Recording from an Analog Device?

Alright, I have a line in Analog Tape device that can plug in to my line in port on my PC (Windows Vista Ultimate), and Soundbooth recognizes it. The only problem is, when I record, the audio is distorted because its too loud. So, I went to my Control Panel, and changed the Sound settings so that it wouldnt record as loud. However, when I went back to Soundbooth, it was still loud. I went back to my Control Panel Sound settings to make it even lower, but the levels were reset to maximum. I even cleared the checkbox Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device, but it didnt make a difference. Is there a way to fix this?

Are you adjusting the recording levels rather than the playback levels? Just checking.

  • Recording from a MIDI device

    Hello,
Is it possible to record from a MIDI device? I connected my keyboard via an M-Audio USB UNO interface. I used MIDI-OX to confirm that my Windows XP PC was able to input and output a MIDI signal. But I do not see a MIDI input option in Soundbooth's Record dialog box. And when I check audio levels, nothing shows up in the dialog box. I checked my Recording Control dialog box and MIDI/Synth is selected.

I think you need Adobe Audition.  Soundbooth I believe is strictly Audio waveforms capable.

  • Recording from a Stereo Device to Audio-In Port

Hello, I'm new...I'm attempting to record from my korg kaoss pad to my powerbook g4 (17in) - the kaoss pad has stereo effects that are lost when recording through my mac's audio input jack. I am considering purchasing a usb audio interface - will this solve the problem? any other possible solutions?
I can't even figure out how to record in mono so that the mono signal pans center...easy to do in garageband, but i can't seem to find this option in soundtrack...I've been resorting to duplicating every track and panning them right......bah!

    Hi,
Are you trying to upload to your computer, the audio tracks on old LPs played on the stereo? If so, probably a better way to go is to get a second set of audio cables to go from the audio/line-out jack of either the phonograph or amplifier (depending upon your stereo's setup) to the audio-in jack at the back of your Dell (assuming you have a sound card installed).
I suspect if you use the iPod Voice Memo mic for recording the LP as it plays over-the-air so to speak, the quality won't be great. Better to input directly into the sound card the audio output produced by the stereo.
Depending upon what you want to do with the audio tracks once it's on the Dell, you can get other pieces of hardware, such as an M-box, or software to further clean up to sound, before you import it into iTunes (for example).

  • Audio track recording with 2 MIDI devices on Channel Spitter

I now have a turn table set running through XLR cables into an M-Audio interface, and than into a USB Hub which runs into the MacG5.
I've got the Channel Splitter Track hooked up, and I am now tryin to record 2 MIDI Devices and an Audio track (from turntables) at the same time. Is this possible ?
I've gone into the Audio Drivers and Hardware window and messed around but with no success. Do you have any advice for me ?
I am very new to this so step by step would help alot. Thankyou.

I've tried that, and what happens is the Instr track is picked up and recorded but I'm getting nothing from the audio track.
It seems that the Logic wants to read the devices one at a time. Meaning, I can get it to read the audio interface but not the Midi, or the Midi and no audio. It will not read both at the same time. ( when Logic is picking up the audio interface I can see that it's getting a signal from my midi devices but I'm getting no sound, and nothing is being recorded from the midi devices).
I have a feeling that I've done something wrong in the Audio Hardware and Drivers window.
Thankyou again for your time, I'm detirmined to learn this system. You've been a big help.

  • How to download (contacts) records from a device?

I've noticed that iSync only syncs information of records that exist on both Mac and device (unless the option is chosen that the records on the device should be fully replaced by the Mac's contents) and updates missing records on the device. However, it does not update missing records on my Mac. So if John and Mary are on my Mac and John and Suzy are on the device, Mary will be added to the device, any info on John that has changed will be transferred to the Mac or the device according to which changes were latest, but Suzy will not be imported from the device to my Mac. But that's what I want it to do, too!
So basically - how can I import records from a device to my Address Book for pete's sake?! (I use a Motorola Pebl, but I'm aiming to discover the general trick, if it exists that is - which it should.)
    Many thanks in advance!

Ok, the weirdest thing just happened...
I wanted to follow your suggestions, but backing up my phone's contacts is not possible (at least not without a lot of fuss googling feeble third-party apps, which I loathe). So I went on backing up and erasing my address book trying to d/l everything from my mobile.
And what happened? A few seconds after erasing every record, the records that are only on my mobile suddenly appeared in my address book! It's like it only now discovers there are some records imported. Very buggy, that feels. Well, I think I'll manage from here, but it would be nice if this sort of thing would not happen...

That's a chip, not a board. Get the data sheet, look at the logic
diagrams, and you should be able to bit-bang the three logic inputs (well,
two plus a chip select) with your 6534.
Alternatively, the chip uses SPI communication. You can probably find some
help by searching for SPI on the NI site. It also looks like a third party
has a $200 solution the will let you do this via a parallel port, complete
    with labview drivers, at http://www.calbay.com/product16.html

    2) plugin ADISUSBZ USB Dev board, windows see a unknow device, using VISA Driver Wizard to create a USB driver inf file for ADISUSBZ
    3) installed the new driver which VISA Driver Wizard created, restarted computer, ADISUSBZ is identified and loaded with VISA USB driver. also showing "This device is working properly."
    4) Run Measurement & Automation Explorer, in the Devices and Interfaces list, I can see that USB device which is the ADISUSBZ. but the name is
Unkown USB0::0x0456::0xEF02::NI-VISA-40002::RAW   (the VID PID tell me, it is the ADISUSBZ USB Dev board)
    5) Open VISA Test panel -> View All Settable Attributes, I got below data, where  VI_ATTR_USB_BULK_IN_STATUS = -1 (not active???)

    6) Basic I/O  -> viRead  , set count to 1 or default 1024 , execute
    return status is always BFFF003A
I searched in error list, it says
"BFFF003A Unable to start operation because setup is invalid."
any idea what is wrong? help
BTW, the ADISUSBZ USB board works fine, test with its own software, it is not hardware faulty

    Hi Eric
I have a few questions for you as well as a number
of likes that will help you.
What software are you using NI VISA with is it just
    Measurement and automation explorer ?
Which version of NI VISA are you using?
Which operating system are you using?
In measurement and automation explorer is there a
yellow question mark against the device?
I would advise reading the likes below if you have
not already creating the VISA driver again checking the manufacture ID and
model code if these options are available to you.

  • Using USB-8451, and AD7747 from Analog Devices to measure capacitance and convert the capacitance to digital output

    Hello,
I am new to LabView and data aqusition. I have LabView 8.5.1 installed on my laptop, and I studied the Getting Started document of LabView, except the data aqusition chapter.
I have microfabricated a differential capacitive sensor, and now I want to test the capabilities of my sensor.
After asking NI engineers, I have been suggested to use USB-8451 with AD7747 (24-Bit Capacitance-to-Digital Converter) from Analog Devices because AD7747 has I2C serial interface.
I have ordered USB-8451, AD7747, and Evaluation Board for AD7747. And I am waiting for them.
Are there any suggestions about how to connect my differential capacitive sensor to AD7747, and eventually to USB-8451?
You may want to know some further information to answer my question:
*The sensor is similar to the sensor on pages 501, 514, and 515 of "Microsystem Design" book from author Stephen D. Senturia.
*The datasheet for AD7747 can be reached from this link: http://www.analog.com/static/imported-files/data_sheets/AD7747.pdf
*My purpose is to make a very precise and accurate "displacement measurement micodevice" by using "the change in the capacitance" during the motion of the mobile fingers of the sensor.
As an initial challenge for myself, I will feel satisfied if I can measure the capacitance change in my sensor when I apply an external mechanical disturbance to my sensor. For example, there must be a change in capacitance if I just swing my hand from top of the sensor region.
I am looking forward for your reply,
    Thanks in advance,
    Sincerely,
    sriverfxtr

    Hi Aaron,
Here you go, this is made with a USB-8452.
When you run the code tick the power en dac enable box on.
Maybe you can help me with my problem, I want to use a fiber to sense light from a led.
Do you use any fiber hardware with the TCS3414?

  • Serial port communication to read from an inertail sensor from Analog Devices

Hi, I have an Inertial Sensor ADIS16350 by Analog Devices. My motive is to read continuous data from the sensor. The sensor firmware has specific commands as follows:
    at wil return OK
ra will read once from sensor
ca will read continuously from sensor
When I try this in the hyperterminal it all works fine.
However I tried in labview the same method. However when I send any of this commands the front panel shows an Error message. Meaning if I send 'at' command, instead of returning 'OK' I get 'ERROR: 61-74-30-43-error' I believe this is an error sent by the sensor firmware. However just to test the system, I tried sending the 'continuous acquisition' command from my LABVIEW program, close LabVIEW, Open Hyperterminal. To see the data is being received at the Hyperterminal.
Has anyone come acroos such a situation? Your feedback is greatly appreciated.
    Thankyou!
    Chathuri
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Chathuri,
Suggest you try using NISpy to monitor the port.  With NISpy running, use Hyperterminal to send command.  Shut down Hyperterminal to free up the port and try your LV vi.  Now you can look at the NISpy log and compare what the two programs are doing.

  • Has anyone developed drivers for ADMC401 from Analog devices?

I am trying to develop an interface to an ADMC401 which uses ADSP2171 processor. I am wondering if any one has developed any drivers for this.

    Hello,
I did a quick web search and was unable to find any 3rd-party LabVIEW drivers for this device. Your best bet is to check with Analog Devices and see if they have any LabVIEW drivers for this hardware.
I wish you luck in your search. Have a pleasant day.

  • Mac Mini, Audacity and recording from vinyl and CD

I'd like to record some of my vinyl and CD collection but I've tried following the Audacity instructions but I can't get them to work. Either I don't seem to have the right Line In / Line Out or I seem to have everything right but it just doesn't work.
I play my vinyl and CDs on separates that are hooked up to my mac via an R8 Jack (?). Is it possible to use audacity to record from them?

Hi, what is an R8 jack? Do your devices output Line level?
Audio in/optical audio in port ...
The Audio In port accommodates both digital optical input and analog audio input.
Analog audio line input is accepted through a 3.5mm mini phone jack. The sound input port accepts line-level stereo signals up to 24-bit stereo 44.1-192kHz sampling rate. It also accepts a stereo miniplug-to-RCA cable adapter for connecting stereo equipment to the computer.
Optical audio input is SPDIF format and uses a standard TOSLINK cable with a TOSLINK mini-plug adapter, accepting up to 24-bit stereo and 44.1-96kHz sampling rate.
Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there.

  • Recording from vcr

My 17 in G4 powerbook has svideo which allows me to watch movies on my tv. Question is, is this svideo conection in and out? I'd like to use it to record from my VCR to digitize some of my older vhs footage.
    Peter

I've converted VHS movies into a digital format. The easiest way to to that is to get an analog to digital converter box. I have an older version of http://desktop.grassvalley.com/products/ADVC55/index.php which works just fine with my Powerbook. They also make additional models with more features. If you have a video camera that allows an RCA input with a Firewire output, I'd guess that would also work.
The easiest way to do it is to use the iMovie application, then use iDvd to create a DVD. If you get into it, you may find some limitations in iMovie and iDvd, in which case Final Cut Express would be a good step up.

  • Anyone ever try recording from PS3  to Mac using EyeTVHD  ?

    Hello,
I am connecting my PS3 with a multi AV cable to the back of my PS3 and connecting the blue green red cables to the EyeTVHD but I always get a NO SIGNAL message on the Mac.
Has anyone tried this and got it to work?
Is it possible to record games, regular dvds, and bluray using this setup ?
Which are possible and which are not ?
I can record from my regular dvd player ( but picture only - no sound )
The back of the dvd player has a digital video out but I believe EyeTVHD only accepts analog input. So not sure how to get sound if that is the case.
If anyone can help with the PS3 connections or the dvd player sound - much thanks.
Is the only way to record bluray to purchase a bluray writer and would the bluray writer work with the PS3 using EYETVHD with the Mac - man it's really getting confusing now.
thanks if anyone can lead me out of the wilderness here

I am connecting my PS3 with a multi AV cable to the back of my PS3 and connecting the blue green red cables to the EyeTVHD but I always get a NO SIGNAL message on the Mac.
That's probably because, as you describe your setup, nothing is connected to the Mac.
