously recording click track?

I don't have an external mixing board. I want to record an audio track (coming in through a small M-Audio Fast Track Pro unit) ... while listening to a click track (KlopfGeist), without recording the KlopfGeist.
Is there a way within Logic 8 to route this?
    All ears,
    Ben

    Hi,
Just playback the click, it will not come back in via the inputs of your audio interface.

  • Recording click to audio track

I have a guitar part that I want to record with a click. I want to be able to take the click track with me. I tried re assigning an audio track to MIDI click and tried recording just the click, but it captures nothing. basically I want to just record the click to a track. How is this done? thanks

Assign the Klopfgeist to an instrument track, open the piano roll editor and write four 1/4 note (if you want an accent on the first beat raise the velocity of the first note).
Now send the output of the track (from the channel strip) to a bus, create an audio track and set it's input to the bus that you chose.
Arm the record button and record a 4/4 measure.
Cut the region and, from the mini menu Audio, choose open in Apple Loops Utility.
Create your Apple Loop click and save it into the loop library: now you have your audio click as an Apple loop so you can use it everytime you need and at any speed.
But it's simpler if you find a single shot Apple loop and use it without to begin from start.

  • I record multiple tracks (3-5) from real instruments and vocals. I want to send these files to a collaborator to add more tracks to, but Garageband wants to mix these down (which I don't want). How can I send the multiple tracks files to my friend?

I record multiple tracks of real instruments and vocals wth Garage Band. I want to share the file with a collaborator so he can add another instrument or two. I have not found a way to do this without the process mixing down the tracks. I don't want them mixed down like when I send them to Itunes. Also I can't seem to just attach a file directly to an email for sending purposes. I thought I saw a method to do this with software instruments, but how do you do it with real instruments? I've tried every process on the "export" list to try to accomplish this, without success. Thanks for any breakthrough advice on this!

As isteveus said - for large projects uploading to a server would be best.
Also I can't seem to just attach a file directly to an email for sending purposes.
But for completeness's sake , you cou can mail a project, if you ctrl-click the project and use "Compress xxx.band". This will compress the project and create a zip file, that you can mail (if it is not too large). But ask your friend for the maximal file size allowed as a mail attachment.
But whichever method you use to share your project, be sure you include all loops and instruments, if your friend does not have the same JamPacks installed. You can bundle the loops into the project by saving it as an archive. "File > Save as" and check the "Archive Project" option.
If this option should be disabled, you can force it to become active by editing your project slightly. It is only available, if the project needs saving.

  • Live recording 16 tracks

I just got 2 firestudio projects and im recording 16 tracks live at my bands shows. im using an intel 8400 processor 3 gigs of ram and aa3. everything starts out nice and about 15 minutes or so in, aa3 just stops recording. is there something im doing wrong? please help this dumb dumb and thanx

Don, did you ever figure this out? I'm having the same problems and I'm going to try out these solutions later today to see if any of this works. Here are some other things I'm going to try...so, I've made a list of things for me and others to check when using daisy chained 2x FSP's and audition.
I'm using a dell laptop. so it might be different for people using a different setup, but here are some things I've collected over forums.
    1. Disconnect from the internet. (one of the most important and overseen solutions i've concluded)
    2. try using onboard firewire or a Firewire "only" card. (people say the firewire/usb combos dont work too well with FSP)
    a. Also using a Texas instruments chipset firewire only card
    3. Try disabling the onboard usb ports
    4. close out all unnecessary programs
    5. make sure that when you right click on the record button on the transport, it's set to continuous record.
    6. Turn off any screensavers or anything running on a timer or background.
    7. try disabling onboard sound card
    8. Make sure all firmware and drivers and software are up to date. (winxp users might want to toy with upgrading/downgrading from sp2/sp3)
Let me know if anyone can add to this. And remember, I'm not an expert on this, I'm just regurgitating what I've seen on the presonus forums and here as well as experienced myself first hand.
    Thanks,
    Ben

  • Recording 2 tracks simultaneously?????

