Recording dvr to dvd

is there a way to EASILY record from a directv dvr to a vcr/dvd recorder

Pretty much once it's in the DVR, it's stuck there.  If you use composite outputs, the DVR likely Macrovisions them.
If you use the component outputs, pretty much your only chance (and it's not going to be "easy") is the Hauppauge HD-PVR 1212.  It's the only component video recording solution I know of, and I haven't heard of anything like Macrovision for component outputs other than the ICT.  (Image Constraint Token, which tells Blu-Ray players to reduce output resolution to 540p if the Blu-Ray disc sets it.  DVRs may have similar features.)
Recording DirecTV in any format other than 480i NTSC is NOT easy.  The only options are the above listed Hauppauge 1212 (if your DTV receiver has component outputs) and specially modified receiver boxes (I'm not sure if there are any available these days as the manufacturers took measures to make said modifications more difficult.  Also the authors of some DVR packages have refused to support such modded boxes with their software due to DMCA fears.)

I have a football game recorded on a DVD+R disc that I was trying to view on my MacBook using DVD Player.  The video comes onto the screen, but immediately freezes, and then disappears.  An error message comes up saying that DVD player unexpectedly quit.  My MacBook operating system is Mac OS X, version 10.5.8.  DVD Player is App version 5.0.3, framework version 5.0.7.
However, the DVD+R works on both my Dad's and my brother's laptops.  My Dad's laptop is an iBook G4 with Mac OS X operating system, version 10.3.9.  The DVD Player is version 4.0.  My brother's laptop is a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X operating system, version 10.7.2.  The DVD Player is App version 5500.26.1 and framework version 5.5.0.  The DVD+R plays fine on their laptops, but will not play on mine.

    Lao Bo,
yes, you can locate and copy a file from your HD to a USB key using UNIX commands. If you know the exact name of the file which you’re trying to locate, try this:
    find / -iname filename -print
This command will search your entire internal disk for the particular filename. If you know that it’s within a particular user account, then you can save search time with this variation:
    find /Users/username -iname filename -print
Either variation of this command will print all files found which have the given filename. Presuming that you’re able to identify the correct file, you can copy it to a USB key using the command
    cp -p filename_returned_by_find /Volumes/USB_volume
If you’re not sure which volume name your USB key has, this command will show you what the possibilities are:
    ls /Volumes
Please let me know if you have any trouble with these commands.

  • Can't record sound from DVD player

I just built a new DAW with a Gigabyte MoBo that has the Realtek sound chip on board. I installed an M-Audio external Fast Track Pro connected to the computer with USB 2.0. With the two sound devices I can play Band in a Box (my main band) through the Realtek and out put to my mixer. I then use my Line 6 Pod XT as a preamp to my guitar that also goes to my Behringer mixer. I connect the main out (R&L) from the mixer to the 1 and 2 inputs on the M-audio. I set Audio Hardware setup in AA3 to use the M Audio device for input and am able to record mixer output to tracks in AA3. I tried several configs and this is the only one that I found that works. All is good so far.
I installed a SATA DVD player (Lite on 24x) that works fine, but it plays through the M-Audio via USB, bypassing the Realtek chip, and the sound does not show up in AA3. I'm thinking I need to route the DVD output to the mixer to use the channel that is already set up. I've been trying to output the DVD player through the onboard Realtek but can't find any way to direct it to do so. I don't necessarily need it to play through the Realtek, but I want to be able to record from the DVD player.
So, does anyone have any idea how to direct the output of the DVD player to the sound card of choice? I'm stumped.

    Eric,
Thanks for your reply. Realtek audio works only in playback. There is a stereo mix in the mixer but the recording controls are not operable with no sliders in the mixer for any recording option. Slider controls appear to be grayed out. Can't figure out how to enable them. Downloaded newest drivers to no avail.
The M Audio control panel has no apparent option for recording stereo mix. Adobe ignores the sound from the DVD or CD and shows flatline.
I'm trying to record the sound from the DVD not rip the track.
When I go to Audio Driver Setup and select Audition 3.0 windows sound, there is no input device installed.
I'm thinking of going back to a decent internal Soundblaster card like I have on my 8 year old machine I am replacing.

  • A good program to record WAVE to dvd 1 & 2 laye

I have Audigy 4 pro , what I found is that I can't find a program that records wave to dvd & or 2 layer (it would be good if it burned cd too.) Can anyone recommend a program that will do this ( it would be nice if it did not break the bank if you know what I mean) nero or roxio will not do it . Thanks for any help with this simple problem. I have had no luck maybe one of you have the answer.

Eric...Thanks a million. They look promising.

  • HT2397 Is region code is recorded in the DVD drive? So, if I have two Apple USB SuperDrive, I can have two separate region code?

If the region code is recorded in the DVD drive, then I can purchase two Apple USB SuperDrive to play different region DVD ?

    To Apple Discussions!
It has been reported that VLC overrides the 5 region code option. You will need to read their documention on their website. Otherwise................
You can change the computers region "only 5 times". Then it's locked in the 5th version/region (until you erase your HD & start all over.).

  • I'm 64 and just found out that cd(s) are for recording music and dvds are 4 recording video

R cds for recording only music & dvds R for video and sound recording -is there more?

You can use CDs for other stuff, but the problem is that they only hold up to 700 MB (which comes out to about 15 average length songs) or so, whereas a DVD holds up to 4 GB. So you can put much more stuff on a DVD. And, using a CD for a video requires special burning or the DVD player won't recognize it as a video.

Premiere elements 7 can it edit t.v. shows recorded on a DVD?
WOw the guy at the store said this was easy to use but I'm not having much luck.  Wanted to edited a t.v. recorded on a dvd.  Transferred it to hard drive but the sound is way behind the video part.  Any ideas?  Thanks

If you have tried repeatably and unsuccessfully to rip the VOBs from the DVD-VIDEO on a DVD-R or +RW using the Premiere Elements 7 (Get Media/"DVD (Camcorder or PC DVD Drive), I would strongly suggest that you use MPEG Streamclip to convert to DV AVI. Then bring the DV AVI version into Premiere Elements 7 via Get Media/Files & Folders from the save hard drive location of the DV AVI version.
MPEG Streamclip should take care of quality as well as any audio out of sync issues.
    http://www.squared5.com/
You have two set up choices
Free...MPEG Streamclip + QuickTime Alternative (which contains the required MPEG-2 Playback Component), BUT you need to uninstall your regular QuickTime to get this to work.
    OR
Partially Free...MPEG Streamclip + your regular QuickTime + purchase from Apple of the MPEG-2 Playback Component
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
If you are going to being doing this type of a project on a regular basis, it might be worth the investment of going the partially free route.
Are you in a NTSC or PAL area? If you need a step by step for the MPEG Streamclip route, it will be supplied on request. I use it routinely. It is quick and effective.
    ATR
(Add on...when ripping VOBs from DVD-VIDEO have you ever tried: (1) placing your DVD in the DVD burner drive tray (2) Premiere Elements 7 Get Media/"DVD (Camcorder or PC DVD Drive) (3) using the Media Downloader to bring your VOBs to the Premiere Elements 7 project? Or, are you doing something else?)

  • Copying saved programs from HD-DVR to DVD or Hard Drive

I have saved many Beyond 2000 programs on my HD-DVR and am running out of room. I don't want to loose these programs...I use them in teaching my college classes.
Does any one know an easy to copy them to a DVD or to a hard drive? If so, please be as detailed as possible.
    Thanks,
    Joe

    You have 2 options:
    1)  Connect a DVD recorder to the Composite out of the DVR.  Find program, push play on it and immediately push record on the DVR.  Voila - recorded program
    2) Buy a Haupaugue HD-PVR (Model 1212).  It takes a COMPONENT! signal in and stores it as a 1080i or 720p HD signal with up to 5.1 surround sound!  Then they have a program to burn them to DVD IN HIGH DEF!  About $210 on Amazon

  • Dish DVR to DVD

I have a TV show saved on Dish DVR. How do I stream this to my iMac and then burn to a dvd?

