Recording from record onto my Mac

Hi....can anyone help!
I've got a record player that I want to hook up with my Mac and record my records into it so I can use them on my ipod?!
Chris

You will need something like the iMic by Griffin Technology. iMic provides a USB input to the iBook.
Depending on the record player, you may need some kind of pre-amp. If it is a high quality turntable, you will need the pre-amp, or be able to connect to a stereo amplifier. If the player includes the amplifer, then you can connect either to an available output jack (to tape recorder, etc.) or to a head phone jack. To make these connections, you will need the appropriate adapters. The iMic has a standard 1/8 inch stereo input. If you must use the head phone jack on the amp, you will need to play with the volume to prevent distortion of the sound. Start with the volume at the lowest level, and adjust until you are just shy of overdriving the input.
I have not tried iTunes yet, but understand that it is easy to use. I did most of my record conversion before the advent of iTunes. I used a Shareware program call Amadeus.

    Have you launched and tired Image Capture? When it's launched with the iPad connected the photos will display in the window.  Select those you want to upload and use the Import to: menu and select Other.  Navigate to the Desktop and select the folder you created to hold those photos.

  • Suddenly I cannot get photos from iPad onto my Mac.

    From the beginning, I simply connected the iPad2 to my Mac with the USB, and all photos were uploaded onto my Mac. I've followed all the directions to get updates for both Mac and iPad2. Now none of my new photos upload onto the Mac. Can you help?

    I'm not sure how you were importing the photos on your Mac but the two ways that I know of are with iPhoto and Image Capture.
    Open iPhoto and go to Preferences>General>Connecting Camera Opens - and you can select iPhoto or Image Capture.
    Connect your iPad to your Mac and Open Image Capture. Click on devices and then at the bottom of the left side you can select - Connecting this iPad Opens - and choose the app of your choice from there. These are copied and pasted from Help in the two applications.
    When you connect the iPad now, one of the chosen applications will open and let you import the images.
    To import photos from iPad:
    Connect your iPad to your computer using the Dock Connector to USB cable that came with your iPad.If iPhoto wasn’t already open, it opens for you (unless you changed this preference in iPhoto or your iPad is locked).After your iPad is connected and turned on, iPhoto opens in import view and your iPad appears in the Source list.
    By default, iPhoto divides photos into separate Events during the import process.You can optionally enter a description in the Event Name field.If you don’t want iPhoto to automatically create events, deselect the Split Events checkbox at the bottom of the window.If you want to change the time frame used to sort your photos into Events, you can change it in iPhoto preferences.
    If you don’t want to see photos that you’ve already imported into iPhoto, select the Hide Photos Already Imported checkbox at the bottom of the window.
    Do one of the following:
    To import all the photos shown in the iPhoto window, click Import All.
    To import a selection of photos, press the Command key while clicking photo thumbnails, or drag to select a group of photos, and then click Import Selected.
    To cancel photo transfer at any time during your import, click Stop Import. Then, in the dialog that appears, choose to continue importing the photos, keep the photos that have been imported and stop importing the remaining photos, or delete the photos that have been imported.
    After the import process is finished, drag the device icon to the iPhoto Trash, and then disconnect your iPad from your computer by unplugging the Dock Connector to USB cable.Important:  Before you disconnect your iPad, wait until all photos have been imported into iPhoto (or until you click Stop Import).
    This is from Image Capture. I'm assuming you used Image Capture.
    Transferring items automatically
    You can automatically transfer items from your camera to your computer whenever you connect the camera to your computer.
    To transfer items whenever you connect your camera:
    Connect your camera to your computer, and turn the camera on.
    Select the camera in the Devices list at the left of the Image Capture window.
    From the “Connecting this [device] opens” pop-up menu, choose AutoImporter.If you don’t see that pop-up menu, click the “Show device settings” button in the lower-left corner.
    The next time you connect your camera, Image Capture transfers images from the camera to the AutoImporter folder in your Pictures folder (in your home folder).

  • Can i edit dvds i recorded from tv onto dvdrw with idvd?

    anyone know?
    thanks

    Len is right, iDVD is an authoring, encoding and burning app for (mostly) dv video files....
    a DVD isn't meant for further processing, has a delivery format... needs conversion => lots of computation, lossy process...
    your options, to convert DVD into dv are:
    * DVDxDV (free trial, 25$)
    * Apple mpeg2 plugin (20$) + Streamclip (free)
    * Cinematize >60$
    * Mpeg2Works >25$ + Apple plug-in
    * Toast6/7 allows converting to dv/slide-in dvd, hit apple-k
    * connect your Camera to a DVD-player and copy to tape/use as converter

  • My hard drive crashed with no backup.  How can I get the data from iCloud onto my Mac?

