Recording dance music on Ipad

HI there
I going to start recording my dance music including vocals
Does the ipad have good hardware and a user experience for this? (I know Gorillaz recorded an album on there)
How can I find out more about this?
Thanks
Andy

Hi AndyddUK,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  Garageband for iOS is the software we developed for making music on the iPad.  Here is some information about it:

I was hopeful I could use home sharing to sync my iTunes libraries,
Unfortunately, you can only stream content to your iOS devices via home sharing (not sync it).
I'd have a check through the following user tip instead:

  • Can I record audio on an iPad direct from a mac via line out

I use the noteability app alot, recording audio at a live lecture works great.  However, due to a bug you can not add an audio file directly into your notes (at the moment), you must record them.
I have a bunch of podcasts that I would like to add to my notes.  I know I could play them from my mac and record audio through the ipads mic but what I hoped  to do was connect a male to male cable between the line out of my mac into my ipad, playing the audio without interferance.  This didn't work
Does anyone know if there is a similar way to do this or something I could have done wrong.
    Thanks

yeah - you can do it, but you need an adapter.  The earphone jack on a pad is a special jack with stereo headphone uot put and a seperate mic in channel.  The adapters i have seen are usually built to accomodate a standard 1/4 in - into the pad, like the one in the attached link.  In theory, you could use the lineout on the mac, to a 1/4 in male - then into this adapter to get it back into the pad.   Somebody probably makes the cable you need with the 1/4 shift, but I couldn't find one.
Options - in you notes, insted of copying the file, put a link to the podcast

  • What is the best USB 3.0 (small) ext HDD for recording my music on

    Hello everybody!
    i start with saying...........
    A Happy Newyear!!!!!
I wish you all the very best and love.
    Now for my question.
I would like to know what is the best portable usb 3.0 external HDD for recording my music on.
Because since today i am a very happy new owner of the new Retina Macbook Pro 2.3 GHz, with 8 GB of Ram and 256 GB of Flash.
.... and yes it has the Samsung Retina Display
Since 8 years i use Logic Pro and because the flash is only 256 Gb i want to record on a external drive
and not on the internal storage (and especially now with usb 3.0).
But i would like to know what is the best portible external HDD for this function.
500 GB is enough for me because i have 2x a 2 TB for my Mac Pro and Macbook pro where i make back ups from all my music (2 back ups just to be safe).
    Some Examples i saw:
    - WD My passport USB 3.0 - 500 GB harde schijf
    - G-Technology 500GB G-DRIVE Slim USB 3.0-harde schijf
    - LaCie 500GB Rugged Triple USB 3.0 externe harde schijf
    - Freecom Mobile drive mg 500 GB harde schijf
    - Western Digital My Passport Essential SE USB 3.0 500 GB harde schijf
I would really like some good advise in this.
Hope you guys can help me out with this.

I cannot speak specifically about any of those Ext HDs because i don't own any of them..
    But...
Make sure the external drive is 7200rpm.... and not 5400rpm or a 'green' drive with something called "varipower' or a similar name...

As the King says, if your friends wifi router was relatively new, it likely has not been picked up by Apple's location based information database system and thus there is no location information associated with it.  So your iPad had no way of getting its location.
The wifi location databases are traditionally updated by wardriving - literally companies employ people to drive around sniffing out active wifi signals and associating an approximate location to it.  Some companies also have web sites to submit that information if owners wish to (Apple does not seem to have one though), and the various companies with wifi location databases buy and sell their information.  Bottom line is though, it can take weeks, months or sometimes even longer for a residential router to get picked up - depends on where you live (more rural, likely the longer time it takes).
When I moved from VA to NC it took up to 6 months for mine to reflect my new location (I checked it once the week I moved in, and then periodically thereafter, and it finally was getting it right after about 6 months) and I live in a pretty densley populated area (triangle NC).

    Hello Mariola,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iTunes purchases.  I recommend downloading your purchases directly to your computer using the Purchases page in the iTunes Store:
Download previous iTunes Store purchases to an authorized computer
Click iTunes Store near the top of the iTunes window.
Click the Purchased link at the right of the iTunes Store homepage (below Quick Links).
In the page that appears, select a category.
iTunes shows you which of your purchases are available for download. You can view all of your past purchases, or just the ones not currently in your iTunes library. Items already in your library aren’t available for download. If you select Music, you can view your purchases by song, artist, or album. If you’re viewing by album, click an album to see which songs on it are available for downloading.
To download all available items, click Download All.

    Hi, Abril_Perez17.
This may be related to a new feature embedded in iOS7 that shows all purchased music by default.  Go to Settings > Music, then turn off Show All Music.  See if the issue ceases once the feature has been disabled.  This information is located on page 63 of the user guide below.

  • Dance music 'Whoosh' effect

I have been searching online for samples of that 'white noise sweeping whoosh' effect that you hear on alot of dance music, but am having a great deal of trouble finding anything decent.
It occurred to me at this point that maybe I could make one myself using the Logic synths?
Basically, I'm after a bit of advice how how to go about it, which is the best plugin to use, and do you guys know of any tutorials on this subject? I've scoured the web, but without much luck.

    Hmmm, iSchwartz (and the others),
actually, I did not exactly mean phase cancellation but I was not too clear or detailed in my post, sorry. But in my opinion that definitely applies, or you have to take into consideration if you're using a width processor trying to liven up a single track (be it an effect sound or a synth, vocal etc). Of course it'd be somewhat (I guess an impossible) coincidence if you'd get two different white noise recordings to cancel each other out as they're random.
I too pan my hats and shakers for eg. a little apart from each other, and frequency-overlapping synths might find more space, too, when separating them in the stereo field a little.
What I kinda mixed up in my thoughts and the post was the phase cancellation and mono-compatibility issue and just losing the left-right effect of my tracks in a mono system. Fluffy and lush pads or big leads often get their lushness or big sound from the reverb and delays (and eq, comp,...) and when monoed the track often becomes bland since all the "3d" space is now tucked in the center. Now that I think of it maybe I have had a reverb plug back in the day that does cheap tricks to widen stuff because I've even heard the reverb almost vanish when monoed. Anyway, like I said, for (mono) club play it doesn't really make too much sence to be anal about making that whoosh sweep for eg. left>right because it won't be heard that way. I know you guys weren't really talking about that, I just brought it up because I've experienced that myself.
Like the engineers say, it can be argued that the benefit of the mono club system might be greater than my grief of losing the full stereo field as so few people in a club would hear that anyway, and the loudness and bass that's felt and not only heard also makes you hear not so accurately (+ vodka or the extra chemicals some clubbers enjoy...). I don't know, but my (maybe a stupid) analogy is that I make my stuff stereo, it'd be nice if it was replayed and heard in stereo (in the home cd players and radios as well as clubs). When I've had the choice, I've at least monitored stuff in stereo when performing so I can fool myself to forget that the room hears mono...