I'm having trouble recording 2 tracks simultaneously in Logic Pro 7. I'm recording a podcast and want to record 2 separate mic's, one for each host.
I have the Lexicon Lambda audio recording interface.
For some reason i cant figure out how to select "Input 2" for my "Track 2". I guess that's really all i need to know how to do........ select "Input 2". I've seached throughout the program and clicked everywhere and just cant seem to figure out how to select it. I click on the bar that says "Input 1", but nothing happens.
Even if i do figure out how to select "Input 2" (which i think i did one night), will i be able to record 2 tracks at once, using 2 different inputs?
This is driving me nuts......... it seems so easy, but i just cant figure it out!!!
    Thank you!! Love you!!!!!!

So I've made progress..... In the menu of the Audio window on the left where it says "Channel: Track 2", I click on the little arrows and I am able to select "Input 2". But then the window underneath the Audio window (the window with the level meter) changes a bit.
I am able to highlight the record button on both tracks 1 and 2, and i'm showing separate volume readings for each...... so everything is good so far.
The problem comes when i actually hit record. I hit record, and the cursor runs, but nothing gets recorded. No waveforms pop up. I've figured that this only happens when i have "Input 2" selected.
Track 1 still will record, but only if it's record button is highlighted by itself.
    This is driving me insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have noticed that in any track that i have "Input 2" selected, the little snowflake button dissapears, as well. This snowflake button is next to the mute and record buttons in the track window. I dont even know what this snowflake button does. Is it a "solo" button? Button. Button. Button.
Does anybody know what is going on??
Do I need to select some kind of "Stereo" setting or something in my Preferences?
    Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Click track - any other alternatives than logic?

    Hi.
I and others that i record with (in particular drummers) want more timing features witha click for example 4/8 or more tones etc. I find that logics click doesnt have this feature and is limited in some areas. Can anyone suggest any other click tracks that can replace logics own?
    Any advice?
    Thanks, Ben

You can get Logic's metronome to trigger midi gear too. So if the sound isn't right you could use an old (or a new!) drum machine, sound module etc.
I'm not sure but I suspect there is way of playing with the metronome in the environment too. perhaps you can trigger an exs sample or two that way.
All these methods mean you can use the standard key commands to switch off the click of course.
I'm not sure about any plugin is available. I can't really imagine what it would do that you can't already do with a bit of tweaking in Logic. A plugin would still need an audio track to "live in".
What sort of timing features are you after? Logic's will do bar + beat + division. If you need some sort of swing to the click I suspect you'll need to look at sample loops or your to own drum programming.
I can't say I've ever had issues with the click in logic.
Just to go off topic a bit regarding drumming and clicks. As a drum teacher I used to teach "playing to a click". From experience and study I found the automatic assumption made by both drummers and "those providing the click" to have the click loud with all beats + divisions wasn't the best way to get a good drum performance. I would encourage my students to play to a very sparse click - just the bar clicks and at a low volume too. At least for practise purposes, the level would be such that the drummer would only hear the click if he was out of time.
This way encourages the drummer to relax and "feel" the tempo leading to a much better performance. I believe loud clicks can improve confidence but can have an adverse affect on other aspects of playing (apart from the annoying headphone spill when recording).
For any drummers out there who haven't tried this approach, I strongly suggest you give this a go. It can feel disconcerting at first but its worth the effort I think.

  • Recording Metronome Track

    Hello,
I need mp3s of various time signatures and bpms. How do I go about recording a "metronome only" track?
I have a mac mini, so I don't have any audio input. I also know that I can buy a usb audio input device.
Thanks for any direction or advice.
    mini   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Create a "Software" drum track, set the time signature and BPM for the song, Command Click in the timeline to create an empty recording region.
Then open the editing pane (Scissors icon) and using the grid for a guide, command click to place the notes on the beat. You can drag the markers up or down in the editor to play different drum sounds until you find the one you want.
Once you've created a single measure, go back to the timeline and grab the top right corner of the region and drag right for as long as you want the "click track" to be.
    Export to iTunes
    Convert to Mp3 ( http://thehangtime.com/gb/gbfaq2.html#converttomp3 )

  • Creating a click track to match an imported audio file?

