Recording Guitar in the Software Instrument

Hey all, how are you?
It's possible to make a track using the Chord of the guitar, like D, Dm, C#? Because the keyboard that appear only works fine if you want to make a piano song. Its so confuse to make a guitar chord using that keyboard.
Thanks

What exactly to you want to do?

  • How can I record a microphone and software instrument at the same time in Garageband 10.0.1?  It seems I can record one or the other, but not both at the same time?

I am trying to record a vocal mic and a keyboard (using a software instrument) at the same time using Garageband 10.0.1.  It seems that I can't record the mic input and the software instrument at the same time.  I can record the mic input by itself, and I can record the software instrument by itself (if I don't have a mic input track created), but I can't record them together.
It seems like this should be an obvious thing to be able to do, but I can't figure out how to make it work.
    Can someone help?
    Thanks,
    Kurt

you need to "record enable" both tracks:

  • Live Recording with mics and Software Instruments

Has anyone used the Software Instruments in GB to play live, while recording the Software Instruments direct and live (Real Instruments) as well?
I'm thinking about getting a FirePod or similar, to record my band live using several mics and playing and recording Software Instruments all at once. I'm concerned that this set up might have too much latency and make the Software Instruments not playable with my band live, and perhaps all this might make my iMac G5 bog down.
Anyone have any experiences with any or all of this kind of use of GarageBand with an audio/MIDI interface?
    iMac G5 20"   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hey Hang,
Sorry if I'm talking in circles. That post was early!
I'd like to be able to use the built-in Software Instruments live and record that MIDI as well as the live tracks at the same time. However, I could deal with using my own keyboards for the live sounds and just record the MIDI from them while recording the live tracks too, if that makes the system work. For instance, if the part I wanted was a piano, and the Software Instrument piano used too much processor power, I could "record" with a smaller instrument that wasn't such a hog. Then, in mixing, I'd use the Software Instrument I wanted for the keyboard part. Live, my real keyboard could provide the piano for all to hear.
    Am I making sense yet?
I suppose one thing I could do is something I was thinking of doing already. I could get one of the $40 MIDI-to-USB interfaces to record with the band. Right now, I'm just using a stereo mic set up to record stereo into GB. I could add MIDI and see what happens. Heck, I could enable 6 more real instrument tracks at the same time and see what happens! Then I would know it was possible on the iMac at least.

  • What happened to all the software instruments?

I recently got a macbook pro w/ garageband 4.1.1 (I used to have gb 2.0.2) Did they get rid of most of the software instruments for this version? For example, the only guitar that is available is "steel string acoustic", whereas with 2.0.2 there were about 12 guitars to chose from. What's up with this? If they did get rid of them, is there somewhere I can get these instruments from? Thanks!

You have to install them from your #2 install disk that came with your mac.

  • Polyphony- how many notes can play at one time with the software instrument

Hello everyone! Is the Polyphony limited in Garageband 3 when playing the software instruments? Is there a setting I should tweak? I noticed this when using the sustain pedal with the grand piano sound.

I can't give you exact figures, but GB does have problems with overlapping notes. It's weird sometimes - while it certainly can play a lot of notes at a time, like big chords, it chokes on melodies where the notes overlap. I don't know of any other fix than making sure that the notes don't overlap.

  • Using the Software Instruments

Okay, having trouble trying out any of the software synths in Logic
Was following Logic Pro 7 Tutorial Book on P. 68 in creating
Audio Objects manually, but got lost after I created a New Audio Object and
how to click a Channel Entry in Obj Parameter Box?
I simply want to try out the software synths (don't have a MIDI keyboard yet)
I know how to activate Caps Lock to basically control synths
Just missing the simples steps about activating the ES1 synth or
    any of the other synths
    thanks

Choose an Instrument track, assign an instrument to it, push the caps lock and play.
If needed, place the track in record mode.

