Recording digital audio from satellite recei

I'm considering the purchase of an Audigy 2 NX. I've found several postings on recording digitally, but I'm still not sure if satellite audio can be recorded. By connecting the optical audio toslink from my satellite receiver to the Audigy 2 NX, can the music stream be digitally captured via the USB connection to the computer without undergoing a conversion to analog? Does the Dish Network (or DirecTV) signal include copy protection bits that prevent this type of recording? Are there any other known issues? Thanks.

I record to a Audigy Platinum ZS through my satellite reciever (DTV-Hughes receiver)and have had no problems with DRM or encrypted bits. I do however have an annoying background hum present. I'm using RCA to a 3.5mm connector to the line-in port with a cable length of about 25'(?)but other than that, usually record at 48khz, 6bit with nice results (Nero Wave Edit)

  • Recording digital audio from dvr

Having trouble with recording audio from a dvr with a toslink cable connected to digital input on an imac. The resulting audio is high pitch static. Is Garageband capable of processing this audio, or does it have to be run through an amplifier first? Any help is appreciated

GarageBand cannot decode a Dolby Digital signal. You will need to decode it first with an external device (i.e. DVR > Amp > line output from amp > input on Mac)

  • Recording Digital Audio via Optical Line-in

    Hi,
I've been trying for the past hour to record Digital Audio from my XBOX 360 via an Optical Cable, into my MacPro's Optical line-in.
However all I get it huge amounts of noise / static / clicking all of the time.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,

I suspect the audio from your XBOX is encoded in surround sound. The Mac will not decode this type of audio directly from the optical in port. You may need to try and change your XBOX preferences to standard stereo.

  • Recording just audio from a video DVD

I thought I was ordering a CD with the music of a Broadway show. It turns out to have been a DVD of the entire production.
How do I get just the audio from the DVD into iTunes? And while I'm at it, once I get the audio, I'll need to strip the dialogue, and I haven't got any idea how to do that, either!
    Hope someone can help!

You can use Audio Hijack to record the audio from the Apple DVD player, which can be sent directly to iTunes as an ACC or AIFF file.

Stripping the "dialog" (assuming dialog is spoken commentary during the performance??) will be much more difficult. There are techniques to use a an audio editing program such as Audacity
    http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
to invert a one side of a stereo track to remove vocals for Karaoke, but the sound quality will be greatly diminished, the bass and even the vocals may be removed.
So if there is "dialog" on all of the songs it may be cheaper to buy the CD.
    Hope this helps.

  • Recording live audio from a Bus

    Hey,
So what I'd like to do is record audio from a bus directly into an audio channel
I have a test oscillator in the input slot of an instrument channel
As you can see, the output is routed into bus 1
In order to process any audio that I have coming into bus 1, from any number of channels, I have bus one routed into an Aux channel, from which I can run any effects.  Aux 1 (w/ Bus 1 in the input slot) is routed to Bus 2 (Bus 1 w/ effects from Aux 1)
As I said earlier, I'd like to record the audio from a bus, in this case Bus 2, into an audio channel so that I've got a continuous audio file.  I figured the best way to do so was to create a record-enabled audio channel, with Bus 2 as the input, which I've done here
As the screenshot shows, the audio from Bus 2 is making it into the channel.
When I hit the record button, with "Audio 3", as the selected track no audio is recorded.
In other words, I can hear the audio, and I can run it through any processes, but I'm unable to record in a way that allows me to capture the live processing of the sound.
I tried googling the matter and some suggested bouncing the track the project, which should leave me with an audio file, in the bin, of the audio with any automated effects processing.  Logic's stopped responding, with the mini "bouncing" window on the screen both times I've tried to do this- I'm not sure if this is a seperate problem, which I'll have to deal with at another time or if it's related to what I'm triyng to do.
In any event, has anyone come across a way to route the audio that would allow me to record this audio live, without resorting to recording only the effects parameters and bouncing?

    Thanks CCT,
Checked the prefs and switched them to built in and it cleared it right up, but it did bring up another issue, because I don't remember ever switching it into the "none" position.
I'm working with a USB audio interface that I remove when not in use; possible that logic automatically reverts to "none" rather than "built-in" when I remove it, and can I make it so reverts directly to "built-in" when the interface is removed?

  • TS3789 digital audio from apple tv not working

the digital audio output from my apple tv to my reciever was working initially. It is no longer working. Any ideas?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Have you tried adjusting the "Audio Out" and the "Dolby Digital" settings in settings > audio and video? It may be worth trying several combinations of these settings, although typically it is the "Dolby Digital" setting that causes most problems for users.
Also make sure that you have correctly mapped the input port on your sound system to the output, if you are unsure about how to do this, refer to the manual that came with your sound system.
Have you tried playing various content sources (i.e. podcasts, music, iTunes Store video, other video etc), do you have the same problem with all types of comments? You might also check that you can see a red light at the end of your optical audio cable. Is your optical audio cable plugged straight into your sound system, or does it go through a switch or other device?

  • Can you record the audio from a Video embedded in a pdf?

I can't seem to find anything on this, so I will ask. A client sent us a company produced interactive pdf and wants us to use the audio from a video clip that is in the pdf. We asked for the audio clip but they don't know who to get it from and just keep saying it is in the pdf. While others try to explain that a pdf and an mp3 are not the same thing. I get to look into a fall back position of trying to extract the audio (or video). There is no copyright issue here. Client peon just can't/won't get the proper file.
Maybe some one can help or point me to info that says it is not possible.
    Thanks.

WireTap Studio did the trick. I downloaded a free Trial version and bob's yer uncle.
    Thanks Michael

  • QuickTime: Screen Recording with audio from Flash video?

I saw a short flash video on a website that I wanted to save. SO I tried using the new QuickTime's Screen Recording feature, but no matter what options I use (Line input or Internal microphone), I get no audio.
Is this because Flash won't allow it, or am I doing something wrong?

just figured this out myself today. you're on right track.
open system pref and go to SOUND - got to OUTPUT tab and choose soundflower (2ch) as your OUTPUT
open safari and open a new window - drag SWF file into that. it should play in the browser window. hit pause on the video.
open quicktime. go to NEW SCREEN RECORDING, and use the arrow to the right to open options. Choose sound INPUT as soundflower (2ch). do not raise the volume in the record window - keep it at lowest possible else you'll get an echo.
    you are ready to roll.
so the browser will be outputting sound to soundflower, whilst the quicktime screenrecord gets input from soundflower. works like a charm. sounds great.
    good luck.

  • HT202638 Can I record the audio from a cassette player (portable) into my Mac Mini 2012?

I have several old cassette tapes that I'd like to digitize.  Can I do that by playing the tapes on a portable cassette player plugged into the audio in port on the back of my 2012 Mac Mini?  If I can, what plug do I need,  a simple stereo (ground, left, right) mini plug?  Do I need a pre-amp?  What software should I use?

Yes, the audio input on your MacMini is stereo and line level. (It is not a Mic input.) You need a stereo miniature phono plug (3.5 mm) on the end that goes into the MacMini. You do not need a pre-amp.
As far as software goes, you can try 3rd party software, like: http://audacity.sourceforge.net
    or
    Just use Quicktime:

  • Losing Digital Audio Ouput from Mini SPDIF

I have a 2010 Mac Mini connected to my HDTV/AV Receiver. I send digital audio to the av receiver with an optical cable. I have sleep disabled for OTA DVR. I have not tried to see if it will wake the mini to record.
I have it working, but often upon using the mini the next day, the device changes away from the Digital Out to the Soundflower 2 channel output device. This virtual output is used by one of the rogueamoeba applications to catch audio streams.
At night the AV receiver is turned off, so the mini may think the digital output has failed and does some sort of failover to the next device.
    Any ideas?
    Ebola.

  • Digital Audio out from Airport's USB?

I don't yet have the means to try it out, so does anyone know if this can be done? I'm getting active monitors with an onboard dac, but only usb input. The manufacturer says the speakers can get digital audio from a Mac mini usb, but is it a different story with the APX?

Why do you think it wouldn't, by the way? Printers
are "plug & play" so if the monitors are, why
wouldn't the system preferences offer the same
possibility as a usb port on the mac itself. They
have a Mac mini feeding digital audio via usb just
    fine... they say.

  • Recording audio from NI Maschine

I am fairly new to Logic Studio, but I have figured out some of the basics. I am having issues as I try to record the audio from my NI Maschine plugin. The issue is that I can plug in the Maschine as an insert in an audio instrument track, and I leave the input set to "input 1-2". I hit play in Logic, I can hear the Machine's audio just fine, and the Maschine is being properly controlled by Logic.
However, when I try to record the drum track, I notice that there is no apparent sound input from the Maschine. When I go to the mixer, it is showing no activity on the Maschine's channel, even though I can hear the Maschine playing just fine. When I hit record, the software is drawing a flat line in the blue recording box in the Maschine's track that indicates that it is recording an actual audio file.
So I opened a software instrument track, and I set the Maschine as an AU sound generator on the input for that channel. On that channel, I can see that logic is registering some audio input on that channel. If I click record, Logic appears to be trying to record the Maschine by midi output, and a green box appears in the Maschine's channel, where the software is attempting to record. Of course, the green box stays empty, because the maschine is not putting out any midi output... only the software generated audio output.
How can I get logic to record the audio from my Native Instruments Maschine Plug-in? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you want to record the audio output of an instrument, either use the many bounce features in Logic, or route that channel to a bus, set a new audio track to have that bus as it's input, and record.