The EyeTV Hybrid will do this for non-encrypted shows. You can check the ElGato EyeTV site for more information in which satellite boxes are supported. I don't know if any way to tell whether your particular show is encrypted without trying it.
The EyeTV always works when you record high def shows from an antenna.

  • DVR to DVD

I was wondering if anyone out there could point me in the right direction. I am looking for an appliance that I can plug into my DVR that allows me to move those programs I love onto my computer so I can can then put them on dvd. any advice would be good, someone at a Mac store mentioned something like iTV. but i cant find any appliance by that name.

You have a few potential options, but it may depend if the DVR outputs a copy protected (macrovision) signal. I assume yo umean standard definition material here.
Simplest I'd say would be to get a domestic DVD recorder capable of recording TV shows and connecting the DVR to the recorder input - no messing around with capturing and software authoring a DVD - this assumes no macrovision or other protection on the DVR OUTPUT.
Some kind of TV Tuner card with video capture inputs - you'd connect the DVR outputs to the capture card inputs, record the programme, then use software to burn a DVD of the captured video file. Are you using PC or Mac? I'd recommend Elgato devices if on a Mac.
If your DVR has a caoability to export the recording via a USB connction to a computer this would be the best quality wise, allow you to edit the file easily, then burn DVD with software (eg Toast on a Mac, or Nero/Roxio type software on a PC).

  • Recording Audio from DVD Video

    Hi,
I have a music concert video on DVD. I would like to record a song off the video so that I can learn to play the guitar part. Is there any software out there that will separate the audio from the video, or in other words, capture the audio and maybe convert it to mp3 format so that I can play it in iTunes without playing the video?
    Sincerely,
    Jim

Audio Hijack will let you capture audio from any running Mac Os X application.

  • Recording sound from DVD and CD play

I just bought a Zen V Plus. Could someone please tell me how to record sound from a DVD and/or CD to my MP3? Thank you!

    Try this:
    1. Connect the Line IN jack on your player to the line output of an external stereo source, such as a CD or MiniDisc player, using the supplied line-in cable.
    2. Press the Back/Options .You may need to do this more than once until the main menu appears.
    3. Select Extra button to start a line-in encoding.
    5. On your external stereo source, start playing the song you want to encode.
    6. While encoding, you can press and hold the Back/Options button and select one of the following items:
Pauses the encoding. You can also pause the encoding by pressing the Play/Pause button.
Stops and saves the encoding. You can also stop the encoding by pressing the Record
Split Ends and saves current recording session, and begins a new one.
    7. Press the Record button to end the line-in recording. The recorded track is named LINE followed by the date and time of the recordin YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS<. For example, if you record a track on March 5, 2004 at 2:57 pm, the track is named LINE
This information can also be found in your user's guide, it's a .chm file found in your installation cd.

  • Recording/Playback on DVD Player

I've already programmed my Verizon remote control to my DVD/VCR player.  Which remote control do I use to record and playback.   I'm recording from DVD to VCR (VHS Tape).  Also, do I have to change TV input for DVD player?  TV is currently Video 1.  I had DIRECTV and had to set to Video 3 for DVD Player.  Any assistance is appreciated.  Thanks in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I called Verizon FiOS Tech Support for help with my dilemma.  You have to change the video channel from Video 1 (TV) to Video 3 (Audio/Video) first.  First, press the DVD button at the top of the Verizon Remote Control;  second, press the TV button also at top;  third, press the A/V input button at the bottom of remote control until Video Channel is on Video 3.  Use your DVD/VCR Remote Control to control record, play, etc.  I hope this helps someone who may have the same problem I had.  Good luck!