    My hard drive went bad and needed to be replaced and I've lost everything that was on it (no backup - I know, I know...).  Fortunately much of my data was backed up either on icloud or my ipad but I haven't been able to find any information about restoring it FROM icloud or ipad TO my Mac, only about how to restore to an ios device.  I am running Lion.  Thank you!

    I guess what I meant to say was that I can log on to icloud to see my contacts, calendars, etc but is there a way to get that data onto my computer?  In other words, how do I associate my new hard drive with my icloud account?  I am probably not phrasing this properly - sorry.  Three days ago (pre-crash) my desktop was configured to reflect my icloud info but I don't know how to make it do so again...does this make sense

  • Getting songs from nano onto new mac

    i just got my new macbook and i was wondering how i can get the songs from my ipod nano onto my new computer. My old computer had windows, so therefore my nano is formatted for windows. i read a little bit about how to do it, but this is my first mac and im having trouble. so if someone could give me some help that'd be great. im just getting used to this new system so if you could dumb down the instructions i'd really appreciate it.
    thanks so much.

    There are a number of third party utilities that can retrieve the files from your iPod. My daughter uses her iPod Mini she's over visiting she has an account on my Mac. We have used Sentuti to move playlists into her iTunes on the Mac. It's pretty intuitive and simple to use, you simply drag and drop tracks or playlists to iTunes within Senuti's own interface panel.
    Senuti: http://wbyoung.ambitiouslemon.com/senuti
    Others you could look at are:
    YamiPod: http://www.yamipod.com/
    PodUtil: http://www.kennettnet.co.uk/software/podutil.php
    If your iPod was set for automatic update, you'll probably want to change it to manual update until you have completed reloading your new Mac. While connecting the iPod to the computer hold down the ⌥ and ⌘ keys. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 3 and 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box.

  • How to parse a record (from record store) to String?

    Hi,
    I have a record store which stores movie titles specified by users (from multiple-selection list). I tried to access the records using nextRecord() from RecordEnumeration. This would return a byte array.
    How shall I parse the byte array to a String? I tried ByteArrayInputStream toString() method; I tried creating a new String with the byte as parameter. But it simply does not produce the original String. Sometimes it gives me something like a hex. string. Can anyone point out what has gone wrong?
    Thanks.

    lily2007 wrote:
    toString() returns this: "java.io.ByteArrayInputStream@1cb37664"
    What does it mean?That means that toString() is not overridden and does not return the content of the stream as a bytearray (ByteArrayOutputStream however does do this).
    I tried the new String(byte) method and got back the original String but with some whitespace in front.Let me guess: you write the string using writeUTF()?

  • Syncing songs from ipod onto a mac?

    I recently lost all the music off my notebook because it crashed and I lost everything. I was just wondering, is there a way of putting songs from your ipod onto your notebook?

    Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
    Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
    The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
    Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
    Senuti Mac Only
    PodView Mac Only
    PodWorks Mac Only
    iPodDisk PPC Mac Only (experimental version available for Intel Macs)
    TuneAid Mac only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac & Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    Floola Mac & Windows
    iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible - Windows version only)
    There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
    Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Getting old 'Sent" messages from server onto my Mac

    I am using Mail 2.1.3 on a Mac Mini with OSX 10.4.11.
    I have used web mail (earthlink) exclusively for a number of years and now want to switch to a new email provider. I would also like to start using Apple Mail. I need to preserve my old send messages as well as my old inbox messages.
    In doing some testing, I can get old inbox messages to come down from the server into Mail on the Mac. However I have no idea how to get the old 'Sent" messages down. Can't find anything about it in Help or elsewhere.
    I'm logging into server mail via POP.
    Can anyone help put me on the right path? Thanks.

    Never mind, I figured it out for myself.
    I contacted earthlink and they were useless, as usual. They do not support IMAP and they insisted it was "impossible" to export messages from the sent box or archive them in any way. When I pushed back on that, they told me one way would be to go into each message and forward it to myself (thus having it appear in my inbox.) With thousands of messages, that was not going to happen.
    So I poked around and realized that right on the menu is an option to move messages from one box to another. I mass selected all the messages in my sent box and moved them to my inbox, and they all came down to my Mac. Easy as could be.
    The messages are now co-mingled all in the inbox, (but still in order by date) but that's okay, because I just need to archive them.
    FYI for anyone else having this problem, I am switching to gmail, and I also found out that gmail has an option for pulling all your old messages into their mail service, with many common email providers supported. Whether this pulls in the sent messages or just the inbox, I don't know. But gmail supports IMAP, so if you can get them over there, you should then be able to get them down to your Mac/PC. So that could be another option.