  • Control only the software instrument of one channel strip at a time with one Controller

    Hi people,
I have a Nord Lead 2 and a Korg Nanokontrol and I want to use these as Midi controllers in the following way, but don't really know how to set up the system:
I have 4 Channelstrips and each has the free software instrument Tyrell N6 inserted. I have the opportunity to change the volume of each channel strip with my faders on the Nanokontrol which works fine and gives me the opportunity to make layers and change also to only use one sound at a time. And this works fine. However, now I want to have the opportunity to change the parameters of each Tyrell with my Nord Lead. But with 4 channelstrips each with a Tyrell N6 I want to have the opportunity to only somehow manipulate only one instance of Tyrell at a time and change the channelstrip for which the Nord Lead manipulates the Tyrell. Is there an opportunity in Mainstage to do that?
Hope it is understandable. Help would be really much appricated. Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Hi DaCaptain,
Thank you very much for your answer. I tried it yesterday, but it doesnt really work for me to be honest. The thing is that I really wanna stick to one patch, so that I can have like one patch for each song.
However, if you might be interested I found a way to do it yesterday on my own. This is how I have done it:
    In Layout-Mode
    - Create Controls for each instance of Tyrell. For my purpose I created 4 times:
                 - controlls for the Filter Section
                 - controls for ADSR1
                 - controls for ADSR2
    - So you have 4 Sections of controllers in Layout Mode. Each meant to controll one Tyrell Instance
    - Now each section gets its own Midi Channel. So all the controllers of section 1 respond to MIDI Channel 1 and the controllers of section 2 respond to MIDI Channel 2 and so on.
    - Now you tell the Nord Lead that it should send via MIDI Channel 1 and you assign the Cutoff-Controller of the Nord Lead to the controller (the one of the first section) that is suppose to control the cutoff of the first Tyrell. And you proceed this way until all the controllers of the first sections are assigned. Then you swith to MIDI Channel 2 on the Nord Lead and assign the Cutoff-Controller of the Nord Lead to the controller (the one of the second section) that is suppose to control the cutoff of the second Tyrell. And here again you proceed this way until all the controllers of the second sections are assigned. Then you go on with the third and fourth section taking MIDI Channel 3 and 4.
    In Edit-Mode
    - In Edit Mode now you of course assign the controllers to the functions in each Tyrell
    Result
    - Now you can switch between the MIDI Channels on the Nord Lead. This is quiet easy because you can assign a MIDI Channel to one of four buttons on the Nord Lead.
    - So if you switch to MIDI Channel 1 you can controll the functions of the first Tyrell and if you switch to MIDI Channel 2 you can controll the functions of the second Tyrell. And all in one Patch with only one controller which is even from the nineties. I find this really great. The only problem is that the Layout might get really messy, if you try to maybe control more functions of each Tyrell. And I really think maybe Mainstage in future could give us the opportunity to create bigger Layouts - maybe with different Windows or something.
Hope you might find this interesting or even helpful.
    See you

You may disregard the Focusrite adverts and concentrate on what they say about microphone placement and room treatment in particular.

  • Why can't I use the software acoustic guitar in drop-D tuning?

While using the software instrument acoustic guitar, all notes at D1 and below play a chord-like sound.  Everything above D1 sounds normal.  I can't imagine this is by design, considering drop-D is a common tuning. Is this a known defect, or have I got something configured wrong?

Here's the solution (just in case someone else stumbles across this same problem and actually finds my question).
I'm an absolute beginner, so I'll describe this at a high level since I don't know all the correct terminology.
Open the ESX24 sampler on the Acoustic Guitar track.  The selected instrument will be "Acoustic Guitar".  Make a copy of that and rename it to Drop-D Acoustic Guitar.  Bring up the instrument editor (the edit button).
Oddly, from the keyboard, D1 plays fine.  But in my song, D1 is triggering two samples.  When I play the note from the score (by clicking on the note), the instrument editor highlights to two samples, Zone #1271 and Zone #1399.  1399 is a chord and it is played in the range C1 to D1.  I'm not sure how the ESX24 determines when to play each sample, since pressing D1 on the keyboard of the instrument editor only highlights 1271, but I don't really care.  I changed the entry in the 1399 row to set the Key Range Hi to be C#1, so that it won't play on D1.  There may have been another sample I had to do this to, but I can't seem to find it.  In any case, you get the idea.  Save the instrument, and now you can reliably play a drop-D guitar.
I hope that description was good enough to put you on the right track.

  • Software Instrument - Guitar

Hello, I got Logic pro 9 and grageband on both my mac and ipad but I was wondering if there's a way I can create the sound of hitting acustic guitar with your hand by using the software instrument. (You know how people use that sounds to kindda make a tempo)?
    Thank you very much!

does GB09 still have the same old amp effects for software instruments
i.e guitar amps as in 08?

  • Unable to hear and record software instruments

I can only hear and record my Korg TR Music Workstation instruments. How can I hear/record the software instruments (from Logic Express 9, Garage Band/Jam Packs)? I have my Korg connected to the computer through an M-Audio recording interface.

