Recording format 1080i,interlace 50/25 or progressive 25 to import into FCE

I did search the forum before posting and i couldn't find a definite answer. i will be recording with a sony HVR-Z5E and after recoding will import in FCE with easy setup as follows format HD and rate 25.fps and using AIC 1080i50 which after editing will be exported to DVD single layer. What setting should i set on the Sony camera, i have the option of
Rec format 1080i
HDV Progressive - Rec type is either _interlace with scan type 50 or 25. or
HDV Progressive - Rec type progressive with scan type 25.
Please can you advice which setting should i configure on the Sony camera to make sure it works well in FCE. what are the main difference with recording in both formats.
Thanks
Dejoe

  • Format|settings for converting AVC MPEG-4 footage to import into project

    hi.
so the graphic designer for my favourite band dropped a couple of ~1⅓ gig MPEG-4 Movie (.m4v files consisting of footage taken during concerts in 2000|2001 on a handheld digital camcorder) into my lap the other day—& asked me if i could clean it up & split the each show’s file up into segments short enough to upload to YouTube...& while i feel fairly confident i can swing that order once i’ve got the footage in Final Cut, i’d greatly appreciate some advice regarding...making it to that premise. um. basically, if i try to import any of these .m4a files into Final Cut, i get this error:
    screenshot → [http://s3.amazonaws.com/ember/67PNmuKRePVvWJfFudHiSKj7kr9PfgzI_o.png]
so...after some preliminary investigation, i take it that i need to convert each of these files into a different format that Final Cut won’t turn its nose up at (—right?). which brings me to the crux of the matter:
§1 · *what format &|or settings* (—compatible with FCP7!—) *would result in the least loss of quality in the process of conversion,* if the original file is as delineated in this screenshot (→ [http://s3.amazonaws.com/ember/AAd0FBegXjXLXqtas8f9xIZa0v0TvrO3_l.png])?
§2 · *what program would you recommend i use to do this* (as yet hypothetical, albeit) *file conversion* (as prescribed in the answer to preceding enquiry)?

hey, great! thanks for the absurdly-prompt response. looks like that’ll do the trick.
though! a minor clarification, mostly just to satisfy my curiosity—
there are five Apple ProRes codecs:
    · Apple ProRes 4444
    · Apple ProRes 422 (HQ)
    · Apple ProRes 422
    · Apple ProRes 422 (LT)
    · Apple ProRes 422 (Proxy)
i’m guessing that—considering this footage is shot with a consumer-level cam, & is only 720x480 besides—the Apple ProRes 422 will be more than enough, right? that’s the one i should be using...riiight? (i mean...i figure anything more than that would be overkill,—or at least a moot point, if the original file doesn’t have anywhere near the level of detail|precision that the more heavy-duty iterations of ProRes affect—) ...is any of this speculation on target?
(i’m mostly concerned on account of the blurb about Chroma Sampling on page 7 of *Apple’s White Paper on the ProRes family* (→ [http://images.apple.com/finalcutstudio/docs/AppleProRes_White_Paper_July2009.pdf])—since i want to do some pretty hefty colour correction {probably the 3-way color corrector + desaturate highlights & lows filters...though that’s just a hunch} on all these files, & i reeeeeeally don’t want to lose any data that might improve the quality|accuracy|&c. of said corrections.)
—& if it’s at all significant, i may be trying to use the SmoothCam thing on these as well...though this footage is so shaky & erratic i wouldn’t be surprised if trying to make it slightly less emetic is a nonesuch of a lost cause.

  • If my camcorder records in 1080i, will i have any problems exporting my movie in imovie as 1080p? I read something about interlacing or deinterlacing?

If my camcorder records in 1080i, will i have any problems exporting my movie in imovie as 1080p? I read something about interlacing or deinterlacing?
I also have another question. I can't find an external blu-ray burner for a mac anywhere. How to I simply watch my exported 1080p movie edited in imovie on my hd tv? Apple tv only supports 720p correct? I read that the simplest way to watch it would be to save it on a flash drive then use a playstation 3 to watch the movie. Does anyone else have any other ideas? Thanks in advance

For 1080p via iMovie '11, just remember to optimize video for “Full – Original Size”.
The latest Apple TV supports HD.
I've seen low cost Blu-Ray DVD players for less than USD$100.00. I've also seen reasonably priced external BR for Mac...try OWC, as one example.

  • Video recording format question ...

I'm sanity checking how I record video for 2013.   I have no issues buying a new camera if recommended.   In this case I'm referring to recording "home movies" - a kid's birthday party, spring break trip, band concert, etc.  My intended target is to watch on a big screen TV via Blu-ray disc, streaming to a PS3, occassional playback on a computer.    My current consumer camcorder records in 1080/60p, 1080/60i, and 1080/24p.  I have seen other consumer camcorders offering 1080/30p.
I will also have some footage shot on a Droid phone in 1080/30p, although that amount of video will be minor in comparison; I just mention in case of minor influence on an opinion.  And by "streaming" on my PS3 I mean playback of a compatible format file via a DLNA server without transcoding on the fly.   Presently the PS3 can play all the formats as far as I know.  I've been shooting in 1080/60i.
What recording format would you recommend?

Even though it's not a supported bluray format, I'd record at 60p. Converting from 60p to 60i is a really easy process, each field has more data than it needs as a full frame is recorded for each one, so there is no quality lost, and having that extra data gives you a lot more options if you want to do slow mo shots.
The reason some cameras are recording at 30p even though it's not part of the bluray spec is that a 60i signal made from a 30p source is effectively 30p. It just plays each frame twice as fields, rather than two different fields as would happen with an interlaced clip.

  • Progressive footage importing into 10.1 as interlaced

I use clipwrap to convert my canon avchd footage to prores 422 progressive.  After converting I can see that my MOV files are progressive but when importing to final cut 10.1 they appear as interlaced. Any ideas why?

Ok, i did some more testing and looked at my old notes and this old article and was reminded that pf30 should import as progressive but FCPX does not handle it properly. Clipwrap corrects this issue.  I recently updated clipwrap that that may have fixed the problem.  For those who run into this issue with Canon avchd cameras, you should make sure that advanced options are on with clipwrap and that you set framewrate for 29.97 (not "source framerate"). Whether you transcode to prores rewrap using source format, it should work. Now FCPX is recognizing the pf30 video as progressive.

When I try to format an external usb drive  the progress bar gets to half way then freezes , or stops and  what ever time I allow it never gets any futher on , I have to go to the task bar and click quit  to get on  and the usb drive is not formatted  is there a fault with my disk utility program  I have updated the system
    to lion 10.7.2
    Can anybody advise please

Are these new external drives? How are the currently formatted? Have you tried doing this:
    Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Steps 4-6 are optional but should be used on a drive that has never been formatted before, if the format type is not Mac OS Extended, if the partition scheme has been changed, or if a different operating system (not OS X) has been installed on the drive.

  • LSMW load a file with different record format

anyone can help me out here?
I am trying to load a file which has exactly same record format except for the first line, and the first line is not neglectable. If i want to load this file to SAP within one LSMW load, is it feasible?
    thanks in advance.

LSMW records fields screen by screen.  When you have recorded your LSMW, the country code, company code and personnel area are in the first screen.  So, this data must be on every line of your data file.
Example of how your data file should be:
    Country     CoCd      Pers.Area         Field1DataLine1          Field2DataLine1         ...
    Country     CoCd      Pers.Area         Field1DataLine2          Field2DataLine2         ...
    Country     CoCd      Pers.Area         Field1DataLine3          Field2DataLine3         ...

  • SSIS: Merge Problem: the input is not sorted (for use in exporting a multi-record format file)

I am using the following useful article regarding exporting a multi-record file:
    http://vsteamsystemcentral.com/cs21/blogs/steve_fibich/archive/2007/09/25/multi-record-formated-flat-file-with-ssis.aspx
I have created the 2 datasources, ordering each on a field commmon to both.
I have created the two derived columns headers and am now moving on to the merge.
It is failing with the following error:
    "the input is not sorted"
And whilst I definitely have an order by on the query, when I look at the metadata between the datasource and the derived column, the Sort Key Position items displays "0" for all my fields, I was expecting the sort field to have a "1" in this column.  What am I missing?
Any help would be most appreciated!

The thing to remember here is that the SSIS designer gets its metadata from the RDBMS - metadata like the column names, data types and sizes that describe the data being returned.
But the RDBMS metadata does not include anything about the sort order of the data.
If you have an ORDER BY clause in your source query, you need to accurately and appropriately set the IsSorted and SortKeyPosition properties in the Advanced Editor for your data source component. It is your responsibility as the package developer to ensure that you're giving SSIS the correct information. If you're not, you'll get the same errors you've posted here.

  • WAV Multichannel recording format option for Live-2

I'm running Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 5.0.38 and Creative CD Burner Plugin 5.0.3 for my Li've! 24-bit external sound card, but I'm not getting the "WAV Multi-channel" option in the recording format menu. I loaded the software from the CD that came with the sound card, I reloaded it (three times!) from the creative.com downloads page, and nothing I've tried gets that "WAV, Multi-channel" option to pop up. I have recording source set on "What U Hear", CMSS is enabled, as per the tutorial at http://us.creative.com/support/kb/ar...p?l=3&sid=4428 but the only recording format options I've got are WMA Mono, WMA Stereo, WAV Mono and WAV Stereo. Has anyone encountered this problem and figured out a solution? I sure would appreciate any help. Thanks.
    Windows XP, Compaq nc6000 laptop?

2 tracks for guitar and one track for my vocals on the One.
You have two mono inputs, one each on two different interfaces. So no, on 3 tracks.
To use your 2 interfaces simultaneously with the configured I/O, you would need to create an Aggregate Device. To get a 2 Channel device. And have 2 USB connections available.
    http://www.apple.com/pro/techniques/aggregateaudio/
However, it's possible they may not work together or work well as an Aggregate Device.
    But easy enough to try.

  • What is the best video format for importing into After Effects CS5

Please look at this video, work in progress.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49_wbdKALQk
The opening, featuring a ribbon of videos, was created in After Effects, using Digieffects Freeform.
The  issue is the poor quality of the videos that are featured in the  opening -- compared to the higher quality of videos from the original Premiere  project., which you can see at the end of the clip.
To create the After Effects project, I exported a series of video clips from Premiere  to mp4.
Then I imported them into AfterEffects.
The bottom line, and the purpose of this question, is I am thinking that  MP4 was not the best choice for the Adobe Premiere export.
What  is the best format to export video from in Premiere Pro CS5 to import  into after effects, or to import into any other editing program,  incuding importing right back into Adobe Premiere, if that is eever  needed.
    AVI?
    MOV
    MP4
And any other settings that will result with the highest qualiity videos for importing.
    Thanks

To follow on with Wade's suggestion...
There are lots of ways to get movies and projects and other things back and forth between After Effects and Premiere Pro. This page outlines them:
"Working with Premiere Pro and After Effects"
If you must render and export a movie out of one application to bring it into another, there is a very basic piece of video workflow advice that you need to keep in mind (which applies to _all_ video software, not just After Effects and Premiere Pro):
If you're creating a movie to be used in the next step of a post-production pipeline, you _never_ want to use a format that does lossy compression. You either use no compression or (preferable) lossless compression. Examples of codecs that provide lossless compression are the Animation codec and PNG codec at the highest quality settings; these can be used in a QuickTime container, for example. Never compress a movie with lossy compression except at the very end of your pipeline, when you're creating the final movie for distribution.
MP4 (MPEG-4) is a lossy codec. The quality loss is acceptable for the last stage in the pipeline, but it's not acceptable for an intermediate file.
It seems that you would benefit from reading this and and working your way through this.

Okay, here's where I stand at this point regarding exporting and/or dynamic linking between AfterEffects and Premiere.
I'm in After Effects.  I create a composition I like.  So I first tried the old fashioned way. I exported it into a MOV file with the animation preset. Millions of colors.  Same frame rate as my Premiere project, which also uses MOV files with no problem.
Howver when I import the MOV file created by After effects, the NEW MOV file section of the premier project plays sluggish.  And it also causes the videos that follow to play sluggish.   And they are all MOV files at the same frame rate.
The same thing happens when I do a dynamic link between the two projects.  A sluggish response starting with the After Effects dynamic link and affecting the MOV video files that follow.
It's a very short After Effects composition.  About 3 second slong.
I have a very powerful computer built especially for CS5 and premiere --so that should not be an issue -- recently was in the top ten of the benchmark list.
Up to this point my video files have played perfectly layer upon layer with no problems.
Is there something I am not considering?
    Thanks.

  • Why wont the full length of the chapter in my dvd import into imove. Also I tried to cheat by recording it play off my screen and then import that but it wont record it. Any tips please?

Ive converted my video to imovie compatible format MPEG-4 so why won't the full length of it import into imovie? I cant record it using screen record either, the recording shows me clicking around and trying to record but after a split second of the desired footage shows it then cuts out to white and grey checkers. How can I convert it better or record it when playing off my screen please?

Yes you can. You'll need to set Device Control to "Non-Controllable Device" and use Capture Now. I'd recommend also recording tape in each camera for back-up. Live captures can go bad.

  • How do I import into Aperture in the yyyy/mm/dd format?

For years I have been importing photos from my Canon with EOS Utility in the yyyy/mm/dd format.  I have successlully imported this whole file structure into Aperture....using Import<files as folders.
But I cannot get Aperture to import into this file structure from my camera automatically. How do I set this up? It seems ridiculously complicated to me.
Surely I am not the first person in the world to want to organize photos by date shot?????

    Thankyou Leonie,
Sorry, I did mean 'folders as projects'. Here is my file structure.....very basic....folder<year>....folder<month>....project<day>
This is not allowing me to insert a sheenshot for some reason, but the project name for each day is simply '13' for example instaed of 2012-04-13 as in Frank's example. But other than that, our file structures are the same.
If I shoot for a couple of weeks that bridges 2 months for example, does this script download last months photos into last months (already existing) folder, creating and naming new projects for each day........then create and name this month's folder and create and name the days as projects?
I have to say that I find it fairly curious that Aperture needs a kind contributor like Frank to write this whole Apple script thing to do what the download utilities from Canon, Nikon and most other manufacturers do automatically.
I feel like I must be missing something incridably obvious or is it really very unusual to want your photos in chronological order??
