- AFAIK, none of CT player software supports Record as FLAC
- Rip w/ EAC to WAV format - http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/
- decode to FLAC : http://flac.sourceforge.net/
#2 - If NX supports ASIO/KernelStreaming then Winamp w/ ASIO or KernelStreaming opuput plugin maybe gives the best SQ you can get from that card
#3 - yes, it should be possible but, I don't know how's the ripping then (i.e. do you need to record then instead of just copying bits)

  • How to perform simultaneous multitrack recording with an Audigy 4 P

    Dear Sir/Madam,
We are comming from the Uni'versity of Maribor, Slovenia. We recently buyed an Audigy 4 Pro Sound Blaster for our studio recording purposes. Here is the description of the problem:
We would like to record the speech database which will be used later to perform text to speech sinthesis (sampling rate of 96kHz, 24-bit resolution). Therefore, we need to SIMULTANEOUSLY record the stereo signals from 2 microphones located at different distances. That is, for each microphone we would have two channels which resulted in a requirement of recording 4 channels symultaneously!!!
We succeded to record the signals from either first or second microphone separately, but we couldn't record the stereo signals from the both microphones simultaneously!!! Namely, in the Creative mixer there is possible to select ONLY one recording input in a time. But we need to record the signal simultaneously from two inputs.
    Our question are:
. How can we perform simultaneous, multitrack recording with an Audigy 4 Pro using two stereo inputs (e.g. from Line In and Line In 2 inputs)?
    2. Which -from Creative recommended- recording software supports this multritrack recording? Namely, the recordings from the two microphones should be aligned in time as much as possible.
Thank you very much for your help!
    Altair

    Hi
You need recording software (Cubasis (not sure), Cubase, Sonar, etc.) which supports
ASIO drivers and a 'multichannel' microphone pre-amp/mixer to get microphone(s) connected
    'separately' into Audigy Input's.
ASIO driver gives more 'Input sources' to choose from compared to WDM's one stereo/2 mono
    channel capability.

  • Recording & editting on Audigy

Hi everyone,I am new to this forum and audigy 2zs.. Could anyone out there explain me if my sound card Audigy 2ZS is compliant with XP Vista 64 bit, does not?even matter to me as long as it supports it as a 32 bit. I just want to make sure that drivers & applications are working to there full potentials 'cause I noticed some yellow marks in the device manager as "unknown device".2. Does this card offer multiple physical inputs (sort of muti track recording adjustments or editting) or have options to edit'sinputs individually on mic ( to add echo & effects) as well as strip vocals from? the source music. In simple terms I want to be able to download a song from online or play it through the source, strip vocals or depress it to the minimum levels and add my voice to it ( sort of karaoke ). But the dilema is that I want to add effects & echo to my vocals only while not corrupting the actual music in the background and I would like to have an option to listen to?it the way it's been recorded?so that I can adjust the background music and my vocals while it's been recorded. Please help, any gesture would be highly appreciated.

    DarkJon64,
Creative Surround Mixer is the master volume control for most of our sound cards. This is included on the installation and application CD and should be installed by default. You can usually find it in the start menu section for your sound card.

  • Distorted / choppy recorded sound with Audigy 2 ZS and Vista 64-bit

Hi, I wonder if anybody has any idea of why this issue is happening. First let me give you my PC specs:
    CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 940 @ 3.0 GHz
    Mobo: Gigabyte GA-M57SLI-S4 rev. 2.0
    Graphics: 2 x BFG GeForce 8800 GT 52MB
    RAM: 4 x GB G.Skill PC6400 @ 800 MHz
Sound: Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS
TV Tuner:? Hauppauge WinTV PVC PCI II (26xxx)
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP
?So here's the deal. I have no problems whatsoever with audio playback with this sound card. The issue I am having is while recording sound with it. When I record my voice via a Microphone with the Windows Sound Recorder and then play it back, my voice sounds very choppy. It sounds as if I was talking in front of a fan. The same happens with any program I try to use. If I use Audacity to record sound, the playback is also distorted / choppy. The main problem is with Skype, as I cannot use it to talk to people because they cannot understand what I'm saying because of the issue. Does anybody has any ideas why this happens? My PC is a dual boot PC with Vista 64-bit and XP 32-bit, and this issue only happens with Vista. Sound recorded plays back fine under Windows XP.
I am using the latest drivers available for this card from the Creative site.
    I'd appreciate your help,
    Daniel

A little bit off topic here, but 64bit does not mean more performance at all lol.
Sure, but there are in some cases drastic performence diferences. Under a fresh installed Vista X64 i have less CPU usage, as under 32 bit. But of course X64 uses more RAM (some tasks are double 32 and 64 bit). But the main reason I have more performence is, that the games I often play, get almost a boost. Dont ask me why, but under 64 bit EAW and FOC have the same FPS as under 32 bit. But under X64 I use a bit more Details and a higher resolution. (both are 32 bit games, so its a bit funy )?______________________?Sure there are other ways to install the drivers. But if some Setup dosent work, the first thing I try is to get it via Divice Management. And as this worked for me, I dont waste time to try other methods (Had bad experience, you can break the driver faster than install it *G*)?______________________?Some Questions I have left (after a few hours undr X64 with Creative Drivers):?Could it be, that the driver causes sometimes havy CPU usage?Could it also be, that the driver causes some lags, after you copy a file (the end sound, copy is finihed, but takes more time for "final finish", than without the drivers) - I know that Vista has some problems, on some PCs with copy, and that MS has an inoficial Patch (but dosent help for my PC so far)

  • Recording with SB Audigy LS

I have an Audigy LS that works fine as far as playing audio or streaming audio over the Internet, but I can get Audacity to record either steaming audio or line-in audio.  If I set audacity to OSS: /dev/dsp, the mixer tool bar doesn't even show up.  If I set audacity to one of the ALSA settings, the mixer tool bar does show up, but it doesn't record.  Audacity will also change the playback speed on any files I am already streaming.
I don't know if this has anything to do with the problems, but I read somewhere that this soundcard does not have hardware mixing.  I also have to set IEC958 to mute in order to play audio files.
I would be willing to replace this card with either the M-Audio Revolution 5.1. or 7.1 if it would solve these problems.  M-Audio has been recommend in this forum, but no one seemed to address the recording issue.  I would be interested in any comments concerning the above problems or any experience recording with the Revolution sound cards.  I would also be interested in any differences between the two cards other than 5 channels vs. 7 channels.
      Thanks

I have a similar problem too. The problem is to do with the mic not turning on. If you press tab in alsamixer, it shows what the sound card will record and what volume settings for each input line. Yet for me, even with 100% volume on mic, i can not record because mic won't "turn on"

It's a real annoyance as this sound card worked worked really well in skype... not anymore.
I admit that I am not an audio guru which is partially due to the fact that things always worked.  The joke is that I have an old SB Live (BUDGET) on my old computer which can record streaming audio and Line-in audio.  This machine is also running Arch so its not the OS.
One of the best suggestions I've seen on this forum is to pick up an old SB on Ebay.  It totally boggles my mind that such a mundane task should be such a problem.  I may swap cards which is NOT the solution I wanted since I also use window on the old machine to run Replay Radio.
    Good Luck

  • Recording problems with Audigy

In comparison with an integrated card i had (Soundmax) and one i purchased (Sb 6) but change it because of the lack of soundfont technology, the Audigy SE records (In this case, guitars through a mic) with a better quality, but the volume of the recordings are almost like i havent record anything at all, having the "Mic boost" option selected and the volume of recording all the way up. I have to crank the amp more than i usually do when recording to be able to hear anything, but it also sounds some "ssssss" in the recording.
The recorder that came with the Audigy have an option to clean the audio from this "SSSS" but when properly cleaned it sounds very rare and unnatural, and since i use cakewalk for multitrack recording it is useless for me.

This is probably the same driver bug I have.
Windows 7 64-Bit with 8 GB of ram.
I have contacted support about it.
So far I have just recieved the typical form letters (no support at all) from them.
Turn on listening and pay with the sampling rate for a bit.
Eventually you will get it clear by switch from on rate to another.
Annoying as all get out, but that is about all you can do until there is a driver fix.

  • Lost Record Feature on Audigy

I've been doing some reel-to-reel conversions with my Audigy 2 ZS card through the Line 3 input. It's been working fine for months until I put in a new ATI Radeon 9550 video card. Now I can hear the input through Line 3, but it records silence and shows nothing on the meters. I can affect the volume with the break-out box but can't get it to show any input on the WaveStudio.
My guess is that the Radeon has changed the file associations but I can't find any specific one that has not been changed back by me to Windows Media Player. The video card replaced a previous ATI on the same AGP slot and I've not had any problems with anything else. Nothing under Device Manager shows a problem. Running the Creative diagnostics shows everything normal. Here are system specs:
    MSI Motherboard
    Intel 4.7 Processor
    GB RAM
    4 HD's totaling 500 MB
    Win XP Home
Thanks in advance for your help!
    Scott

It is the best board for Soundblaster card queries, but you have to remember this is a peer-to-peer board. It could be no one else has experienced a similar problem, or has anything to add that might help.
If you need Support from Creative directly, help is available through the Support channels (phone and e-mail).
Did you check the mixer to make sure nothing was adjusted there? Is everything still set correctly in Control Panel > Sounds & Audio Devices?