    You can hear them by:
    1. Making sure your midi input is functioning   (see a little movement in the transport box)
    2. Selecting a virtual instrument in the box just above the 'out' box above the track volume slider
    3. Play the chosen instrument from midi keyboard,   or draw a region, open,   play vertical keyboard on Left side with mouse.
I hope you don't really try to record instruments in the Jam Packs because they're not instruments.
As far as I know , they're loops.

  • How do you record an external Midi Instrument + Software instrument track down to a combined Audio track ?

I have two piano sounds I'm trying to blend into one. One is an external MIDI module set up as an external instrument within Logic and the other is a software plugin instrument (Ivory II). I'm trying to record the blended pianos into a single audio track so I can ditch the midi track and more so the CPU intense software Instrument track (it's killing my setup....). For the life of me I can't figure out how to assign both these entities as inputs and get them to record simultaneosuly onto an audio track.
My setup is a Presonus Studiolive 16.4.2 with the following assignments:
The external MIDI module's audio output is routed stereo directly into channel strips 9 and 10. By default the firewire output of this channel strip is returned to firewire outputs 9-10 on the studiolive, but this really doesn't matter since recorded audio is being monitored thru the main output buss assigned to channels 17 and 18.
My software plugin (Ivory II) is routed to output channels 17 and 18 which is the default setting for routing the output to the master buss for the Presonus.
On my audio track that's setup in Logic I can assign the inputs to 9 and 10 and I get the external midi module's output to record, but I cannot find any way to get the software instruments output into this mix because there is no input assignment for this.
Is there any way to combine these two entities and assign them to record onto a single audio track or am I missing something here? If there's no simple way to do this, can somebody offer any tip or ideas on how to accomplish the same thing here. I really need to ditch the software plugin. My setup only seems to be able to handle one plug in at a time on the software instrument side. Not sure why that is because my setup is not that old and the memory on my MBP is maxed out at 4GB....but that's another topic of discussion
Any suggenstions would be much appreciated...

    Thanks for the reply....
I actually tried freezing the software instrument track and that had little if no effect on CPU. I then read in the book or somewhere that the freeze function really only works on effect plugins. Don't know if that's true in all cases, but that seems to be what's happening.  Still would like to combine these tracks and I'm guessing I'm going to have to get creative with bussing or subgroups to make this happen. Unfortunately I think the fact that my Presonus board has hardmapped output routings for all the inputs makes that difficult, but haven't actually tried yet. I'm thinking if I can reroute the midi modules audio output input into the Presonus to a subgroup and then route the software instrument plug in to the same subgroup that I can then mix/capture this and hopefully route the audio's input to the subgroup to pick up the mix.
Does this make sense to anybody reading this?
We'll see and I'll post the results if it works....
    thanks...b

  • Playing 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 software instruments at the same time

in older days, if you clicked on 3 programs in the sequencer like track 1,2 and 3 which made them blink on an Ensoniq TS10
you heard all three instruments at the same time which allowed for quite a nice sound. Other companies im sure had this feature. This was great for live playing as you had lots of combinations of SI/programs to experiment with. It seems GB when played live only plays one of the SI at a time. Am i wrong here? wouldnt it be nice if we could hit track one with piano, then double click track 2 with a synth pad, then the same with track 3 with a flute combine their sounds and depending on the RAM & processor speed ( ive got tons ) one could hear live the combination of multiple si and sf2's. this should be on GB 3.1 when i play at home live i should be able to hear the combination of sounds not just one of them

Drag the software instrument(s) into the timeline. Just clicking on a si loop in the browser window is for previewing the si. You can change the length of the loops by grabbing the right edge of the loop and dragging it.
Play around with GB and read the Help files.

  • Where can I find a full list of the Logic Pro X Software Instruments?

Where can I find a full list of the Logic Pro X Software Instruments (the ones you can play with a MIDI keyboard)?  From what I've read so far, there are a number of new software instruments in the LPX additional content (as well as loops, etc, but I'm looking for the software instruments).  I cannot seem to find this information in the product pages or documentation, though.
With older versions, I was able to find a list of all of the software instruments that came with the software, and all of the software instruments that came with the Jam Packs.  Is that list available from Apple, or does anyone have one from somewhere else?

    Hi Guys,
I exported my folders from a clean LPX install, does this give you what you want?
First one is the Patch instruments:
