Recording conversatins through iChat

I have a quick question for podcast recording. I have read that I can record conversations with someone through iChat into Garageband for a podcast. Does the person on the other end of the conversation have to be using iChat for this to work, or can they be using any chat client/platform/OS?

They will need to be using iChat. I personally prefer Audio Hijack Pro. You can get good quality with it recording any audio chat platform from iChat to Skype. Another iChat recorder is Conference Recorder.

  • Sending a movie with imovie '08 through ichat

Hello everyone! I'm a Mac newbie, and I also posted this in the iMovie discussion as I wasn't sure what would be best.
I just purchased my first Apple (the 13" White MacBook) about 3 weeks ago. I was doing an iChat video session with a friend of mine yesterday, he was able to send a video he previously recorded through iMovie directly into iChat by just dropping and dragging. (I believe his Mac is about a year old). When he tried to guide me through the, it wouldn't allow me, it would just I guess "bounce back" into the iMovie window, and never make it into the iChat window (this after I closed our video chat too).
After that point I tried to send it as a file through iChat, and that STILL didn't work, apparently he received a message saying that I needed to start something, but I never saw a notice, and the transfer box was saying it was waiting on him to accept it, however, he told me he did.
Is there an easy, and simple way to send a movie recorded in iMovie '08 into iChat? Because I tried to send the file via gmail & yahoo and it was rejected (movie was about 3 minutes, but compressed into a small size).
    Thanks for all your help.

I am seeing the exact problem. Very annoying as 2x exporting
is time consuming. Apple is refusing to comment saying it is an
adobe issue. Any one find a workaround?

  • IMovie Newbie (send video through iChat)

Hello everyone! I'm a Mac newbie, and I apologize if this should be in the iChat discussions. I just purchased my first Apple (the 13" White MacBook) about 3 weeks ago. Thanks for all your help, again, I apologize if this is winded, as well as in the wrong discussion forum.

The Mac User on the other end of the chat session is not receiving anything regarding me sending it when I try the iChat Theatre.
There seems to be some confusion here. Are you trying to "send a file using iChat" or "display/share a file via iChat Theater?" If the former, then review the tutorial link above provided by Appleman. If you are trying to do the latter, use the "Help" to get specific instructions for hosting an iChat Theater presentation. As to the recipient not getting appropriate announcements, what OS is that person using?

  • Users randomly losing capabilities through ichat server

Hi, i have iChat server set up, there are 10 users, capabilities for certain users disappear and i cant find out a reason why, when the capabilities go they lose the ability to send a file through iChat, i can move the user out of the group that they are in on the server then back in again, and this will temporarily solve the problem but only sometimes, i can also remove the buddy from the list and then re add and re authorise and this seems to solve the problem temporarily but only sometimes, other times a reboot fixes it, but other times not, it seems to be random who gets the problem, im wondering if anyone else experiences this, ive gone as far as deleting all users and resetting the ichat server up from scratch, but to no avail, can anyone help me?
    Thanks
    Rob

    Now this is very interesting!
I've the same problems, i posted a while ago in the iChat forum. Due to some circumstances and priorities I haven't posted in the server discussions.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2580592&tstart=0
Now (the reason for searching discussions right now) there is a very odd thing, which I think is related to this problem.
I've stopped the iChat server, but users are still able to connect, off course not able to chat with each other. Server Admin logs when users are connecting, and tell me that there are users connected. iChat however is stopped.
    Here's my serveradmin output:
    jabber:state = "STOPPED"
    jabber:readWriteSettingsVersion = 1
    jabber:logPaths:PROXY_LOG = "/private/var/jabberd/log/proxy65.log"
    jabber:logPaths:MUCSTDLOG = "/var/jabberd/log/mu-conference.log"
    jabber:logPaths:JABBER_LOG = "/var/log/system.log"
    jabber:proxyState = "RUNNING"
    jabber:currentConnections = "35"
    jabber:currentConnectionsPort1 = "32"
    jabber:currentConnectionsPort2 = "3"
    jabber:pluginVersion = "100.1"
    jabber:serviceMode = "NOTIFICATION"
    jabber:domainName = "ichat.mydomain.nl"
    jabber:mucState = "RUNNING"
    jabber:servicePortsAreRestricted = "NO"
    jabber:servicePortsRestrictionInfo = emptyarray
    jabber:hosts:arrayindex:0 = "ichat.mydomain.nl"
    jabber:setStateVersion = 1
    jabber:startedTime = "2011-02-24 10:30:30 +0100"
    jabber:jabberdState = "RUNNING"
A while ago I also noticed this:
We have a receptionist who handles incoming calls, she uses the Jabber list to see if persons are available. She told me that it was inaccurate. Persons who have set there status to Meeting… while here list told Available.
As far as I can see, my configuration looks similar to yours (execpt I have no local firewall running)

  • I can't send photos through iChat/Messages?

Hello! I have a MacBook Pro and I can't seem to send photos through iChat to my friends. I am able to receive photos, though. I can drag a photo into the message box and I can click send and it looks as if I've successfully sent the photo. However, after a few seconds, the message bubble becomes blank and a picture is no longer there and my friend tells me she can't see anything. I've updated to Mountain Lion but I still can't send photos through Messages. Does anyone have any idea why? Thank you in advance!

    Hi,
The Messages app in Mountain Lion is a fusion of iChat (which uses AIM Screen Names and Jabber IDs to create Buddy Lists) and iMessages from the iOS side of things.
iMessages can be sent if you register your Apple ID for iMessages when opening Messages for the first time.
The same Apple ID is then used on your iOS devices (iPads, iPhones and some iPod Touch devices) so that you can sync the conversations you are having.
iChat is /was an app in Lion and earlier Mac OS version that could join the AIM or Jabber Service (And the Yahoo service in iChat 6 in Lion).
In those versions Buddy List were displayed by default.
In Messages the default is to display any Non iMessage Accounts (Seen in Messages Menu > Preferences > Accounts.) as one list, which can be brought to the front by the Keystrokes CMD + 1 keys together (See Window Menu)
You can separate the Buddy lists by going to Message Menu > Preferences > General section and unticking the items that say about gathering accounts into one list.
    Uploaded with Skitch!
This changes the Window Menu to then list all the Buddy lists, each with their own CMD + #
    Uploaded with Skitch!
As you can see I have an Account callled Google talk (And another that logs in to Jabber.me)
The Names shown here are what you enter in to the Description field in Messages menu > Preferences > Accounts.
If you enter nothing and have one account that logs in to AIM and another that logs in to Google the Account Buddy List window will get titled "AIM Buddy List" and Jabber Buddy List as Google run a Jabber server.
If you have more, like I do, of both sorts then they take on the Screen Name or ID of the account if you don't fill in the Description field.
(The Partially Blocked out one is doing this as it is an AIM registered Name)
If your Apple ID happens to be your Google Mail ID and you have set it up for iMessages it also needs setting up for the "iChat" Google Talk side  (it may be already there if updating from Lion)
However you cannot send iMessages to your Google Buddies or vice versa - sending IMs from your Google Buddy list to Contact's Apple IDs
So make sure the Messages window is saying you are using iMessages if talking to Contacts or your IM account type (or name/ID) if using Buddy lists.
If your Apple ID can also be used with the AIM or Jabber services then double check what you have set up in Messages > Preferences > Accounts and which you ware using.

This might seam like a dumb questions. But I need to get the buddy picture photo I took through ichat, using my MBP internal camera. Where can I find the photo on my computer. Tried Recent Photos, iPhoto library, can't find it. Clues?

    (1) If you took it using the iChat > Video > Take Snapshot command, it is on your desktop, entitled "Video Snapshot." If you took more than one snapshot, the names will be "Video Snapshot-x" where x is a number.
    (2) If you took it with the iChat > Change My Picture... command, it is in your
User/Library/Images/iChat Recent Pictures folder unless you have changed the folder location in the choices bar at the top of the "Buddy Picture" dialog window that for this command.
If you changed the location, it will be wherever you saved it. If you do not remember, you can try looking for the file name "Recent " with Spotlight. If Spotlight can find images that start with "Recent ", you can manually view the ones you made on a particular date to see if you recognize the one you want.

  • My question is that if I am using Mac and another friend of mine is using Ipad mini and her skpe isnt working and we want to share screens how can we do it through Ichat? Since on facetime screens cant be shared!

My question is that if I am using Mac and another friend of mine is using Ipad mini and her skpe isnt working and we want to share screens how can we do it through Ichat? Since on facetime screens cant be shared!

    Hi,
    You can't.
Messages - the replacement for iChat in Mountain Lion and beyond will  do Screen Sharing  but only to the accounts it did in iChat 5 and 6  (actually it includes iChat 4 as well)
That is to say in earlier version of iChat you could login to AIM and Jabber servers as well as enabling the Bonjour option to chat on your LAN.
All these will do Video and Audio only chats which in turn means they will Screen Share.
At iChat 6 an Yahoo option was added but it can only Text chat (it can't even send Files or Pics)
This means only the Internet able accounts that login in to AIM or to a Jabber server  can Video and therefore Screen Share.
The iMessages account will Invoke FaceTime if you use the Video icon during text chat.  (I.e. it is not Video inside the app like the AIM or Jabber accounts can do)
    NOTE.
AIM includes Apple Issued Apple ID as Valid AIM Screen Names.
Google Mail ID s can be used and Google Talk IDs with Messages as they run a Jabber server.
Facebook allow you to create a Chat ID (Facebook Chat ID) which is also a Jabber server.

  • Record audio through Mic on web site and send it to other place

    Hi There,
I 'd like to record audio through mic using Flash on a web
site and send the audio clip to other people or to the server. Is
    it possible without FMS?
    Thanks!
    Nick

No, without FMS you can't save the audio from a mic.

  • Recording Audio through/with Flash

    Hello,
We are working with a client who has a project that they need
a customer to record audio from their computer. We want to do the
designs in Flash. Does anybody have an idea or suggestion on how to
record audio through flash (swf) or what software would be useful
    in conjunction with?
    Thanks!

You can capture audio from a microphone quite easily in
    Flash:
    var mic:Microphone = Microphone.getMicrophone();
    mic.setLoopBack(); //Routes audio to speakers
However saving audio has always been a problem in Flash. It
is a tricky work-around process. You can only send to a server
running Flash Media Server and then convert the audio using a tool
like the one used for this project:
    http://blog.andrewpaulsimmons.com/2007/05/recording-audio-with-flash-player-to.html#links
Recorded audio in Flash uses the NellyMoser codec, which is a
low quality mono only audio codec designed for voice only. I found
a decoder here as well as the one listed at the link above:
    http://code.google.com/p/nelly2pcm/downloads/list
Hopefully Flash will improve in this field in the
    future.

  • Recording video/audio files using Flash Meida Server through rmtp, and allow users to access the recorded files through http.

As titled, what is the way to record video/audio files using Flash Meida Server through rmtp, and allow users to access the recorded files through http?
What I am trying to do, is to record a user's microphone's input and save it to the server. Afterwards, I would like other users to be able to access the recorded files and mainuplating the audio data, by computeSpectrum(), to do some visualization of the audio. As I know computeSpectrum() cannot work on streaming files, so I think I need to access the recorded files using http instead of rmtp. Is that true?
How can I redirect the http request to the files I was recorded into my applications/appName folder? Or I need to somehow moved the recorded files to the /webroot folder?
    Thanks!

I probably have asked a stupid question.
My recorded streams are still saved in the applications/appName/streams folder.
And I redirect the www.mydomain.com/streams to point to the applications/appName/streams folder.
And the rmtp recorded streams are abled to connect through http now.

  • Possible to edit recording created through LSMW?

I created a Batch Input Recording through LSMW. In the recording, a node has got created which doesn't have an OKCode. As a result, when I process the recording, the transaction halts in between due to lack of OKCode (I have pasted a part of the recording at the bottom. The node in Bold Italic is the problem.)
In order to overcome this issue, I have to edit the recording & remove the node completely. OR I could create an OKCode entry (for an ENTER press) in the node. But I am not able to edit the recording. I am only able to add & delete Screen fields. OKCode not being a Screen field is not available for addition.
Does LSMW not give the functionality to edit recordings at all? If it so, how can I use an edited recording created through SHDB in LSMW?
<u>A partial view of the recording follows:</u>
    >>>SAPLOIRB_APP03 321
    BDC_CURSOR                     ROIRB0320-VALID_FROM
        BDC_OKCODE                     =ENTE
        ROIRB0320-STATUS
        ROIRB0320-VALID_FROM
    <i><b>>>>SAPMOIFA 0165
    BDC_SUBSCR                     SAPMOIFA
        BDC_SUBSCR                     SAPMOIFA
        BDC_SUBSCR                     SAPMOIFA
        BDC_SUBSCR                     SAPMOIFA
        BDC_SUBSCR                     SAPMOIFA
        BDC_SUBSCR                     SAPMOIFA
        BDC_SUBSCR                     SAPMOIFA</b></i>
    >>>SAPMOIFA 0165
    BDC_OKCODE                     =SAVE
        BDC_SUBSCR                     SAPMOIFA
        BDC_CURSOR                     OIFSPBL-PBLNR

I went ahead & completed remaining all the LSMW steps. Then I processed the created session in foreground & tracked the OKCode on each screen.
It ran perfectly upto the screen prior to the problematic node. When it got to processing the problematic node, the OKCode command dialog box remained empty. This is perfectly understandable since in the recording itself there is no line item for OKCode. Unfortunately, it did not skip processing and move onto the next node which had a 'SAVE' OKCode.
This is where the transaction halted & manual intervention was required.
Coming back to square one, I have to somehow get rid of the node or find a way to insert a OKCode line item into the recording.
Did SAP tell you that it not possible to edit an LSMW recording? It is not possible to use an SHDB recording in LSMW either?

  • RECORDING AUDIO through ROLAND FANTOM G8 on LOGIC PRO

Guys, I have been struggling for days, with such a ridiculously simple issue. I need to be able to record audio through my mic which is connected through my Roland Fantom G8 on one audio track in Logic, while simultaneously hearing the beat on another audio track through my computer's built-in output. Garageband does this automatically.
When I set the core audio input to the Roland Fantom, I can record just fine, but then I cannot hear the beat play through the computer's output. If I set the core audio input to built-in input, then I can hear the beat through the computer, but Logic does not detect my mic.
The program detects the Roland without me setting the core audio input to Roland Fantom, as I can record sounds on a midi track while simultaneously hearing the beat on an audio track. So why can I not record my vocals through the Roland on one audio track and simultaneously hear the beat on another audio track through the computer's output?
Somebody please let me know ASAP because I need to get this album of mine under way. It would be GREATLY appreciated.

It's quite common - people who are used to using entry-level tools don't necessarily realise that the software is designed to do a certain amount of hand-holding.
When moving to a professional program, people somehow think that the new program will do everything the entry-level one did and more, but everything will be even easier.
However, professional software is designed specifically to not do any hand-holding. It's assumed that people using professional software have a certain amount of skills. The software is designed to help them realise what they want, rather than constrain them in "easy-mode".
In short, it doesn't hold your hand, it doesn't tell you when to go to bed, and it won't look all dissapproving when you turn up the following morning with a hangover and half your clothes missing.
The trouble with having the pro stuff so accessible is a lot of people who are really at the level of using entry-level programs are using the pro stuff simply because they can - and then they get frustrated because these programs require some knowledge to use effectively.
Sit someone in front of Maya or After Effects (as an example) who has very little knowledge or experience, and they won't get far. And the software is not going to try to educate them.
And we see this with Logic Pro 8 like never before, as a lot of new users have come on board, whether because the price point or value is so attractive, or because LP8 is accessible in a way LP7 and before wasn't.
(Note, this is a general thing, not necessarily applied to the OP here...)

  • Recording Microphone through headphone jack?

    Simple question:
Can I record audio through the headphone jack on my laptop with this microphone?:
    http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-20-Unidirectional-Microphone/dp/B00005T39P/ ref=dpreturn2?ie=UTF8&n=172282&s=electronics
If not, how do you connect this microphone to your computer to record?
    Thanks!

Certainly not through the headphone port!
There's a separate audio line-in, but it's 'true' line-in, meaning it expects line-level (i.e. pre-amplified) input. So, you'd need a powered mic, or instead you might consider a USB mic.