  • Recording Options with Audigy

Hello:?I have recently purchased and installed an Audigy SE card into a PC running Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit edition.
Does this card support a "What You Hear"/ "Stereo Mix" recording option?.
?I?purchased the card?as an?upgrade from my on-board sound processor, as the Vista drivers available for it'sdo not work properly. I previously used my system under Windows XP Pro to broadcast as an internet DJ and this option is necessary for me to contine. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank You.

I recently upgraded my XP system with Audigy SE to Vista and found that I could no longer record from the stereo mix. Here's what I did to fix it.
I went to Control Panel, Sounds, and under the Recording tab I right clicked and selected Show Disabled Devices. "What U Hear" showed up, but even after enabling it, it still said "Not Available". So I went to Creative and downloaded the latest software/driver pack for Vista 32-bit (dated 9 Jul 07) and installed it. After installing and rebooting, I went to Control Panel/Sounds again and tried to find "What U Hear". It was not there at all, even after telling Vista to show all disabled devices. No stereo mix, no nothing. Nice update.
So I kept the new Audigy software installed but I rolled back the driver to the original Vista driver, which was dated Feb 2007. I went back to Control Panel/Sounds and lo and behold, "What U Hear" was back. However, it was still labeled as "not available". So now I did another reboot.
I went back to Control Panel/Sounds and looked for "What U Hear", and this time it was available. So I selected it to be default and loaded up Sony SoundForge to give it a test, and it worked. I could record from the stereo mix by selecting "What U Hear" in Soundforge as my recording device.
So, in summary, the July 07 Creative update for Audigy SE in Vista 32-bit seems to be missing this key capability, for whatever reason. However, the built-in Vista driver for Audigy dated Feb 2007 does allow it. By coincidence, Creative also has a Feb 2007 driver update listed in their downloads -- is this the same driver supplied by Vista? I don't know. Maybe it is, but now that I have things working, I'm not going to mess with it to try and find out.
So my advice -- get the latest software pack from Creative but use the February 2007 Vista driver, or try the Creative February driver.

  • Recording Music With Audigy Platinu

I record music with my Audigy and I am trying to get it so I can record my guitar with effects. I can turn the effects on, but it turns it on for everything and when I record, no effects are applied.
I tried messing with the "source" for the effect with no success. I also tried switching my windows sound settings for record and playback...
    Help me

    Voormis,
I think a EMU recording card is in your future. The entry level EMU card is the 0404 and can do exactly what you are looking to do. The higher end cards offer more inputs and better grade converters. Basically if you are looking for something for multitrack recording with effects processing, you should check these cards out.
Right now EMU is selling Factory Re-Certified B-Stock cards at good discounts. You can also check for the cards through many music retailers. Here is the emu website:

  • Recording with SB Audigy 2

I am trying to record multiple tracks, but keep each track seperate and then mix them. I have no problem recording a single track. When I record the second track, I have the first track mixing and recording into the second track. I need to hear the first track as I record the second but I do not want the second track to contain the audio from the first. Is this possible and if so what do I need to do?
    thanks in advance,

  • "Line In" Recording Source for Audigy 2 ZS Platinum

I've been trying to connect my technics turntables through a pioneer mixer to the external hub. I connected it to the "Line In" port as described in the help menu. However, when I select "Show Recording status" in mediasource player it doesn't give me the "Line In" option in the reording source pull down menu. I'm tearing my hair out!
    Any ideas?
    Thanks so much

    Hi Kees,
Thanks for replying. I'll try using Wavestudio instead and see where I get.
I've tried to change my settings to record from "Line In" in the Surround Mixer but I am not given the option. I've checked the boards on here and cannot find anyone else who has had the same problem.
The problem seems to be that "Line In" is not an option.
Your, and anyone elses, help would be appreciated so much.

  • SB Audigy- Recording from Digital Piano or Phonogr

Have an electric piano with RCA (L/R) Output. Tried recording with the Audigy Card Front Aux 2 RCA Inputs. I have recording device set to Aux 2. Also tried What You Hear and every other selection available.
Does the recording source have to be "amplified" to record using the front RCA's. I have to turn playback volume way up to hear anything. Very high hiss noise at this level.
The Audigy records an electric guitar (through the lin 2 jack) very well and it is not amplified. ( ALL Input devices in the mixer are at full volume (not muted)
    Any suggestions please

    KokChoy-CL,
Maybe you could also help with this (please):? the Mic input doesn't work on a new SB Audigy SE. I've been reading a lot of posts regarding this problem, but no solutions anywhere.
The Audigy SE uses a "FlexJack" for:? Line In/Mic In/Digital I/O (DIGITAL_IO); all via the same?blue jack. I haven't tried Line In or Digital I/O, but the Mic input is not working.
I know the?Mic is good (the?Mic?works with both onboard audio?and?a SoundBlaster Li've! card on the same machine).
I read elsewhere (for the X-Fi card) that there is a setting for controlling which input?to use on the FlexJack--this setting is nowhere to be found in the Audigy software.

  • Audigy 2 NX recording sample rate question

Hi, I have two questions about the sample rate used when recording in the Audigy 2 NX -
When recording an analog signal (Line In), is the actual?sampling rate at which the analog signal is being sampled different from the requested sample rate ? For example, when recording at XX Khz, does the actual sampling of the analog signal really?happen at XX Khz or does it get sampled at a different fixed rate(48khz?) and then gets re-sampled to XX Khz ?
When recording a digital signal (spdif in), if the recording sampling rate specified is the same as the sampling rate of the input signal then does the card record this digital input signal in a bit-perfect fashion ? For example, if the digital input signal is 6bit and 44.Khz, and the recording is also being done at 6bit and 44.Khz then does the card actually record the signal at exactly that rate without modifying the data in any way ? or does it record it at a different rate and then re-sample internally to arri've at the requested recording rate ?
Now I know this card works a little different in terms of re-sampling when the 'Digital Input only' checkbox is checked. So I am looking for the answers to these questions keeping in my mind this option as well.
    Thanks!

    thanks for your replies.
    katman,
I checked that thread. Although I wonder if the same thing applies to recording at rates higher than 48khz as well ?as I am more interested in finding out if when recording 96khz does the signal really get sampled at true 96khz or something else ? But, Upsampling a recording (not playback)?to a higher frequency doesn't make sense?because you can't create what you lost by recording at a?lower sampling rate. A test for checking this would be to try and record a signal that has frequency content well above 24khz but less than 48khz. If that content gets captured that means it is indeed recording at 96khz, if it gets lost then its recording at 48khz.
    flipflop,
I have opened up the soundcard and messed around with a lot. Here's a list of the chips alongwith their descriptions based on whatever I could find?about them -
    Sigmatel STAC9460S - Codec
JRC 4556A - Headphone output opamp
ST MC33078 - Line level output/input dual opamp. (Total 4).
Philips UDA334 - Low Power DAC
Philips ISP58BD - USB device controller
    Creative CA086 - DSP
    Cirrus Logic EP7309 - High-Performance, Low-Power System-on-Chip Enhanced Digital Audio Interface
    ST M29W400BB - 4Mbit Flash Memory
    ST LD33 - 3.3v regulator (?)
    ST LD8 - .8v regulator (?)
Although the datasheet of the codec suggests that it supports all sampling rates, I'd have to dig deeper to really find out if it is handicapped to only one standard rate for recording - http://www.alsa-project.org/~james/d...tac9460-ds.pdf

  • Recording digital audio from satellite recei

I'm considering the purchase of an Audigy 2 NX. I've found several postings on recording digitally, but I'm still not sure if satellite audio can be recorded. By connecting the optical audio toslink from my satellite receiver to the Audigy 2 NX, can the music stream be digitally captured via the USB connection to the computer without undergoing a conversion to analog? Does the Dish Network (or DirecTV) signal include copy protection bits that prevent this type of recording? Are there any other known issues? Thanks.

I record to a Audigy Platinum ZS through my satellite reciever (DTV-Hughes receiver)and have had no problems with DRM or encrypted bits. I do however have an annoying background hum present. I'm using RCA to a 3.5mm connector to the line-in port with a cable length of about 25'(?)but other than that, usually record at 48khz, 6bit with nice results (Nero Wave Edit)

  • Which source input for record

    Hi all,
I have learned to record using my Audigy 2 ZS card. I use the record option in the Creative player.
My only question is that when I am recording audio from my VHS tape deck. The manual says to connect the audio output cables of my source to the "line input" of my Sound card. It then says to select the "line input" option from the record source menu. There is no line input option in the "record source" menu. If I choose another source input such as, "wave" input or "what u hear" input, both will apparently will record the same.
Should I be using one of these inputs instead of the other for a better quality recording?
    ......or does ot not matter?
    Thanks,

In the mixer, just be sure to turn off (mute) all the sources you aren't using. Also, I recommend closing any other programs while you're recording. And if you have any noise or artifacts in your recordings, you might try the clean-up options in the EAX console. But they'll alter the recording of course, so if you don't need them, I'd say don't use them. Other than that, looks like you're good to go.

    Thanks Bob,
I played around with it and now see what you are saying. My goal is to archi've some well recorded concert audio from a VHS source. I purchased a very high end specialty cable that is unidirectional going in the direction of the male RCA jacks to the /8 stereo mini jack to my sound card. For this particular Analog audio source I have found that choosing "line in" and a recording level of 37% gives the best recording results. I also am selecting 96k sampling and a 24 bit depth.
Other than the settings I have chosen above. Are there any other settings I need to know about as it pertains to the recording aspect, that will allow me to obtain the best possible conversion of this analog audio source to digital?