I used to do this on earlier versions of Logic, but have forgotten HOW I did it. I want to import a piece of audio with a bit of a wavering tempo. I want to create a click track to match that wavering tempo, so I can add further orchestrations quickly, and not have to worry about a perfect, tempo wise, performance.
I can't remember what the 'tap'? process is called, or where best to look for it in the Logic 8 Manual.
    All ears,

  • Why can I only record 2 tracks at a time ?

Until a couple of months ago I could record 10 tracks at once without a hitch. Then something happened and suddenly I could only record 4 tracks at a time. Now I can only record 2 tracks at once. My logic is completely legal and I'm running a Mac Book pro 2.4 Ghz core 2 duo, 2 GB.
I posted this same questions a couple of months ago without any reply.

    Not RAM related.
Record tracks have to be set for individual inputs.
If all your tracks are set to record on inputs 1-2 or Mono 1, Mono 2 you will only have two inputs.
Make sure Universal Track Mode IS selected in Preferences/Audio and that you indeed have the correct audio driver selected. Now go to your tracks and see how many inputs you have available. If you're recording mono tracks set audio tracks 1 and 2 to record using inputs 1 and 2, Audio tracks 3 and 4 to use inputs 3 and 4, stereo tracks will use both inputs.

  • What's the best way of recording drum tracks onto garageband?

I usually use garageband to record acoustic tracks, but I want to get some drums involved. The drum kit software on garageband isn't great and pretty difficult to use with just the macbook keyboard, should I get some kind of USB keyboard or drum kit software from elsewhere? If there's a good keyboard for this purpose could someone link me up, because I'd also like to involve a bit of piano/synths in my recordings.
I should also mention that I'm a student and am therefore on a pretty tight budget!
    Cheers!

Yes, i suggest you to use a MIDI-Keyboard, even a small one (like my M-AUDIO KeyRig25) is good and fun to use. It's also better to use some specific Audio Plug-Ins which you can use in GB. There are many freewares around.

  • 'disk too slow' problems when trying to record ONE TRACK on my ibook.

okay- help guys. my new ibook freezes after not even a minute of one track live recording and i ge the disk too slow error. i'm using a basic m-audio usb interface with the internal (4200 rpm) hard drive. i know this isn't a fast hard drive, but SURELY. one track? i've been in touch with m audio, reinstalled driver, repaired hard disk permissions. still no good. i only ever need to record two live tracks at a time, but then i do need to stack them up a bit. is my ibook really incapable of that? i'm shocked if it is. anyone want to buy an ibook?
any advice much appreciated as i'm going out of my mind.
    happy christmas,
    adam gilhespy

    Adam:
You haven't given a lot of info, but here are a couple of ideas:
    1) What sample rate are you using? You should be at 44.1 or 48 kHz. Don't even think of anything higher.
    2) Are you recording in a new arrange window? Or are you overdubbing to existing tracks? If so, freeze all your existing tracks.
    3) Are you attempting to use any plugins while you're recording? If you are, turn them off for now.
    4) How much RAM do you have installed? You need at least 768 MB; more preferably.
    5) You're going to need an external drive eventually, but to record one track should be easily done.

  • Trying to record multiple tracks (24) in Garageband with 3 presonus firestudio devices daisy-chained together.

Please help !! I can record multiple tracks (8) on a single presonus firestudio, but now I'm trying to expand the number of tracks to 24 by daisy-chaining three firestudio devices.
The three units will sync up properly, and Garageband detects all of the input channels, but the recording doesn't pick up the input signals for the 2nd or 3rd device. It only picks up the signals from the first device. I read the manual and daisy-chained the devices by serial number (lowest to highest).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

you'll need to create an aggregate device:
