Recording Desktop Actions in Flash

Hi all
I am learning ActionScript 2.0 for about 6 months and I have
created a flash based website. I want to create FLV tutorials for a
Music Application. Can I record in Flash what is going on while I
work on my desktop or will I need Director or another program to
achieve this task.

  • What software is available for Mac to record desktop actions

I am looking for an application that will record my actions from my desktop.

I've used the freeware version of Jing.  Very simple to use, great results and excellent free image and video sharing service.
Depending on what your needs are, this could also work for you.

The latest version requires Leopard, but I use version 2.3.2550 under Tiger on my MDD Dual 1,25 GHz G4.

We have developed a desktop application using Flash software and published the same for MAC environment. When we double click on the index.app file, the application is working perfectly in Mac 10.6.7 at our office. But if the same index.app file is double clicked in Mac 10.6.7 at out clients location, its not opening. For your information the client is able to open this same application by double clicking on index.swf file. The main problem is that client is not able to open the application using index.app file at their office whereas we are able to do so at our office. Can anyone give some suggestions to sort this problem?

The most common reason is different versions of Flash, or different versions of web browsers used.  Some users may elect to not have Flash installed at all because of the processor overhead of Flash.  If you are going to make an application for a client, check what operating system and browser versions they are using first.  Then determine if a stand alone application is required, or if they have the necessary plugins to run specific browser enhanced code.
P.S. MAC is an acronym for Media Access Control.  Mac is the shorthand for Macintosh, the operating system and computers made by Apple Inc.

The second screenshot shows testing the newly recorded action with the script events manager.

Another way of testing a recorded action or testing any action

    Please help!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if Safari crashed, you would enter "Safari" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • How to I record an Action to Save As that doesn't include a file name??

    Hi -
I have an Action that will crop and scale a PDF file then Save As a JPG to a destination folder.  The problem is that when I recorded the Action I did so with a file named ABC.PDF and Saved it as ABC.JPG - and now every file saved with this
    Action is named ABC.JPG
This makes it impossible to use with a bunch of different files.  One file gets overwritten multiple times with the same name.  The  file name ABC.JPG is "burned" into the Action.
SO - how do I record an Action to Save As without including a file name??
TIA your help on this crazy problem -
    Josh
    CS5 on Windows7

PeterK - thanks for the reply.  I tried that already - initially actually.
I even tried blanking out the field so I would save a file with NO name.  PSD added it's own .jpg and saved it like that.  Every file after that over wrote that one too so after using the Action on 6 files I still only had one ".jpg" in the folder.
I was hoping that there was a setting or preference somewhere.  SInce this is Windows might it be OS related?

  • Video Pixelation occurs while recording the video using flash player

    Hello,
I am recording the video using flash player 9 ( using the
flash media server 2.0 on the back end). Everything used to work
fine in the past. The quality of the flv video was good. Now
suddently, I have started seeing the pixelation in the recorded
video (very poor video quality). Nothing has been changed in the
code. However on the server side, I am not very sure if there is
any windows update has taken place and have caused the problem with
    the codec on server.
However my understanding is that when we record the video
then flash player use its own codec not the flash media server.
Can any one help me on how I can get rid of pixelation
    issues?
    Thanks for your help.
    Best Regards
    Pradeep

    Hello Melissa,
I might not be understanding the question right, but if you
    are using Flash
Player 6, and the Flash Player 6 video player component, you
    can resize the
video by resizing the component on the stage (just drag and
    make it larger).
Let me know if that works for you.

  • Bug report: Photoshop can't record an action where you insert the menu item "Tile all horizontally".

I am running CS6 beta on Mac OS 10.7.3
Photoshop can't record an action where you insert the menu item "Tile all horizontally".
Expected behavior: add the tile all horizontally action to your actions.
    Behavior: nothing happens.
This does work for Tile all vertically.

Have I mentioned how much i love my playbook now Great job on os 2.0

  • Vibrance level not recording in action in CS5

I'm trying to record an action in which I set the vibrance level.  After creating a new action I add a vibrance adjustment layer and set the slider to "70".  I stop the action and when I run it I get the layer added, but the vibrance level is set to "0".

Warning about creating actions that add adjustment layer.  Unless your carefull the way the ply bat will be a crap shoot. Adobe intriduced bufs in Photoshop CS4 adding bad option to the Added Adjustment Panel. In its Fly-out menu Adobe added to option that may brake the way actions andscripts that add adjustment  layers work.
That said the newer versions of Photoshop record addige adjustment layers in Two steps. Where old versions added a single step the add and set the adjustment setting.  The neer version of Photoshop recirds two steps instead One add the adjustment layer abt the second step adjust the adjustment layers settings.  The recording of the second step is also delayed till you start our your next operation. It sounds like you only had the first step and are missing the second step the set the vibrance to some value.
My Advice is to leave these option set to the default setting and forget they exist.  Photoshop will work like it always has worked before CS4.

  • BDC can't record scrolling action

    Hi Experts,
I'm facing a problem in recording scrolling action in screen when doing BDC recording.
I have to enhance the standard SAP program in user exit (IDOC_INPUT_ORDERS) which is using BDC way in creating Sales Order when receive Inbound IDOC.
The new requirement is to fill in serial number in each item, the total of serial number needed depends on the quantity ordered for that item.
(in VA01, click on particular item, go "Extra" -> "Technical objects" and enter the serial number. Item with quantity 60 will have 60 serial numbers to enter.)
The problem is, when i try to enhance the BDC formed in IDOC_INPUT_ORDERS, the recording  failed to record the scrolling down action when trying to fill in all serial number. (The screen only able to fill in max 19 serial numbers and requires scrolling after filling in 19 serial numbers)
Can someone please help and give me an idea on how to solve this problem?
    Thanks.
    Best Regards,
    Jason

    Dear Jason,
I have the same requirements as you have to populate serial numbers for a sales order creation with IDOC_INPUT_ORDERS. Unfortunately, I was not able to make it work. Could you please be able to share your code with me so I understand where is my mistake.
    Many thanks in advance.

  • Join Path not recording in action

I'm trying to build an action in Illustrator CC (17.1) to post-process some vector files exported from a CAD package. The workflow is:
    Select All
    Object > Path > Join
    Effect > Path > Offset... (0.25mm)
However, when recording the action only Select All is captured. The Join and Offset operations are performed on the artwork, but do not appear in the action. I've tried searching around for more details on Join used in actions, or limitations of actions, and haven't found any issues here.  I  would expect all of the basic object manipulations in the Object and Effects menus to be available for action recording, but it seems that may not be the case? Can anyone shed light on what's going on here?

In the Actions panel menu, take a look at the Insert Menu Item command.

  • How to record user action?

    Dear All,
I am trying to build a performance testing tool like jmeter. I want to know how jmeter or any HTTP performance tool records user action. I don't know how to write the action recording code. If anybody knows please help me out.
The following are the logic behind the jmeter action recording
    1. Turn on the proxy (HTTP in this case). Jmeter starts listening to HTTP traffic to/from the specified URL. It basically acts like a sniffer for the traffic between your client (the browser) and the server IP address.
    2. User starts performing his business process (the activities/requests to the server).
    3. When a request is sniffed/captured by the tool, it immediately creates a code to send the same request (basically an HTTP GET/POST method created).
    4. At the same time it monitors the response from the server and creates a checking code for verifying that the response obtained is correct (This is used further by the tool when we run the test). The response includes the complete HTML data including the Header and Body sections.
    5. All the requests and corresponding responses are captured by the tool and the corresponding code generated automatically.
    6. Once the recording ends, it puts together these snippets to create a complete code which could be further modified by the users so that they can run it in a multi-threaded environment.
    7. Users run the code specifying the number of users (basically threads) to perform a load test on the server. (The code generated would be thread-safe so that there are no overlaps)
    Thanks & regards

So why not using Jmeter and make you own modification when required
This is the great benefit of open source community

  • Recording desktop activity for use in FCP

    Greetings,
I need to record about a minute of desktop activity (browsing the internet on Safari) for a piece I am doing. I tried using one program that records desktop activity and converts it to a quicktime file but the finished product was no where near broadcast quality.
Any tips/suggestions would be much appreciated.

Though I've been a long-time user of SnapzPro I recently bought iShowU for recording desktop activity (as I couldn't get the results I needed from SnapzPro).
I've found iShowU excellent. Very, very fast and great quality in FCP. (Make sure, when capturing in iShowU that the capture size is consistent with your image size in FCP. Using just the Apple Intermediate Codec in iShowU did a great job for me.)
I recommend that you download and try the iShowU demo. You'll get a watermark until you buy but at least you'll know if it's for you.
BTW, I have nothing whatever to do with iShowU. In fact, I'm in Ireland and they're in New Zealand - on the other side of the planet!...

  • Record desktop with split audio tracks?

Is there some program that can record the desktop, as well as multiple audio channels? I need to keep the audio channels split, so I can later individually mute them and edit them when I need to.
If there is no such application available for Linux, I guess the only option would be to record the audio separately. Feel free to suggest audio recording applications able to record multiple channels too. I'd prefer to have just one application handling both video and audio though, as that prevents any potential syncing issues.
    Thanks in advance!

Presuming you have your audio devices configured as separate streams (be they jack, alsa or pulse) you can use ffmpeg via the command line to record desktop using the x11grab input source and then route as many audio tracks as you desire. Check the ffmpeg wiki for more. Googlefu applies. Let me know if you need help with more direct information.
